Best bbq ... burgers ....brew. Sorry it took us so long to find this local gem. Been in la Mesa 4 years and shopped the local stores weekly. Why it took us so long I'll never know. Great Food. Had the Beef Ribs, fantastic. Homemade mac n cheese. One of the Daily special was Lobster BLT and it was awesome. We had a large party of 10 and Zack was our server. My review is for the sandos, the burgers, and OMG the loaded tots and garlic fries.  Never set food in the place, so can't comment on service, but everything I've ordered over the last few mo has been blissful- Garlic Fries, West Coast Tater Tots (Holy F! !), Papa's Patty Melt, WC Beer Cheese Melt (extremely rich), Crispy Chin Wasabi Salad (chicken was sooOOOooo good), Spicy Pickle (da Bomb), Cashew Chxn Sando, Jalapeño Chxn Melt, & the WC Reuben Sando.Let's talk a moment about the West Coast Reuben Sandwich.  Bc I LOATHE Brussel Sprouts, but this culinary business was insane.  SO good.  I can only imagine the reaction of someone who actually likes brussel sprouts.  A must try.Oh..and my signature plug- the Ranch is on point, a must for any restaurant that I give 5 stars to. Great food and great beer....And now, flan! See the photo. The service is also so good here that when you've been there a few times they will always know you by name. Your own personal Cheers. Just read another elites lreview saying this place is an old school throwback and yeah I could see his point and it has been here for awhile but the newest owner has added something special. The great craft beers! The owners of O'Brien's and Nickel brewery in Julian took over this barbecue place a few years back and now it's much  better and busier. Even after the revamp, I think it could be re re vamped in terms of decor. Maybe get a longer bar and nicer tables outside. Overall what I have eaten here has been very good though, but the real deal is the beer selection and their specials on it are pretty good as well. Prices are affordable, so maybe if they sunk some money into it, they would have to raise prices, so I change my mind, decor is just fine. Let's not get carried away. More...

Stopped by for an impromptu lunch with friends. Very excited by the menu, beer list, and fact that they offered coke (I swear everywhere has Pepsi now). Ambiance is lacking but not sure what options they have with a Jack In the Box right in front of them. Service was also lacking for a Saturday lunch crowd - seemed like it wouldn't be a problem but it got busy quick and we waited over 30 mins for our order to be taken. Not a problem for a leisurely lunch but we had a toddler and baby with us so definitely on a timeline. The waitress did stop by to grab a kid menu order which thankfully kept our toddler occupied, but would have appreciated being able to order for all of us too. When the food arrived it was delicious, we ordered table tots, prime rib dip and crispy ranch chicken sandwich - all delicious, loved the house made creamy horseradish with the dip. West Coast is a regular for my family. Super friendly staff, good prices, great pulled pork. I also love their Cobb salad, it's huge and loaded with all the good stuff (ask for the spicy avocado dressing - it's awesome! good homemade ranch too, if that's more your style). The mac n' cheese is our favorite in San Diego! Large beer selection and if you're unsure, they always offer to let you sample a couple before making your decision. Very casual, laid-back atmosphere. Second time there-this time for lunch. Four of us. Waitress came over and gave us the lunch specials-took our orders w/o writing anything down-got to love that! ! Boys had pull pork sandwich-fries and I had the burger-fries. Everyone was very satisfied with their sandwich and of course drinks! Good crowd inside and had seats outside. Nice atmosphere overall! We found West Coast BBQ & Brew by chance. We're at the Urgent Care next door and could smell the BBQ so we had to go. I got the french dip sandwich and my wife got the pulled pork. My sandwich had some extremely tender beef with a great smokey flavor that didn't overwhelm the beef taste. I had a small bite of the pork. It was good but not as good as my own smoked pork I do at home. It had a great craft beer selection. The waitress was awesome. The place had a great neighbor friendly vibe.
