Q&As

Beyond the Books provides anywhere from the absolute basics (bookkeeping with minimal reporting) to full monthly analytical processes and everything in between. While we do offer one-off services, the best way to get and stay on top of your accounting is to engage in a monthly accounting package. We do not provide tax services; however, we are very happy to work hand in hand with your tax professional to get them the information they need.

Accounting can be confusing and cumbersome, not to mention completely time consuming. It is often put on the back burner with receipts shoved in a shoebox only to come out at tax time. This doesn't help the owners at all. They have no idea how profitable (or not) they actually are until it is sometimes too late. A bookkeeper will be able to organize expenses and revenues, but a good accountant will be able to report on those numbers, analyze the data, and explain what the entire picture means. "Doing" is half of the battle, but really "knowing" is what helps a business become successful and make sound financial decisions. A good accountant can be compared to a good doctor or a lawyer, sometimes it is best to not DIY to get the best results.

As cliche as it may be, I love helping my clients succeed in their business. With the pandemic, I worked diligently with my clients to help them succeed in even the most trying of times. We worked together to get contingency plans in place, I helped them apply for payroll protection loans, and thankfully, every one of them has been able to not only survive, but thrive in the conditions.

After working in corporate for the majority of my career, I was faced with the opportunity to work with a small accounting firm focusing on small business clients. I realized quickly what my work life was missing - actually making a difference in someone's business. Almost immediately, I was able to see the impact and enjoyed getting to know my clients and learning what they needed from me to be successful. When the accounting firm and I parted ways (the owner wanted to go in a different direction), he was gracious enough to help me get started and point me in the right path - I am forever grateful for his push to get me started.

Beyond the Books is more about partnering with clients and not simply completing monthly financial reporting. I have found that teaching clients what their financials are telling them gives them confidence to make better financial decisions.

Yes - I prefer to complete all business remotely. With technology like email, Zoom conferencing, and Google Suite, I find business can be completed safely and effectively.

I take meetings via Zoom to keep my clients and their employees safe!

A one-time service to review current financial books evaluating the content and accuracy, a documented plan for the next steps, and a listing/outline of recommendations for new processes and procedures.

Just as the name suggests, this service is provided to clients who are behind on their bookkeeping. This can be accompanied with one of the monthly accounting plans (Essential, Premium, or Pro) or can simply be a one-off project.
