Josh, who owns Backcountry K-9 Training, knows how to deal with and train dogs of all breeds and backgrounds. He helped us to get both of our dogs trained at the same time. One dog is our older male Cane Corso who is 5 years old and had difficulties with not pulling on the leash, especially when in a strange territory unfamiliar to him. Our other dog is a female Boxer mix who is 18 months old, and who we just rescued from Texas 2 months ago. She had to have complete training from the ground up, including house breaking. Josh was able to get our Cane Corso polished up on all of his prior training, along with getting him to calm down more quickly and not pull on the leash in strange territories. This is a 100 lb. dog who would put all of his might into trying to drag us in whatever direction he wanted to go. Josh also got our new female dog up to speed on all of the basic commands. She now has good recall, and sits and lies down on command. Her leash walking skills are up to par, as well, with no pulling. House breaking is also pretty much complete, also. My wife and I are very satisfied with Josh and his training methods. We hired Josh to help us with our 2 boys Bronin and Murphy. They are pix mixes with tons of energy and very little manners. Leash walking them together was a struggle because they pulled and became what we thought was aggressive when we passed other people/dogs. We also had a problem having people over because there boys would jump/bark/growl when someone entered the house. Thanks to Josh we can now take the boys hiking off leash, walk them together and have people over without them being out of control. Josh helped us to understand and recognize the boys behaviors and taught us how to work with them so we can be comfortable in situations that used to seem impossible. My first goal when working with Josh was for off leash hiking with one of my dogs Trooper and loose leash hiking with my other dog Brother who is deaf. I never thought I would be comfortable having Brother off leash with his inability to hear me . I can confidently say that after completing the 8 week training Trooper and Brother are off leash hikers! I can also confidently say that I can handle both big pups by myself in busy areas!
Josh was amazing through every training session. Trooper is an intense food motivated attention hog while Brother is the laid back, wallflower. Josh was able to tailor different training methods to fit there individual needs while working with both of them at the same time.
The amazing progress they have made in 8 weeks is of course noticed by me but also everyone around the dogs and I. Not only have I gained confidence and empowerment , but the pups have too.
I recommend Backcounty training and Josh to everyone. His love and passion for dogs shines through how he trains. Every week the dogs and I looked forward to our training sessions because they were fun and rewarding! More...

I can't say enough about Josh. He is very knowledgeable in every situation we brought forth to him. In the several weeks he spent with Luna, she made a complete turn around. From being a very stubborn (but adorable) pup, she now listens to commands and is well behaved. My walks with her went from frustrating, to say the least, to pleasurable. Josh taught not just Luna, but us as well, how to interact and get the most joy from each other. He was so genuinely happy to see her each week. It's obvious that he loves what he does. Best decision we've ever made! Josh was great! Learning the correct command words to use improved communication between us and our hound-mix rescue. It is so much less stressful now! He gave us clear instructions for reinforcement, answered all of our questions and was reasonably priced. She was so excited to see him when he arrived at our home. The best part was watching her use the treadmill! Being able to have some outlet for her energy during these winter months saved us.
