I came here with a large groups, seeking the juicy lucy.  It did not dissappoint!  It was generously filled with cheese and the beef quality was good.  The bun stood up to the burger as well.  The onions on it, delicious!  The fries were okay and the shake while okay, below the expectations I would have had for it.  The decor is nice, and service was okay. Burgers? sure why not. I mean next to Pizza, isn't there always an appetite for a good old mix of seared ground beef-a few toppings like lettuce, onions, and tomato-pressed gently (or not so gently) against two warm buns. Straight delicious! Let's cut to the chase! Burger? GoodBeer? GoodBartender? Very friendly and attentive.Would I come back? ProbablyWhen i came here with my friend from sophmore year of high school, we were only looking to grab a drink. Beers were priced reasonably ($7) and the draft selection was modest (3 beers) but it was good enough. There's a decent bottle selection as well just in case. However, while i was browsing the menu, i couldn't help but notice that they had a PB burger. What's that? Yes! A peanut butter burger. A peanut butter burger topped with applewood smoked bacon.....i had to try it. Turns out, it's good. Mind blowing? probably not as much as I anticipated it to be, but it was good. The burger patty itself was really juicy and was combo'd with a nice sear on the outside, and the peanut butter from what I could tell was not your average skippy peanut butter but more of a natural, not overly sweet, peanut butter. The marriage in itself just didn't stand out, it was almost too much of one note without anything to cut the peanut butter or the richness of the burger. As crazy as it sounds, I could have probably tried throwing jam on it in an attempt to change the flavor profile just a touch, but who knows. Anyway, come here to try some fancy burgers! About $13-$14 for a burger with no sides. It's a tad pricey but I think it's worth it if you're craving  something classic with a sprinkle of fancy. More...

Tried and tested last year - we liked it so much, we came back for another birthday this November as well.Reservations made in advance - no problem. Bartender and staff - on task and very personable. Place is on the small-ish side, but if you have a party of 8 (maybe even 10) a long table will fit you all just fine. The play list was awesome last year, and didn't disappoint last weekend either: great mix of 70s + 80s.This is a burger place - at a great price: $10-15/plate. Add some fries and (the best!) fried pickles to share for the table - and you have a phenomenal all-American feast with your friends and family. Yes - a definite "must-stop" place when you are starved, parched, and need a break after the Highline, the Vessel, the mall... and all the people and hoopla in Hudson Yards. Two thumbs up!! Rock on. We were in the area and had just finished with a work related event and were starving.  On our way to find pizza we stumbled over Whitmans. We loved it.  Great menu, very shareable, nice beer and wine menus too.  Great service and very cool decor, but very small restaurant.  We ordered a few different items and the four of us all dug in and shared.  I would come back for sure.  A nice reasonably priced place in the heart of Hudson Yards. Whitman's is a cool burger spot in the east village, right next Tompkins and other good places. The inside area has a upstairs and downstairs area, it's small upstairs but has enough seating for multiple people. This place does get busy, it always has constant orders and the kitchen could get occupied, it took roughly about 30 minutes to receive, I ordered the juicy Lucy burger with fries. It was absolutely delicious and entirely worth it, the burger was cooked perfectly, the cheese is infused inside the meat and it tastes so good. The fries were seasoned well, everything was good. Our Server was nice and friendly, in terms of prices you're looking at around $20, great selection of beer, overall a pleasant experience. More...

My friends and I stumbled upon this burger spot while heading to Thursday kitchen. Maybe it was destined for us to go to Whitman's because Thursday kitchen was packed, we were hungry and was not willing to join that wait list. I told my friends we should just get burgers. Walking in it is small, a bar seating, 2 tables for 2. We thought we might have to sit at the bar but the server directed us a downstairs section. Downstairs there are more seatings and tables. It's still small but I'm sure if you come at the right time, you can seat a party of 8-10 when they combine the tables. We ordered the local beer sausage as starters, it came with a side of spicy brown mustard and caramelized onions. This dish is limited on availability so it's until they sell out for the day. The sausage was good, it had a nice snap to it, not too salty. Pair it with the sweet caramelized onions and mustard and that can be addicting. We ordered the classic burger, Juicy Lucy, and Bluicy burgers. For sides we shared; tater tots, blue cheese fried and onion rings. My friends that had the classic and Juicy Lucy said the burgers were really good. The Juicy Lucy is filled with pimiento cheese! My Bluicy was cooked medium, the way I like it. The Bluicy is filled with blue cheese. My Bluicy burger was really good. The food was good but portion is small. More...

I chose this place because of its proximity to the Vessel and I actually smelled the burgers before I even saw the storefront. I liked the vibe here. My only regret is that I didn't order a burger. Since I'm trying to eat more healthful (tough for someone who loves to eat), I ordered the shaved Brussels sprout salad and a side of grilled chicken. It was OK. The vinegarette could have been tangier and and the feta should have been crumbled instead of cubed. And the chicken was a hockey puck but I have nobody to blame but myself for ordering grilled chicken at a burger joint. In spite of MY bad experience, I am still giving Whitman's a 4 star rating because everyone else in my party were smart and ordered burgers and sweet potato fries and tater tots, local pickles and sausage. And they loved their food. So, I would be willing to go back and am basing my recommendation on how everyone else's food looked and smelled. Decent service. Nice bar and reasonable prices. More...

In a up an coming area of NYC...Whitmans has three or four different locations around the city. The East Village and SOHO to name a few. Haven't tried them yet, but this one was pretty darn good. What caught my eye right off the bat was the Juicy Lucy Burger only $14.00. Two burgers albeit a little small put together with pimento cheese in the middle. Just adding a little heat for your meal. This is a midwestern thing that has worked its way to the Big Apple. By no means is this as big like those that I've had in Saint Paul awhile back. My dining partner went for another popular item called the Hound also $14.00. That one was accompanied with shoe string fries and bacon. We shared an order of onion rings which were very good. Very large and cooked to order. Save room for the warm chocolate chip cookies and milk at the end. Yes I split them in half and dunked them in my glass. Just make sure you have plenty of napkins for your meal. Prices are reasonable for this area of the city. Easy access by the 7 train that stops only a few blocks away at Hudson & 34th Street station. When we arrived, it looked so small and was empty so we actually thought twice about going in.  One of the (very nice) waitresses came out and spoke with us and we decided to try it. We were all glad that we did!  Two of us shared the brussel sprout salad (pretty good) and The Hound burger, the other two shared a turkey burger. The burgers were absolutely delicious; juicy and very flavorful.  The sweet potato fries were also delicious. The chef was so accommodating that he cooked half of the Hound burger to "well done " and the other half to "medium".  The quality of the meat used for the Hound burger was well above par. Came here for a late lunch on Saturday, was pleasantly surprised to find no wait and a pretty relaxed atmosphere given how hectic the Hudson yards area can be on weekends. Not a huge menu, but plenty of out there burger and sandwich options along with a nice selection of craft beers and other drinks. I had the Mama's boy which had pulled chicken, "coffee" bbq sauce, jalapeño slaw and came with the crack kale. The sandwich was solid, chicken was juicy and had a good ratio of meat to slaw so you noticed the jalapeño but it wasn't overwhelming. The bbq sauce was very sweet, if coffee was an ingredient it must not have been used to add any flavor, I certainly didn't notice any hints of coffee flavor. I'm not sure what type of bread was used, but it was very thick and dry, I think the sandwich lends itself much better to a lighter bread. The crack kale was surprisingly the star of the meal. They're flash fried and covered in old bay seasoning. They taste like super light potato chips I can't recommend them enough. Overall, definitely worth checking out.
