Beautiful selection of mid-to-high end lighting, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Good LED options too. They have a nice mix of floor, wall, ceiling, decorative, and outdoor lighting. I got a pendant at BLC some years ago. It was a bit pricey but I was super happy with its unique design. After the bulb went, I picked up a new one at a hardware store. It seemed to work... until it didn't. Because it had worked, it didn't occur to me they'd sold me the wrong type of bulb. Enter Dan at BLC. He ran some tests and sent me home with one of their bulbs, and problem solved! Can I give them 6 stars?  They worked with us on a complicated order for several fixtures with care, grace and understanding, went out of their way to make us happy and yes, they were as good or better then internet pricing.  And if you want to buy lighting, hey, its important to see the fixture if possible or at least speak with people who know what they are doing before you incur that restocking charge. Excellent customer service! I went there to buy some recessed cans today and didn't realize there was a parking lot on the side of the buiding that I could use. My order came in a big box and though I could probably carry it since it wasn't super heavy, a staff member that was helping me (I believe his name is Andrei) offered to help me carry it to my car without me even asking. Not sure if he noticed my pregnant belly or that is just how nice all the staff here are... Either way, I was very happy he offered! He helped me carry the box to my car which was parked around the corner and across the street! Sooo nice!!! Definitely coming back here for my lighting needs!!! More...

It was a little daunting to figure out a light fixture for our new kitchen.  Dan at Berkeley Lighting was so helpful!  He helped us narrow down our search and then we got to borrow a few different types of lights to try out.  We finally found the one we liked but the metal work was the wrong color for our kitchen.  Dan managed to find someone to create a new brushed nickel bracket (not sure what it's called) that worked out perfectly and looked wonderful!  We felt like Berkeley Lighting did a great job helping us to find the perfect light! Great service and selection.  As you can tell from the photos, this store has a bajillion lamps to look at in person.  But they also have demos set up for other options, namely LED strip lights, which is what I came in to check out.  It turns out there are a huge number of choices for such lights - various color temperatures, CRI, lumens and so on - and to help me choose, Sean rigged up some short test strips (including transformers!) for me to take home and try in the room.  Good luck getting that kind of service online.For anyone interested, the conclusion of my test was that high CRI and more lumens are both totally worth it.  But ultimately, I wound up going with another lighting solution namely making my own antique lamps by hand, custom fit for the space.  Nonetheless, I would come here again in heartbeat for my future lighting needs. Berkeley Lighting combines the best by having expert lighting specialists on their staff and a showroom to see all manner of fixtures.  I needed 14 LED fixtures  for a remodel of 3 rooms (kitchen, bath, and bedroom) and exterior lighting.  I also needed Title 24 compliant lighting systems.  Sherry and Veronica provided superior technical support, knowledge of the many product options, and great service.  Sherry in particular helped me as I struggled with finding that one last fixture! Absolutely amazing customer service.   We had a light fixture which needed repair.  The fixture was purchased more than seven years ago from Hubbardton Ford.  We contacted Hubbardton who immediately sent us the replacement part free of charge.   We then contacted Berkeley Lighting to see if they could install the replacement part.  They did so, also without any charge, within an hour.  Simply as good as it gets.  I cannot imagine partronizing any other lighting store in the East Bay other than Berkeley Lighting (and a very special thanks to Chiem at Berkeley Lighting for his splendid repair work). Needed a light for the bathroom vanity. Found a huge selection of beautiful styles to choose from. The staff was very helpful and explained the pros and cons of all the different varieties. The store was almost closing, but they did not pressure me to make a decision. Instead, they showed me magazines with even more choices. Later I called in my order, and they sent me a receipt in the mail.Three weeks later, I thought I did not receive the light yet. So I called them and they told me it was shipped and delivered and must have been stolen. They said they would file a claim and have a new one shipped immediately. BLC was the first time I had ever been into a professional lighting showroom. I had a fun time walking around and perusing the different light fixtures. They've got a beautiful assortment of Tiffany-style stained glass lamps right by the entrance that caught my eye. The staff are all super knowledgeable and very friendly. The service rep to customer ratio is high and I didn't notice anyone having to wait for assistance. I was there right when they opened and there was a small crowd waiting to get in. It's clearly a neighborhood fixture and people travel from all over the Bay Area to come get advice and pick up their lights. They have all sorts of lights fromstanding lamps, desk lamps and sconces to chandeliers and garden pathway lighting. If you name it, they've probably got it. BLC basically carries any lighting source that's not the sun or an open flame candle.I walked away with an orange table lamp for my bedroom. I went in today with a light fixture from my ceiling. One of the bulbs blew and I was worried about the wiring. A man who works there named Chim helped me right away. I was just at Berkeley Lighting Co. for the first time. I have been up and down both sides of the bay trying to find someone who didn't just want to sell me something. I moved from Menlo Park, and have been trying to find fans and lights for a loft in Fruitvale, and had a good idea of what I was after. Today, i went into Berkeley Lighting and spoke with Dan. I finally met someone who said, "Not a good idea. Here's why,..." made suggestions, dug out a ton of books, and installation photos, and I left with a much better understanding of my next steps - without buying the fans. I have more measuring to do, and need an electrician (he referred me to one for a quote), but he saw where I was trying to go, and is helping me get there. I'm am thrilled with the service from Berkeley Lighting.  We purchased a custom floor lamp and subsequently broke the glass shade. The entire staff was so helpful with ordering a replacement shade and following through with tracking the order.Installing the shade was tricky and I was intimidated. We were looking for lighting for our bathroom and we've been everywhere and we've had no luck finding the perfect one. We decided to try Berkeley lighting even though they are farther away from us and as soon as we walk in we saw what we wanted and just fell in love with it. They didn't have it in stock but they can order it for you. We love it so much that we end up buying the display. Saturday. Noon. Our housewarming party is in several short hours, and our living room is lit solely by two small desk lamps that, in the evening, cast long shadows and hazing light that make everyone look like they are starring in Tod Browning's 1931 cinematic masterpiece, Dracula. We desperately need a standing lamp. The fate of our party depends on it. Cut to Berkeley Lighting Company, shockingly popular at this time, and it has LOTS of standing lamps. My boyfriend and I meandered through $1k+ atrocities, $700 swanky LEDs, classic-looking $400-500 pieces, and finally landed on... the perfect standing lamp. Black with a stylish inverted "shade" that looked like frosted glass, but on closer inspection was plastic. It was simple and sleek. The best part? It was $91--hundreds of dollars less than significantly uglier alien-tech-esque options. (To put it more diplomatically, there were options available for all kinds of tastes, style preferences, and budgets.) While deliberating on how we were going to bring our new lamp home (we'd arrived in my boyfriend's smaller car, and this impulse stop meant that there were already two enormous helium balloons in the backseat from the party store next door), one of the women helping us asked where we lived. Okay, south Berkeley--well, where in South Berkeley? Turns out, one of her coworkers lived fairly close and was happy to drop off the lamp after he got off work around 6pm. No delivery fee, just out of kindness. (An additional kindness: he recognized that we live near a burger joint, and he recommended a different, better place to try!)He called around 6:10 to let us know he'd just gotten off work and gave us an ETA. When he arrived, he wasn't sure if we'd picked up the light bulbs we'd bought, so he brought extras for us, just in case. Talk about going above and beyond for your customers! I talked up BLC several times during the party--which was very successful, in part due to warm lighting that prevented anyone from looking like a washed out ghoul. The best. They have many many lamps of al shapes and designs. Artistic to more modern or that rare more classy lamp. The presentation of all the lamp are laid out very well in the store. You are greeted by some of the kindest people. I came with special needs  and was helped out with such grace and patience. I highly recommend this shop for lighting needs. I am renovating my house and needed some bathroom lights. Berkeley Lighting has a large selection of beautiful lights, many that's not seen anywhere else. I did find a sconce that I've seen at an another lighting store for less price. I was so happy that I purchased it plus two others. All the people working there are very nice and are customer service oriented. I was promptly notified when the lights came in. Kitchen light fixture didn't work.  Replaced the bulb.  Still didn't work.  Spent literally two days calling 9 different electricians/companies to come out.  Dismissive, unresponsive, one said he'd come, didn't show, didn't call.  Meanwhile, I break the bulb cover, now need a replacement.  I email pictures of what I need to Berkeley Lighting, then go down there.  They're busy, I'm exasperated from obnoxious, unprofessional electricians I can't get a hold of, and Sean basically tells me they can't help me either, part is weird, he's never seen one, etc.  So I leave, pretty unhappy all around.  At which point later, I receive an email from Sean, apologizing for being unable to help me, explaining the issue with the part, but then offering to come over my house and look at the fixture.  I can't get an electrician to show up for pay but Berkeley Lighting is willing to make housecalls to help out a single widower with his kitchen fixture so I don't have to sit in the dark.  You can't get a doctor to make a housecall!  If you don't get your own ass to the hospital, they let you die, but Berkeley Lighting's Sean comes over, in five minutes, he figures out the issue (an internal connection with the bulb), it's fixed, he spends fifteen minutes with me adjusting the fixture so it's not crooked--something you need to know how to do and two pairs of hands to do it with--and that's that.  I've been using Berkeley Lighting for 30 years for all kinds of lighting equipment, indoor and outdoor, but in this instance they went above and beyond for a customer who was, I admit, really not very warm and fuzzy in the moment.  Now THAT's service.  Thank you, Sean!  I'm never going anywhere else.  Please, give them all your business. Really interesting stuff and a staff that knows about stuff that's not on the walls.Dan helped me get a new, more appropriate for my house, porch light.  I wanted something striking but with simple, masculine elegance.  He helped me find the perfect fixture.Special orders take a while so if you don't see what you like in the store, expect a bit of a wait.  I think that this is really typical for lighting outlets.Prices are what you'd expect for a higher-end lighting store.  Watch for sales and ask the staff if there are alternatives if you need something cheaper.  It's easy to get spendy on lighting - sometimes that's appropriate and other times you just need something that works.  The folks at this store get that difference.Follow up is excellent with calls to let me know what was happening with my shipment.  Love that. Such fantastic customer service! They patiently walked us through our light selection and truly cared about how our lights would look. We never felt rushed, even when they were busy because they are well-staffed with lots of friendly and helpful employees.
