My wife and I dined at Schooners for one of the best restaurant meals and experiences we have ever had. I began with the octopus starter which was tender and intensely flavorful. My wife started with the Mixed Grains Salad which combined a wide assortment of grains with some shaved local cheese, dressed with a unique vinaigrette. Her main was a perfectly prepared large portion of Alaska king salmon grilled to her specific taste. I had the Seafood Pasta Bolognese—an ample portion of house made pasta topped with a wide selection of chunks of tuna along with bay shrimp and bay scallops and some small pieces of lobster. The seafood was well prepared especially considering that I don’t usually like bay anything because they are too often dry and over cooked. But these were moist and tender. Most important of all was the delightful experience being served by Megan. She helped us pick our choices and was spot on in all of them. She periodically checked to see how we were doing and whether we needed anything. Kudos to her and whoever had the wisdom to hire her. We’re returning tomorrow. More...

We celebrated my birthday at Schooners. We had an early reservation, but the place was already half full, always a good sign. We split the surf and turf special, adding a starter and side. Went to Schooners for a cocktail and some appetizers for a break from shopping on Cannery Row. Was served by Steve or Steven? He was outstanding! Helping my wife and I get through the day haha. My wife had a Glass of Champagne and he walked us through the choices as we are much better at enjoying our champagne than we are deciding on which. I had a Mai Tai beer From a local brewery that our server recommended as well, delicious! Since we were on the Central Coast we decided on Calamari and Artichoke and Crab Dip and both were perfect! Our server Megan made our dinner experience extraordinary. She was professional, knowledgeable and knew the menu well. She answered our questions to guide us to one of the best restaurant meals we've ever had. She unobtrusively checked with us. Her warmth was genuine. With her help we chose two starters (mixed grains and the octopus) and two mains (salmon pave and seafood pasta) that set high water marks for restaurant food. The food was flavorful, fresh, well-prepared--exceptional.All of the staff who attended us were cheerful professionals.The manager stopped by our table to check on our meal and service and was pleased with our praise for Megan, the dining staff and the chef.Everyone was attentive and professional which along with the superb food made the evening a rousing success. Location and view of the bay cannot be beat! Our waiter Steve helped create a memorable Christmas evening with his attention to detail, interest in our pallets and knowledge of their offerings. Searching for a nice, romantic little venue with a good view of the ocean while in Monterey with my wife for her birthday was definitely fulfilled when we found Schooners Coastal Kitchen. The relaxing ambiance and atmosphere was exactly what we were hoping for with a great amount of surf and turf style entree/appetizer options and friendly service. Highly recommended. Just be aware that the location of the restaurant is kind of difficult to find unless you are familiar with the area and/or are staying at The Monterey Plaza Hotel where the restaurant is located at the bottom floor. Great place to eat! Even though I normally do not leave a review, my server suggested it and it was such a great experience that I could not say no. Cortney pulled all the stops it. Request her. She's super educated.I couldn't have a better customer service It's been so cold so I opted for the for the soup which was the crab bisque it was so good.  Not to overpowering bold with heavy cream. We had a delicious meal December 22 with the best service from Cortni & Carlos! Cortni & Carlos kept checking to see if we needed anything and if we did they quickly gave us what we needed! We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and had meals here at this restaurant 3 times (2 dinners and a breakfast). The food is great but there is not a good restaurant without great service.   The service here is great and we felt so welcomed.  The receptionist Portia and Kaitlyn were great with great warming personalities. Our server, Cortni and Carlos were the best.  They were very promoted on our requests and very friendly.  We had Cortni again with Roberto at another dinner.  They were wonderful.  We had many seafood dishes and they were great.  We had raw oyster, salmon, barzino, bass.  Our daughter just loves the chicken strips.  Our first time stay at the hotel and will come back soon.  The harbor view room was wonderful ! Very stunning restaurant that is walking distance from the Cannery Row shops/restaurants. The interior is gorgeous, views are spectacular. This is a nicer restaurant with dimmed lights and a calm ambiance. Food was fantastic, and to eat most items on the menu you have to be seafood lover. As a vegetarian I was able to find veggie items from the sides menu; sizzling mushrooms were delicious. For this restaurant, I sort of broke off my vegetarian streak with trying a delicious crab cake, just couldn't resist. Stopped in last night for a bite to eat for two on this chilly night! First timer. Hostess were nice and were seated pretty fast. Our service was great by our server Cortni she is very attentive and took care of us. I love the ambience of this place! We started with prawns app which was amazing! Nice big prawns packed with flavor! For dinner we ordered the Cioppino and sea bass special. I am a sucker for sea bass and was not let down! Melt in your mouth. My other half loved to Cioppino loads of seafood and broth/sauce was the best part. Now we normally don't do dessert but couldn't resist to order the toffee pudding! To die for! Our experience definitely deserves a review. Our server was amazing and knew everything whether about the food or the history of Monterey. Great customer service! Great menu. Food was amazing!! My swordfish wrapped in prosciutto with artichokes was delicious. The signature Fisherman’s cioppino was full of fresh clams, mussels, calamari and shrimp and was huge. A crab and artichoke dip usually available only in the bar was made for us at our request and was so good. The drink menu was divine!! Our family came here for dinner over Thanksgiving weekend. The location was not easy to find, although they provided plenty of signage. It is located on the lower floor of the Monterey Plaza hotel.The service was very attentive. We were split on the food. The best dish was hands down the Cioppino. We ordered two for our table. The Cioppino was abundant with chucks of flavorful seafood. I got the Seafood pasta Bolognese, which was a bit bland and disappointing. The pieces of the seafood were very tiny. My nephew got the seabass special, and it was also very bland. We ended up getting him a side of Mac and Cheese to make sure he was full. Overall, the ambiance and service was great.. As a Monterey Peninsula native, I give Schooners an excellent review. It's expensive---but I have never not enjoyed my visits there. We now live in the Bay Area, and I recommend it to all my friends and family when they are visiting the Peninsula. What an enjoyable atmosphere--the food and drinks are outstanding, the service and attention given to patrons is exceptional--without being over-bearing---and the views from the Bar and Restaurant are spectacular. It was first recommended to me by a local friend, and we have never been disappointed. I was so happy to find out on our latest visit that valet parking is available to patrons of the restaurant--you do not have to be a guest at the hotel. I love the menu and I love the scenery. This restaurant is located inside the hotel. The hotel's valet will park your car for you, don't forget to get it validated by the restaurant. You do not have to be a hotel guest to dine here. The staff was exceptionally friendly, service was great and the food was delicious! The kids menu was convenient and offered large portions considering it was a kid menu. The also serve fresh pressed apple juice that was so good! We also had the nachos, delicious!!!!Dining inside or on the patio, a beautiful ocean view awaits. You can see the ocean from any table. They have heated lamps, an outdoor bar area and plenty of friendly  birds and seagulls waiting for you to drop a crumb. Bathrooms are located outside of the restaurant inside the hotel, they are exceptionally clean and shiny!  This place is great for a day or evening date and kid friendly! We will return again. Friendly staff, beautiful views, hard to find. I wandered all over the place looking for this restaurant. You have to go inside the hotel to get to it. I was seated instantly in a lovely booth and brought a pretty good cup of coffee and some water. The server took a bit to get to me but once I ordered it came fast. I got the crab cakes Benedict. They came with hashbrowns. Everything tasted pretty good but all of it needed salt. I added a bit and was happy! The potatoes had some peppers in them and overall had a good flavor. The crab cakes alone were very meaty and had a good seasoning, just needed more salt. Of recommend the stop for breakfast. Lovely start to my day! More...
