So I meet Zadren @ the Woodlawn Sunday Dinner...supper sweet guy and he explained the flavors perfectly. This is my first time at Big Spoon, and I will definitely be coming back! We got the Black Forest ice cream in a vanilla cone & Cookies N Cream in a  chocolate waffle cone. My husband and I frequent the Homewood location on date nights. Not only are we continually blown away with amazing, rich flavors and smooth, creamy texture, but the service is always phenomenal. I've been here a few times and coming to Big Spoon Creamery is ALWAYS a treat! Depending on when you visit, the line could be out the door or there could be no line , no waiting . On my last visit there was no line, no waiting so it was a breeze!  The moment I saw the advertisement for the Black Forest brownie ice cream- I immediately drooled and could NOT wait to try it! For the most part I was pleased with my scoop of Black Forest brownie but unfortunately, there was only one piece of brownie in my scoop . I have to agree with the other reviewers that pointed out the ingredient ratios being slightly off; otherwise , the ice cream was well crafted as well as delicious! Big Spoon is by far the best ice cream in Birmingham! They always have a unique mix of flavors that changes seasonal, and it's all homemade! One of my favorites is cinnamon toast crunch! Wow!  Ordered several items and put them in an insulated bag to take home for myself and brother.   He loved his and wants it again ASAP.  I think if we lived together he would have bugged me to go back that night.   My banana split wasn't a run of the mill sundae.   The fruit was Brulé with brown sugar and a torch.  The toppings were top notch even though candy nuts were an extra cost.  It was delicious.  The staff were extremely nice and patient with people like me with many questions and taste spoon requests.  The facilities are well stocked, clean and welcoming.   Outstanding business that I'm happy to see thriving. Oh my! If you haven't tried this place you should. I'm much more a fan of savory items and truly have no taste for ice cream. That is until my daughters introduced me to this place. Oh. My. Lord. This place is DANGEROUS. The ice cream is amazing, and I can't brag enough on their house made waffle cones! What a fun place! They had so many different unique flavors. I got to sample a few and decided on the Sangria sorbet (like a raspberry grape flavor? ) and cookies and cream (classic). It was delicious and unlike other sorbets I'd had before. Line was quick. A little pricey but I'll pay it because you can tell it's made in house with fresh ingredients. Beautiful interior and nice clean bathroom. I especially loved the shady patio seating- there's also games outside for children like mini golf and corn hole! One of my favorite ice cream places in Bham. If you're in the Avondale area then this place is the place to finish off your meal/date. I love gelato, but I usually hate ice cream​, which tends to be a bunch of sugar​ embedded in a blend of quickly melting ice and artificial​ flavor​s. I happened to enjoy​ some good icecream here and there in the States, still, never good enough​ to get it twice in the same year! When my wife proposed to try BigSpoon, I had the usual expectation of having​ to throw​ away the last half of the cone.Well, was I wrong!I have no idea how they manage to make a product so0oo far way in quality respect the competition and still keep it to the good price the offer. But, their icecream is just delicious!- Not too sugary; although, they could cut down 30% and still be great, if not greater.- Great consistency​; it doesn't​melt​t too fast, which is a sign of quality - gelato does not melt as fast as icrecream, indeed).- Delicious​ seasonal flavors​; right now they have ​a goat milk and blueberry​​ that is fantastic.- The cone is homemade​ and it​  is worth itself​ a visit to the shop!​- The place is very clean and pleasant​.- The staff is very kind and patient; I have seen customers that​ would just​ hang there minutes tasting and choosing their picks. The cutest ice cream place in Alabama! They make all their ice cream and it is so fresh and not overly sweet. I love that they are constantly trying new flavors and changing them. Big Spoon was a nice secluded creamery with a variety of unique ice cream flavors. They had options like goat cheese blueberry pie that I saw a lot of people eating and loving. I decided to go a little more simpler and get a vanilla bean scoop with their homemade waffle cones. The cone was actually my favorite, it was sweet with a perfect crunch. My son and I are a traveling ice cream duo. We tour VA looking for and tasting their yummy ice cream/custard. This is the first time we have been out of the state. We rate each ice cream establishment based on flavor and presentation, melting point of the cone, customer service, cleanliness, environment, and experience. We rate you a 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The environment and experience was great. The ice creamist were amazing and fun to talk to. It’s a clean establishment inside and out which is a huge hit for me. Everyone was having a great time and it was not too cold to stay. Melting point was my favorite for I got up and moved around a lot and the leftover at the bottom of my cup was bare minimum. The presentation of the scoop was great and dense which helps prolong melting. My son LOVED and I mean LOVED your ice cream. He is not an ice cream eater and out of the many places we have tried you are the second place he has loved next to Moo thro. The reason I gave it a 4/5 is my friend told me you typically have different flavor cones to add to your ice cream. I loved the goat cheese blueberry pie. The buckwheat crust did not have a flavor to accentuate the amazing ice cream. I understand why it was used to not take flavor away from the ice cream and not to overpower it. It just needed a tad flavor to bring add the finishing touch to the blueberry pie ice cream. You have flavors that are vegan which is new for me AND you have unique flavors that even a chef would love. Basil ice cream and Lemonade Thyme sorbet is next. Otherwise, 4/5 in my book More...
