My husband and I have been together since 1996, but for the past several years we have been growing apart and increasingly resentful of each other. We had completely forgotten how to be in love and our future was very uncertain.I have never been to any kind of therapy or counseling, but was at the end of my rope. I wish we had done this as soon as we got married.We have been seeing Jennifer Wheat for 5 months. At first that hour each week was really the only time we would talk to each other, but now there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have never met anyone quite like April before. She really is a treasured gem. I have only been seeing her for a short time but she has already had an incredible impact on my life, my heart and my soul. April is not only an amazing therapist but a wonderful human being as well. I've gone to April off and off for 8 years. The minute you see her you just "know" her. She is like the balm for the weary. I've been a life coach myself, so I tend to be rather "picky" about who I want and need to share my life with . She's beyond any counselor I've ever had. I haven been a client of April's since 2011. April is kind, humble, empathetic, and non judgemental. She is engaging in her conversations and gives you ideas and suggestions in therapy to improve your situation. She has given me different tools to help with my anxiety and relieve my stress. Mrs. April has welcomed me into her office with open arms. From the very beginning I have felt completely and totally comfortable sitting and bringing my concerns to her attention. She not only listens to all the things I bring to her, she remembers small intricate details of my life that I mention to her, confirming to me that I am more than just another body walking through the door. She has been nothing short of incredible with the help in my marriage and with the recent passing of my sweet momma. I initially came to April as a single mom struggling with concerns about my adolescent daughters. April has been a blessing as she has shared her knowledge of issues that tend to arise in families formed by adoption. It is a relief to work with a therapist who understands attachment and identity concerns. She has gently guided me through recognizing the differences between normal teenage behavior and the warning signs of much deeper problems.
April was able to help me feel at ease and accepted from the very first visit. She offers authentic feedback and support in a non-judgmental and caring manner. I'm so grateful for April. I walked into her office with the hopes of working through some things from my past and upbringing and how that may be affecting my marriage to my amazing husband and my parenting with my sweet children. I knew there were things that needed dealt with, but I wasn't excited to start the journey. I wanted a Godly/Biblical perspective but someone who was educated and capable of setting me on the right path even if it took some work. April immediately made me feel calm and secure that everything I was feeling and thinking was valid and that we would get it worked out. She is gentle and wise and cares deeply. I left every session with tools and wisdom to apply that I still use almost everyday and share with others. She starts all our times together praying for us and what is about to be said. It provides such a comfort. I can be completely open and vulnerable because she creates such a lovely environment that I feel safe in and not judged. Her space she created is calm and peaceful and welcoming and you just feel cared for in her presence. My husband and I would see her together just for "check ups" and we leave feeling encouraged and challenged. I don't see her regularly anymore because she's just that good and was able to really help me settle so much of why I even started to see her, but I do still check in and uncover new things that just help to make me a better wife, mama, friend and person.
