My son has been training here for six months. Professor Bill and his wife Allie along with all of his instructors are very kind, respectful people. They are interested in helping the parent develop their child in more than the art of Jiu Jitsu. They value respect, honoring others, being kind, working hard to achieve goals, all while sweating it out on the mats and having fun! On more than one occasion I have seen Professor Bill take kids aside, encourage them, and talk to their parents to help them with issues at school or at home. These people aren’t in this sport for enrollments, they are in it to help others. I am so thankful that my son has found a place where he can learn the art of Jiu Jitsu in a safe non-overbearing place. On a side note, these kids can really defend themselves! I have seen a kid flip another that is twice his size because he has committed to training here and learned proper technique. It is amazing the self-confidence each child steps into as they continue. I have been training for just over a month at Professor Bills academy. Holy cow, joining this gym was the best decision I have made in a long time! Professor Bill and all of his instructors are amazingly cool people. The quality of the instruction is very high, which also leads to a crop of well trained and knowledgeable students. This place truly is a Jiu Jitsu family, and Professor Bill is a man that takes his teaching seriously, he has his heart invested in all his students. If you are interested in finding a means of exercise that is more than grinding at the gym, or if you are like I was and already interested but having dubious thoughts about joining a gym, the least you could do for yourself is contact Professor and set up an intro class. This Brazilian Jui Jitsu academy is everything you could possibly want and more. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, Professional Bill can provide the type of training that will benefit your life regardless of what your goals are. There is very much a family atmosphere and everyone is extremely welcoming and helpful. Professor Bill’s accomplishments may speak for themselves but beyond his BJJ skills, he is a great leader and very positive person. I’ve taken other martial arts for 12 years and knew from day 1 that this place was legit. The instruction and attention to detail that is provided in your training is second to none. A bit rough on your body at times, but I expected as much and attempt as best I can to work on strength and endurance outside of class which I can tell helps. I love this studio.Full disclosure: I am an absolute beginner to BJJ, so can't compare to other studios.What I do know is that the Professor has built an amazing community, with a group of people who travel from all over to participate. Professor Bill is an excellent teacher, and has a solid group of teachers / senior students who patiently work with the beginning students. Her first trial class, the instructors and owner worked one on one with my daughter to evaluate her and her personality. I have been to 7 classes so far and there is one thing that stands out above everything...support. When we spar/roll every training partner I have worked with has been awesome. They give me the opportunity to practice new moves I have just learned, answer my questions, and give me confidence. At the same time they give me a bit more than I can handle to keep me humble. Professor Bill is an amazing instructor. What I love about his approach is he focuses in on repeating the fundamentals. While we still learn awesome techniques, he devotes time in class to small movements that when committed to repetition will help make all the other moves easier to implement. I see his advanced class and I aspire to be a part of it. They are very good at what they do and encourage me to get better each and every class. Professor Bill leads a great BJJ school. I had the opportunity to train there when I came to Jacksonville to wait out Hurricane Florence. I went to the school for a Thursday and Friday class, attending with my Judo and BJJ teachers. We came from Myrtle Beach BJJ and Judo. Professor Bill made us feel welcome and right at home as did his students. He offers the total package and my experience was exactly what I expected from a native born and trained Brazilian BJJ player. And he does it in a school facility that is really clean and well lit with equipment that is in excellent condition.Thursday night Professor Bill led a well organised class and allowed us to roll with all of his students. Friday was open mat. On both nights they showed me they know how to work and demonstrated strong traditional BJJ. I really appreciated the opportunity to interact with all of them. There is a strong thread of respect in Professor Bill’s school at all levels. I would definitely go back and train at Professor Bill’s school and would recommend Professor Bill to anyone who wants to learn BJJ. My 9-year-old daughter has been training at this dojo for a year and half, and what a difference that makes! She's not only grown physically stronger and much better at jiu jitsu, but she's gained so much confidence, determination, and respect for the art. My shy little girl has come out of her shell! Professor Bill is top notch. He is patient with the kids and makes sure to not only teach them techniques, but discipline and life principles to be practiced outside the dojo. He's even taking time to teach them words in Portuguese. :) You can tell he is very passionate to bring up the next generation of jiu jitsu fighters. We are VERY happy we found this place.
