A well deserved 5 star rating! I came in with really long curly hair and was super anxious because I’ve never had any luck with a stylist knew how to work with my hair type. I am half Persian, half black and have a relatively tight curl pattern. I brought in a reference photo of exactly what I wanted, and Emilio did not hesitate to execute. I usually go to the royal oak Alex Emilio salon, but was going to be in the Birmingham area so I decided to come in and try the other location. I had my hair colored by Renee, who did a great job with my thick Asian hair. The back combing process involved was a little uncomfortable, but it went pretty fast. You get the same little perks (wine when you come in, etc) as at the other location. The whole appointment took about 2 hours, and I was happy with the results! The only thing I wished was a little more time spent on the cut portion of the appointment. Hey! My name is Bryce and I’m using my mom’s Facebook to write a review because this place went above and beyond. Steven cut my hair and has been working with Alex and Emilio for a decade. Not only did he help me understand how to manage my curly hair, he was extremely informative and knowledgeable about current trends and styles and helped me leave with a haircut that I loved. This salon literally saved my hair.  It was long, stringy, lifeless when I started going here.  With time, patience... following advice and using the right products I have my old confidence back.  It gets better with every visit.  Every stylist in this place is excellent.  I cannot say enough good things.  They do not pressure you into buying products but make the best recommendations.  I appreciate that.  I trusted them enough to cut off 9 inches of hair.  Usually that would be a nightmare.  But for me it's the best thing that ever happened, a risk I don't think I could have taken without their care and guidance.Very professional and always accommodating.  Genuinely friendly and kind... everyone from the stylists to the assistants to the receptionists.  A rarity honestly- I salon-shopped quite a bit before landing here and it means a lot to me.  Even though they are tucked into a posh section of Birmingham they are very unpretentious and prices are reasonable.  Best salon I've ever been to and I've lived everywhere including Manhattan. No words could possibly explain how much I love Valentina. I've gone to several stylists and nobody holds a flame to her! My color is always perfect, my cut is always exactly what I ask for, and she never tries to up-sell me on products or services (but always recommends the best stuff when I ask !) I met Valentina just over a year ago when another stylist (not from AE) destroyed my hair, and now she's stuck with me forever. 10/10 would DEFINITELY recommend! More...

Jessica Johnson is a god-sent. She takes meticulous care with my hair. Every cut, every color, every time. She listens to what I want and helps lead me in a realistic direction. She is a master at color and her cuts never fall short. I have not gone to anyone else in almost 6 years (including a period I lived out of state) (she's worth it) and will never. I would trust anyone here with my hair. Originally I was in Royal Oak but now I am in Birmingham.Great salon, wonderful atmosphere, and by far the best staff. I am some who never really got an actual haircut done in like ages, the only thing I used to get done was getting my hair trimmed or maybe a little bangs on the front, but now that I got one, I am just loving it. Ashley, my hair dresser was confident and she was ready to take a risk. But everything worked out great. Love Alex Emilio Salon. They can send you texts to remind and confirm appointments. They offer wine, water and other stuff while you wait or while your getting hair done. Always busy. Specifically Brandon does hair color (like my pink hair) and does an amazing job and I recommend him to anyone who wants vibrant fun colors. Please note that the service and hair is top notch so you will be paying for that! (It's not cheap but worth it). They also do weddings and they did a great job on mine as well.
