Atomic Vibe is a standup operation. The lead designer, Jon Stapp, is a gifted man both in approach and craft. He dives deep into your world to understand the subtleties of your particular project, then makes beautiful, effective art that makes your project shine. To cap it all off, Jon is a great guy to work with. He's funny, detail oriented, and a clear communicator. He is my go-to guy for all serious branding projects now. More...

Jon has an exceptional ability to interpret a clients brief and deliver outstanding and imaginative work. His enthusiasm for our project was contagious and came through in the final delivery, creating a project that far exceeded our expectations.

Jon is also a great communicator, which is vital when working in a creative industry.

We have no doubt we will be working with Jon again in the future and look forward to seeing even more exceptional creative work.

Q&As

The first step in our process is to meet our clients — by phone, video chat, or in person — to discuss the parameters of the project, and to determine if we are a good fit for each other.
.
If we decide that we are, indeed, a good fit, the next step is to conduct a thorough Q&A session. This is done first by having our clients fill out two detailed questionnaires: a Creative Brief, and a Client Questionnaire. Once the forms are complete, we review the documents and almost invariably ask many questions. Clear, honest, and detailed upfront communication is the key to building trust, and trust is the foundation of any successful project.
.
Once both parties agree that all questions have been answered satisfactorily, we generate an Estimate and Terms of Agreement form, which must be signed by the client before any work can commence. We also secure a 50% deposit before starting the project.
.
Then the actual creative portion of the process begins.
.
If there's a written component, e.g., business naming, tagline development, messaging, or other copywriting, we start there. We also start sketching visuals with pencil and paper.
.
For branding and corporate identity projects, we start sketching logos, lettering, and/or other core brand elements. These start as very rudimentary thumbnails, and then tighten up as solid creative ideas begin to manifest.
.
Once all ideas have been explored in sketch form, we then move to the computer to digitally flesh out the best concept in our Brand Concept Development phase.
.
We explore the logo suite, tagline, and other messaging being used alongside typography, colors, patterns, illustrations, icons, and/or other graphic elements. This exploration of visual concepts directs the development of brand guidelines and, through an extensive proof of concept presentation, demonstrates how the various branding elements will work harmoniously across multiple communication and marketing touch points. The look and feel of the brand is established by the end of this phase and the creative direction is used as the basis for the design and production of all future marketing materials.
.
We present the Brand Concept in a video chat session, and, with client approval, the development and production of actual communication and marketing assets will commence, using the proof of concept mockups created during the Brand Concept development phase as a starting point. This can include assets such as business cards, stationery, signage, packaging, promotional materials, advertising (print & digital), social media, website, etc.

During our thorough Q&A, we ask many questions, and we engage in extensive, meaningful, and productive dialogue with our clients. Some of those questions have been listed above.
.
But basically, before starting any job, we require our Creative Brief and Client Questionnaire forms to be filled out, our Estimate and Terms of Agreement to be signed, and a 50% deposit secured.

While I love art and design, what I love most is being able to emotionally connect with our clients, and with an effective and cohesive brand strategy, help them successfully connect with their target audiences.

I have been in this industry for 21 years, and after working in design studios and big agencies, I always felt like a cog in the machine, and I never felt 100% ownership of any of the work I produced. I yearned to work directly with clients, and to call my own creative shots. Starting my own business provided me the opportunity to fulfill both of those desires.

Clients should choose me because I am an expert in the field of branding and corporate identity. I have been building my craft for 21 years, and in that time, I have worked with a broad range of clients across a variety of industries including hospitality, technology, sports, food and beverage, nonprofits, education, science, and public health.
.
Notable clients include: Freddie Mac, Four Seasons, Volkswagen, The Washington Redskins, Inspirato with American Express, Newseum, Defenders of Wildlife, Boston Public Schools, CDC, NIH, and HHS.
.
I also have extensive luxury real estate branding experience, having worked with many powerhouses in the industry such as: The Bozzuto Group, DSF Group, Erkiletian, The JBG Companies, Forest City Enterprises, Inc., Foulger-Pratt, Rushmark Properties, and The Mosites Company.
.
Prior to launching atomicvibe, I was an Art Director at HZDG, a large branding agency with offices in MD, DC, CA, and NY. Before that, I was an Art Director at AIR, one of the world's largest behavioral and social science research and evaluation organizations.
.
My work has been published in the following design books:
.
- LogoLounge 11
- LogoLounge 10
- LogoLounge 8
- Letterhead + Logo Design 12
- Typism: Book Two
- Design: Logo
- Logopond v1
