A big thank you to Amy. First class customer service. I love shopping local and even more so when I can buy something gently worn. I never felt rushed, discounted or ignored. Amy went out of her way to offer suggestions, bring in other pieces and answer questions. I found a great area rug which will cover up some very old, flattened, cheap, apartment carpet, plus a new/used sofa hide a bed and a delightful oak library table, craftsman style. I've shopped here before and most definitely will return. Plus the connect you with a local delivery service that will also (for a small fee) take away what you no longer want. More...

Good thing I live across the country, or half this store would be coming home with me after every visit. I absolutely love pieces here - midcentury classic without bordering on TOO trendy. They have a mix of vintage pieces and new furniture from local designers, and everything is both curated and showcased beautifully. The showroom is enormous and spans two levels with everything from sofas, tables, and dining sets to accessories and home decor. My husband and I were just browsing and admiring, but the store employees were so helpful checking in with us to make sure we didn't have any questions. Ultimately just a nice place for us to check out and glean inspiration, but if I were local I'd do some serious damage here! More...

And we ordered another couch from these folks- same great service and the couch is perfect. I love the long wall of fabric choices and the super solid final product. The first one we bought still looks great- good stuff from a great place. The people who work there are friendly, knowledgeable and patient- a side benefit is the guys they hire to deliver- hey I live in a second floor condo and no way am I going to horse a sleeper sofa into my flat. So, these folks delivered the first sofa, did a side deal to move from our studio into our new place and just this last week the new sleeper- love them, believe that it's called Smooth Move and What's New love their customers enough to hire them. Great deal all around. Hey, we looked around a bit more, came back and bought the couch. And we arranged to have it delivered, the price for the couch and delivery was fair and the guys who delivered it were great. A nice surprise was the same day call that asked if they could bring it right over since we are close and they had a hole in their schedule- so almost instant gratification, love it. This is such a mecca of good furniture and helpful staff! I love that there are both consignment pieces, new pieces and pieces made locally. Mark went above and beyond spending a ton of time with my husband and I while we were trying to pick out a new couch--our first "grown up" couch. We knew we wanted to buy quality on a reasonable budget and keep our money in the community. I am so glad we didn't buy online. I knew exactly what I was getting and when I was getting it. We got to take color swatches/fabrics home and see them in the space before we bought as well. That was very helpful as I don't have an imagination! Mark also helped my husband and I make decisions since we were indecisive and taking waaaaay too long to come to an agreement. We used the delivery service WNF suggested, and they were timely and professional. They took extreme care with our new baby (couch), which was greatly appreciated. We are extremely satisfied with the quality and look of the couch in our space and get tons of compliments. Since then, I have been back to browse the store for must-haves on occasion and everyone has always been extremely helpful and knowledgeable without being salesman-y (or saleswoman-y). I'd highly recommend supporting this local business. More...

The furniture arrived fully wrapped; they took the wrapping away, moved the pieces to where I wanted, and were grateful to be tipped.  It was delivered the same day!  So nice to support a local small biz, vs. Macy's or Ikea.  No pressure sales, and they receive consigned pieces frequently.  Large inventory.  Parking is tricky, though - my friend and I parked about 8 blocks away, but it was fun to look at new businesses and shops, and get some exercise. Joey also showed me a coffee table, end table set.  I said I needed to be sure and would come back Saturday.  Yes, getting the first sofa Joey showed me, yes, getting the tables he recommended and yes (after making him wander the entire store) getting the rug he originally said would look great.  I am so excited about my new living room set up and Joey made it easy and fun.  Not to mention the great conversations I had with the rest of the staff too!  Natasha (I am sorry if I remembered your name wrong) and also Scott and Mark.  What a great team.  If you need furniture, I would highly recommend What's New!  BTW, this place was a recommendation from a friend, so I am not the only one who thinks this place is awesome!  Thanks Joey, I can't wait to get it all set up! We had a great experience shopping at what's new furniture. Buying a couch for our 1925 home was a bit tricky as many modern couches are too large. After visiting several other shops and having lackluster or downright awful experiences we returned to what's new to get more serious about buying furniture to furnish our living room. Mark was extremely helpful and asked a lot of questions to determine what we were looking for as well as helping inform us about various things to consider and think about. Through the process Mark helped educate us about fabric choices, colors, and other details we had not known to ask or think about . The low pressure overly helpful process is why we felt comfortable taking the time to get exactly what we wanted and we were more than happy to go home do more research and determine what was the right choice for us and our space. Which was actively encouraged rather than any pressure for a sale. We also loved the locally made options so we could support local communities and workers. Now just past 8 months of having our two Ainsworth couches that wonderfully compliment our living room we started out to look for some various rugs to further cozy up our space. Being overwhelmed with the options we decided to head to what's new again and see what they had as well as what insight they could provide. Again, we talked with Mark (who recognized us!) and again he was super helpful asking another round of questions to gauge where we were at and welcome us to the world choices in rugs. We are now doing our homework to determine what will work best for us but we would have been woefully lost without the help with respect to lingo, options and other details to consider. The casual low pressure, friendly, helpful, and informative sales process makes shopping a delight and I typically despise shopping. I definitely recommend what's new to anybody in the market. After looking around the Net including Yelp for the different furniture stores in N/NE Portland, I settled on WNF. I am def interested in ordering a custom sofa and the sofa maker they use in Woodburn, OR (Dan Fredrick Furniture) has a solid reputation and lifetime warranties brought me in but also the Yelp reviews of how great the staff are and also the selection. (I tend to use the 50% rule about negative reviews ... if yelp reviews for a business are less than 50% negative I don't pay much attention to them. Everybody has an off day or moment, and truth is some customers are super picky and hard to please.)When I arrived to the store I met two young salesmen who were so welcoming and down to earth. I came in armed with my research and knew I was after a DFF custom ordered sofa. Scott and Mark answered my questions and pointed me in the right direction. They didn't hover, but were readily available when I needed them. The layout of the store was very manageable with lots of great DFF sofas and chairs available for sale on the spot as well as other brands and also consigned furnishing. The guys explained their tag system that helped me know right away if  a piece I was checking out was made locally or on consignment.  I think the prices were fair, too, for what I was looking at. The selection was my budget and style. Not too fancy, but not shabby either. I want solid made furniture that will last and not break my bank account. WNF provides that.  They also walked me through the easy process of how to choose a custom sofa. Since I already kind of had an idea what I wanted, it didn't take too long for me to decide on the sofa type and fabrics I wanted for my order. Mark and Scott both contributed to my decision process with helpful but not overly helpful suggestions. They are a great team. A custom sofa usually takes 5-6 weeks, and the guys were quick to point out that the signed agreement clearly lets the buyer know that since DFF is a family owned business, sometimes life circumstances beyond anyone's control might delay an order. I am not on a deadline so I am fine with this. If someone was ordering  kinda last minute before out of town relatives show up for the holidays, it would be risky, unless you order way ahead of time to avoid unforeseen delays. But I am not on holiday time. I am on My Time and I trust that my custom made sofa will be worth the wait. I was thoughtful about the fabric and sofa frame choice for my particular household. LOTS of fabric choices from microfiber to faux leather (and real leather  maybe ), in solid colors and also patterned. I had SO MUCH fun with Scott and Mark as I processed out loud with them. If I had been able to, I would have taken them both out for shots to celebrate my sofa!  But alas, I had to scoot on down the road and I'm guessing  their boss probably would not want them to close early to go out drinking with customers. I will be back to scout for pieces to add to my living room reset. I will update my review with a photo when my custom-made-just-for-me sofa is ready, which will probably be around early to mid December. Plenty of time for me to paint the living room before hand, right :) More...

My husband and I walked in with our two toddlers at 8 minutes to closing. We were greeted by 2 friendly people. We said, "We know you're closing in 5 minutes, we will just be a minute. " They were super nice and said that we could take as long as we wanted which was a relief since it takes a long time to get two toddlers out of a car and walk a couple blocks. The furniture is beautiful. It is made in Oregon, which I love. There's a bazillion different fabric and color choices, and I was happy to learn that there are microfiber fabrics that don't look like traditional "imprint of your ass" fabric. I found one sectional that looked modern and classic, yet it was roomy and very comfortable. One of the sales people (who identified himself as the 'web guy') was so helpful. He explained about the materials and fabric, told us that the furniture carries a lifetime warranty. So if the couch cushions slump, just return them and they will replace them. He said the first 3 months, a couch will sustain enough wear to show how it will look for the life of the couch. In other words, after 3 months  you'll know roughly how it will look/wear, and the outside fabric and inside material is made to look and last a long time. They also have lots of consigned furniture, which is reasonably priced. They have several art pieces, some of which look kind of dated, but they are large-scale which is good for big spaces, and makes me wonder if they were consigned from a hotel or similar venue. The website is very helpful if you can look at it first. It shows styles and colors, so when you go to the showroom, you'll quickly know what you're looking at. I hope to convince my husband to purchase a couch here, and then I'll give another review. For now, 5-star service is all I can attest to:) More...
