A Bite of Jersey Garden Grove, CA

Tucked away in an old dirt lot, where I thought only a liquor store lived, appeared a glowing "open" sign that caught my eye at the last minute.  It was lunch time, so maybe I was more alert to the signals of food.  I quickly swerve to the left turn lane and into the lot, park and go in.  Behind the counter was a man greeted me with a friendly smile.  After reviewing the HUGE menu with so many things on it, I settled on their specialty, Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.  I waited not even 10 minutes and a beautifully constructed sandwich appeared.  The smell alone would have drawn people in.  My taste buds exploded with every bite!  Then I tried the fries....heavenly perfect soft texture inside and crispy outside.  I didn't even need ranch dressing!  Two thumbs up guys!  Tip of the day:  invest a bigger sign above your actually shop.  Neon.  People need to know you are here! Very friendly staff!  I spoke with the manager and some of the other patrons while waiting for my food.  It was fun to learn the history of the shop and owners.  Great food as well!

Walked over here for lunch today for the 1st time as I am not from the area but was visiting family nearby. Pleasingly surprised that all the food we ordered was really good. Great place to get a legitimate philly cheesesteak. Im a Philly native, that being said- not the best cheesesteak I've had in my life but. I drive past A Bite of Jersey all the time. And for the life of me, I thought the sign read Bit of Jersey. What a great name for a T-shirt store, right? Then one day I saw a post on a neighborhood app about food. So my husband and I came by after our work out. We were there Thursday at 7pm. They close at 8pm on Thursdays. Plenty of parking in a delapitated lot. There is a florist next door. Good to know since Flowers by Cina closed. There were three guys sitting at a small raised counter watching some sports event on TV. They each have a glass of beer. And I see Guinness. My husband went to New Jersey every summer growing up. He really enjoyed pointing things out to me on the walls. He did find what he considers a small flaw, hence the loss of a star. There were sports memorabilia for  the Flyers, Phillies and eagles, but not the76ers. There are a few unusual menu offerings that I want to try. They have 4-5 types of fries with stuff on top. Called for a last minute lunch order of 20 sandwiches-- they Worked so fast to get my order completed on time. It was SO good, the whole office was stoked! We got a variety of hoagies- turkey, Italian, veggie, and roast beef and all were excellent. Friendly staff during pick up and looked like a great beer list. The employees and owner at A Bite of Jersey are top notch.  The food and specials are worth coming for everyday.  If your craving an authentic sandwich, English banger, an excellent burger or looking for a cold pint of beer Bite of Jersey is worth eating again and again.

This is well worth an update. I spoke to the owner about my 'salty' last experience. He was awesome. He took great care of the issue. I stopped in again a few years later and we talked and he did a great job. Even better than that I came in again and he remembered me and told the cook ' no salt'. This place is legit.  So far have ordered the meatball sandwich (Monday special) and cheesesteak sandwich.  Fries and beer.  But honestly... Just tasted like East Coast to me...  If you grew up near Philly, you'll get it.  One bite into the meatball sandwich and you'll be having flashbacks.  It's like they have some Jersey Italian grandma hidden in the kitchen or something.  Cheesesteak was spot on too.  If you grew up in CA, I fully understand you just might not get it.  (But then...you probably also wait in a 30 minute line for In 'n Out garbage...so there is that.)  But if East Coast is a little in your blood, then this place has serious nostalgia in every bite. Stopped in to get lunch. I grew up in Jersey so it was really cool to walk in (bar atmosphere). Radio station from Jersey playing and the cheese steak or chopped cheese depending whether you're in north jersey/New York or south jersey/philly area was delicious! Had a cold beer off and the plain cheese steak (12") The meat was well prepared and the cheese was creamy and pretty much everywhere - which is how you want it! Got a tip from a Philly friend of mine. This is the best cheese steak I've had in SoCal. Make sure you ask for the peppers, They won't ask "wit or witout? " The chicken tenders were tender and juicy. Not exactly a place you drive by and see, however, if you are fortunate enough to find it, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Tasty sandwiches worth waiting for and great service. Found this place last week. Hidden gem for a great lunch! It was super quiet for a Saturday lunch, but looked like they could handle a crowd. Beers on tap and a TV room for events. Fabulous!  Best Philly cheesesteak I've had in California!  Little place in the corner of a strip mall.  Nice people, great food and a deal for vets, fire and police!  Loved this place!
