I came here with a large groups, seeking the juicy lucy.  It did not dissappoint!  It was generously filled with cheese and the beef quality was good.  The bun stood up to the burger as well.  The onions on it, delicious!  The fries were okay and the shake while okay, below the expectations I would have had for it.  The decor is nice, and service was okay. Burgers? sure why not. I mean next to Pizza, isn't there always an appetite for a good old mix of seared ground beef-a few toppings like lettuce, onions, and tomato-pressed gently (or not so gently) against two warm buns. Straight delicious! Let's cut to the chase! Burger? GoodBeer? GoodBartender? Very friendly and attentive.Would I come back? ProbablyWhen i came here with my friend from sophmore year of high school, we were only looking to grab a drink. Beers were priced reasonably ($7) and the draft selection was modest (3 beers) but it was good enough. There's a decent bottle selection as well just in case. However, while i was browsing the menu, i couldn't help but notice that they had a PB burger. What's that? Yes! A peanut butter burger. A peanut butter burger topped with applewood smoked bacon.....i had to try it. Turns out, it's good. Mind blowing? probably not as much as I anticipated it to be, but it was good. The burger patty itself was really juicy and was combo'd with a nice sear on the outside, and the peanut butter from what I could tell was not your average skippy peanut butter but more of a natural, not overly sweet, peanut butter. The marriage in itself just didn't stand out, it was almost too much of one note without anything to cut the peanut butter or the richness of the burger. As crazy as it sounds, I could have probably tried throwing jam on it in an attempt to change the flavor profile just a touch, but who knows. Anyway, come here to try some fancy burgers! About $13-$14 for a burger with no sides. It's a tad pricey but I think it's worth it if you're craving  something classic with a sprinkle of fancy. More...

Great spot and great food! Had the Juicy Lucy with fries and an Arnold Palmer. Juicy Lucy was a great burger. Stuffed with pimiento cheese, it sure hit the spot. Meat was flavorful and burger is a good size. Fries were nice and crispy just how I like. Would definitely come back to try some of their other burgers. More...

Tried and tested last year - we liked it so much, we came back for another birthday this November as well.Reservations made in advance - no problem. Bartender and staff - on task and very personable. Place is on the small-ish side, but if you have a party of 8 (maybe even 10) a long table will fit you all just fine. The play list was awesome last year, and didn't disappoint last weekend either: great mix of 70s + 80s.This is a burger place - at a great price: $10-15/plate. Add some fries and (the best!) fried pickles to share for the table - and you have a phenomenal all-American feast with your friends and family. Yes - a definite "must-stop" place when you are starved, parched, and need a break after the Highline, the Vessel, the mall... and all the people and hoopla in Hudson Yards. Two thumbs up!! Rock on. We were in the area and had just finished with a work related event and were starving.  On our way to find pizza we stumbled over Whitmans. We loved it.  Great menu, very shareable, nice beer and wine menus too.  Great service and very cool decor, but very small restaurant.  We ordered a few different items and the four of us all dug in and shared.  I would come back for sure.  A nice reasonably priced place in the heart of Hudson Yards. Don't miss it. More...

We stopped for a quick bite and I was really pleasantly surprised by:- The service-The décor, nice and warm in that gritty and shady part of Hudson Yards. .-They have gluten free buns! no extra fee!Unfortunately I was disappointed by the burgers, they were a little dry and very simple, I was hoping for a tastier  toasted bun... but still ok. Whitman's is a cool burger spot in the east village, right next Tompkins and other good places. The inside area has a upstairs and downstairs area, it's small upstairs but has enough seating for multiple people. This place does get busy, it always has constant orders and the kitchen could get occupied, it took roughly about 30 minutes to receive, I ordered the juicy Lucy burger with fries. It was absolutely delicious and entirely worth it, the burger was cooked perfectly, the cheese is infused inside the meat and it tastes so good. The fries were seasoned well, everything was good. Our Server was nice and friendly, in terms of prices you're looking at around $20, great selection of beer, overall a pleasant experience. More...

Whitman's is a place of comfort. It's intimate, cozy and dim lit. A perfect setting for deep conversations and amazing specialty crafted burgers. I had the Juicy Lucy and boy is it JUICY! It is literally the opposite of dry. It's smothered and bathed in flavor and onions, which are my absolute favorite. Pair this burger with a Brooklyn Brewery beer and it's a match made in heaven. I've never had a craving for a burger before but now I will. The onion rings are also crispy and are a great accompaniment to the meal. The staff is also friendly and accomadating with seating. Highly recommend this spot! More...

THROUGHLY ENJOYED the lamb burger. The spices, texture, bun, Whooooohooo!!! I'm definitely picky and have high expectations for eating out. Why not? They met all the expectations. Very tasty, can't wait to try more. Also the Pinot Grigio was INCREDIBLE, light fruity and tasty. A+. Lawrence the bartender was also a really cool guy. More...

Few weeks ago, stopped by for a quick bite with a friend. The place is small and cozy, and the people are nice. Kept the order NYC classic and ordered the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese. It was very good and a beer on the side makes it a warm, hearty meal. Prices! This spot has an affordable burger and it's something that makes this place a hit. This could've been a 5 star review, but my burger was very well done when I ordered it to be medium rare. Nevertheless, still good flavor and price. I'd def give this place a shot. More...

My friends and I stumbled upon this burger spot while heading to Thursday kitchen. Maybe it was destined for us to go to Whitman's because Thursday kitchen was packed, we were hungry and was not willing to join that wait list. I told my friends we should just get burgers. Walking in it is small, a bar seating, 2 tables for 2. We thought we might have to sit at the bar but the server directed us a downstairs section. Downstairs there are more seatings and tables. It's still small but I'm sure if you come at the right time, you can seat a party of 8-10 when they combine the tables. We ordered the local beer sausage as starters, it came with a side of spicy brown mustard and caramelized onions. This dish is limited on availability so it's until they sell out for the day. The sausage was good, it had a nice snap to it, not too salty. Pair it with the sweet caramelized onions and mustard and that can be addicting. We ordered the classic burger, Juicy Lucy, and Bluicy burgers. For sides we shared; tater tots, blue cheese fried and onion rings. My friends that had the classic and Juicy Lucy said the burgers were really good. The Juicy Lucy is filled with pimiento cheese! My Bluicy was cooked medium, the way I like it. The Bluicy is filled with blue cheese. My Bluicy burger was really good. The food was good but portion is small. More...

Solid burger spot, not much more than a glorified diner, but with lots of fun burger options (try the burger with peanut butter! ).  A couple revolving beers on tap (and other drinks), good salads, and the fried pickles are excellent.  Servers have always been friendly and helpful.   One TV over the bar, and it is usually tuned to a game.  And close to the High Line so you can walk off all the food! One of the best burgers I've have. I love burgers. The first bite I had was so filling, I knew I was getting into some serious "burgerness". I like to try the Lucy one, but I had a regular burger. Now the fries are trash. The burger needs a better companion. I will go again. More...

Mmmmm...YUM! If you're craving a burger, or a good sandwich, this is a great place to go. I usually get the same things when I come here. ...The patty melt or the philly cheese steak. The reason for this? Consistency. It always taste like the same delicious sandwiches I always have, and that's super important. It's also the perfect ratio of meat, cheese and bread. Never too much of either ingredient. Harmonious, and delicious! (Okay okay I'll stop now haha) The staff is lovely, the prices are fair, the food comes out quickly. What's not to love? (Oh yeah...the calorie count lol) In all seriousness, this place is super yummy. The beer is pretty cheap too More...

Close to Penn Station, Chelsea Market, and the Vessel- this location is on point. Menu was basic diner food- lots of sandwiches and a few salads and apps. Full bar service and even a kids menu...all while not breaking the bank. We had the cheesesteak and 2 burgers. All really good!  The crack kale is so good- get some to share with the table, you won't regret it. Fun hidden burger joint in EV. Looks small when u first walk up, but they have basement seating.  The service is SO spectacular, I would go again simply for the waitresses who were welcoming, accommodating, and sweet. We got the classic juicy Lucy and the mama's boy. The burger was good, but be careful on the first bite. The cheese is extremely hot and can spill out everywhere (it burned my friend when it squirted onto his arm). The Mama's Boy was forgettable, I didn't care for the bbq sauce used. Highly recommend the Brussels!!! More...

Juicy Lucy! What a explosion of flavor! I tend to like my burgers simple and not overly done with toppings. However, cheese is a must for me, and Whitman's did that in a uniquely delicious way. If you read all the other reviews, you'll know that the creamy center of this burger is filled with gooey goodness. The meat was cooked very well, which was surprising since the patty didn't have a normal center. The soft pillowy bread and fresh condiments made this a real treat. More...

I chose this place because of its proximity to the Vessel and I actually smelled the burgers before I even saw the storefront. I liked the vibe here. My only regret is that I didn't order a burger. Since I'm trying to eat more healthful (tough for someone who loves to eat), I ordered the shaved Brussels sprout salad and a side of grilled chicken. It was OK. The vinegarette could have been tangier and and the feta should have been crumbled instead of cubed. And the chicken was a hockey puck but I have nobody to blame but myself for ordering grilled chicken at a burger joint. In spite of MY bad experience, I am still giving Whitman's a 4 star rating because everyone else in my party were smart and ordered burgers and sweet potato fries and tater tots, local pickles and sausage. And they loved their food. So, I would be willing to go back and am basing my recommendation on how everyone else's food looked and smelled. Decent service. Nice bar and reasonable prices. More...

tldr: ok burgers, but good flavor combinationsThe burgers here are good. I got the hound burger, which has a rich cheese on top of a lightly seasoned patty. It was a great mix of texture and flavor. My one issue with this burger is that the top of the burger was grilled, but the inside of the burger was soft. I prefer my buns toasted on the inside. The fries were the best I've had, nice and crispy and fluffy on the inside. The chips here are unique too, they're similar to very thin cut waffle fries. The inside is pretty nice and quirky, and the people nice. More...

Came here for happy hour right before stopping at the Vessel and shops at the yard. We were able to find street parking a block away too. The happy hour menu was pretty good. If you order a drink at you get a free slider! Despite being free, it was very tastey. I ordered the green chili burger and my boyfriend ordered the spicy burger (forgot the actual names). Two words: JUICY LUCY!That is the very first thing that comes to mind when I think about Whitman's! I went here for a team lunch and was NOT disappointed. The Juicy Lucy burger was super popular at the time so I figured I give it a try. It was packed with flavor and definitely lived up to its name in the moisture department! The cheese filling was great addition! I definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the Hudson Yards area of NYC. In a up an coming area of NYC...Whitmans has three or four different locations around the city. The East Village and SOHO to name a few. Haven't tried them yet, but this one was pretty darn good. What caught my eye right off the bat was the Juicy Lucy Burger only $14.00. Two burgers albeit a little small put together with pimento cheese in the middle. Just adding a little heat for your meal. This is a midwestern thing that has worked its way to the Big Apple. By no means is this as big like those that I've had in Saint Paul awhile back. My dining partner went for another popular item called the Hound also $14.00. That one was accompanied with shoe string fries and bacon. We shared an order of onion rings which were very good. Very large and cooked to order. Save room for the warm chocolate chip cookies and milk at the end. Yes I split them in half and dunked them in my glass. Just make sure you have plenty of napkins for your meal. Prices are reasonable for this area of the city. Easy access by the 7 train that stops only a few blocks away at Hudson & 34th Street station. Went with a few friends. We chose Whitman's due to its close proximity to the theater we were going to and based on the good Yelp reviews. When we arrived, it looked so small and was empty so we actually thought twice about going in.  One of the (very nice) waitresses came out and spoke with us and we decided to try it. We were all glad that we did!  Two of us shared the brussel sprout salad (pretty good) and The Hound burger, the other two shared a turkey burger. The burgers were absolutely delicious; juicy and very flavorful.  The sweet potato fries were also delicious. The chef was so accommodating that he cooked half of the Hound burger to "well done " and the other half to "medium".  The quality of the meat used for the Hound burger was well above par. Ashley, our waitress, was patient and kind, kept our glasses full and checked in with us several times throughout the meal. I would recommend Whitman's and plan on going back again myself!! Yummy! Came here for a late lunch on Saturday, was pleasantly surprised to find no wait and a pretty relaxed atmosphere given how hectic the Hudson yards area can be on weekends. Not a huge menu, but plenty of out there burger and sandwich options along with a nice selection of craft beers and other drinks. I had the Mama's boy which had pulled chicken, "coffee" bbq sauce, jalapeño slaw and came with the crack kale. The sandwich was solid, chicken was juicy and had a good ratio of meat to slaw so you noticed the jalapeño but it wasn't overwhelming. The bbq sauce was very sweet, if coffee was an ingredient it must not have been used to add any flavor, I certainly didn't notice any hints of coffee flavor. I'm not sure what type of bread was used, but it was very thick and dry, I think the sandwich lends itself much better to a lighter bread. The crack kale was surprisingly the star of the meal. They're flash fried and covered in old bay seasoning. They taste like super light potato chips I can't recommend them enough. Overall, definitely worth checking out. Given the variety of options I'm sure most people can find something they like here. More...

Very lively busy venue. Not that big so if you go at busy times especially during brunch there will be a wait. The bar seats about 10 people and I was lucky to grab 2 seats. They have a large number of craft burgers and also a few we've seen on food network like the juicy Lucy. Although we didn't eat the food smelled and looked amazing. Only downfall is I'm a huge bloody mary drinker and this one was a let down. It was spicy but lacked flavor and needed a kick. I tried adding vinegar and salt even but it was still hard to drink. My friends and I stumbled into Whitman's while looking to carb up before our night out. Brita, our server, was so adorable and sweet. She worked as hard as she could go serve all tables while running back and forth from upstairs to downstairs -- Go Brita! (BTW -- most of the seating is downstairs and upstairs only has a table for 4, 2, and another 4 chairs at a countertop for seating). We got a variety of things like the fried pickles and onion rings to start. They were great. With it being my first time here I decided to go with the "Whitman's Classic" with cheddar cheese cooked medium. It was delicious, juicy, and cooked to my liking. The food here is delicious !! Tasty, freshly made food without the standard break-your-budget NYC price tag . The venue is clean and fun and the service is fantastic. The staff are quick, efficient, polite and friendly . Rebecca waited on me and was the absolute best ! Always attentive without crowding me or hovering too much, gave honest reviews of the different menu items without pushing the priciest options, brought my food out as soon as it was ready and made sure to grab my check as soon as I was ready to go . She was friendly and kind , all while juggling how packed the restaurant was! Chose this restaurant to take a group of 20 people (of middle schoolers and staff) for a quick lunch during busy busy lunch time. Carol (the manager) was extremely helpful and coordinated all the logistics via email. She let us pre-order the lunch for each person and even gave us complimentary drinks! We ended up running late (while being a tight schedule) yet they were completely understanding. Our table was ready for us when we got in, and their service was impeccable! Eating out in New York is routinely mediocre and overpriced, so Whitman's was a nice surprise in that is was excellent and great value!  Saturday night around 8, no wait (!), friendly efficient service.  We weren't expecting much but the wedge salad was perfect on all counts (we recently had one at an upscale midtown steakhouse that was not nearly as good as this) and the burgers were perfectly in every regard.  I can't remember a good burger I've had out recently, and this was really good.  Perfectly seasoned, perfectly charred and crispy on the outside and a perfect medium rare on the inside.  The accoutrement to my The Hound and my husband's the Juicy Lucy were just right and they were assembled so they were easy to eat.  The 1/4 sour pickles to start also a plus.  Wish the wine selection were a little better, but the only red they had, a Pinot Noir for $34 a bottle was not bad for the place and the price.  Clean, small, but not feeling crowded even with all the tables full.  And good bang for the buck.  Very happy to have found this place. Ate here for the first time - had their classic burger and the patty, though it was small, was very well seasoned.  Overall the burger was very good (though small! ) the fries were just okay and I would recommend skipping the onion rings - wayyyy too much batter.  Pro tip: the sodas are freely refillable but you do have to ask since our server never offered.  While the ambiance is great, I think the overall value per $ spent is about average.  Service: 3.5, value: 3, food: 4.5 for burger, 3 for fries/onion rings.  I would consider coming back if I was with friends that wanted a decent place to ch More...

I have been here several times and this is my go-to neighborhood burger spot.  The atmosphere isn't the greatest - it's always overly air conditioned, and it is way too bright in there.  Aside from that, I am a fan.  The staff is very nice and efficient.  Orders go in quickly and the food comes out quickly and then they bring an iPad to your table to settle the bill. They have a massive selection of burgers to choose from, but I usually get the classic with sweet potato fries.  The burger comes with a typical pinkish "burger sauce" that is tasty.  The fries are very good, too.  They have a decent beer selection.  Everything here is reasonably priced and when Hudson Yards fills out with high end restaurants, this will probably be the only place I can afford. My only complaint is that their specials don't always come out as good as their menu staples.  They had tater tots a week ago and they were soaked in grease and pretty gross.  Stick to the main menu and you will not be disappointed. Went on a Fri night around 7:30.  The restaurant was about half full.   It was a hot night and the place was cool, with comfy banquettes and a cool vibe.  Our burgers were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious (I had the Hound), as were the sweet potato fries.   Our waitress was lovely, friendly, helpful and efficient.  I was waffling over beer choice and she offered a sample.I am taking off a star because, as another reviewer noted, the draft beer was not cold, and also because as it filled up, it got really noisy. We had recently tried Iron Burger and was really yearning for a better burger joint and this place did not disappoint. The place is small with dining seating downstairs. We ordered blue cheese fries for the table and that was gone in less than 3 minutes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the fries. I ordered the JUICY LUCY. Yeah this burger deserved caps. This is one of the juiciest burgers I have ever bit into. I'm a strong believer in not adding ketchup at all if its a damn good burger. Whitman's is an excellent burger, with mediocre service and a lack of sides (you can order sides, but it's my personal opinion that a burger should come with fries at a minimum). The wait staff didn't bring us silverware, napkins were nowhere to be found, and refills of water and beer were rare. Definitely order the crack kale. It is AMAZING. When my friend recommended this spot for a burger we traveled across the city (30 mins from an Irish Pub we were just indulging in beverages) to go here. I was expecting a bustling, large spot with a sit down bar. I was mistaken (and I should have read some reviews before going here). It's small...I mean really small. Upstairs seats maybe 12 peeps with a couple of tables and stools against the wall. They have literally 1 table outside (just enough space for it). There is seating downstairs but I didn't venture there. On to the food - their burgers are the really good. Small but good. They are known for the Juicy Lucy (beef short rib blend stuffed with pimento cheese; caramelized onion, bibb lettuce, tomato, spicy pickles, sauce, on sesame bun) which my friend had and enjoyed.  I ordered the The Hound (applewood smoked bacon infused patty, arugula, smoked gruyere, potato crips, on potato bun) which I would recommend to anyone going. They came out as advertised (medium rare). Sides are extra - $6 for a bowl of fries with blue cheese, enough to share (they were good but not five guys good) and onion rings which I would pass on as they fell apart while eating. Beer on tap are exactly 1. We opted for a pitcher ($24). They had some canned and bottled brews along with wine.Service was great! Our server was friendly and prompt. After watching the afc championship game, I was in the mood for burgers around the saint marks area. Was debating between this and Paul's da burger joint. We decided on here after reading Paul's was greasy, and also the pictures of burgers here also looked a lot more appealing. It was empty when we arrived so seating was no problem. I had a hard time deciding between the pb&b burger(peanut butter and bacon) or the bacon, egg and cheese (exactly as is sounds). I ended up going with the bacon, egg and cheese. Food came pretty quickly. Came with a decently sized patty, apple wood smoked bacon and a fried egg on top. Definitely looked very yummy. After the first bite, I was satisfied with the taste. Burger was cooked medium like I asked, the egg and bacon made the burger even better (bacon makes everything better). I devoured the burger in probably 5 bites or so. I was between a 4 and a 5 for this place, and technically this is not the best burger I've ever had so I settled with a 4. Small place in east village that I came across through yelp. The main area had just a few tables, and the server took our order quickly. I ordered the patty melt($12), which was a burger I'm pressed Texas toast with lots of cheese. The burger was wonderful, cooked medium as I asked and lots of cheese to go with it. Greasy but as expected with a burger melt. It came with a pickle and housemade chips (personally I was not a fan of the chips but so be it). Order came out rather quickly. They do takeout and delivery. After a brief absence from one another, my BFF and I met up again in NYC (after only not seeing one another for about a month or so) for lunch. It was a Friday and she works close by so we chose Whitman's for a quick bite to catch up. We arrived and were fortunately seated immediately but the place was very busy (1 PM). Our waitress was really nice and brought us some water over and we declined any  other beverages. The menu itself is pretty vast for a small spot so it took us quite some time to decide. The space itself is very charming, small but very chic and inviting. I loved the décor and assume that they get a lot of tourists given its proximity to The Highline. There seemed to be plenty of staff and no one seemed to be angry which is always a plus for diners. My girlfriend and I then ordered: a regular French fry to share, a Juicy Lucy for her, and a Green Chili Burger (forget the name of it) for me. As far as the French fries go - they kind of sucked. I mean they weren't super hot in lacked so much salt it was unreal. I can't speak to her burger but did notice it was so very messy that she almost needed a fork to get through it. My burger was pretty good! The patty self was seasoned well and cooked medium as requested. The Swiss cheese and ample green chilis made it salty and spicy and I enjoyed it. Overall, I was impressed and not impressed at the same time. I just assumed that a burger spot would do better in the fry department, I mean what goes with burgers better than fries? I would go back because it was a good burger but I'm not sure they are doing enough to stand out in the sea of restaurants available to New Yorkers and visitors alike. More...

Now this is one solid burger. A small little shop nestled away, you'll find Whitman's packs a big punch in a small package. After working up an appetite walking the beautiful High Line, Whitmans was a perfect choice for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon.  Its kind of funny, sometimes it's the restaurants you just stumble across that end up being memorable. We had good attentive service, comfortable seating, and truly outstanding burgers.  Am I crazy?  Is this not one of the best burgers I've had in recent memory?  It was called the Mangold, I believe.  Yummy, horseradish and cheese galore.  My husband had a delish burger with bacon and peanut butter.  The meat was what set both apart, very good quality, and nice and pink in the center. The decor/atmosphere is kind of laid back/classy gastropub.  Full bar.  I tried another local New York beer that I was underwhelmed by.  Sorry, I don't remember the name.  We would have never eaten here if not the close proximity to the High Line.  I think its a perfect stop if you are walking that wonderful landmark in Manhattan. The service here was pleasant and quick. We went there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I had the mama's boy with the crack kale. I've had kale chips before but I've never heard of crack kale so I decided to try it out and the waiter said it was her favorite thing on the menu. The sandwich was very good but unfortunately the crack kale was not. It was drenched in oil and the pieces that I did try, with every bite my mouth was filled with oil. Needless to say, I won't be ordering the crack kale anymore. My boyfriend had the chicken club with fries. He definitely made the right decision with going with the fries. The waiter was very attentive to our water but she didn't ask why I still had a plate full of the crack kale. More...

I stopped by to grab something on a weekday night. The place is simple, nice and there were some people dining in. I had the Juicy Lucy to go and got a little disappointed with the size of the burger - I thought I would have to to have at least another one to get satisfied. Thankfully that was not the case as the patty is thick and solid. The burger itself is great, full of flavor and very well seasoned but not as juicy as I was expecting from something named "Juicy Lucy". I believe it is because it was well done as opposed to what I asked for (medium). The cheese inside blends very well with the meat and having a burger filled with cheese is something you don't see very often.Overall I found it a little overpriced and the patty arrived far from what I asked for, but will definitely give the place another try More...

I've only done take-out here so can't speak to the dine-in experience, but the food is great. I usually go with the cheesesteak, which is on the pricey side at $13 but comes with a huge portion of meat and cheese (and an array of other toppings if you so desire, ranging from avocado to mushrooms) as well as a side of fries! The fries are unexpectedly good - kind of a medium cut (smaller than steak fries but not quite French) and have a crispy exterior but soft interior. I also sometimes get the corn, which is just a side of sauteed corn kernels that are kind of buttery. They also have a free soda for orders over $15 on Seamless, so that's a nice bonus. Definitely a heavy meal, but excellent for indulgence. More...

Thank you Whitman's for introducing me to one of my favorite ways to eat a burger now. It might sound crazy at first but for all you peanut butter fans (sorry for those who are allergic to peanuts), you have to try the PB& B burger. You will be wowed! The peanut butter and bacon adds a really nice twist to the juicy beef short rib blend burger. Whitman's was such a cool place! Although, we were a party of 6 and we had to sit in the basement, because they couldn't sit us upstairs or outside (those tables are for smaller parties). Their burgers were amazing though! I had a grilled cheese - everyone else I was with had a burger, and I tried them. I would definitely get a burger next time. Although the grilled cheese was made with three different cheeses and was literally the best grilled cheese I've ever had!We also ordered the sausage appetizer. I was starving and needed something to start with. It was big enough to share with several people. And, it was super tasty. I would definitely come back here but I would order the burger, because it looks like that's the go-to item here. I would also probably only go with one or two other people next time so I could sit upstairs or outside. It was sort of stuffy downstairs in the basement with no air flow. I'll be back to try something else next time! More...

This place is a hidden gem in the heart of the city. It may be hard to spot because it isn't a super huge restaurant but trust me, it is worth the search to come and try the burgers at least once. There is a top floor where there is limit seating but with an outdoor view. The workers also offers going downstairs where there are more tables. As you walk downstairs, there is a strong back in the day vibe with dim lighting. The workers were super sweet and always came back to check up on us. The menu has a variety of burgers and does offer the option of adding on additional items one may like in their burger such as bacon. I ordered the Juicy Lucy which should be the first burger listed in the menu. The burger was super juicy and seasoned well. Although I didn't add anything on, it tasted amazing! The meat was tender and had so much flavor. Note that you do have the option of switching the bun for a potato bun for those who are wondering. The tator tots were amazing as well ( a tad bit pricy considering the portion was small) but it was cooked wonderfully. It was crispy and loaded with seasoning. Overall, I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and the food that it offered! More...

The burgers are honestly incredible. Might be the best burger I've ever had and at the very least top three. Came here just for the Juicy Lucy and she did not disappoint. Amazing tender beef, crunchy pickles, and pimento cheese bursting out with every bite. Sublime. My husband had the Hound and the crispy potato sticks with gruyere were great touches. Burger heaven. I docked a star because the service was subpar - forgot that we were waiting for a table and then never delivered the blue cheese fries we ordered (they deducted from the bill of course). I've been here so many times - both with my husband and with friends - and it never disappoints. It can get crowded though, and is a bit small. The upstairs area is kind of bare and too lit up and not as comfortable. It's best to get a table downstairs, where it's more laid-back, dark, and they have more tables. My go-to burger is the Hound (applewood smoked bacon infused patty, arugula, smoked gruyere, potato crips, on potato bun). It's small but oh so good. Their crack kale is also great as are the fries, sweet potato or regular. The red wine is decent and my husband likes the cheap beer options. I've been to the Whitman's on 2nd Ave, so I came in here knowing that I'd already LOVE the food. I'm blown away by the service at Whitman's always, and I'm always confused as to why each location is never packed with people. The burgers are absolutely outstanding, easily some of the best I've had. I love burgers, but I *especially* love Whitman's burgers! My server (I can't recall her name) was so friendly and patient, we even struck up a conversation about the book I was reading while I waited for my food. I love any place with house-made chips. I love the change of ambiance. Whitman's HY, while casual like it's St. Mark's counterpart, has a classier vibe. It's the perfect place to take a date to, or to just enjoy a nice meal on your own. I visited whitmans for a burger meet up with efforts to try the juicy Lucy burger. I wasn't crazy about the limited seating in the store front but was delighted to find more room downstairs. We came here after going to a gallery show. It was a good find! Friendly staff and we got seated right away. I ordered the kale chips and they were great . Definitely good for sharing. We had the Whitman burger medium rare. They came medium rare and were very juicy. Definitely a great burger for the price. We added bacon and cheese, the add ons cost less than Bareburger, our usual burger haunt, and the portions were good. The only disappointment was the fries, which were 1/8 on an inch each, and soggy with grease. We returned them and that's coming from a couple that loves a good frie. The short: great indulgence food, and fun and modern environment. The long: 10/10. Me and some friends went here after a long day at the NY Auto Show (also 10/10) and we were starving as the food in the auto show is crazy expensive. I actually wanted to go to Snax Spot, but the rest of the group wanted something closer to the car. So I found this place. I'm glad I did. The place looks sketchy form the outside when it's dark, but the inside is nice and cozy. Feels like a pub, but more mature. Very original decor, and my dad wouldn't stop talking about how smart it was to use pipes as shelf holders (behind the bar). I ordered the party melt with sweet potato fries. My dad got the Goldmans burger. My 2 friends got the cheesesteak. Took a long time to make up our minds because everything looked appetizing. We ordered our food, and waited. I think the wait was longer than it should have been. We probably waited a good 40 min for our food. We were starting to get frustrated but the food then came out. My dad was about disappointed with the size of the Goldmans burger, as it was pretty small and didn't come with fries. He said it was a good burger, but not worth the wait. I got the patty melt, and it was a sight to behold. I ate the sweet potato fries like they were life support. Just so good. The patty melt was a solid 5/5 burger as an indulgence meal. Burger. Lots of cheese. Between two slices of toast. My friends said the cheesesteaks and fries were a bargain for the money. They said it was one of the best cheesesteaks they have ever had. Looked great too. I am definitely coming here again next time im in the area!!! Amazing dinner after a long hungry day!!!!!!Sidenote: best pickle that came with a burger in my life! Small spot in east village that we went to on a Sunday for a late 2:00ish lunch. The place is small but manages to seat a decent amount because they also have a downstairs basement area. Lots of personality and cozy decor. I got the grilled cheese with French fries instead of potato chips for the side ($1 upcharge). Yummy! Not a huge portion but just right and very reasonable at $9 (plus the $1 upcharge). My friend got the Juicy Lucy burger ($12). Does not come with fries but my friend said the burger was very tasty-cheese is stuff inside the patty. The burger also wasn't huge but seemed pretty filling. Amazing burgers, both classic Juicy Lucy to creative twists like PB&B with amazing sides!Where do you go when you need an amazing burger without breaking the bank? You come to Whitman's and get the Juicy Lucy! Perfect beef patty with piping hot pimento cheese oozing off the side. You will feel like you are in a Carl's Jr commercial as you eat that Juicy Lucy!I was tempted by the PB&B (Peanut Butter and Bacon Burger) because I wanted something different and I always wanted to know what it would be like. When it comes, you feel kind of sad because its just one color note whereas the Juicy Lucy is all red, yellow, green. However, it actually really works and they do it well! Crispy bacon with peanut butter and a perfectly seared burger patty! I was scared the peanut butter was too thick, but the heat of the bacon and patty melted the sauce. It was good!Crack kale has such a fitting name. The crispiest kale I have ever had, but not too oily! You can never replicate something like this at home! Perfectly seasoned, not too salty! We almost had to fight each other over the crack kale and ended up getting one to go for a friend. The only miss was the chips that accompanied the entrees such as Mama's boy. They were quite soggy and kind of disappointing compared to how crispy the kale was. More...

Wow, I didn't realize how many people love this place! Lot of 5 star reviews! I wouldn't say my experience lived up to the 5 stars, but it was pretty good. I work in 10 Hudson Yards, so naturally, when new food options open up, my coworkers and I are there. The cafeteria in our building is so boring - it looks nice, but you get tired of the food after a while.Anyway, it was pretty quiet for lunch on Friday. I expected it to be a little more crowded especially since it's relatively new. I ended up getting the Hound burger with fries and crack kale. The Hound burger was pretty delicious - the flavors really work together. The fries were good too, but the star was really the crack kale. Wow, that crispy kale is amazing!! I would come back just for that. We also ended up getting dessert - cookies with milk. Wow, those cookies are amazing!! If you love soft, undercooked cookies like me, then you have to get these. They were so warm and the cookies just ripped off so easily. Ask any of my children and they'll tell you how much I enjoy Whitman's! Every time after we order I strike a solemn tone and ask, "Who can tell me who this restaurant is named after?" All of my children exclaim in unison, "Walt Whitman!!" I always smile and order myself a congratulatory beer for seizing a teachable moment - but during our latest visit my eldest asked, "Who is Walt Whitman?" I hesitated and then answered, "He was a very important ...writer, and an even more important poet... and most importantly, he was a chocolatier!" He looked at me skeptically and asked, "What poems did he write?" "Well, the name of a poem isn't really the most important part of it... I think they were sonnets, maybe? The important thing to remember is that he invented the chocolate sampler! The same chocolate sampler that I bought for your mother every Valentine's Day until she finally married me!" At that the children cheer! I always order the Juicy Lucy Hamburger at Whitman's and it's delicious every time. My youngest asked me why it's named Juicy Lucy. I exclaimed, "It's named after one of Walt Whitman's poems, of course! His most famous poem! I can't believe I almost forgot its title!" My eldest subtly nodded in apology. I ordered a second beer in celebration. More...

A few months ago, I had the good fortune of stumbling onto Whitman's in the lower Eastside. On a return trip, I discovered their newest location. In a city full of pretentious restaurants, this is a fantastic burger place at an affordable price! The facility is located in a hot new neighborhood. My only disappointment is that they are not playing the cool 80s music like they did in the lower Eastside. Highly recommend visitors to run away from Time Square and come over to this this location! Great Burger, nice staff, good beer selection, very  knowledgeable bartender! The food was really good really enjoyed the brussels sprouts and the Lamberger. The feta made it really nice. They're fresh pickles are really nice and add to the  Bloody Mary and a slice of bacon. Nice simple menu. More...

I had the Juicy Lucy and fries at the bartender's recommendation. She recommended it with Frank's Red Hot Sauce. It was all good. Fries were fresh and crispy and the burger was messy and delicious. If it weren't 2500 miles from home, I'd be a regular. More...

The biggest and brightest location yet, Whitman's still has the same amazing burgers and sandwiches.Located way out in the up and coming Hudson Yards area, it's a much more inviting and comfortable location than the cramped East Village original and the packed City Kitchen kiosk. They do a really simple but perfect burger here. The fries aren't the best, but the Peanut Butter & Bacon Burger ($12) and the East Villi Cheesesteak ($14) are some of the best you can get in NYC.Don't miss the homemade chocolate chip cookies too ($6). He bakes them very undercooked, so they're gooey and amazing like a good chocolate chip cookie should be.It's a bit out of the way for now, but is easily the best option if you happen to be around here or don't mind walking a few blocks for good food if you are near Madison Square Garden or Penn Station. Came here today and everything I tried was delicious! Their juicy Lucy burger is intense but if you love cheese you'll love it. Ours was cooked medium rare-ish and jam packed with oozy gooey pimento cheese. SO good! Their blue cheese fries are also sinfully decadent. Really, really amazing and a total star on their own. Their "crack kale" is also amazing - basically a big ol' bowl of crunchy kale chips, a perfect healthy side to our cheese stuffed burger and blue cheese gravy covered french fries, lol. .My friends loved their fried pickles and their cheesesteak sandwich is to die for. I also enjoy their 3 cheese grilled cheese sandwich made on Pullman bread. This is Whitman's 3rd location and and they're in the soft opening stages this week. Everything here is made from scratch and they use really quality ingredients. Good beer list and interesting cocktails round out my experience here. I can't wait to come back! More...

Went here with a friend after hearing great things about their burgers. We arrived around 1pm on a Saturday and we were easily seated in their downstairs dining room. We decided to start with an order of the Brussels sprouts, which were very tasty and had a nice crispyness and bite to them. For the main part of the meal, I decided to go with the Juicy Lucy. Despite the fact that this burger was a little on the smaller side, it definitely was worth the hype. The meat was tender, the cheese was oozing and the sauce and onions really added nice flavor to it.Overall, this place is a little on the expensive side for the size of the burger, but it is quite tasty. In addition, service is friendly and food comes out quickly. More...

This place is charming AF + they have great sides. If you're going to complain about your delivery not being piping hot. .. french fries don't retain much heat guys. Just appreciate the fact that you're privileged enough to live in a city where someone will bring your food to you for like three bucks. More...

I've been here multiple times and just really love the food. The juicy lucy is always delicious, and the blue cheese fries are my favorite fries in the city! I don't necessarily agree with all the comments about the size of the burger. It is a bit smaller than your average cheeseburger, but I think the size matches the price. You'll still be left full and satisfied afterwards. A few tips are try to order the beer on draft, because on more than one occasional the bottled beers were a tad on the warm side. I wish it was a one time thing but it seems to be the norm. Also,it'd be great if the servers would just write down the order instead of just listening and remembering. We've had an appetizer and a beer forgotten, and on another occasion the server came back twice to confirm what we had ordered! Just write it down!!!!!!!!!!! All these things aside, I'll still continue to go back because the food is really really good. More...

Whitman's just does it right. Whether you order delivery, takeout, or dine in, I am confident you will be another satisfied customer. When craving a great cheeseburger in NYC, Whitman's Juicy Lucy is what comes to mind. It's a must have....but also try their salads, cheesesteak, fries, and fried pickles...you won't be disappointed. Love this place!! Super cozy and casual burger spot, with a downstairs dining room with about 15 seats and chickens on the wall paper. My boyfriend and I split the fried pickles, crack kale, and blue cheese fries (ended up being too much food obviously) and I got the veggie burger while my boyfriend got the Juicy Lucy. Super affordable and fast and the food was amazing! We will definitely be back! More...

Stumbled upon this place on a cold day. Had a grilled cheese, bleu cheese fries, and a beer. The bleu cheese fries were fantastic! The grilled cheese was a bit small for the price, and nothing particularly special, but was still good.  The service was fantastic. Would return to try the burgers which look amazing! More...

One way to describe the decor is unassuming. My lovely bride and I turned right and went downstairs to the Walt-Whitman-themed basement room, which was filled by 6:30 pm. Started with the best fried pickles in NYC.  I ordered the Juicy Lucy, which came out of the kitchen on the rare side.  It disappeared in five big bites.  OMFG.  My lovely bride absolutely loved her patty melt on rye.  Service is prompt and the food is very good. Whitman's is such a unique little spot in the EV!  Love it.Very low key feel.  Sitting in the lower level you almost feel like you're in your best friend's basement in Massachusetts.  Very quaint with fun knick knacks all over the place. The staff was really nice and accomodating, and they were pretty fast which is always nice! The food was great and super reasonably priced!  Burgers are a must, but the BLT was also delicious, as were the brussels sprouts!Definitely will be going back.  It's a great place for a casual dinner with friends! We had the day off work and after a tough morning of sleeping in & gymming, we decided we wanted a burger for lunch. The short: this place didn't disappoint. It's tiny & charming and the food was incredible. I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush (it's good for leisurely eating). The longer: I accidentally turned the lights off when we walked in [note: don't lean on the wall near the front door], but then we headed downstairs. It's dimly lit and cutely/patriotically decorated. We started with the fried pickles. Amazing. Highly recommend as a starter. We then shared the burger special of the day-- horseradish cheddar with caramelized onions and mushrooms; the bacon, egg & cheese burger; Brussels sprouts and blue cheese fries. We both LOVED the bacon, egg & cheese burger. The burgers are on the smaller side, but super flavorful. The fries were a little too blue cheesy for me, but the Brussels sprouts were bomb. Pro tip: use the fried pickle dipping sauce with your Brussels. The waitress was SO nice, but had a lot of tables, so service was a little on the slower side, but it was so good and we'd definitely be back. More...

Came here to order take our for their Philly cheesesteak sandwich. I have to say, they make a mean Philly cheesesteak. From the outside of the sandwich it doesn't look like much, but the flavor and everything about it is pretty darn good. It was way better than I expected. The sandwich looks big, but it isn't as much as I thought because I didn't think I could finish it and actually did. The bread was soft on the outside which I kind of liked better than the traditional cheesesteaks. The ground beef was flavorful and the cheese wasn't overwhelming. Some places slap on way too much cheese and all you can taste is that, but this cheesesteak has the perfect balance of cheese and meat flavor. Really enjoyed it. Their fries that come with it are okay. I think because I got take our, my fries got a little soggy. Otherwise, it would have probably tasted much better. More...

Honestly, the best burger joint in New York City. Took my friend from UK to this burger joint while he was in the US and he loved it. I'll be coming back here with more friends who haven't tried this place yet! More...

GET THE FRIED PICKLES! Perfectly fried to the crisp, so juicy and not overly salty (like some others I've had). It was paired with a chipotle-mayo type sauce and I just could not stop eating it. As for the burgers, there were a good amount of selections for beef and chicken. I got the Juicy Lucy and my boyfriend got the Bluicy Lucy. The burgers were quite similar except my burger was stuffed with pimento cheese, and his with blue cheese but both delicious. I actually liked the Bluicy Lucy a little better because the flavors were unique. We wanted to try their dessert menu as well, but we were too full! Maybe next time. More...
