Athena was a great photographer to work with! She is personal and professional. I really liked how she was so friendly. She is a very talented photographer. Working with her was easy. She also worked with my budget which I greatly appreciated!An issue I had with her style of photography was the edited black and white photos. Some of the black and white photos I wanted in color, but she was not willing to change it to color. I would make sure that you are okay with black and white before booking her. Also, make sure to tell her if you want detail shots (shoes, rings, bows on pews, gift table, sign in table etc.) I only found out after I got my photos back that I would have needed to hire a second photographer to get these shots. I was dissapointed, as I thought these would have been photographed.Overall my experience was very good, just was disappointed about a few things.UPDATE: Athena reached out to me via email which I was not expecting! She made things right and offered to give me any photos I wanted from black in white to color. I really appreciate the time she took to reach out to me. Athena did our wedding in October, and we could not be more pleased not only with how the photos turned out (gorgeous!) but also with meeting and working with Athena herself.  She is so easy to be around and helped us feel comfortable in front of the camera (something we were totally not used to).  She is also sweet, funny, and amazing at capturing some lovely, lovely shots.  We will definitely be contacting Athena again for future photoworthy events in our life! Athena was AMAZING to work with! As others have commented, she is so much fun to be around and her photos are truly beautiful. . and I'm a snobby perfectionist. My husband and I are camera fearing people. We hate our photo being taken because inevitably the camera almost always catches us at that weird, mouth open, unattractive angle. So, we always get shy and weird when there's a camera pointed at us. Needless to say, we hoped that Athena's ability to capture beautiful photos of other couples would ring true for us as well. After spending about 10 minutes with Athena, I forgot that she was even taking photos of us. She is so stinking fun! She has a great way of assimilating into a group and bringing a stress-free bubble with her. We laughed and joked around with her all day, and literally wanted her to party with us after she "clocked off". Her awesomeness is worth mentioning because I'm certain that if we were uncomfortable around her, our pics wouldn't have been as fantastic as they were. Her photos are beautiful! Seriously. She captures people in such a natural way, without the whole mouth open bit. When we got the photos back, we were so happy to see how much of the day she captured and the variety of photos we had. We did not do a first look, but Athena was still able to get great photos of us, our families, and our bridal party all within the 1 hour cocktail party. We LOVE our photos! Athena photographed our wedding, and also our engagement shoot, which we were super nervous about (awkward sappy posing, we thought? - she made it fun!), and working with her was a very positive experience!  She quickly makes everyone feel comfortable, even those of us who are camera shy or uncomfortable with posing, and she doesn't stick to the mold when it comes to photographing.  She's creative and wonderful at capturing the small or less-seen moments, and wants her photos to really reflect the couple.  Our wedding photos really reflect the whole day, from the little details of the venues that we barely got to soak in on the day-of and are so thrilled to have documented, to the posed but not overly posed family/bridal party/couple shots, to the ceremony and the reception.  She did a great job of painting the full picture of how it felt, the sights, the people, the whole thing--which is really meaningful to us since a few special family members couldn't be there.  On the day of, Athena arrived early and jumped into snapping photos, getting some cool moments that we hadn't planned on having her there for.  We hired Athena after seeing her photograph our friends' wedding--I think at least three couples have hired her based on our experience with her at that wedding and then seeing her beautiful photos of it.  I think this says a lot about her.  And our friends have all raved so much about our photos that I would't be surprised if- when wedding time comes for any of them- they hire her too! We had a wonderful family photo shoot with Athena at the Yuba River. It was drizziling when we arrived, but Athena left it up to us if we wanted to go ahead with the shoot. It looked like it was going to stop raining, so we decided to go ahead, and I'm so glad we did. The lighting was perfect, and she was able to capture our family naturally in a beautiful setting. She was professional and very patient. When I saw the photos on her blog, I was so happy. She had the proofing gallery ready soon after, and choosing photos/prints was easy. I can't recommend Athena enough!  She did an amazing job photographing our wedding and capturing all those important moments.  We felt very comfortable with her and the other photographer Georgette.  There were times we even forgot they were there. My husband and I are so pleased with our pictures.  Athena is totally professional and has such a gift for capturing all those little moments.  Also she was so helpful in making sure that everything went smoothly.  We even asked her to stay a bit later at the reception and she happily obliged. We decided not to do engagement photos so we asked Athena to photograph our rehearsal dinner instead.  She had no problem with this request and our rehearsal dinner pictures turned out great.  I can't imagine having hired a different photographer.  Athena made us feel totally at ease and made the day that much more special for us. I've known Athena for years but would not have hired her had I not also been hugely impressed with her work, which anyone can see is outstanding. My wife and I got married in Los Angeles but decided we'd fly Athena down and put her up for the weekend to have her shoot our wedding. It was well worth it.Coordinating everything was much easier than I expected and Athena did a great job of making the travel work. On the day of our wedding, she showed up early and worked energetically the entire rest of the day. We planned a small wedding and did not have a lot of help on hand, and Athena went well above and beyond her photographer duties to help coordinate and keep everything on schedule, while still making sure to capture all the little moments along the way. My wife later said that she would not have made it through the day without Athena's assistance, reassurance, and professionalism.As expected, Athena's work was top-notch. We gave her some challenging lighting situations and a pretty tight schedule in which to capture images of us, our families, and all our friends. She was always ready to step up to the challenge, and her suggestions along the way were invaluable. We hadn't planned to go to Union Station as we didn't think we'd have time, but Athena suggested we just go for it and it resulted in some of the best shots of the entire day.Finally, Athena went above and beyond and stayed late to capture the first hour or so of our after-party when a large number of friends and family who weren't part of our ceremony arrived. Having pictures of all those people was really important to us, so it was great that Athena was willing to be flexible with how we spread her time out with a break in the middle -- and then stayed late even on top of that. Quite simply, Athena is an incredibly talented photographer and I feel 100% confident that anyone who chooses her for their wedding photographer will feel the same way. We were wary at first, having just picked Athena off of Yelp, but I immediately felt at ease after our first phone conversation. We had already had a family member take engagement pics so told Athena we didn't need them - she offered to do the session free of charge so that we could get to know each other before the wedding. So before we even met, I had the feeling that her priority was our wedding, and not her billable hours. Love. In an hour with waning light, she got an incredible number of great engagement shots. We immediately felt a connection with Athena; like we would definitely be friends if we lived nearby. Our wedding was in the evening at the Miner's Foundry, and I was worried about the lack of lighting. She unobtrusively captured our candle lit special evening in front of the fireplace so beautifully. Now the hard part is choosing prints from hundreds of amazing shots! Yes! Woohoo...Athena is as good as it gets!My husband and I can't speak highly enough about Athena. Choosing the perfect photographer for our wedding day was a huge priority to us! After searching for the perfect fit, meeting with Athena and seeing her portfolio we knew immediately she was the perfect fit. Our engagement photos were gorgeous! The wedding images, are stunning. Athena captured every special moment. Now with the wedding behind us we are so thankful that we had Athena as our photographer! She exceeded our expectations. Athena's talented lens captures the most special and intimate moments and turns them into incredibly amazing art. My (now) husband and I searched for months to find the right photographer for our wedding.  We wanted the day to be documented with a unique style and artistic flair. We had no desire for the standard, stale, posed shots that are typical of wedding photography. We were looking for a creative, engaging, fun, and fearless partner in crime who could hang out with us throughout our day and capture the moments that we would want to remember for a lifetime. We provided some basic concepts and inspiration to Athena and she absolutely took those ideas and owned them (even the Annie Leibovitz Vogue cover inspiration we challenged her with!). We actually had people go out of their way to comment after the wedding on how cool our photographer was... and then ask for her contact info once they saw the pictures! My only regret is not having more time to spend taking pictures with her to see what more could have been captured!  Bottom line: Athena makes you feel like a rockstar.  You'll love her and you'll love your pictures. Living in NYC, and planning a wedding in Sacramento was quite challenging at first. I wanted a photographer who could produce some beautiful pictures of my wedding. I hired Athena over the phone without meeting her first because just by speaking with her, I knew we would mesh together just fine, and of course her portfolio was just the style I was looking for. Athena captured beautiful memories of our wedding! She is a professional, patient, and totally sweet! She makes you feel very comfortable behind the camera. After the disappointing experience my husband and I had with the photographer Dennis De Silva Studio 7 at our wedding (see my review here on Yelp), we decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with cake, champagne and some new pictures of us in our "Wedding attire". Sort of like a "trash the dress" photo shoot without any dress trashing.I did not want to spend too much money, so I booked what seemed like a  good enough and relatively cheap photographer I found on craigslist without too much thought. Little did I know I was up for a fun and rewarding experience with a talented and cheerful photographer like Athena.She made our wedding anniversary special and I love the pictures of the anniversary way more than the ones from the wedding. Instead of Dennis bossing us around and taking fake spontaneous shots, when I look at the pictures Athena took I think of a happy and fun day with a great artist.Recently, I recommended her to  a friend, who also had the same wonderful experience, so I thought I should review her here on yelp, so that more people might take advantage of her talent.
