We decided to refinish our floors right after closing on our house. Going with Andrew and his company was one of the best decisions we made during this process. He provided a reasonable quote but what really stood out was how well he was able to work within our tight timeframe. We needed the work to be done after other home repairs but before we moved in. Even with a shorthanded team he threaded that needle and turned our ~55 year old floors brand new again. Five stars. Superb.We had a couple of estimates for our floor. Michael, Ann Arbor Hardwoods' owner, was by far the most competent and professional. Pricing was competitive, too. It wasn't the lowest price, but the range was less than you might have thought.During a kitchen remodel, we wanted to re-do the floor as well. It had had 25 years of hard use and abuse, and it was showing its age. Michael walked us through the process, gave us the various options (stain or no stain, for example), all without pressure. He obviously knows what he's doing and his experience with hardwood floors shows.When it came time for the actual refinishing, the crew were prompt, courteous, professional and exceptionally tidy. Sanding floors produces sawdust (surprise!), but the vacuums used during the process kept the sawdust to a minimum. I covered the television downstairs with a plastic sheet (I recommend that), but that was about it. We had no dust upstairs.We had some repair work done at the same time. It was immaculate. You couldn't tell there had been repairs in the water-damaged area by the dishwasher or in front of the closet where the door frame had been replaced. We opted for no stain. That's a personal preference and a bit of a gamble since the wood color is unknown until the old stain comes off. Good choice. The wood looked great after the sanding and the 3 coats of sealant really brought it to life. NOTE: Plan a little time into the schedule to leave the floor sealant to dry properly. A week or so should be enough. You probably don't want to drag a dishwasher over the floor the day afterwards, like we had planned to do (but didn't).After the sealant had dried, the crew replaced the quarter-round edging around the entire area. My wife and I had Ann Arbor Hardwoods refinish the floors in our home, and we simply cannot explain in words how amazing they are (but I'll try). We combined a full-house floor refinish (sand, stain, clear) with a kitchen remodel, and Michael was great about working with us on timing, which was important because after the floors were done, there was still some more work to do in the kitchen. He also did a good job sitting down with us and explaining the process, the materials they use (and why/how they differ from what many other hardwood refinishing companies use), and the timing (how long the project would take, when we can start moving furniture, when we can put down rugs, etc...).We also had some new hardwood installed in the kitchen to go with the rest of the hardwood in the house (from the 1950's). Michael was really helpful, and even took time out of his day to come measure the moisture levels in the new hardwood before they got installed (installed by our kitchen contractor). Both Michael and our kitchen contractor explained that due to different sourcing of lumber between 1955 and now, the new floor may not 100% match the old floors, even after a full refinish. We agreed that it would be OK, and Michael said they would do their best.Long story short, AAH did a PHENOMENAL job, and the floors do match very, very well! We cannot tell at all where the new floor was blended in to the old one. The rest of the AAH team were great, very nice and helpful, and we never had an issue with them at all. We needed a company to refinish hardwood floors in our new Ann Arbor home, and were looking for a black/espresso finish to match our stairway.  Michael was prompt, honest and professional during the consultation, and was competitively-priced.  Then, he even agreed to give an estimate for painting our kitchen cabinets--which we eventually decided to do as well.  We could not be more pleased with the end results.  Both the floors and cabinets look INCREDIBLE!  The guys on the crew were clean, courteous and friendly.  They stuck to the time estimate, and kept us updated throughout.  They even followed up after the job and dropped off some professional cleaning supplies!  We are picky professionals, and have used different flooring/contractors in the past.  I can say without hesitation that Ann Arbor Hardwoods is the only place to go when you need work on your floors or cabinets.  A+ rating from two very, very satisfied customers. We had their team sand and finish one room and 13 stairs and a landing. We were extremely impressed with the outcome, and especially with the team's concern that the job be done to the highest standards. They had to make repairs on our stairs and fill in holes before finishing, and essentially restored 100-year-old surfaces to look like new. We'd recommend them for any flooring work. More...

Mike and his team were excellent and the level of craftsmanship was stellar. I own a rental property in Ypsilanti and the tenants had been ROUGH on the floors. After Mike came through, evaluated the condition of the floors, and refinished them they look brand new. Also, Mike was very good at giving me maintenance tips so they work done would last longer, recommended the proper sealants, and did not try to give me extra services he knew I did not need. Michael and his team were extremely professional and personable, when we hired them to resurface our hardwoods in a small first floor room.  I was impressed with the quality of their work and their willingness to discuss options with us.  Even after we decided to install our own hardwoods in another room, Michael took 10 minutes of his time to walk through the room with us, share some best practices and make recommendations.  He received no pay for this, but he clearly loves his job and takes pride in his work, so he was happy to guide us through the process.
