Before joining/investing in Pali Ke Kua Wellness, I really wanted to lose weight and also get in shape for a race, but I felt like what I was doing was not working and I didnt know where to start. What was your biggest hesitation, or objection prior to joining Pali Ke Kua Wellness? Honestly, I was hesitant about working out virtually vs. in-person. That hesitation was quickly put to rest in my first session. The team at Pali Ke Kua Wellness is hyper-focused on my form, technique and progress - in reality probably more virtually than in a gym setting because there are far less distractions.

What was your biggest fitness/life problem you had before joining Pali Ke Kua Wellness? Poor mobility, posture and honestly an all or nothing mentality.

Where are you now in your journey? How has your Coach helped you? Literally a day and night difference from when I started. My mobility has improved greatly, I look taller because my posture has gotten so much better and I've learned the art of balance in my work out routine.

Working with Alyssa for the past three years has changed my life for the better in countless ways. I feel more vibrant and youthful at 57 than I was at 47. I am more active, more emotionally stable. I look younger, I feel younger. My balance is fantastic! as is my health. I could go on and on.
I was never much of an athlete having lived with undiagnosed celiac.
Working on mobility and building muscle for the first time has been a joyous discovery of what I am capable of, supported by an empathetic, understanding coach. Alyssa is willing and able to change programs on the fly due to injury or pain. I can’t imagine not having her amazing knowledge and support in my life! This journey has been a true gift. I didn't think virtual training would work for me. I was recovering from a major surgery and wanted to recover the strength and fitness I had. Having worked with trainers I know how important it is to have a professional carefully guide and coach new movements so you don't get injured.
I've been working with Pali Ke Kua Wellness for over a year now and I'm very pleased with the personalized training plan, the focus during our virtual sessions and the results! I successfully completed a cycling century Fall of 2023 and am looking forward to more ambitious events in the coming year. Highly recommended!

My biggest hesitation in joining PKKW was that I would have a hard time keeping up with doing all the workouts and keeping that consistency. But I have been more consistent than I thought I'd be and I think it's due to the source of accountability that's provided through the program at PKKW thatoutside of just my own self discipline. I’ve managed to able to constantly think about healthier choices and building strength, even when I have a few days where I slip up food-wise or missing a workout I have that reminder and someone there checking up on me to keep me on track. I joined Pali Ke Kua to help guide me on my strength training journey. Before joining I would just Google workouts every day and do those. I also had a hard time finding motivation to work out consistently. Without any structure I obviously was not seeing any results. With PKKW I finally have a set and structured plan to help me reach my goals. Coach Alyssa creates great training programs catered to your needs. Prior to joining Pali Ke Kua Wellness, I was very skeptical that a remote training program could work. I've always been a gym person but in recent years my work has prohibited me from having the time to get into the gym (not helped by the pandemic which broke my routine of course! ). I was struggling to get back into working out, feeling like I'd gained way too many pounds, lost all fitness, and depressed about my lack of progress in getting a routine going again. I was feeling very dissociated from my body. Getting started was SO hard!

Alyssa at Pali Ke Kua Wellness talked through with me what I was hoping to achieve, actively listened to where I was at both emotionally, mentally, and physically, and created a slow ramp up program for me, assessing where I was succeeding (or not) along the way, and tailoring carefully through feedback. This meant I slowly reset my daily routines and got into programs that eased me back into exercise with sessions in the home, and then one day a week in the gym. Alyssa worked with me to tailor a program focused on stress reduction through breathing exercises and stretching plus a strength building routine that is easy to follow, yet pushes me. She switches things up to keep the routines fun too! Her nutrition, sleep and general physical and mental wellness advice keeps me mindful about my health and wellness as part of my everyday practice. She helps me set realistic goals, and helps me work with feelings of disappointment if I felt I am not progressing fast enough.

All in all the highly tailored and responsive training program is more about all day, everyday life practice as well as strength training. I like to say working with Alyssa at Pali Ke Kua Wellness is a holistic emotional and mental as well as physical strength and resilience program, tailored specifically for me, responsive to where I am at on any particular day but focused on maintaining a routine that keeps me moving in the right general direction toward better overall fitness and health.

Now, I am doing a little something everyday, eating better, and sleeping better. I'm still hoping to improve my cardio a bit and have some plans for that, and have a few more "pandemic pounds" I'd like to shift. But overall feeling a lot stronger in body and mind, and I have a tool kit of body-focused things that are easy to do and satisfying to see results from.

I am so happy that I joined, and that I have continued with my training with Alyssa. My biggest hesitation was the remote training aspect. However, the transition from live in person before Covid to the present has been seamless and very convenient. Alyssa is so highly skilled that the video interface is just as good as in person.

Probably the biggest problem, I faced with my physical well-being before joining was aches and pains, and motivation. However, although my motivation is still challenged, the aches and pains are gone, and Alyssa‘s variety of exercise programs have kept it entertaining for the past 4+ years since Covid. Working with Alyssa during Covid and since really kept me in shape and I’m very grateful that I stayed with it. Worth every penny.

I suffered from different health problems, and the only advice or help from doctors would be, "You gotta lose weight". This was discouraging to me, because I knew what I needed to do, but didnʻt know how to put myself into a healthy mindset. The mindset of losing weight caused me to restrict my foods, then binge, and go to extremes to lose weight, only for me to gain all the weight back, and then some. At first, I was afraid to join because I knew that I would put work and school before my health needs. However, working with Alyssa put me in a better mindset than just, "I need to lose weight." I learned that for me, my mindset is, "I want to be healthy and I want to feel good." I currently have steadily lost 25 lbs, and my blood work is improving every time I go in to my doctorʻs office. Working with PKKW has been so helpful at every stage of my pregnancy! In my first trimester I was almost always nauseous and fatigued, and I was concerned about losing momentum and not being able to exercise at all. PKKW worked with me to keep me active in a safe and sustainable way. Nutrition-wise, we worked on my protein intake, which is extremely important during pregnancy. I also developed a number of food aversions, and PKKW helped me find alternative foods to eat as well.

Now that I'm finishing my second trimester of pregnancy, PKKW has been helping me plan for the major changes that are coming for my muscles and joints. I am going into my third trimester armed with a baseline amount of strength that makes me feel optimistic for my postpartum recovery. I won't need to start from scratch with an exercise routine postpartum either, because I have already built this habit. Exercising consistently during my pregnancy has helped me fight some of the fatigue and kept my mood up, even with all my hormonal changes. No matter where you are in your pregnancy journey, I highly recommend working with PKKW so you can create a gameplan that works for you.

Before joining Pali Ke Kua Wellness, I wasn’t in the best shape. I was 60 years old and expecting to be a grandparent soon but felt like I wouldn’t be able to be the active grandma that I wanted to be. I knew that I needed to invest in my health to give myself many more productive years and I needed help to get to where I wanted to be. Not only has Pali Ke Kua Wellness helped me with my mobility and strength, but my coach has also put together a nutrition plan for me to follow that has helped to maintain the muscle mass that I’ve gained and has improved cholesterol and blood sugars. I thought that since I am a certified personal trainer and that I have a masters degree in kinesiology that I could help myself like I had did in my early 20s. I didn’t think I needed anyone else’s help, but I was wrong! 2. What was your biggest fitness/life problem you had before joining PKK? My work and coaching schedule demand a lot of time. I wasn’t making time to workout or making the best decisions in regards to my nutrition. I also had no one or nothing to keep me accountable. I was a bit concerned at first about online coaching but PKKW is amazing at this. When I needed to travel, she worked out creative but equally intense exercise routines using whatever was at hand, along with body weight exercises & calisthenics.
I like to geek out over nutrition and muscles and joints and tendons and I love that PKKW seems to know everything about all of this and has a whole body approach, making sure the smaller muscles and joints and bones get stronger and more flexible rather than just bulking up the big ones.
I look forward to the next 5 years of training, and can’t recommend PKKW enough for anyone who is interested in getting healthy and strong!

My hesitation was making the investment and being so incredibly time poor. Being a new business owner over the last 5 years, I have been in survival mode constantly and not prioritizing my health and self. I didn’t want to feel like it was one more thing I didn’t have time for in my very busy life.

My body was starting to hurt. I am on my feet all the time, have been since I was 15 but it became different when I put on excess weight. I started having severe foot and ankle pain. I started hiding my body in baggy clothes and not wanting to swim around others. I treated myself with food and it was not only hindering my weight gain but also worsening my digestion issues. Sleep, fitness, nutrition and overall confidence was in the gutter and I was desperate to get a handle on my well-being.

With Pali ke Kua wellness, I have gained confidence in the gym knowing what I am doing before I walk in. I’ve already improved strength which makes me excited to go back to the gym and work even harder. Before PKKW, my body ached all the time. The first thing I felt in the morning was my SI joints. I would be afraid to go on walks. I would be afraid to do anything particularly physical because it hurt so much. My biggest fear when committing to coaching with PKKW, was that I would continue to hurt myself, because the simple things like picking things up off the ground hurt so bad. Now after 8 weeks of training, I wake up with no back pain for the first time ever. For 90% of the past 10 years, my brain is conditioned to feel the pain in my hips and back. Now I can wake up and not feel pain. My capabilities have expanded so much more because I’ve gotten so much stronger. My only fitness goals before were to not wake up in pain and now it’s to get my first push-up or maybe a pull-up one day. More...
