STAY AWAY FROM WEB AIKA! Our dealings with WebAika have been an absolute nightmare. They are unreliable, unprofessional, and incredibly irresponsible.
We initially hired them for a website design project in September 2022, with a promise of a completed website within two months, backed by a $10,000 upfront payment. Our CEO had diligently prepared all the content, expecting WebAika to handle the graphic design and programming. We also ordered some printing products from them.
From the very start, they missed deadlines consistently, offering a litany of excuses ranging from personal issues to health problems. The situation took a dire turn when, after numerous follow-up emails, they casually mentioned in March 2023 that our project was no longer their priority, citing other projects ahead of ours. This lack of transparency was deeply concerning, and we decided to terminate our collaboration at that point.
Adding insult to injury, we never received a proper invoice or receipt for our upfront payment. Upon expressing our concerns, they sent us a couple of invoices, both riddled with errors such as incorrect names, addresses, and phone numbers. The invoices are even from another company. They also claimed we owed them money. To make matters worse, they arbitrarily added a 13% HST charge, increasing our bill by $1,000 ($3,514.80 plus HST to $4,971.72), all without providing an HST number on the invoice.
We requested that they rectify these issues and provide a proper invoice in accordance with CRA requirements, complete with an HST number, detailed descriptions, payment terms, and accurate company information. Shockingly, they refused and escalated the matter to a collection agency, revealing questionable accounting practices.
While we were more than willing to settle the outstanding balance, they preferred sending us to collections instead of issuing a straightforward invoice and correcting the HST amount. Notably, the collection agency promptly rectified the HST calculation error ($3,514.80 plus HST), highlighting WebAika's lack of professionalism.
We anticipate seeing WebAika in court, as it seems to be our only chance to obtain the proper invoice and a receipt for our $10,000 payment. In the meantime, we have reported this issue to the CRA and enlisted another company to rectify the multitude of errors left by WebAika on our website, including code and link issues.
In summary, our experience with WebAika serves as a cautionary tale. They consistently missed deadlines, prioritized other projects over ours, failed to provide proper invoices, and displayed questionable accounting practices. We strongly advise others to exercise extreme caution and scrutinize invoices from this company.
We hope that sharing our experience will prevent others from falling victim to similar issues in the future.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
In the initial conversation our Customer Service team collects information from the customer to formulate a plan of action. Questions that may arise during this discussion may include but not be limited to the following:

Describe your creative process.
The steps of website creation are subsequently handled by three departments: Customer Service, Design, and Programming. Generally the procedure has the following structure:
1. Collection of information: Our Customer Service team collects information for the future website from the customer including page content, design ideas, photos, etc. Additional online research by the Customer Service team is available if necessary.
2. Package Deployment: Programming team begins to deploy the technical package of the website in preparation to the further steps. This process may include but not be limited to deployment of the Content Management System (CMS); Registration of the Domain Name; Set up of SQL Databases; Email packages; Installation of Additional Modules selected by the customer; etc.
3. Design: At the same time our Design Department formulates a website design which is thoroughly discussed with the customer along the way. Changes are made along the process and the final design in approved.
4. Content Approval: Customer Service department works with the customer to confirm the content of each page of the website. Changes are made and the process is refined until the final results are approved by the customer.
5. Content Deployment: Customer Service and Design Departments submit the approved content to the Programming Department of further deployment.
6. Final content is deployed and the website is thoroughly tested across several platforms (desktop browsers, mobile browsers).
7. The complete website is presented to the customer and final adjustments are made if necessary.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
The following is needed from the customer to begin the creative process:
1. Deposit which is discussed with the Customer Service in the initial conversation.
2. Any existing collateral (content, photos, etc).
