We arrived right on time for our 7pm reservation and although the house was PACKED, were wisked right off to our nice table without delay-VERY efficient. The three course menu offered options for everyone in our party-each course was delicately and thoughtfully prepared. The only problem experienced was that the were out off my life drink (Campari); the bar tender offered a replacement, which I tried, not bad and I relented.  To my surprise, I was charged for it.  They were also out of the fish meal; however, the replacement fish was good, so not complaint here.  Wish I could give it a 4.5 star. Thanks to winning a gift card to this place from a rose crawl I got the pleasure of dining here with $25 dollars on the house. And I am so glad I found this place. So first off it's very posh and a dim lit with minimal decor type place. Definitely not for kids or if you are really dressed down. Like a no sneaker place. But I liked it. Made it feel upscale and intimate. Had the oysters and they were amazing. The crab cake sandwich with salad was perfect and not to much food or too little and the crab cake was just pure crab. It was amazing. Very good bartender. I plan to come back on a Tuesday because they apparently have 1/2 bottle of wine and $25 three course meal menus. All in all another Richmond gem More...

This visit at Acacia wasn't as great as the last unfortunately! Our server didn't seem too thrilled to be serving us, maybe because of our age? The wife and I went here for a Valentines Day pre-fix meal and left very very happy. I ordered the Duck Confit, the winter salad, and the chocolate cremeux and everything (especially the duck and cremeux) was just outstanding. Truly couldn't have asked for better food and service. The music that permeated the room was a little off however. It was some sort of chill electronica club music - I just kept thinking if they changed the music and maybe the lighting inside that it could have been a perfect experience. Came here on a Saturday for the prix-fixe menu and left full and happy!Pros: the set menu is a bargain for the quality dining experience. The service was incredibly attentive and we felt very taken care of by the entire staff.  The pre-meal bread was served warm, and I don't know what was in the butter, but it was to-die for. I had the red pepper soup, which was rich and creamy, but I didn't care for the aftertaste. For an entree, I had the scallops which were deliciously light and buttery and the gnocchi balanced out the dish with heavier, flavorful substance. For dessert, I had the lemon olive oil cake which was my favorite part of the meal - not overly sweet and the strawberries were fresh and tart. Cons: the vibe was a little too Euro-club chic for my personal taste. I found the music a bit distracting. We were seated near the bar and as they got busier a lot of people began to crowd this shared space. It was just a bit awkward and loud, made it difficult to talk and hear one another, and didn't quite feel like the intimate date we initially expected. I'm sure this would not be an issue in the dining room proper! More...

We've been trying to get here for months and haven't been able to make reservations work, so we tried on a Tuesday and had no trouble. Good night to go since it was half off bottles of wine night! Atmosphere is lovely and you get treated to a quality dining experience. I'd highly recommend the Prix Fixe menu as you get more food at a reasonable price ($25/person). Their options are the same (although limited) to what's on the menu and you get 3 courses. Dinner is fancy and delicious! Usually the alcohol specials at any place are my favorite, but since I'm not currently drinking, the highlight was the mocktails on the menu!!! Two options that created a craft cocktail experience without the booze! The bartender (Kenny) was fantastic! He had a great rapport with the patrons and seemed to know all the regulars by name and even type of bourbon. The food was cooked perfectly and there was ample variety of options from pasta, fish, and steak. My parents and I went to Acacia for restaurant week because I've been dying to try their crab cakes. Originally we made a reservation for two thinking my dad would be out of town but when we found out he'd be available I tried calling multiple times to get him added to the reservation. Every time their phone went to an automatic recording followed by a voicemail which was slightly frustrating but they ultimately called 5 minutes prior to our reservation and were able to seat us at the "community table" which made for a fine but not ideal dining experience. For the first course we got two butternut squash ravioli and one shrimp bisque. The ravioli was incredible. The brussel sprouts were crisp and the ravioli perfectly cooked. The mushrooms were beautifully marinated and I ate all of them despite not loving mushrooms in general. The shrimp bisque on the other hand was not good. The waitress stated they toast the shrimp prior to making it which led in our opinions to an unsatisfying fishy flavor. It was also served luke warm. For the entree we got two crab cakes and the rockfish. Don't get me wrong, we were here for the crab cakes and they were good, lots of meat and minimal filler but the rockfish was one of the best dishes I've had in awhile. It came with a cauliflower purée that dreams are made out of and wonderful sautéed veggies. Seriously this puree was silky rich goodness. When I go back, it's going to be for the fish. For dessert we did two apple cobblers and the chocolate semifreddo. Both were okay. Nothing to rave over. All in all Acacia was a good experience and cool ambiance. They also have valet which is much needed for the Carytown area. Definitely adding it to my list for a recommended seafood meal. More...

My family and I went to Acacia for their prix fixe menu (three courses for $25). As the prix fixe menu is only offered for limited hours on Friday, we decided to go early. The prix fixe included the choice of a soup or salad, an entrée, and a dessert. I selected the zucchini soup, crab cakes, and the chocolate crémeux. The zucchini soup arrived shortly after placing our order. The description of the soup on the menu simply did not do it justice; the soup was lush and creamy, with bits of perfectly cooked zucchini (not soggy as I feared they would be). I also tried some of my grandmother's crispy shrimp salad and that was very tasty as well and had an ample portion of shrimp. For our main courses, my grandmother and I ordered the crab cakes and my boyfriend ordered the schnitzel. The crab cakes were some of the best I have ever had and were all crab with little to no filler, but lots of flavor. The schnitzel was also superb and definitely as good as the schnitzel that I've had in Austria and Germany. The desserts were also very good. All in all, Acacia's food and service were impeccable. 5-star food. 1-star service. My husband and I visited family in Richmond this past week, and they have eaten at Acacia several times. We had made a reservation for 6 people at 8:30 on a Monday evening. We arrived on time with 4 of the 6 people, and were asked to wait at the bar even though the restaurant was mostly empty and our table was set already. My mother is 85, and her standing and waiting when our table was ready didn't make sense. I said to the hostess that the majority of our party was here and that we'd like to be seated right away. The beginning of the downhill slide into customer service weird: I received an eye-roll accompanied by a moue of distaste and then a very audible "pfffft". Then "Fine" as the hostess sat us at our table. We found out after we were seated that we were having a 7th guest, who was a boy. We had another boy with us, and the 2 together (who are both accustomed to fine dining) could have easily sat side-by-side at the end of the table... but NO! Horrors! We can absolutely not add a chair! A production was made of adding a 4-top to our table, rearranging the furniture unnecessarily, and then snidely from one of the staff: "this is why we don't seat parties unless everyone is here". We sit, have cocktails, peruse the menu (which was only prix-fixe), and the haughty server informs us that the kitchen closes at 9:00 and we needed to order everything NOW. It was about 8:45. Now, if someone makes a reservation for 8:30 and the kitchen closes at 9:00, wouldn't you mention that on the phone when the reservation is made? Perhaps have the hostess let us know upon seating? Nope. The food was absolutely terrific. Accolades to everyone in the kitchen, but the service got even weirder. My mother is medically gluten-free, and asked if the (was it flounder?) fish entrée with the gnocchi could be made without the gnocchi. No, nope. The haughty server said that the gnocchi was "the main part of the dish" and wouldn't let her order it. One of us had the dish, and the gnocchi was definitely secondary. Then, upon ordering a glass of prosecco, I got some story about vineyard real estate values in the Veneto. Between the entrée and dessert the boys started acting like boys, and their behavior (table drumming) normally would have been immediately quashed. Since there were only 2 other tables seated, and the kitchen was closed, we decided to let them go a bit longer than perhaps is proper. We figured that we were already "that table" so we couldn't feel any less welcome. Perhaps because the meal was prix-fixe (and crazily inexpensive for the excellent quality of the food) and the servers were making much less than they would al-a-carte that they were grumpy to begin with? It really shouldn't matter. 2 nights later we (the same group) ate at Rappahannock, where we were welcomed with big smiles and had an equally fabulous meal. Go there instead.P.S. The bartender needs to know that an Old fashioned is not a Whisky Sour More...
