My wife and I have had several dogs and we've never really trained them and always have had trouble with getting them to come, stay, or behave on walks. Well, those days are coming to an end. We recently hired Dianne from What A Good Dog LA to help us with our 3 dogs and she's been terrific. She is local and in our community which was another nice plus. She works with our dogs one at a time and each of them is different, one is 4 lb puppy, one is a 64lb shepherd, and the other is a 35lb pit bull mix. She showed us that you have to approach the training to each one just a little differently based on their personality, but the concept is the same. One of the biggest issues we had was the dogs would go crazy when someone rang the doorbell. Dianne taught us how to deal with that and although we still have more training to do, they are sooooooo much better behaved now. With practice and time, we should be fine.Of course, her biggest challenge was me and my wife. You know what I'm talking about....usually the dog is not the problem, it's the owner. Well, we're guilty as charged. Dianne taught us not to be mean or angry, but simply, to be firm.Overall, we have gotten a lot out of using Dianne and we highly recommend her. You can find her at whatagooddogla.com or call her at 323.734.9119.Good luck! More...

We started working with Dianne originally to help teach our nine-year-old daughter how to best train her small breed rescue dog, last year. I figured I didn't need to participate because I've had dogs my entire life especially giant breeds, but I quickly realized how much I didn't know, and all the mixed signals we were giving the dog.Dianne is such an intelligent and interesting person, and really knows her stuff when it comes to dogs. She showed us the right way to do the training and she demonstrated it and did it herself and then showed us how to reinforce and continue to practice between sessions. She has the patience of a saint when it comes to training animals, more than I would ever have, and I was so glad to have her do the bulk of the work and then we just had to keep things in place going forward. She's also very flexible with scheduling, and generous with her time and expertise, and she has a great sense of humor.Highly recommended Dianne and she really cares about animals! She was responsible for getting the law changed so that dogs could not be left chained outside for an extended period of time like they sadly used to be able to be. Give her a call and have a discussion about your particular situation. You won't regret it. More...

Dianne is the best dog trainer and is easily up there with Caeser Milan and other famous dog trainers but actually reasonably priced! My boyfriend calls her the dog whisperer. I have a sheltie who is 10 years old and she barked like crazy inside our home, so much so that my boyfriend wouldn't let her stay with us because it hindered his work and she stayed with my sister in koreatown. My sister didn't want to be the one to watch her all the time so I told my boyfriend and my sister I was going to find a trainer to help her barking and EVERYONE was so skeptical, they did not believe that a 10 year old dog could change her ways. But then I called Dianne and was convinced by her harm-free training (many of the other trainers I called suggested bark collars and I don't believe in them and Dianne doesn't use them) and frank honesty that it was worth a try. Flash-forward to about six weeks later now and Stella is a brand new dog. She is less anxious, she rarely barks inside, and she has learnt new commands. On top of everything, Stella used to snap and people were afraid to touch her but I was so hopeless about this I had pretty much given up thinking she would ever stop snapping. Dianne has changed that too!! It's been AMAZING and my life is so much better. She used to never even let my boyfriend touch her without snapping at him and now they cuddle all the time. I am so happy I went with Dianne and took a chance that Stella could be trained. She is so much happier, we are so much happier, and it's definitely been one of the best decisions of my life. It takes effort on your part but it's 100% worth it. I HIGHLY recommend What A Good Dog and if you're on the fence or looking at other dog trainers or even feel like there's no point and your dog can't change, that's totally wrong; give Dianne a chance and you won't regret it! My dog and I had such an amazing experience with Dianne, I can't say enough for her and her services. I am so thankful that she helped trained my aggressive 90 pound German Shepard/Rottweiler. I was at a complete lost with Phoebe (my dog,) I felt like a prisoner in our own home because I couldn't take her out without fearing she'll bite someone or get out of control with other dogs. Dianne gave me the tools I needed to correctly communicate with Phoebe, helping me to understand her needs. We saw an instant switch in her obedience and listening after just one session with Dianne. Everyday a few minutes a day I would trained with Phoebe and our connection grew and I was finally able to take her for walks and confidently bring her around people and dogs without her getting out of control. My dog recently got out by accident and people were outside my fence walking their dogs and I feared she would attack, but to my surprise as soon as I yelled her name Phoebe ran back inside with no hesitation paying no mind to anyone but me. My relationship with my dog has improved so much and all because of Dianne. I love Dianne's philosophy with owner and dog's relationship. No shock collars and no difficult or intensive training just proper communication and leadership from the owner. That is where I lacked as an owner and Dianne made it clear that I needed to be trained how to properly train my dog. More...

We had a great experience with Dianne, who trained our 9-month old shelter dog. We saw almost immediate results with our dog, and now a couple of months later, he's a much more obedient dog. Her rates are very reasonable, and she's very communicative and easy to reach. Definitely recommend! More...

Diane helped my boyfriend and I with our new Australian Shepherd puppy. From the first session with Diane, we knew we were in good hands. She has a strong ability to teach the owners more than the pets. Both my boyfriend and I had to learn how to talk to and interact with our dog (it is more complicated than it sounds) and she showed us how to do it. We are grateful for all of her help and recommend her to anyone else with a pup! More...

My wife and I hired Diane to work with our one-year old Bijon named Oliver.  He was having difficulty with house breaking, listening and mild aggressiveness.  We had six sessions with Diane, which focused on bonding with our dog; correcting our mistakes and specific training exercises, amongst other things. We learned skills from Diane which are helping us to not only have a better relationship with our dog, but also improve Oliver's problem areas. Oliver made great improvement after the six sessions as evidenced by our stronger bond with him, a reduction in aggressiveness and pretty much resolving his house breaking issue. Having a puppy is a work in progress, but Diane will teach you and your dog the tools necessary to accomplish your goals.  I will recommend Diane and her services  without any reservations. More...

I just want to start this review off by saying that Diane offered me a discount just because we happen to live nearby, but I paid her the full amount she was so darn good with my dog. First she sits down with you to talk about your routine with your dog and anything you want to work on.  When she came to my house, we spent a good hour talking about her method and what we were going to review.  No frills or fluff with this lady, but she does mean business.  She was no nonsense with explaining what I needed to do to condition leash etiquette with my dog.  No treats, clickers, or crazy training methods; just me, my dog and my leadership skills were what she addressed.  The next thing we did was practice in my yard and she paid attention to every little move i made and made corrections.  She helped me improve how i speak to my dog, hold the leash, guide him, everything.  I didn't realize how much there was to it until Diane watched me.  Then at the end of this portion, she surprised me by saying she brought her dog to help train mine!  I look across the street and there is her cute little dog, sleeping contently in the front seat of her van with the windows rolled all the way down. She then took me and my dog to the street and refined each little skill we built upon.  Another problem my dog had was excessive barking at dogs.  I saw what she did to correct my dog and even after just one day, my dog isn't barking.  Truly amazing how much changed with JUST ONE training session. At the very end, she gave me a dog training homework to summarize the most important parts of what I learned.  She also made herself available for questions later down the road.  You can't get much better service than that! When she told me I would see improvement instantly, i thought it was too good to be true.  But lo and behold, instant improvement was seen.  My only regret is that I didn't find a trainer like her earlier when I rescued my dog. Dianne is fantastic.  She takes care of the hard part - teaching your dog how to respond to the commands - while teaching you how to repeat and reinforce the training at home. It was amazing to watch our puppy respond quickly to the commands and treat-based training. At the end of the hour, our dog knew exactly what was expected of him while my daughter and I knew exactly what was expected of us to work with him a few minutes each day.Dianne is compassionate and helped guide us through all sorts of other questions we had during our first months of working with her. I have had the most positive experience with Dianne and her training skills. I have been to many classes with previous dogs, and this one is definitely the best. Dianne is truly a skilled trainer. Her approach is loving and quiet. when we get there my dog goes crazy upon seeing her. She started helping Lulu from day one. She is also great at her puppy playgroup classes which help the dogs learn to play.  Great lady.Susan Yates More...

Dianne is truly a dog whisperer. Even just upon encountering her presence, our Juniper (a headstrong 3 month-old pitt mix at the time of her first training) settled down considerably. Diane trained my boyfriend and I as owners even more than the dog, teaching us how to use vocal tone and body language to assert authority over a naturally dominant dog. We also learned how to calm some of that crazy puppy energy, stop nipping and biting altogether (a HUGE achievement), significantly reduce accidents (she went from several accidents a day to being completely potty trained in 6 weeks), and how to focus June during times of overstimulation. We are still working on manners, but Diane's training made a remarkable impact on our puppy's overall behavior - harnessing her personality from that of a tiny rambunctious creature who -- though adorable -- was frankly a bit out of control to a really sweet, funny dog who is a pleasure to be around.I would recommend her as a trainer to any dog or human :)Thank you Diane!!
