Loved the buffet, which had madras chicken, chilly chicken, chicken tandoor, daal, sambar and freshly made naans. There are several vegetarian dishes and desserts as well. Arrived just after opening on a Sunday when a sudden urge for curry hit!!!! This place does NOT fail! Appetizer plate was more than two of us could do and we ordered two entrees and a small bread side. ... unless your a group of eight or so you really don't need the large bread bowl! Everything was FANTASTIC and done extremely well! Nice long meal and a very inexpensive price!!! Went last night....food was fantastic!  The vegetable pakora was soooo go and being fried without being oily!they give you a lot.  Also had the Chicken 65, that was my favorite of the night. But lets not leave out the kashmiri kebabs, so tender and great flavor. We also had dal makhani. That was a great side. And last the rice pudding. Some really good Indian food here with awesome flavors and authentic Indian dishes. I usually order food from here through UberEats and even then it is very good, lots of different sauces, super fresh and flavorful, and a variety of options. Ambience: 5/5. You have to love the setting, just besides the river with an amazing overlooking view. The inside is also spacious and well lighted. Food: 4/5. We had the buffet . Pakoras were great, vegetarian fare was very good and homely. Mango lassi is amazing. Masala tea is super and gulab jamun is melt in the mouth good. This place was amazing! It is on an unsuspecting highway, when driving down the road, you'd never imagine there was a restaurant there. The hospitality and service was amazing. The staff was extremely knowledgeable of food allergies and extremely accommodating. When seated you get this chicken pea type crisp bread with 3 sauces: one sweet, one spicy, one Smokey. For appetizers we got the chickpea breaded fried chicken. The coating was light and airy, and extremely delicious! The chicken was moist and well seasoned as well. My husband got a lamb dish which is said was great, I got the chicken tikka masala which the sauce had the perfect balance of cream, tomato, and spices. I've noticed some places in Connecticut tend to give tikka masala a weird peanut type flavor, but not this place! The naan was also amazingly warm and perfectly toasted! For dessert we shared a mango lassi. You must do this, you'll thank me later! The strong creamy mango flavor is just what's needed after a delicious meal! I honestly really like the food. It's very good. If it were just based on the food, I would have given this place a higher rating. However, my family and I ordered take out and unfortunately something showed up in the food that just shouldn't have been there. I think it was a piece of chicken bone or something. Anyways my mom almost choked on the thing and said it hurt pretty badly as well. Excellent authentic Indian food. The buffet starts at 11am and is $12.65 per person after tax. It can get a bit crowded during buffet hours but that is because the food is so good. Up until 4 years ago I had never tried Indian food for the fear of not enjoying it. I was a little nervous at first because the place was empty.  I went with my in laws who eat here periodically.  The owner recognized them when we walked in and gave s a warm welcome.  The food was great and the portions were way more than enough!!  My father in law ordered a soup but they forgot to bring it.  He mentioned it to the Waiter but told him he didn't need it anymore.  The owner over heard and said it was his fault.  He ended up taking it off the bill and packing it in with our to go containers.  He also gave us small tastes of rice pudding which was just the perfect small bite to end our meal.  Terrific food and terrific people.  I will definitely return. Let me start out by saying I am not a fan of Indian food - the flavor profile just doesn't work for me.  But my grandson likes Indian and he was in town so I went to the restaurant I had heard so much about. From out of town: very familiar with Indian food. We showed up during lunch and were confused that there was no menu. Very quickly we found out that they have a buffet for lunch. The food here was excellent. It did not have the same spiciness as most Indian places. They replaced some of the Normal hot spice with a little sweeter flavors. Beyond amazing food, service and ambience. Baingan takes perfection to a whole nother level.  What sets this place up for success is the great customer service.  Our server/ host made our dining experience great! They were all very attentive,  friendly,  authentic, upbeat,  and genuine! Being this was our first visit to Baingan he made a point to make food recommendation that would pair well with each other.Our appetizer was a a yummy shrimp dish called "Shrimp Poori". This dish came with well seasoned shrimp in a curry/garlic sauce laid in a tasty buttery bread bowl. It was soooo good and I was sad to see it was gone within moments of hitting the table. Holy moly. The lunch buffet was too good to describe. After LOVING Curry Leaves, we struggled to find another Indian buffet as good. We loved this place!  We were staying in Shelton and looking for a place to eat.  It seemed like it was almost all pizza place and chains, then when we saw the reviews for Baingan, we knew was had to try it!  We got chicken pakoras (among the best I've had), garlic naan, malai kofta, goat biryani, saag paneer, and gulab jamun.  My son also got a mango lassi.  We enjoyed everything.  I'm typically not a huge fan of goat, but the goat biryani was fantastic.  The food was plentiful and the prices were good.  I'm used to Boston area restaurant prices, and we certainly got much better bang for our buck here than at our neighborhood Indian restaurant up here.  We already decided that next time we drive through CT, we are stopping here!!
