This place has sole! The sole with the pecan crust was amazing. The disappointment was that although it was early in the evening they had already run out of the puff pastry for oysters and just gave it to us in a dish. We send it back. Maybe the oysters were bad! But we will go back. More...

For the past 2 years my husband and I have been coming here for my birthday. I always have enjoyed the food and the ambiance. I have always been able to hear my husband talk and the service has always been outstanding. We have always been treated like a regular customer. It had been a very long since we had been to Bentley's, and that time was not a memorable experience. This time, however, was entirely an entirely memorable experience. My wife Monica was raised in Seattle, and is very particular about seafood presentations. For starters she ordered the crab cakes, and I ordered the sizzling mushrooms. She took one bite of the crab cake and had an immediate foodgasm. As I did with the mushrooms. She had an urge for a martini for some time before we went, and ordered a martini. She loved it, and nursed it through the entire meal. I ordered some scotch to start with, very good single malt scotch. For an entre we both ordered the wyegu beef tri tip steak. The chef knows how to do steak, ours were done exactly as we specified to the waiter, Walt. If fact, we sent a tip to both the chef, and the bartender is appreciation. And what can I say about Walt. When we needed him he was there, but he didn't hover, or push. We didn't feel neglected, or hurried. All in All it was a wonderful way to spend my 75th birthday. More...

OK I just found the best fish-and-chips probably in the state of Oregon.  I wanted to try the fisherman's stew but it was not quite ready yet. Great excuse to come back and get more fish-and-chips next time .  I read the reviews and I was unsure of this place. I walked in and the place looks magnificent and the service is spot on.   I wasn't sure if the food was gonna be on par with the way the place looked but it was.  I mean you can't  get better fish-and-chips if you went to the coast.   Our server Jeremiah was attentive as well as knowledgeable. He even went back and talk to the chefs about a slight issue with the coleslaw. We just came her with a huge group of 20 for my in-laws birthday. The restaurant was great at accommodating our large group in a private room. There was no front of house person so people would come in and have to wait for someone to noticed they were there. The food and service was great. I did order a meal because it said it came with Butternut Squash, when it arrived at the table it was Butternut Ravioli which I can’t eat because of a Gluten allergy, which was disappointing. Overall, good food. The steaks were undercooked but tasty. Service was good, regular service meaning they asked what we wanted and brought it out. Didn’t see server until after one of us was completed which made it difficult to try to re-cook one of the steaks that was rare when asked for medium. Took my husband here for his 70th birthday and it did not disappoint. We sat by the fire in the center of room and enjoyed an incredible meal of salmon, ribeye, brussel sprouts, asparagus and mushrooms. The waitress was super sweet, attentive and efficient. Love the nostalgic wood paneling inside the bar & dining rooms. Ethan was an excellent and attentive bartender, making intelligent suggestions and offering interesting and nonintrusive conversation. He brings a high level of sportsmanship to craft bartending that I have seen from few others in Salem (see Sydney at Ritter's or Alex at Taproot). Awesome guy. More...

I love Bentley's Grill! It's a great place for me to entertain clients for lunch, or meet up with a friend for drinks at their fantastic bar. The delicious menus created by Hans, the head chef, rotate regularly and never cease to delight the pallet and the eyes. The staff is all super friendly, and provides excellent service every time. Service here is exemplary, as in the entire Grand Hotel. Our friends enjoyed the Korean Chicken wraps, quesadilla, crab cakes. Tips not melt in your mouth tender though very tasty. John, our waiter, was a very nice young man. Quite helpful on helping us select our meal. Some of the definitions, on the menu, were unclear. The Sole covered in crab, had an egg batter. I assumed it meant like an egg type tempura batter..........no, it was eggs poured over the top. Coated it kind of like an omelette. Different, not good. I didn't get it anyway. The Paella was very good! Shell fish cooked to perfection! Salad was great with a hearty blue cheese dressing with plenty of nice, large, pieces of blue cheese in it! They didn't have my beer selection so I compromised. They carry it but were out. A bit disappointing for a nicer establishment. Overall, a great experience. Have been in twice now since they changed management and got a new head chef, prior to that I would have given it 3 stars, Chef Hansi has really bumped up the game here.  We had a great Easter Brunch this last spring and then returned for dinner a few months later.  Cocktails were good, had a few shared plates and was really impressed with both the Brussels sprouts and the Wagyu beef.  For entrees we both went with seafood/fish, I had the mahi mahi  with pineapple and mango that was a special on the menu and it was like a Hawaiian luau on my taste buds. GF got the scallops and the were perfectly cooked as well.  Great wince selection and even have a few flights, I did the Pinot flight with 3 Oregon wines that were all very tasty.  Flour-less dark chocolate cake was the perfect meal-ender.  Only reason for one star is the space itself, super cavernous and not really intimate with odd mix of deco fixtures and a cozy center-placed fireplace but industrial architecture.  Maybe bringing in a good restaurant design consultant would help to make it seem less cafeteria like and more in tune with the fine dining experience the food delivers.  Still not a reason to keep us from returning and/or bringing out of town visitors for an amazing meal.
