I can't count how many times my chum and I looked around this restaurant in total confusion. Allendale Corner looks like a diner that decided within the last week that it wanted to be something else. They have the luncheonette counter and stool setup that you associate with coffee, eggs, bacon and other standard American diner breakfast staples, but there's a makeshift banner outside proclaiming it's a Mediterranean restaurant, and the menu is heavily influenced that way as well (the aforementioned breakfast staples are there, but I'd say more as a supporting character). Also hinting at an odd transition - there was a collection of four or five hookahs just hanging out on the side of the counter. Were they there as part of a random decorating scheme? Did the restaurant intend to circulate them amongst the customers later in the day? Unclear. We stopped by for brunch on a nippy Saturday morning. True to its name, it's right on the corner of a quiet small town roundabout that I assume is much busier during the week, especially since it's a block away from the train station. They don't have a foyer or partition to separate the customers from the door outside, so it was still a little chilly at our table, despite being seated well into the restaurant - we kept our coats on throughout the meal.I ordered the Deluxe Allendale Platter, which was comprised of two eggs (scrambled), white toast, home fries and turkey sausage. It was just okay; the sausage and eggs were average and the toast in my opinion was overdone and a little tough to bite into. They also didn't come with butter, and we had to hail down the waitress to get some onto our table. The real star though was the home fries, very nicely seasoned with a Cajon flavoring. Definitely the best item I had here. My chum had a cheesesteak wrap (also fine), with a side of fries that looked perfectly crispy. She was a fan of the fries, so apparently this place's wheelhouse is the almighty potato. The service was okay (seeing a theme?). Our waitress was pretty solid and prompt in terms of obtaining our orders and stopping by to check on us, but it took a little longer than it should have for the food to arrive. Nothing we ordered was insanely complex, but I'd say it took about 35 minutes for the entrees to arrive. Not a big deal, but if you're coming here on a schedule, I'd take that under advisement. From my vantagepoint, it looked like the restaurant may have gotten quasi-slammed with takeout orders that would explain that, but I think a more experienced waitress would have apologized for and explained the wait and/or tried to expedite the orders with the kitchen. I got the impression that this was very much a family operation, with the waitress possibly the teenage daughter of the owner/guy in the kitchen, so the dynamic may have made that awkward. She was very nice though, and I certainly didn't think any of that was a dealbreaker. The bathroom could definitely use some spiffing up - you shouldn't notice cleaning supplies before you notice any of the decorating schemes in there. Also as an aside, there's a weird sign on the inside of the door that I think was an awkward attempt at humor - one of those disclaimers not to flush the unflushable, but ended with a phrase like, "if you didn't eat it, it shouldn't be in the toilet bowl." Ew. Neither of us tried the Mediterranean food, so it's entirely possible that we missed out on their biggest selling point. Even having not eaten it, I'd recommend trying that before the American diner food - there are a lot of places in the vicinities that have better options in that regard. More...

We found this spot in the Spring and loved it.  HOWEVER when we came back this weekend for a late breakfast, early lunch we found that the Cafe is no longer for us. We ordered, we waited about 30 minutes for eggs and hash and a chicken pannini that never arrived.   When we asked where my food was, the young girl said she would put a rush on it....all while my husband's eggs got cold.   Waiting a few more minutes,  I went up to the counter to see if my food was almost ready, only to find out that they hadn't even started making it.  I politely told another young girl that if it wasn't started to just cancel the order.  Only to watch a women, I assumed an owner berate both of these young girls in front of all 9 people in the Cafe.  It's not your fault I told her, she answered with everything is their fault. Two tables had their bills mixed up and the "owner" was unable to correct the error, as one couple's card had been run.  The "owner" continued to blame the young girls.  After at least 10 minutes, both parties had to figure out the money between themselves, exchanging cash for the difference. "This place used to be good" one of them told me."  The couple said they would never be back. After telling the young waitress that she should find another job and to never let anyone speak to her that way, the owner now comes over.  So I tell her she shouldn't speak to her staff that way and that the customers certainly don't need to hear her, we left.  On my way out, I mentioned that the food we did get was not good.  My husband ate one egg and a piece of toast.  He said the cornbeef hash was little more than potatoes.  Did I mention that the bill for two eggs, hash and toast along with coffee and tea was $17.05?   And even after never getting my order, the owner never apologized.  She didn't say a word to me, just continued  to berated her staff.  We left a good tip but we will NEVER go back.  That young girl's face as she tried not to cry will be with me for awhile.  I hope they both quit.  Actions have consequences even if you are the boss. What an excellent find! The new owners, who took over this past summer, have turned dinner at the corner cafe into a superb Mediterranean restaurant. We were looking for a less heavy meal after days of Thanksgiving feeding at the trough and figured Mediterranean cuisine was the way to go. We didn't know about this place, and the other nearby restaurants are either mediocre or ridiculously over priced. We started with an order of the kibbeh. They were delicious. Perfectly spiced. My wife had the chicken schwarma platter and I had the gyro platter. Both were excellent. I was pleased that the gyro was not over salty. The portion sizes were good.Service, from the owner, was attentive and he is extremely friendly. I hope to see more people going here (although the emptiness during Covid was a plus, I hope to see the place stay around!) More...

This place is apparently typical breakfast place but for dinner the menu shifts to a Lebanese menu. We were the only ones there when we dined, but they were doing a brisk take out business from various delivery services. Everyone was friendly and concerned that we enjoy our meal. We started off with some dips (provided gratis) and some delicious falafel. So much food! And then we had gyro and moussaka. Portions are enormous and we enjoyed our meals. I've seen comments about the state of cleanliness, but this was absolutely NOT an issue for us at dinner. There's a a lot of appetizers on the menu that are items I love so I look forward to going back and having an all appetizer meal. I know it will be delicious! More...

I hate to say it but I don't think I can order from here anymore. Food is good and that's why I've come back. My delivery orders have been messed up a few times now. If they can't fulfill your order then they will replace it with something else but you won't know until the food arrives to your house. I've asked them to please let me know in advance but they can't seem to do it. Got the wrong delivery again tonight. Called in and they told me they'd call me back in 10 mins. I called them back 20 minutes later and they were annoyed with me. I think there's a disconnect with their online order system. I'll deal with crappy service all day long if the food is good, especially for a local business, but I think I'm done here. More...

Decided to try this place after running some errands. We got the burger, the chicken shawarma platter, and a gyro wrap. Food came pretty fast, and portions were pretty sizable. I wasn't expecting much from the chicken shawarma, but it was probably one of the tastiest, and well executed shawarma platters I have ever had. It comes with a super tasty hummus, a nice and fresh lettuce tomato and onion salad, and two big portions of chicken. Could not recommend it more. Legit Mediterranean food.  They really need to change the name of the business now bc it's not diner food.  This is just what I ordered today, but I'll be adding them into my takeout rotation.  Dolma (stuffed grape leaves) - def made in house.  You can tell.  The slight vinegary sauce adds a nice brightness. Shephard salad - fresh and finely diced.  Heavy on the parsley which I really liked.  I always like asking for feta and liked how they added a fine crumble.  Garlic shrimp main - nice portion of cinnamon scented rice with garlicky shrimp.  Mixed house grill - sampling of the kebab, lamb, chicken and shawarma.  Tasty.   Got take out so the mains werent too temp hot but it was still very good.  Good sign.  I'm sure it would be excellent if we ate in the dining room.  They badly need a basic website to explain what kind of restaurant they are and have the menu. My wife and I used to come to this place when it was Allendale Eats, but since they closed we stopped coming to the area. We were driving by and saw another place instead of it so we stopped by for a quick brunch . My wife ordered salmon benedict which was cold and hollandaise was separated. It also had a ton of onions in it. I ordered shakshuka which was not too bad. It had too many onions and had no spice at all and this dish should be spicy. The eggs where perfectly poached though. Cappuccino was by far the worst I had ever tasted. It had like 100 grams of sugar and did not taste like cappuccino at all. The hash was very good and I think it was the best part of the meal. The waitress was friendly, but look like she did not want to be there at all. The owner/manager (not sure) walked around helping at the tables did not wear mask or gloves and did not use anything but a wet rag to clean tables. More...

We used to frequent this small restaurant before pandemics. We did not realize it is under new management until we came in, but we're very willing to explore. 1. Service is very scattered, you are not seated and have to grab a table by yourself. Server took our orders for drinks and came back some time later saying that she forgot what was ordered. I had to send cappuccino back bc it was coingly sweet, no apology. No one checked if food was ok and we just got up and payed inside and left.2. Food. Used to be old diner feel with very well prepared simple food. Current menu has some of the same items, slightly geared towards Mediterranean. We ordered shakshuka and salmon Benedict. Shakshuka had too much cheese and was not spicy at all. Hollandaise on eggs was cold and separated, eggs were runny, but barely warm. There was a very thick slice of red onion, which overtook everything. I ordered cappuccino and it was extremely sugary and was quite unpleasant.Thank you. Won't be coming back anytime soon. More...

Everything seemed fresh. Service was friendly but needed some sharpening up. We had to ask to have our wine bottle opened, so they  handled us a corkscrew. We shared four entrees, but they gave us no small plates to share the food. We had to use our napkins as plates. It wasn't intentional; it seemed like they weren't aware as to how it should be done. Later on, a nice woman who may be the owner and chef came over and provided more attentive service.  She was eager to please.
