Decided to come to Beacon for the day for some flea market action and people watching. Turns out everyone and their mother had the same idea today. After trying a couple of other places and getting turned away because no tables were available, we wandered into this bistro/cafe/bakery and were led to a comfy table. I ordered the ahi tuna wrap and my wife got the special grilled cheese with tomato soup. Both were outstanding--well-balanced flavors, generous (but not overwhelming) portions--and clearly made with care and attention to detail. The sourdough that the grilled cheese was made with was just the right combo of chewy, fluffy, and crisp, and the brightness of the tomato soup was the perfect complement. The ahi was fresh, garnished with shredded cabbage slaw, great flavor combo. I also had a cold brew--refreshing and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. All in all, a delicious and very pleasant dining experience. We will be back. More...

They also charged me a 20% AUTO gratuity. I'm from nyc. I have never paid 20% for such poor service in ny. They also charge an additional fee if you use a credit card. Gabriella is an awesome waitress and Marissa makes great mimosas with their fresh squeezed OJ. I was so looking forward to the bread pudding, but they had none made the day we went. Absolutely delicious food, they had a good service and it was very popular. We had to wait for about 45 minutes to get a table on Saturday morning for brunch. So please plan ahead, you can get food and sit outside if you want to but it needs to be at least 70° to do that or else because of the shade you will feel cold. We had an eggplant sandwich on baguette that they bake fresh on site, eggplant fresh and crisp and delicious. And we had one of their signature cocktails, a martini with house-made hot sauce and olive and pickle juice. It was .....SO GOOD. And served in a vintage one-of-a-kind coupe glass. It was so refreshing and really pretty! For dessert I decided to try the carrot cake and omg it did not disappoint. It was so moist and fresh. I ended up buying 2 more slices to take home. It was that good! The staff that took my order was so nice and bubbly. I wish I got her name so I can give her a shoutout because she was awesome. Place is small but also has outdoor seating. Sit down brunch. The chicken and waffle   is a cleverly functional take on the classic. The waffle is thin and flat (a clone of a Waffle House waffle) and the chicken breast cutlet is pounded very thin. The result is a non-fussy very easily edible, very good dish. The "basic breakfast" is undersold in the menu description and is anything but "basic".   were well done. The included "home fries" were actually savory, well-seasoned, crisped hash browns. It also comes with your choice of toast. Being a bakery, the toast is well above average and while there was no choice of jelly (!), this was redeemed by the offering of a house-made blueberry  compote. More...

We came up to Beacon for the day and stopped into for brunch. We ordered the baguette caprese and Mediterranean tofu scramble. They were both good. However, my only 2 complaints about the dishes were ways to revamp it. One most noticeable change I would make is the baguette traditionally should be crispy, so maybe lightly roasting it so it doesn't get soggy on the bottom. As far as the tofu scramble, it could use more tofu and a different play on the home fries. Once again the baguette it came with should've have been lightly toasted. I would come back and try the other dishes. More...

I always try to give food establishments the benefit of the doubt, given that I know firsthand how hard it is to run a business within that industry, but the experience that I had here was shameful and unethical. Yes, I know it is a matter of small change, but it is the greater principle. Ordered the '2 eggs on a roll', which came with 'cheese' and choice of meat. Upon ordering, I specified that I'd like Swiss cheese, that I don't want any meat and that I'll have tomatoes on a bagel instead of a roll. My wife got soup and bread. After paying, I quickly realized that the total amount seemed high. The receipt indicated that I was up-charged for nearly everything. The full price of the sandwich ($5.95)....+ $1.50 for a bagel + $1.00 for Swiss + $0.50 for the tomatoes.  Again, small change, but give me a break. I inquired with a waiter, who defaulted to bringing over the owner. A woman then came to the table (note: she wasn't the owner) and proceeded to tell me in a rude tone that the sandwich comes with American cheese and meat on a brioche roll. Review the menu; it just says 'cheese'. When I indicated that to her, she stated up a diatribe about how there are very specific distributors for cheese and so forth. I'm not making this up; this actually occurred. Has anyone been up-charged for Swiss cheese over American? Mind you, the cashier never explained that 'cheese' ONLY meant American cheese. I then inquired why I was charged for tomatoes when I didn't get any meat on the sandwich at all. Her very simple response to that, "That was your decision." Yes, she actually said that to me. A true class act. I pushed until I received a 'partial' refund (just for cheese and tomatoes), but how sad is it that this occurred in the first place. And that it took so much effort until she rudely conceded. You get the point. It was totally ridiculous, with her demeanor serving as insult to injury. And don't play the 'farm-to-table' angle. I know the business and I know the margins. This shouldn't have occurred. Shameful. More...

Visited this spot with my parents who aren't hard to please at all but this place was the epitome of gentrification. The flow of this restaurant was very weird. Their is only one counter where they have one employee handle all inquiries. Very long line for people to wait for different things such as to be sat, pick up orders, coffee orders so it took about 10 minutes just to be put on a 40 minute wait. Chicken and waffles was horrible. Do not recommend because the chicken was bland and it's basically a huge chicken tender and the waffles were a disappointment for it being called a "Bread Company". I asked for a soup as a starter but it came with all the entrees and the coffee drinks were just generic nothing to rave about. I enjoyed my omelette but it's hard to mess up eggs I'm a big person on trying something at least once but this would be my only time here. Not sure if we were forgotten or just profiled negatively because every other table was constantly visited but when we asked for a bottled water in the beginning the server didn't mention it again until we were ready to leave. It's not hard doing a two bite check back but I really don't have anything positive to say about this place and that I would've just enjoyed being at the Beacon Diner down the street. More...

I wanted to like this place so bad. The staff were sweet and sincere - there were just several logistical and culinary issues. When we first got there - it was awkward. They do both sit-down/eat-in and takeout. But both are serviced by the same slow moving line (which was exacerbated by patrons not having their order together when they got to the register). So we had to wait for several people to place or retrieve their order before they even added us to the wait list for a table. And we went through a more abbreviated version of that when they called us and told us our table was ready. Even with being short staffed, there are simple layout, triage, and communication options available to address issues like this. When we waited outside, several tables we being accosted by bees. It appeared that the harried wait staff was sympathetic to situation, but weren't able to effectively re-seat the...beeseiged patrons ... or get rid of the bees. Note to staff: when your customers and their food are under bee threat - that becomes a top priority worthy of decisive action and explicit management intervention. We finally got inside. Our server was delightful, attentive, and responsive. The prices were pleasantly modest. But the standard breakfast staple selection was anemic. One standard egg + hash browns plate, a plain omlette, and a western omlette. Not even an Eggs Benedict (even though they had Canadian bacon). But we ordered. Sadly, the food was highly inconsistent. The clam chowder on special was excellent. The grilled vegetable sandwich my significantly better half had was also very good. But her iced coffee was....buttery. Weird, and not tasty. My regular coffee was a bit off - potentially the result of an attempt to supplement the brew with some spice. My eggs and the bread were uninspiring. The hash browns were unlike any I've ever had - but not in a good way. They had some weird spice in them that wasn't working. Last beef - it was loud as a mother in there. The people at table next to us shared an uprorious laugh and it was so loud we wanted to kill them. That's super messed up. When the acoustics cause the reasonable and righteous joy of others to make you wish death on them - there is a problem. Acoustic tiling, white noise generators - something needs to be done.So between the weird waiting games, bee shenanigans, food fails, and noise-induced heachaches - it wasn't for us. But it didn't make us angry - just sad. Plenty of other people were feeling it - so maybe it's us, or was a bad day, or we picked the wrong 10% of the menu. The place and the people who worked there had a really good vibe. Isht just wasn't clicking. More...

Based on the reviews, we were expecting to have an extraordinary meal here. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived on a Sunday at about noon. Once we were seated -- out front, sidewalk tables -- it took about 20 minutes before the wait staff even acknowledged us or brought water to the table, so by the time we were able to order, we were a little frustrated but trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because clearly they did not have enough staff to handle all the tables. Food was not bad, but nothing to write home about. One odd little quirk we noticed: every single table had to ask for silverware and napkins AFTER their food was delivered. I don't get that. Why would you bring hot food to the table and then make people wait while the server goes back inside (and this was no quick turnaround) to get utensils? Odd. Anyway, overall... it was not the best experience, but not terrible either. The wait staff certainly tried their best and were super friendly, but it seems like there might be some issues with how unorganized everything felt. Maybe it was just an off day for them? More...
