Big Apple Bagels (El Dorado Hills, CA)

This place is my favorite since moving up from the Bay Area two years ago.  My only two "complaints" - I wish they were closer to my house, which I guess maybe I should just consider moving again. And 2 - I wish they had a more junk goody type breakfast sandwich.  Although, I'm not sure why I need a breakfast sandwich, I'm too busy eating their delicious muffins anyways.  The staff is always super friendly and happy to make recommendations when asked.  There is always a wide variety of tasty treats to choose.  It's clean, and well spaced out for COVID, and all employees are wearing masks and gloves. We love the bagels and the Egg/Sasuage combo as well as the LOX with everything on it.  We make a point to stop by monthly or better for a great bagel at a family owned local business.  Shame that people will try to hurt them over a business WISELY choosing not to engage with  patrons who are choosing not to wear mask.  Customers can call in orders and never leave their car if they need that service. Whenever I have to run an errand near this shopping center I always grab a bagel here. The last time we went for sandwiches I asked for a recommendation. They recommended the melted Swiss. It was perfect! A light crispy burnt cheese flavor made a great contrast to the soft yet chewy bagel. Today when we ran in they were minutes from closing, but they graciously made all of our requested sandwiches while they were packing up. They have great looking baked goods too so I picked up a cherry cheesecake muffin for tomorrow morning. More...

YUM YUM YUM! This will be our go-to bagel spot from now on!  We came in within 30 minutes of closing and they were so gracious and friendly.  We had the club sandwich on a cheddar bagel and I really don't think I ever want one on regular old bread ever again.  Bonus, they have clear mask signage (which is very important to us), and when we walked in their masks were already on. It wasn't like a lot of places where you can tell they just put them on when someone walks in. Just stopped in with the wife for a late light lunch. Decided to split a bagel sandwich - Scott was more than helpful on suggestions, offering to make a half-half sandwich. We decided on the Club on a cheddar bagel: FANTASTIC. In hindsight, should have got one each - this was the best bagel sandwich I've had in recent memory. Fresh bagel, excellent tasting turkey and bacon. All around fantastic! In this pandemic time, they've got clear signage on the entrance door telling customers to wear masks. When we walked in, both employees had properly worn masks. Yeah, it's hot this time of year, but I appreciate being able to enjoy a freshly made meal under an umbrella. I almost forgot to mention that we picked up a handful of their specialty muffins, and I'm looking forward to the sinful cherry cheesecake muffin. Well done, folks! Super bummed with my order today  we LOVE Big Apple Bagels and have never had a problem with them before! We usually order from DoorDash but will occasionally wander in and the staff is always amazing! I'm sure this time was just a mistake but my daughter's breakfast sandwich arrived perfect (Southern Tradition with bacon and a cheddar bagel) and mine, the same thing with a jalapeño bagel, arrived slightly burned on the outside and gummy and undercooked on the inside. Will always be back but now I'm still hungry and will have to resort to cereal! Lol thanks anyway guys! More...

I can't believe how I was treated today not only by a local establishment but also Safeway employees! I had ordered three bagels. I waited in my car for the order to be completed.I saw the people in please approach the truck parked next to me and said oh I'm sorry we gave you the wrong food that's not order... Do you have a customer had already taken a bite out of one of the bagels wrapped it back up put it back in the bag and handed it back to the employee.I walk in less than 30 seconds later and save them for you take that same bag and says 'here is your order'I said isn't that the same bag you just took back from the other customer because she gave my food to them by mistake and he said oh yeah and I said well you need to make me new food and then the manager came out and basically kicked me out of the store because I demanded that he make my food with clean gloves and said that he was in El Dorado County and there's nothing mandating him to do anything I.e wear gloves while making food and that I needed to leave his establishment, More...

The food here is awesome and they have amazing customer service. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I highly recommend trying the bagels and muffins! The bagels here are so fresh and delicious. I love the sourdough jalapeño cheese and the sun dried tomato bagels especially. The flavored cream cheeses are so good. Ohhhhh, and the muffins. I love the Boston Cream Pie and the crumbly cinnamon one. My daughter especially loves the one with the sprinkles and the blueberry. I drive from Folsom just to come get these bagels and muffins. I tried this place since Posh Bagel was closed due to the coronavirus and thought that the space was warm and inviting along with great customer service. I ordered the lox bagel off of their menu and they put lettuce in my bagel instead of onion, and there wasn't a lot of lox for what you pay. There was one slice of tomato, and barely any capers. My manager ordered from this place today for a coworkers birthday.  The bagels looked so good and I had a blueberry one.  It had hardly any taste.  I couldn't tell it was blueberry and there was a lot of like yeast or something on the bottom and that was all I could taste.  I tried a muffin too and a few of my coworkers did as well and they weren't all the way cooked.  They were super doughy and I ended up throwing mine away. I reallllly like bagels, New York style bagels to be specific. There is nothing like a freshly made bagel, fluffy dough on the inside and crispy on the outside. Big Apple bagels wins the prize for best New York style bagel on this side of town. I still love Posh but I have to say Big Apple makes a better quality bagel. I've tried them twice now. Again I find myself giving this place 5 stars, and I'd give them more if it was an option! The customer service is awesome and the food is amazing! Went to order a chocolate chip bagel and was told that they no longer offer them (no problem at all!) so I selected a cinnamon bagle (yum!) and the gentleman making the food, who I am assuming is the owner, explained to me why they didn't have the chocolate anymore but offered to throw some chocolate chips in the cream cheese for me!
