I have volunteered for 12 years, no bigger hearts can be found than those who work and volunteer here. Both my current dogs are from the Shelter and both had special requirements to be adopted. Shane was shy and backwards and shown no interest in people and people did not give him more than a glance. He came home with me and did not like me much either back then, 12 years later he is my buddy always sleeping at my feet. Jessie waited at the shelter for 2 years for the right "fit" to come along and even though it really was not me as i had other dogs, we gave it a shot 9 years later i think she fits in just fine. For those who still think shelters are place where animals go to die, you could not be more wrong. Several years back I went in to look at some cats because they were having a Halloween Special. Any cat that had been there over a year that had black in them counted. They asked only that you pay the application fee and you could take them home for free. The moment I picked up the little tortie with a bob tail, I was in love. They called her Bobbi and it fit perfectly. The staff was so friendly and helpful and in a few days she was home. She is the most well behaved sweet cat I have ever had in my life. I fully recommend that you come here for all your pet adoptions since they are always full! Don't go to pet shops, ADOPT! :) More...

We don't have our little lady "Kelly" aka Mia (new name) at our home yet, she is waiting to be spayed but we can NOT wait to introduce her to her 3 legged older Brother and then take her home as soon as she is healed and ready! ! This is my favorite shelter and Humane Society I've been to. I used to volunteer here when I was younger and they were in their old building. They have always been so caring to all animals and truly love what they do and make a huge difference in these animals lives, as well as in the person's life when an animal gets adopted. Not only do they provide a person with a loving caring pet, but they also provide boosters to the animal, a spay/neuter, microchipping, and so much more. After volunteering here as a kid, and watching them grow and thrive as a truly animal-centered organization I decided to adopt my fur baby (dog) from here, Howie. They have been so much more than kind to us, and when I brought him in for his booster (more than weeks after the adoption) they remembered him, loved on him, admired what progress he has made, and of course gave him treats! These animals have been abused, abandoned, or never had a home at all, and the people that work here treat them with so much respect, dignity, and love, I would never think of adopting somewhere else! Adopt don't shop people! And definitely put the Bartholomew County Humane Society on your list of places to adopt from! They are one of the best organizations for animals I have seen yet! More...

We adopted our furbaby, Ash (was called Banjo at the time), back in May and he's the perfect fit for our little family! The whole process of adopting him was smooth and easy and the staff was very friendly. We visited Ash multiple times to get to know him before adopting and after we got approved to adopt the shelter put him in a closed (to the public) area for a few days while we moved so that we could take him to our new place and not have to move him twice.
