My favorite was the onion rings and peach cobbler. The description for the onion rings is true you can't just have one, it's super crispy. The peach cobbler is delicious I've never had any other peach cobbler before so I can't say it was the best I've had. But for the first time having it I would definitely come back for more. Ok so it took me a pretty long time to return for a second experience...really appreciated the classy response to my previous review. This time was awesome. We were craving barbecue and trying to pick our brains for where to go and decided we would give this place a second try. I am so glad we did. The sides each had a distinct flavor and texture. Highly recommend the beans and coleslaw.  The pulled pork and tri-tip were melt in your mouth flavorful and the sauces were mouthwatering. The staff was attentive and made us feel at home. Came here on Friday 10-19 and all I can say is WOW! Their food is top notch. I got their barnyard with spare ribs, tri tip, and brisket. This was by far the best brisket I have ever had. You can taste how fresh it is, and smell it through the restaurant. I got BBQ beans, as recommended by my server, and coleslaw on the side. Beans were so flavorful, with just enough of a kick to them. Coleslaw was creamy, yet crunchy and refreshing at the same time. My friend got the toolbox burger and he said it was very flavorful and juicy! What really made this place amazing was the service. Our server, Camry, was very kind and bubbly, while still being professional. She explained the menu, gave recommendations, and answered all of our questions. On top of this, she seemed to genuinely care about us and our experience, making light and enjoyable conversation with us throughout our meal. We also noticed a man who we assume was the owner, walking around checking on people. You can tell this is a very family oriented restraunt who really cares about their customers. Met my brother there for lunch. Most BBQ restaurants end up being a disappointment. That wasn't the case with When Pigs Fly. Very roomy, friendly staff and excellent BBQ at a fair prices. Good size portions and an excellent choice of side dishes. The Mac and chesese was the best I've ever tasted. As for desert we had the berry cobbler. it was outstanding. Was in the area and decided to try this place out, and boy am I glad I did! We arrived around 8:45 and the closed at 10, so that's always a little questionable when going to places. I hate going within the last hour of closing, but decided to try it out anyway. Plenty of seats and the staff was very friendly and inviting. The menus were easy to read and very straightforward. I ordered the one meat with two sides and my friend ordered 3 meats and 2 sides. We both got sweet tea to drink. The sweet tea was not sweet, but it was still refreshing. The pulled pork was very tender and tasty. The Mac and cheese was AH-MA-ZING! And so were the bbq beans! These are always my go to sides when I eat BBQ and they did not disappoint at all! Izzy, our waitress, was soooo nice! Shout out to her! She gave us samples of the peach cobbler, which was delicious by the way, and always gave us a little dessert to take home! This was my first visit and won't be my last. I loved everything about this place. I had to try tips and spare ribs with the macaroni and cheese which was out of sight! Black folks judge the way a person cooks by the level of their macaroni and cheese and baby this macaroni and cheese passes the test. I also have the garlic mashed potatoes not my favorite but they tasted great for mashed potatoes. Our server her name is Izzy and Izzy took care of us like no other. They're located in the center of Main St.,Vista, CA. There is indoor/outdoor seating. You place your order from the counter, after 5pm a server is available. We both tried the brisket sandwich with baked beans and coleslaw. The brisket was tender with a good portion, baked beans had a nice kick in taste. The slaw was crisp and fresh. Literally our favorite BBQ spot in Southern California. The food is and service are both 100% spot on every single time we go. An absolute treat. I can't remember her name, but the brunette assistant manager is amazing!! Always stopping by to say hi and make sure our food is perfect. In Vista for a week and wanted to try this restaurant for a couple of days and finally on the last day got the opportunity. .."Cambry" like the car as my server responded when we asked her name:)..Why did we ask her name?..Because from the minute we walked in she greeted us with a Big smile and a sincere genuine way. Explained the menu to us...Made suggestions and proceeded to Excell at every phase of customer service and it wasn't just us...We listened as she dealt with other customers and she was just as perfect..We  expressed our satisfaction to her..I own a company and my daughter is head of operation s for Marriott for the last 15 years..She simply said " I would definitely steal her if she was in Washington and here is the shocker she has only been employed 3 weeks!.and by the way we r not related to her in writing this review. We ordered bar b que tips which were excellent...ribs...and tri tip sandwich...Again all excellent with one suggestion..I will get to that later...the sides french fries...crisp and seasoned well..smoked corn tasty...beans were good but wife thought they were somewhat spicey..I tasted them and liked them so that is a selective thing...One persons hot is anothers cold..Having a choice of three bar b que sauces on the table ws a big plus..Good selection of Ipas served cold another plus..So what is the suggestion...and in my mind it's Needed..The tri tip sandwich ...the meat was great the bun it was served on was not...Tri tip needs to be served on a toasted roll..with combo butter/garlic...Instead it was on a bun like you would get on a MacDonald's cheeseburger ..and to top it off it was cold..Yet it was not a deal breaker..We will be back..and I know the owner reads these so Dale I am coming back to try the yri tip hopefully on a crisp toasted season roll...See Firestone grill San Luis Obispo for reference..and Cambry she is a keeper..:) More...

on august 23rd myself and two good friends went to lunch at when pigs fly for lunch ! i had just heard some great things about them the day before ! i had three meats - beef ribs - they looked and tasted amazing !, pork ribs - they too were very tender and tasty as i enjoyed them very much ! the last meat was the house favorite ,brisket ! it looked perfect and tasted amazing as well ! imagine my delight ! three meats and each was heaven ! my sides were bbq beans ! and i loved them , they were perfect ! i also had potatoe salad , it was as good as my wife makes at home !       next i will tell you what my friends said about their meals. the first one ordered a brisket sandwich with baked beans and he agreed with me that the brisket sandwich was delishes and he also agree with me on the bbq beans as he ate everyone !   the last friend ordered three meats and two sides , he had brisket that he said was top rated as being some of the best brisket he has eaten ! he had pork spare ribs  that he rated very good tasting  and very tender ! the last meat he had was pulled pork and he said it was very tender and smoky and he would order everything he had again ! he had bbq beans and coleslaw and said they were both very good !   we were all very pleased with the freshness and taste of all our servings ! each of us are looking forward to coming back next week ! in conclusion , all three of us have decided when pigs fly is are new favorite bbq resturant ! Dude. I love good BBQ. Found it here. I'm born and raised California so I don't know Texas vs St.Louis vs Wherever BBQ styles, but I know what's good. Frickin fabulous girl at the counter. Sorry I forgot her name but we were there today 8/24/19 about 3:30-4. Woulda gave a five star but for the confusion of should we sit or order at the counter? Literally the only non five star. We came here for the first time on a Saturday around 2pm.  There were maybe three tables occupied and a very short line at the cash stand.  During lunch time, you're expected to order at the counter and your food will be delivered.  I think during dinner, it's full table service.We were hungry, so we ordered:  * (2) Big Block Burgers with fries ($14)  * The Barnyard (3 meats, 2 sides & cornbread)  * 16 oz Rose Cider & a CokeThe Big Block burgers say $12 on the menu board, but I was charge $4 more in total for some reason.  I didn't ask why and the receipt shows no additions...so remember to pay attention to your bill.The burgers were good.  We prefer the burgers at The Draft in Oceanside but there are few places that can top those burgers.  The fries are huge steak fries (which I love).The BBQ meat platter was the real show-stopper, though.  The brisket was fantastic and so tender.  The housemade sausage was very good.  The texture is quite different from store-bought sausages.  The pink smoked tri-tip was my favorite, hands down.  Wow, so tender.  This is real BBQ.The restaurant seems to be dog friendly as there were two large dogs at the entrance when we walked in.  Then later, a couple brought in a small white poodle/terrier (not sure which) and sat down at a booth with the pup.  It totally didn't bother us....but for some reason I thought you couldn't bring dogs "inside" restaurant (like you can't smoke inside a restaurant).  Overall, the food was great.  We had a BOGO coupon for the burgers which docked $7 off the tap.  Still, at $60 it's pricier than your standard lunch but this is BBQ (generally not that cheap) and we took home a ton of leftovers.  Also, if you're active military, you get 10% off (does this apply to veterans, too ).One last thing to note:  I went to squeeze some mustard into a plastic cup and the lid of the mustard fell right off (it wasn't screwed on).  So keep that in mind before you get a big yellow splatter on your Sunday church clothes!  (I don't go to church so splatter away...) How is it that this place isn't packed to capacity at absolutely all times? Beef ribs were well seasoned, brisket was delicious, Mac and cheese is cooked in their smoker and is to-freaking-die for. Garlic potatoes are the best in four states. Just pick four, they are. Trust me.They've got three house made sauces, and they're all good, but the sassy one is where it's at. We went for an early dinner (5:30PM) before our show at the Moonlight Amphitheater.  It was not busy yet, so we had plenty of tables to choose from. ambience:  Loved the inside decoration with some old appliance and flying pigs!  The metal tables, wooden frame, and pile of ingredients stocked gave a rustic accent and a farmhouse barnyard feel.  It signified this is the right place for BBQ!service:  Excellent!  We were a 5+ group and didn't arrive at the same time.  Being first timers, the waitress was so patient with our orders.Food:  The meats were juicy and tender!  Delicious!  Tasty appetizer and  sides!  The best onion ring I ever ate!  I ate the last piece of onion ring at the end of our meal.  It still had crisp batter and onion.   The garlic mashed potato was equally on point but not over powered with garlic.  Mac n cheese was cheesy with a thicker cheese crust on top, just the way the kids and I like it!  If we go back to Vista, we will definitely visit the place again.  We need a location in the Sorrento Valley area :-)! We ate here today July 3rd, oh my god it was the best bbq I've ever had, I wish I could of told the cook this (I shared it with the waitress) but whoever is cooking this and coming up with the recipes they are seriously gods gift to mankind, everything was just to perfectly tender and delicious, the bbq sauce could have a excellent lengthy review on its own, but we all loved that the meat came out without any sauce on it, the sauce was on the table for us, ribs and tritium was extra fantastic, what was extra special is we have our older grandmother in town and we went to eat early ( before 3) and they don't do sit down service until after 5,  well they were super nice and did it for her and us anyway, that was super nice

Easily one of the best BBQ places I've been to. I came in with a group of four people on a Saturday night and found the food and staff exceptional. All their meats and sides were excellent. My dad and I strolled in on Saturday night. The place was quiet and service was prompt. The meal was fantastic, the pig candy was tasty, beans were savory and the cobbler was incredibly good.  My tastebuds were on sensory overload.  The staff was happy to answer my questions about how the food was prepared and shared some yummy recipe details.
