When I first started training with Mike, I was far from where I could be in the fitness world. Mike is helping me get to where I need to be and want to be at. When I first started training, I never squatted, deadlifted, overhead pressed, or benched at all. He took all the time that was needed to show me how to do it the proper way, and it is helping me get to my goals. I started out only being able to do 95lbs Squat, 95 bench, 135 deadlift, 55 overhead press, all 3 sets of 5. With Mikes help I have been able to improve my numbers to 145 squat, 140 bench, 235 deadlift, 85 overhead press, all 3 sets of 5. I have also improved on my pull-ups where at first I could barely even do 1, but now I can do several. This increase has happened in all about 2 months. If you want someone who is going to be there for you, and make sure you are getting the proper training to make you stronger, use MJT. I will continue to use Mike for the foreseeable future so I can continue increasing my performance numbers, and to become stronger. More...

I knew how to push myself hard and stay consistent with a diet and exercise program. I was also constantly hitting growth plateaus while not dealing with a host of annoying injuries and illnesses. I was tired of losing ground and not getting stronger so I called Mike. MJT Training has helped me push through plateaus, injuries, and other life setbacks while increasing my deadlifts by 17%, my bench press by 12%, and my pull-ups by 100% in two months. He’s responsive, uses a great app, and is highly knowledgable. Mike’s advice through illness/injury has been invaluable in maintaining momentum while not hurting myself more. I highly recommend giving MJT Training a call! More...

I've trained using Mike's program for almost 24 weeks now. Prior to MJT I had hit a plateau in my normal weight training routine, bench press 245lbs,deadlifts 295, squats 285, overhead presses 135. I was maxing out without progress. I started working with Mike & got outta my comfort zone, which broke my mental block. My goal when I started training with Mike was to increase strength & to fine tune my technique.
After 12 weeks I saw progress in the lifts mentioned above. I now max out, bench press 270, deadlifts 335, squats 300, overhead press 155.
Getting past my plateau was no easy task & MJT is no miracle program. I trained hard, listen to the training instructions Mike was providing & hit my short term goals. I am going to keep working with Mike for the next for seeable future & start working on my long term goals.

I've trained with Mike for over 5 years now. He does an excellent job of providing training programs that challenge me while providing enough variety to keep me motivated. I'm in better shape in my 60's than I was in my 20's. More...

Q&As

I empower my clients to achieve their goals on their own terms. I truly believe everyone can be their own hero with hard work and some guidance. Every client receives and completely customized fitness solution based on an initial consultation, along with weekly check-ins, updates, and strategies to overcome obstacles. If the client sees me in-person, they also receive real-time technique instruction and workout modification if needed.

There's no shortcut, and anyone that tells you that is lying to you. Getting the body of your dreams takes time, hard work, and consistency. There will be setbacks and life will get in the way, but you have to keep charging forward.

I love helping people discover their own path to success. There's no magic training system or diet. Different things work for different people, and I love helping my clients navigate their path to figure out what works best for their goals, their preferences, and their lifestyle.

I’ve been interested in physical development since I was in middle school. I remember spending hours in my living room or basement doing endless pushups and sit-ups. My first “weights” were gallon water jugs. I was skinny kid. I was weak and a terrible athlete. I hated how I looked and how I felt, and I desperately wanted respect.

I found the weight room in high school and started training before or after work at my local YMCA. I tried every program I could find. One time, one of the female trainers had to lift a bar off me after I got stapled to the bench while bench pressing. I remember that embarrassment, but it drove me to get better.

6 years later, in 2012, I’d gained 60 pounds of muscle and lost 30 pounds of fat along the way. I could lift weights that I’d only dreamed of. I was stronger, healthier, and happier than I’d ever been. The journey continues today.

But improving your health and physical abilities isn’t just about looking good.

I worked as a police officer for several years. During that time, I developed severe anxiety. I had multiple panic attacks per week. I barely slept. I hated pretty much everyone I encountered and my social life was non-existent. I lived on caffeine and fast food. I gained weight and had severe back pain from sitting in a car all day wearing forty pounds of gear.

At work, I was on top of the world. Outside of work, my life was a disaster.

Even though I left law enforcement to coach full time, I still deal with some of these effects. I still deal with anxiety every day. I’ve had to cancel plans with friends and lost time at work because of it. I’ve seen counselors and have learned that it’s part of what makes me who I am. I’ve stopped fighting it and learned to manage it.

Through all these experiences, the gym has always been there. Sometimes it’s been a stressor in itself and I’ve had to back off. But I’ve learned how to use the gym to help manage whatever else is going on in my life. Sure, training is about looking better and being fit. But what good is looking better or being fit if the rest of your life is a mess? It’s not always about beating yourself down or going beast mode. It’s about taking care of yourself.

Fitness is a tool to enhance the rest of your life and make it better. That’s what I strive to deliver for my clients every single day, both through my coaching business and as a peer advocate for first responders. How can you take care of anyone or anything else if you can’t even take care of yourself?

Fitness should enhance your life, not control it. My job is to focus on YOUR goals, abilities, and expectations, and deliver the best fitness experience possible.

I’ve been coaching since 2011 and have worked with corporate executives, physicians, law enforcement, endurance athletes, and moms and dads. All my clients have needed a simple fitness solution for their busy lives. I cut through the confusing and contradictory information you find online and give you a simple, clear-cut approach to fitness.

Simple doesn’t mean easy, but I’ll give you the tools and support you need to achieve whatever you set your mind to. Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds or have a competitive athletic goal, I’ll guide you along your path to success.

Here are some benefits of working with a fitness coach, no matter what your goals or experience level:

Don’t waste your time in the gym - proper exercise selection and programming
Stay on track - accountability to do what you said you would do
Learn - if you’re interested, learn the why behind the what
Get back on track - when things don’t go perfectly (they never do, this is real life), get guidance and direction
Manage injuries - just because you’re hurting doesn’t mean you have to quit

Services

This isn't traditional "personal training." You aren't buying one hour blocks of my time. I sell results and solutions, not just training sessions.

I charge a flat bi-weekly rate ($99-199) based on how many times per week you want to see me in the gym, but you also receive support outside the gym. You get anytime access to your full custom program right from your phone, including any workouts that we've decided you can do on your own. You also get unlimited messaging, accountability, and support from me throughout the week.

Online coaching won’t replace in-person coaching anytime soon, but for many people it’s fast becoming an ideal way to get expert fitness guidance at a fraction of the cost of traditional 1-on-1 in-person training. Here’s why it’s so great and why I’ve chosen to offer it.

It’s affordable – to give you an example, most personal training is charged by the hour(not mine because I have a better system ?). Here in Nashville, most 1-on-1 personal training run between $60-100 per hour. Contrast that with online training: I charge $75 for every 2 weeks’ worth of coaching, no matter how many workouts per week you’re doing. You’re getting 2 weeks of progress for the cost of one session.

It’s time-efficient – Most 1-on-1 training is blocked in hour or half-hour sessions. You’re either rushing to get everything done in 30 minutes, or sometimes getting everything done in less than an hour but still paying for the time. You might need to be in the gym for longer than 30 minutes but it’s not in your budget. Either way, often you aren’t getting the workout you actually need. With online training, the workout matters, not the schedule. You aren’t paying a trainer’s hourly rate for time, you’re paying for expertise to get you to your goals.

It’s completely personalized – No cookie cutter programs here. You aren’t just following a template. You’re getting the same individualized attention you should be getting during a 1-on-1 in-person session.

It doesn’t require a specific (or any) gym – No more commutes across town to your trainer’s gym. You can use whatever gym you prefer, work out with friends, or work out at home without paying huge in-home training fees.

You can get expert advice from across the country (or world) – if you’re training for a specific goal, you don’t have to settle for the local trainer who may not be well-versed in your needs. You can work with someone who’s been there, done that, and knows what they’re doing, no matter where they live.

You’re still accountable – lots of people like working with a trainer because of the accountability. It’s true that with online training you won’t have a set in-person appointment to make. However, I do regular check-ins every week and strategize with all of my clients to optimize their plans for their lifestyle.

You still get technique help – All my coaching is delivered through an app. Every exercise is broken down step-by-step on video. I also record individualized video explanations of any exercise that you need.
