Few may remember the Israeli themed Bagel Bite in Delaware Ave. At one point, it was perhaps the only place to get fresh bagels, hummus, and falafel in the Capital Region. It's closure was a loss. Â Although more Mediterranean restaurants have come, a good bagel with fresh lox, and authentic falafel and Israeli salad is still hard to find.Fortunately, the owners of Bagel Bite opened up shop in downtown Albany, renaming it Better Bite, and offering a bigger menu, space, and business potential. Â Now more of a cafe/diner/NYC deli, at first glance, Better Bite is indeed more generic then its former business, but a deep dive into the menu reveals its roots.In particular, a standout item is the spicy shakshuka. Shakshuka is a must get Israeli/Middle Eastern breakfast of poached eggs served in a tomato, onion, and harissa sauce making a deliciously dIvine dish.I would also not pass on the hummus wraps, triple decker grilled sandwiches, Mediterranean omelettes, or any of the inventive 100% albacore tuna melts.Thus, during the week in downtown Albany, you probably won't be able to find a "better bite" than Better Bite. We stopped in this past weekend during some city wandering - mostly to warm up. Service was exceptional, so friendly and prompt, with regular check-ins throughout our visit. I opted for a mocha latte and it was perfect. The food on the other hand was not so great. I went for a so cal egg sandwich on a bagel - they were out of anything other than sesame and wheat, so I went with the wheat. Imagine my surprise when it came out on an english muffin instead. I honestly didn't care enough to question it, but it just wasn't very good. The guac was solidly bad and did not taste fresh, though the rest of it was fine. The service alone (though the great mocha also helped) deserves a 4-star review, though the food left a lot to be desired. Would give another shot! I had the most delicious caramel latte here. So worthy that I had to look up Better Bite and review. Something so simple, but it seriously made my day :)The staff was also so friendly even when it was the morning rush and very busy!

I arrived here for a late lunch and was bummed the menu I was looking at was outdated since it’s in the process of being updated. I ordered the garden veggie burger with sweet potato fries. They no longer sell the veggie burger and by 3 the grill is turned off so I was out of luck on what I wanted. I ordered the beyond burger and my friend ate the macaroni salad. While I would’ve given this establishment a poor review Mariah at the register was really sweet and tried to help by offering other choices. The food was absolutely delish and I would come here again - late and all. Mariah had great customer service and professionalism and the food was delicious so I’m giving them 5 stars. More...

Quick service and delicious breakfast sandwich, Downtown Campus on an everything bagel. Also got talking to one of the ladies there and asked her if anyone had pointed out that the NYC skyline picture showed the twin towers being built in the distance. Didn't seem like anyone had mentioned that but on the way out I forgot my cappaccino and she was quick to catch me before I got out the door. My husband took me to Better Bite this past week. He goes there with coworkers and always loves it. The place is way bigger inside than I imagined! And the outdoor covered patio is very nice.I ordered the Englishman which is the first "specialty sandwich" on the menu. It was huge! And each sandwich comes wth a choice of homemade coleslaw, macaroni salad, or potato salad. I chose coleslaw and it did not disappoint. Solid lunch. Fresh ingredients, fair prices, and excellent deli meats. I am not a huge fan of potato salad but their has just the perfect blend of spices and dressing. A great choice in downtown Albany.

I was at a conference nearby for 2 days and loved the food and friendly staff so much here that I decided to order breakfast and lunch here on both days. Very cute place, lots of different food options (including healthy juices and premium coffee beverages). The food is fresh... the menu is pretty extensive. They had salads, wraps, yummy sandwiches (breakfast and lunch), and various Mediterranean options on the menu. For coffee breaks, their coffee/ lattes were excellent. There is a seating area where you can have your meal. The establishment does get very busy between 12:30 and 1:00pm, but the staff was impressively able to handle the large volume. Wonderful homemade food. Can't go wrong with a thing on the menu. Great Mediterranean based food. There's fresh healthy juices to cleanse you after challah French toast or unique homeade corned beef hash (even if you're not a fan, chances are this nothinf like what you're used to). Formerly Bagel Bite, family owned restaurant on Delaware, the change in location and updated atmosphere has not changed a thing with regards to providing good eats. Service is mostly great.
