Suggs Kennels is the absolute best company to work for. Robert Suggs, the owner, second generation, truly cares about his employees. I have been part of the Suggs family for about a year and a half now. I don’t dread coming to work, I’m actually excited to wake up and help take care of pets. So very pleased to find this gem of a place in Augusta. I was in a pinch because our vet boarding got quarantined due to kennel cough. I googled "Dog Kennels near me" and Suggs got high reviews. I went to see it... they have the most professional boarding & grooming facility set up in separate buildings & outdoor kennels on their property in a residential area. The owner is friendly, open (offered to let me see kennels... very clean) and highly professional. They have been in business over 50 years and take animals of all sorts... they seem to have a kind warm spot in their hearts for them.On pick-up, I had a car snafu (car locked w/ key fob inside) and owner drove me home to pick up my spare fob. We're so, so thankful for Suggs Kennel and especially Mark and Robert for going way above and beyond any of our expectations in helping us on our way from Beaufort, SC to their facility and taking such exceptional care of our two cats during our evacuation from Dorian. We had to evacuate from Charleston and came to Augusta to stay with friends. We boarded our dog Larry while we were in Augusta for a few nights. The staff was really nice, the facility was very clean, and every time I called to check on Larry they were very complimentary and made me feel comfortable leaving him there in their care. You can teach a old dog a new trick…or should I say, how to walk without dragging me! My Niko is ten years old and he will be eleven in two months. Never had any dog training. He is a great dog, doesn’t jump, not aggressive but he worried about other dogs. When I would took him for walks, he pulls so hard that I was wore out by the end of the walk. I went to Louis to help me with just that. Within the first lesson we could see the difference in Niko. Each lesson he became better. Louis, taught me how to work daily with Niko to help guide him to following my lead. Working over the past ten weeks, Niko is able to walk right beside me with out pulling. He follows my lead, he doesn’t worry about other animals, and he sits at my command. Our walks are so much more enjoyable, thank you Louis for helping us. I have a standard poodle close to 10 months of age. As a puppy, he has lots of energy and is curious about every person and inanimate objects that he encounters. To put it simply, he gets into everything!!! The first training that we attempted involved the use of a clicker and the use of treats as rewards for the dog. For some, this is a perfect method for obedience development. However, it did not work for my pet and I. So, I went to A Wonderdog Ltd. and met Louis. His approach to training has made much more sense to me. My dog loves Louis and responds to his training methods. My relationship with my dog is much improved because of the teaching strategies incorporated into the Wonderdog Ltd., program. When I tell my dog to sit, he obeys. He follows directions and is fun to walk with because of the skills that Louis has taught us. The cost of the dog obedience training provided by Louis of A Wonderdog Ltd. is definitely worth the money. First, I can text Louis any day of the week if I have questions about the lesson that he has demonstrated in our previous obedience class; and, he will respond to my query. Second, training with Louis involves one-to-one instruction. There are not other people and animals around that can interfere with the learning process. We used Suggs Kennels for grooming of our Yorkie and miniature golden doodle. Not only was I able to drop them off so early on my way to work, but immediately felt at ease that they would be well cared for during their spa day. They both received summer cuts, and while it’s not my favorite “look” on them, the cuts were well done, and my fur babies weren’t in a heated panic to leave when I arrived to pick them up, as they have been at other groomers. Our 11 month old lab mix Tarzan is very smart and full of energy. Although I made every effort to socialize him and teach him basic commands, he was getting out of control. It is very frustrating when you give your best effort and still come up short again and again. On top of general disobedience, he started showing aggression. After an experience at the vet where he had to be muzzled, I knew we were in a dire situation. We would not be able to tolerate that behavior in our family. I found out about Louis from a friend and we could not be more grateful for what he has done! We have established leadership in our home. Our dog was paying attention and making his own good decisions within 15 min of our first lesson. It was an emotional experience for me. Can you imagine seeing a dog make a 180 in that short of time?! Louis’s techniques speak the language a dog can understand. My 5 year old lab was jumping on everyone who came to my home. I would have to confine her every time I had company and I hated doing it but had no choice. We had been to classes since she was a pup, but the training had not produced the results I desired. I was a frustrated owner. Then I met Louis and he began to explain his approach to training. On the recommendation of a friend I contacted Louis when I was at my wits end with my miniature poodle puppy. Who knew an 11 week old 5 lb poodle could be so commanding. We had only had Frieda 3 weeks and I felt like I had made the biggest mistake of my life. I was so torn. I loved her so much, but she was not reciprocating. Everyday I endured her biting me mercilessly. If I reprimanded her the behavior escalated. The only reprieve was when she was sleeping. After a really bad day of relentless biting, I called Louis. Frieda’s behavior had to change or were facing a heartbreaking decision. I am happy to report Frieda is 22 weeks old and still with us. And my wounds have healed! After meeting with Louis on 2 Saturdays for an hour I am no longer Frieda’s human chew bone. I highly recommend Louis. As an added bonus, I got to play frisbee with Louis’s dog. Our Tea is a loving and playful Boxer/American Bulldog mix. But Tea was a challenge. She lacked confidence and reacted to every stimulus to the point of being over-stimulated and unpredictable around people and animals. We feared it was just a matter of time before something bad happened. Walking her was work. For her and for us. She wasn’t enjoying herself and was always on edge. People told us “oh, it’s just the breed” or “she’ll grow out of it”. But at three years old, we saw no change. Then we found A Wonderdog Ltd. Louis has been nothing short of amazing! Tea is excited to see him. She gets excited when it’s time to train. She’s more confident and is respecting our lead. Louis has been working with both my husband and me. In one lesson, we had her performing heel and walking on the leash calmly, looking to us for cues. In two lessons, we had down follow the leader. I can open the front door wide and tell her to “wait” until I’m ready to go. And in lesson three we began sit & stay. It is incredible to see how quickly he is changing our behavior as master and Tea’s decision-making to follow our lead. Louis does all this in a whisper of a voice. He teaches you to be calm so your dog follows you. We have more to do to get her trained. But we can already say, if you’re thinking of becoming a dog owner or if you are one and you find yourself repeating commands or raising your voice, you MUST reach out to Louis. Louis does a fantastic job! I used him 12.5 years ago with my golden retriever Riley and now again with my 6 month old golden puppy Poppy. We have completed the basic training and she is like a new dog!! She is confident and walks perfectly on a leash.
