Abbey's was good, but maybe not great. We had high expectations going in after hearing how good it was on a podcast, and we ordered every appetizer they had to give it a shot. The food was good for sure, but it wasn't hot by the time we brought it home (10 min drive, so not their fault). They didn't really have any dipping sauces, and nothing was super incredible. I do recommend because of the fun atmosphere though More...

I came across Abbey's bbq on yelp and first tried it on Mother's Day with their plate specials because my mom was craving bbq. We first tried their brisket and it was sooo good we had to get it again on her birthday. This time we ordered the family package 2 which comes with a whole chicken, 1 lb of brisket or pork, 2 pint sides and cornbread or garlic buns and cookies. I called ahead and it was ready within 15-20 min. The staff is also friendly. The brisket is so tender and the cuts are thick. The bbq sauce is nicely balanced and not too overpowering. The chicken was also good. We got potato salad and beans for the sides which were nicely done. And finally the cornbread which was the best cornbread I've had. Not too dry, buttery, with a little sweetness. The family meal is a really good bang for your buck. Abbey's is the new go to bbq spot. I definitely recommend More...

Finally tried this place after it being recommended for I don't know how long. First time I tried the brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad. The brisket was amazing, the bun was so soft, and the potato salad was out of this world. Due to the virus there is a higher charge for brisket due to demand so if you really want it be prepared to pay $3 extra but it is worth and it's a very generous portion. Came in a few days after to try the pulled pork sandwich and that was also delicious! They have lunch specials on their sandwiches if you want just a sandwich no sides. One sandwich is plenty of food, very very generous on the meat. And great service! Super friendly employees! Will definitely be back/ be my go to lunch place More...

This is the best BBQ I've had in Southern California. I've been to Texas and this place reminds of the real Texas BBQ. You have to try the brisket along with all the other items on his menu. I went there for the first time a month ago and me and my friends loved it. I noticed a review by PB. That was a very racial review. The staff was super friendly. It seems like you were disappointed that it wasn't blonde hair and blue eyed people that helped you. And to say descendants of cousins getting married is very uncalled for. Maybe you should go move to texas so that way you won't have to worry about people with black hair and brown eyes helping you're unappreciative racist ass. More...

Stumbled across this place on social media, so I thought I give them a try because who doesn't love BBQ. Called in for a family package ahead of time and when I arrived it took about ten minutes from them to prep the meal. I appreciate how they have markers on the ground, so that you are practicing social distancing. They also give military discounts which is nice. Couple of things I did not like was the BBQ sauce was already poured on top of the meat (we ordered the chicken and brisket), not a huge deal but I prefer to have the sauce on the side. The other thing was  the chicken, while it was moist it was missing some flavor and that is where the sauce definitely came into play. We also did not get the cookies that are listed as part of the meal.Overall the crew were friendly and nice and I would love to come back once everything starts to return to normalcy. More...

We are huge BBQ fans and when we moved to SD from the East Coast 12 years ago we were a little worried about our BBQ prospects.  After a little research we found Abbey's and have been primarily eating their food since.  We eat in but also get the food to go and it's consistently excellent.  I took a colleague there for a business lunch and he was gloriously surprised so clearly it's a bit of a secret in town.  The lunch specials are reasonable and so good. We recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary during this SIP period and we immediately agreed to get Abbey's takeout for our family dinner.  Our favorites are the baby back ribs and brisket so we did Family Package #4 that has lots of those things along with chicken and sausage.  Love their coleslaw, potato salad and seasoned rice.  for sides.  This time around they has cornbread and it was perfect the way I like it (moist, sweet, savory).  We also got the pulled chicken for the first time as a platter special and it was perfectly cooked.  We are happy to support Abbey's and will order from them again without hesitation. Stumbled across this BBQ joint on Instagram and I'm thankful that I did! I was able to recommend them to a nursing friend of mine so that she could take advantage of the great Health Care Workers deal they have going on! A free sandwich to show their appreciation for all they are doing this crisis. Well, she thoroughly enjoyed it and I was able to go check it out with her the following week. I was blown away by the customer service! They were unfortunately out of brisket due to the meat shortage, but Mark was more than accommodating to provide the best possible experience given what he had. He hooked it up with a chicken & sausage sandwich and threw in some ribs on top of that! The sides were baked beans, potato salad, fried okra, and cornbread. They pretty much knocked it out of the park with the quality and taste of each! I will definitely be going back to support them and will hopefully be able to try their brisket this go around. Also, I wanted to thank them again for how they are supporting the Health Care workers during this pandemic so make sure to go grab your free sandwich if you're in the industry! #thankyouthursday More...

Wow!!!! Thank you SO much for the generosity! First of all their brisket is DELICIOUS! Perfect balance of crispy and tender. I'm a coleslaw girl, and it wasn't too soggy or tangy, my kind of slaw. Their cornbread is basically dessert, do it! I've been back twice, and had their sausage, chicken sandwiches, ribs, beans and okra. No matter what meat you get, you can't go wrong! Their beans had spice rather than the sweetness in used to. Okra was good. Sauces...one spicy and one not as spicy...both balanced and smooth (not tangy or sweet). Great business!! Abbey's Real Texas BBQ was my meal of choice last night for "Yelp's Big Night In" event during this COVID-19 Pandemic. I was craving BBQ ribs and I was originally going to order from Dickey's BBQ however they had ran out of ribs so I searched my trusty Yelp app for the next closest BBQ joint and I stumbled across Abbey's. I placed my order online and it was ready for me as soon as I arrived. My roommate and I each ordered a Half Rack of Baby Back Ribs Platter $19.99 which comes with two sides and buns. I got mine with BBQ beans and Onion Rings. The BBQ Ribs were pretty good, nice and tender. The sauce wasn't bad. I wish they did have a honey BBQ option though. It's still pretty good. I've never had hamburger buns served with ribs before so I didn't know if you were supposed to make a sandwich out of it? I still haven't touched the bread. The beans are flavorful, it has the same sauce as the ribs. The beans are more soupy, it reminds me a lot of chili. The food was definitely filling and I barely even finished half of my food. I still have the rest in my fridge and I'm excited to eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow!I'm glad to have tried out a new local business. Come try out their BBQ if you're in the Miramar area! Came here twice and had a great experience both times! There's a BOGO platter deal on Facebook and we wouldn't have discovered this restaurant if it weren't for that. I'm not normally a big fan of Texas BBQ. I don't enjoy it as much as saucier versions so I don't go out of my way to eat it. But Abbey's is an exception. The food is delicious and customer service is on point. Despite having so many reviews, it wasn't really busy when we visited during prime dinner time. It shares a parking lot with Denny's but there were plenty of parking spots. Beef Brisket with 2 sides platter: super tender brisket with a good mix of fatty and lean pieces. It came with about two long slices. With the two sides, this was big enough to last me two meals. For the two sides, I chose salad and onion rings. There's an option for either cornbread or garlic bread (which ended up being garlic butter on some burger buns). The cornbread was definitely the right choice for me but I can see how some people would like to make a brisket burger with the garlic buns. During my second visit, the cashier actually recognized me from visiting two weeks ago. The workers prepping our meals also gave us some free burnt ends. We were unsure if we should bus our own table but the cashier came and said we could just leave it at the table. Definitely will be back! The platters are a bit pricey so not something I'd come regularly. But there are lunch specials that I would be interested in checking out someday. More...

This is the real deal for homesick Texans. The brisket can definitely keep up with some of the places you would find in Texas. We both ordered the brisket sandwich with sides and the kielbasa starter. The sides we selected were potato salad, coleslaw and BBQ beans. A pleasant surprise was the free chips and salsa cart while we waited for our meal. Self serve pickles and jalapenos too! I loved the interior also. Lots of Texas decor, wood floors, and red gingham table cloths. They have a dine in happy hour with $1 off Coors and 50% off starters (which includes the kielbasa!). The brisket portion on our sandwiches was definitely satisfying. I love that they include some burnt ends mixed in also. The achieve the blackened exterior of true Texas brisket, and for that I'm grateful! BBQ sauce on the side is the way to go to get the authentic meat flavor first. The potato salad and BBQ beans were delicious also! Service was great. Everything was clean and food brought to our table in a timely manner. Wasn't too busy on a Sunday evening, but a steady flow of people. At the end of our meal, we had a courtesy visit from the owner's family member! What a nice southern touch! We will definitely come back. More...

We came after receiving a BOGO Platter deal, and we were honestly especially interested in trying out this place since they had brisket on their menu! Abbey's is a bit hidden away on Miramar inside one of the many plazas that line the busy street. We were surprised at how much smaller the restaurant actually was since we were used to much bigger BBQ joints. There's plenty of parking, and definitely wasn't as busy as your more popular restaurants. There's a Chip & Salsa cart with their special BBQ salsa which I LOVED. You can taste the Salsa and you can taste the BBQ - a bit of a kick in the sauce, it was perfect for me. They also have a unique variety of special sodas if you happen to buy a drink! (Yelp Check-In had a free soda when we went!)Beef Brisket & 2 Sides Platter ($21.99): Fairly good portion size for the meat, and it was definitely very tender Brisket! They also didn't douse it in BBQ sauce which I appreciated - they have their Spicy BBQ available for sauce lovers on their Chip & Salsa cart. My boyfriend got Fried Okra and Onion Rings for his sides, and they also let you choose between Cornbread or Garlic Buns. The Fried Okra was delicious and so were the Onion Rings. Both were fried perfectly and weren't oily at all. He chose the Garlic Buns....they're literally just hamburger buns with butter and garlic on them. Unfortunately, ours weren't garlic-y at all, so I guess we just got Buttered Buns!Half-Slab Baby Back Pork Ribs & 2 Sides Platter ($19.99): I've definitely had more tender ribs than the ones here - the meat didn't fall off the bone and at times it was difficult to chew off.... but the sauce was still yummy! I got Fries and Mac Salad for my sides....again, I think I've had better elsewhere. The Fries weren't seasoned much and were not crispy at all. The Mac Salad was also lacking in flavor, nothing special. I got the Cornbread and that was surprisingly good, and helped end my meal on a sweet note.Staff was very friendly and attentive. I definitely think the food was worth with the BOGO deal we got, but I would probably only come back if I was craving Brisket. More...
