When the Bakehouse opened in 1992 it started an entire community of Zingerman's businesses. One of my very favorite things they bake, is their Sour Cream Coffee Cake! Simple things done well and made with excellent ingredients! It hits all the right notes! If I could send you to one spot to experience some of the very best food, cheese, baked goods, bread, coffee and candy that our country and world has to offer then it would be here in Ann Arbor, MI! Put the Bakehouse and this food wonderland at the very top of your to go to next list! The Zingerman's Bakehouse cook book is a must have for all bakers! To see videos of the TOP 100 things to eat in the Midwest subscribe to my You Tube page A Biker Dude More...

Super great spot we stopped at for desserts and coffee. Have always loved Zingerman's sandwiches and this restaurant brings some of the attitude and fun of the original to a strip-mall casual table service eatery. We ordered our wedding cakes from Zingerman’s for our 11/9/19 wedding. We love out of state and start to finish the experience was fantastic. We had a two tier bridal cake and an individual cake on each of our 15 tables. We did all different flavors and the staff at Zingerman’s was so helpful in designing both the inside and the outside of all 16 cakes. The cakes were delicious and beautiful and our guests raved about them! I would highly recommend Zingerman’s for your wedding and specialty cake needs. They even left a personalized, hand written note and brownie party package on our gift table! Thank you so much Zingerman’s! We will definitely be back next time we visit Ann Arbor :) More...

Customer service here is exceptional and the presentation of something as simple as slicing and bagging a loaf of bread goes above and beyond. Not to mention how tasty the bread is! I got the September special which was a load of farm bread--right out of the oven  didn't even make it out of the parking lot before chowing down on some of that yummy bread. I used it to make many things, but my favorite was a grilled cheese sandwich  I will certainly be patronizing the bake house again! More...

A wonderful bite of delectable chocolatey goodness. In the bakehouse itself my favorite is the sourdough bread or the wonderful reuben sandwich. Prepare to have restraint here or to gain a few pounds as everything is delicious here also. Zingerman's restaurant and their sandwiches are something of a legend in the Ann Arbor area, and I was recently amazed to discover that you can score some of the bread and baked goods fresh and hot out of the oven. Located near the Ann Arbor airport and Costco, Zingerman's Bakehouse hides nonchalantly in what looks like an industrial park. You will be sure that Siri is steering you wrong as you follow your navigator to the location, but as soon as you reach the last row, you will turn left and see your destination. Step inside and be greeted by the smell of fresh-baking bread and other assorted pastries. On my most recent visit, I couln't resist a coffee cake, and wound up buying a slice to savor. While I waited in the (short) line, I could see workers busily baking in the huge ovens in the back. All that deliciousness, just waiting to be trucked out to the Zingerman's establishments around the city, but I loved knowing that I could get some of my own to enjoy at my leisure. For a delightful surprise that's out of the ordinary, swing on by Zingerman's Bakehouse -- like me, you may just find one of your new favorite spots in town! More...

I stopped by Zingerman's Bakehouse -- this is the first time I've visited what I'm calling the Zingerman Strip. It's an unassuming industrial park-like building area but the an entire section is Z-City! This is dangerous for me because I fill up at Costco and the Z-City empire is chillin' across the way. I'm trying to remember all that I ordered, so here goes! I love that the gal working offered to everything in half for me as I mentioned that I was bringing this in for co-workers. ALL the pastries are DELICIOUS but if you have to prioritize, this is how I would to it: *RED WHITE & BLUE SWEET RÉTES (a Hungarian specialty, you might know it as strudel. We take our own fresh dough and carefully hand stretch it over an 8-foot table until it's thin enough to see through. Then it's folded and layered with melted butter and a sprinkle of cake crumbs, wrapped around fresh tasty fillings, baked until golden brown and dusted with powdered sugar) - this month's was filled with tart cherry, wild blueberry, and sweet cream cheese fillings.YOU HAVE TO GET THIS. I don't usually love strudels of any sort but the texture of these are perfect with the perfect amount of filling. *Juliette's Almond Croissants (filled and coated with with our own almond frangipane, then dusted with powdered sugar.) - Croissant special of the month! I felt like the almond frangipane was enhanced with another fruit element (e.g. pear or something) but 'twas tasty regardless! *LEMON CLOUD (This airy butter pastry is kissed with a touch of our fresh lemon curd to create a danish that will lift you up in to the clouds.) - I thought this morning pastry was really unique. The outside just looks like a hole-less sugar doughnut. The gal working did warn me that when cut in half, it looks "empty" but I thought it was a nice bit of curd --  the lemon wasn't artificial tasting at all or too sweet. *LEMON SCONE (We allow no shortening shortcuts to cut the cost and carve up the flavor. And to kick up the lemon flavor we give them the triple lemon treatment- candied lemon, fresh lemon zest and a touch of real lemon oil.) - I love me some scones & Zingerman's makes a pretty solid one. Now, were's the clotted cream at? *SWEET CREAM BISCUITS (We start by freshly milling organic soft white wheat berries from Ferris Organic Farms in Eaton Rapids, Michigan on our stone mill. Next, we hand-mix these biscuits so they are moist and fluffy, ready to hold a heap of delicious fruits. ) -- SO flaky and beautiful. I ate these on their own but they could definitely hold up some homemade whipped cream and fruit. *BOSTOCK (Our bakers begin with a slice of our independently awesome buttery brioche bread, brush it with orange flavored simple syrup, spread it with almond frangipane, sprinkle it with toasted almonds and bake it.) - The lady working explained this to me as a french toast basically! And it delivered! I really like the texture of this one. HOWEVER, I tend to like more flaky laminated things like croissants and Cheez-Its so I probably wouldn't get this again. I also picked up a baguette - i've never seen a baguette so airy and crumby and beautiful (in the states). More...

Zingerman's Bakehouse anchors a budding array of storefronts here on the south side of A2 that comprise a veritable Zingerman's empire. All these stores appear to share production spaces, and provide the public with a way to get Zingerman's goods on the spot, exactly where they're made, in a car-friendly setting that's near the interstate and doesn't require driving all the way into downtown A2. Your best bet is picking to your heart's content from all the freshly made offerings here, whether the breads, pastries, or other baked items. There are also sandwiches in a refrigerated case as well as packaged items that aren't immediately perishable. Prices on the freshly made goods aren't terribly outrageous, although they do seem a tad spendy on some of the packaged ones ($8.99 for six baked cookies, if I remember correctly). Nevertheless, the fresh items are exactly that - and super delicious.I felt that the service here was slightly less engaging than at the Zingerman's coffee house and especially at the candy manufactory a few doors down, but in true Zingerman's fashion they do offer samples and are patient with explanations of what's on offer. Still, this is worth a visit alongside the Zingerman's creamery, coffee shop, and candy shop at this industrial park. More...
