How many times have you been to physical therapy where you sign in, pay your ever-increasing copay, spend 15-20 minutes with a PT, followed by another 20 minutes of exercises with a rehab aide and maybe finish with ice or heat? This happens all too often in our current system, and insurance companies are partly to blame. In today’s rehabilitation setting, insurance companies dictate how much our physical therapy services are worth. They determine how many PT visits you get per year regardless of what ailment you have and can arbitrarily decide not to cover certain PT visits even after you have received the treatment. With reimbursement rates decreasing, physical therapy clinics that accept insurance are forced to decrease treatment times so they can meet their bottom line, pay their staff and keep the lights on. Unfairly, this effects your treatment. This was one of the biggest reasons why we opened Functional Physical Therapy. We are considered to be out-of-network with most insurance companies, but as a result, we do not have to follow the same rules. We spend a minimum of sixty minutes with patients, allowing us to not only better understand what is happening in your body, but spend significant time treating what we find.

If you’re struggling with a particular ailment or just want to improve your overall physical and mental health, consider a holistic massage.

Holistic massages are massages that use natural methods and go beyond the physical symptoms. Holistic comes from ‘holos’, the Greek word for whole, and holistic therapies try to positively affect our whole bodies.

If you have any kind of malady, or if you just want to improve your overall physical and mental health, you should think about having a holistic massage. It will help you with anxiety, stress, sleep better, improve your muscle tension and boost your immune system.

Reiki, also known as energy healing, is an alternative therapy that evolved in Japan in the late 1800s. The basic gist is that the universal energy of the practitioner is transferred to the patient through the palms of the practitioner’s hands.

By focusing their healing energy on trouble spots on the patient’s body, our Reiki practitioner can speed healing, promote relaxation, and soothe tense muscles that may be holding memories of your physical or emotional pain.

As our Reiki master concentrates their healing energy to the clogged channels of the body, those channels are said to be cleared of negative energy, allowing positive energy to flow through once again.

Naturopathic medicine has long been seen as a holistic approach to treating illness and disorders of all kinds. Our Naturopathic physicians are devoted to helping their patients while minimizing the side effects of prescription drugs or surgery.

The most effective way to combat disease is to prevent it from developing in the first place, and that is one of the central aims of naturopathic medicine. Disease prevention is at the forefront of the field, and proper nutrition is simply one of the many ways to gain a healthy body and a healthy immune system. Naturopathic physicians use laboratory tests and other objective data in combination with the patient's subjective story to determine the most effective treatment. A naturopathic physician is like a tailor, trying to find the best fit for the patient. This is a genuine practice of medicine, requiring trial and error, along with patience and good communication. This process culminates in an individually tailored treatment plan that actively engages the patient in his or her health. The treatment will vary depending upon the expertise of the physician, but ample time is afforded at the end of the visit to discuss the plan and answer any questions.

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for thousands of years as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been known to treat a range of health conditions, in fact there are over 40 different conditions and symptoms that are treated effectively by acupuncture, including rheumatoid arthritis, nausea, TMJ, headache, menstrual pain, and lower back pain. Based on scientific evidence, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) also recommends acupuncture as a treatment for chronic lower back pain, chronic tension headaches and migraines.

However, the most important benefit of acupuncture is to support your body's healing ability and restore the balance of physical, psychological and spiritual wellbeing of each individual. Traditional Acupuncture is a holistic therapy meaning rather than treating only the symptoms, it aims to treat the person as a whole by addressing the underlying imbalance and root causes of symptoms. You might not necessarily have specific health conditions, yet acupuncture can be beneficial for you as a preventive or therapeutic treatment to improve your overall wellbeing.

The ancient Indian medical system, also known as Ayurveda, is based on ancient writings that rely on a “natural” and holistic approach to physical and mental health. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest medical systems and remains one of India’s traditional health care systems. Ayurvedic treatment combines products (mainly derived from plants, but may also include animal, metal, and mineral), diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Ayurvedic medicine aims to prevent illness—rather than respond to disease—by maintaining a balance between your body, mind, and environment. Our intimate office space makes the session experience just so much more intimate, relaxing and worthwhile.

If you’re suffering from a chronic illness or simply want to understand the root cause of your health condition, consider visiting a functional doctor. Our Functional Practitioners provide a multi-disciplinary approach to treating and understanding your illness.

With specialized training and access to providers in a variety of disciplines, you receive care that looks at all aspects of your life, not just your medical history. Our functional doctor completes a more comprehensive treatment plan by looking at the following factors.

Lifestyle: A look inside your diet, activity level, work life, hobbies and stressors.

Genetics: A look at your family's physical and mental health histories.

Environment: A look at the toxins and allergens that may be present in your everyday life.

Come prepared to answer in-depth questions about how you complete your daily activities, common stressors in your life, or how your diet impacts your mood.

You may not undergo hypnosis during your first visit with a hypnotist or hypnotherapist. Instead, the two of you may talk about the goals you have and the process they can use to help you.

In a hypnosis session, your therapist will help you relax in a comfortable setting. They’ll explain the process and review your goals for the session. Then, they’ll use repetitive verbal cues to guide you into the trance-like state.

Once you’re in a receptive trance-like state, your therapist will suggest you work to achieve certain goals, help you visualize your future, and guide you toward making healthier decisions.

Afterward, your therapist will end your trance-like state by bringing you back to full consciousness.

Although one session can be helpful for some people, most therapists will tell you to begin hypnosis therapy with four to five sessions. After that phase, you can discuss how many more sessions are needed. You can also talk about whether any maintenance sessions are needed as well.

For many people with a severe or chronic medical condition, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an effective, sustainable treatment.

While HBOT may seem like a relatively new treatment, celebrities and athletes have been utilizing and promoting HBOT for years. For years, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been associated with the treatment of decompression sickness, also known as ‘the bends’. This condition strikes deep-sea divers who surface too quickly and don’t allow adequate time for the compressed air trapped in their joints to expand and safely re-enter the bloodstream.

Since its initial usage treating divers, HBOT has been tested and expanded as a treatment option for a wide variety of medical ailments.

FDA has approved HBOT treatment for 13 conditions including non-healing wounds, stroke, carbon monoxide poisoning, burns, and ischemia, amongst many others.

Medical research suggests that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is also a powerful neurotherapeutic treatment for brain repair and can help patients suffering from autism, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Alzheimer’s disease, and many other neurological disabilities.
