I came across ADS while I was looking for someone to do my wedding hair and ended up here for a trial beforehand. I was scheduled with Melanie and she did an AMAZING job. She listened to my opinions and preferences but still made suggestions and gave her professional advice to guide my decision-making. The day of my wedding she did both my hair and makeup and other staff did my bridesmaids. Silva is a wonderful stylist and takes time to deliver beautiful results, not to mention educate you as to how to style your hair at home; I've received so many compliments on the three haircuts she's done, and felt like I could style it on my own afterwards. She never pushed products on me, but always lets me know what she's using and how to use it in case I want to replicate the look. You can tell she is very passionate about what she does and is full of ideas, plus is very open and honest about what would look best on you.I can't give five stars due to some scheduling issues I've had with the administrative staff that have been frustrating...they are very polite, though, and otherwise pleasant to work with. ATTENTION MEN!LOOKING FOR A BRAZILIAN / HOLLYWOOD?THIS IS THE PLACE!!!I've been all over and followed reviews looking for a decent place in the Boston area that offer a men's Hollywood and most if not all have sadly have been disappointing . Everyone I knew was going to this place in Brookline which had great buzz but wound up being terrible (ingrown hairs / extreme pain / even band aids were involved ) my friends were stuck going there since few places offer waxing for men.Soooo one day after asking the 900th spa if they waxed men only to be shunned once again like some freak, a woman leaving heard me ask and said "go to American day spa and ask for Elin she's the best!"So off I went expecting medieval pain and torture with lackluster results but no that didn't happen  because Elin is the rockstar of waxing!!Elin is fast !Elin is accurate! I have only ever been here for waxing services (though may try a haircut sometime) and Elin is the only person I trust anymore to take care of that. I have been going to her for a few years now - even after moving to Chelsea, I make the trip to Belmont on a regular basis. Elin is friendly, professional and very detailed. Besides the amazing job she consistently does (always get compliments on my freshly done brows), the prices are very fair. Oh, and the wax is soy-based, which is more gentle on the skin (noticeable difference). Only a little red after brow and lip waxing, but it seems to go away quickly. I followed my favorite hair dresser, Molly, to ADS. Today was my first visit and it was lovely to be greeted immediately by the receptionist and offered a beverage, and I was taken exactly on time for both of my services. Molly is the best hairdresser I have ever had, and I hope she never moves too far away because I refuse to see anyone else! It's not very often you find a hairstylist who loves what she does, is AMAZING at cutting, coloring AND styling, puts the customer first, and is just an all-around wonderful person, but that's Molly. She has the incredibly uncommon ability to make you feel comfortable in her hands by asking you what you're looking for but also empowering you to make educated decisions on what you want through her explanation of certain processes or what certain things will look like or why something may or may not be the best idea for you. She takes great pride in her career and you leave her chair feeling an incredible sense of pride in how you look. She brought me back from a really bad hair color situation I was in prior to seeing her.... she truly saved my hair and reinstated my self confidence. Molly also put in my hair extensions and helped me learn how to style them myself. And there's really no greater compliment I could give anyone than to hire them to do my hair and my bridesmaids' hair for my wedding and Molly earned it. I also saw Elin today for a Brazilian wax. I'm extremely impressed with her professionalism and efficiency, as well as with the cleanliness of the studio. Just moved to Belmont, (from San Diego, CA) and Yelp is my place to go to get reviews for everything I need, specially Brazilian waxing. This is a review about the hair services - in particular, Sandra, who is AWESOME! In summary: She is truly talented, experienced, has great suggestions, and is a perfectionist. She will keep working with you until you get exactly the look you want - she has even had me come back for a second appointment (free of charge) when she sensed that I wasn't 100% happy with my hair color the first time around. I've gone back to her 3 times and I will definitely keep doing so!---Longer review:I am picky about my hair and once I find someone I stick with them until I move and I am literally too far away to keep going back. I tried ADS and was scheduled with Sandra last December. The availability was fantastic and the place is very clean and professional. Sandra listened closely, cut my hair exactly the way I wanted, and had great suggestions when I asked her opinion - plus she was really easy to talk to the whole time (and I'm not even normally very talkative). On a whim, I actually decided to add some color to my hair and she was happy to make the time for it. Unfortunately, the color process was not exactly the result we were looking for (it didn't lighten my hair quite as much as I wanted)...so she suggested that I try it out for 24 hours and if I didn't like it to call back and she would fix it free of charge. I did end up calling back and coming back in a few days later and my hair ended up looking incredible. I got tons of compliments and I absolutely love the look. Everyone else at this place also seems really nice and I get the sense that there are lots of regulars so I really feel confident in the 5 star rating. I am VERY picky with my hair and I won't go to just anybody. I heard about Silva Marsoubian's talent through a friend so I decided to give her a try since my usual stylist was out on maternity leave. I'm a golden blonde with fair skin but needed some sort of contrast because I was feeling washed out. I saw Silva and she knew right away what needed to be done. She gave me low lights  with some high lights and such a contrast that I am in love with my hair now. I'm still blonde but now I have some dimension and I don't feel washed out anymore. She also cut my hair and gave me the best blow-dry of my life. This girl is definitely a talent. She wouldn't let me leave her chair until my hair was perfect. She is also so sweet and so kind! I have been getting my hair cut by Melanie for a few years as well as my waxing by Elin.  This is BY FAR the BEST place I have been.  I tried many Salons in the Watertown/Belmont area and was never truly happy with my hair until discovering ADS and Melanie.  Recently I moved an hour and a half away as well as got a new job an hour away and I still travel to ADS for all my hair and waxing needs!  I have extremely sensitive skin and waxing usually causes the area to get red, raw and swollen.  Elin's technique is so good that my brows only get a little red but never raw or puffy!  Plus, the wax lasts way longer than the normal 4ish weeks that I usually go.  Once I was able to go 7 weeks between waxes with no touch ups in between!  Amazing!   Totally worth the steep $16 for a brow wax! I have never had a Brazilian before (I usually just shave) but with a broken wrist, I can't do much on my own to groom so I decided to suck it up and do it. Elin was amazing, I was in and out the door within 15 minutes with a fantastic wax! She knew it was my first time and was so nice and talkative, which really helps distract you! This review is for Melanie, one of the hairdressers at ADS. She did the updos for me and my bridesmaids for my wedding a few weeks ago, which were FABULOUS. When I heard she was at ADS, I thought, someone who is such a genius with updos can surely give me a trim, right? RIGHT! My hair is medium-long and curly, so it can be tricky to shape the layers, but she did a wonderful job. She is very good at listening to her customer and making sure you get exactly what you're looking for, and she also has a unique talent for helping you know what you want, which is great for me because I have a hard time articulating how I want my hair done.
