I just got my puppy on Friday ( Today is Monday, November 18, 2019 ). We are very much in love with this one. She is 4 months old, and she already knows the rules of the house ( Amazing for a puppy her age ), and is almost scary smart. I know that has nothing to do with the shelter, but it does say something about their ability to match this puppy with her "furever" home. The facility it such a happy and exiting place, with great environment, clean facilities, and amazingly helpful staff. The dogs are well groomed, well fed, and loved by the employees/volunteers, who do a great job helping families find the latest addition to their homes. Everyone is so friendly, caring and patient with the pups! I was looking for my dog 1 1/2 years ago and “interviewed” like 10 pups. We got our new baby at Wayside Waifs recently and he’s the absolutely sweetest! The staff was all SO friendly, kind, gave great advice, shared laughs, and made the experience super easy and fun! We learned every little thing about our new little guy, and a lot of tips and tricks to bring him in to our home with our other pets. My experiences while old and dated, were very good here. We adopted in 2011, 2014, and 2015 and while each experience was different each one was just as great. Our oldest, Kamiko, was the best family dog we ever had and he had a great life with us until we lost him to cancer last year. Our experience with the staff and seeing their excitement and joy at him finding a home in us is what brought us back to adopt his sister Belle (formerly known as Pancake) in 2014 and then Venus (formerly known as Minnie) in 2015. I no longer live in KC, but I still support and tell people I know in KC about wayside. Without them I we never would have found our new best friends and family members, let them help you find your new best friend! More...

Our last 3 family pets have all come from here at wayside, and each one has been a different but great experience. The people here care about these animals and do everything they possibly can for them and their passion and hardworking shine through. Our oldest waif passed away last year, but I can still remember when we adopted him in 2011 the excitment the workers expressed in seeing him find his home in us. Without wayside we'd have never found him. Their passion and love for animals is what brought us back in 2014 when we adopted his sister Belle (formerly known as Pancake) and then Venus (formerly known as Minnie) a few months later in 2015. I have adopted three different dogs from Wayside Waifs and never been deceived or disappointed. First one was only 24 hours since they did not know how sick he was. The second one I had for 12 years till she passed away recently from an infection that cause her autoimmune system to attack her red blood cells. And now on my third, 4 1/2 years young and is a doll. Would never get one from a puppy mill. I love the way Wayside Waifs process the adoptions, and now they have someone who checks up on the adoptions within a week. I'm so thankful for Wayside Waifs ..I lost my best friend in July...I didn't think I would ever find another even close to her. ..But, Guess what I did When I first met Kiwi I thought she had a lot of distrust for people and seperation anxiety ( scared) My daughter was very persistent about me giving Kiwi a chance and I'm so glad I did..Kiwi is the perfect dog...She is a added bonus to our family and we love her so much..Not to mention beautiful and very smart.So don't give up on a dog in the shelter when they are just wanting a forever home. The staff was really nice and was very patient with everyone that was in there. When you adopt a dog they will read you there Bio so you can be more familiar with what you are getting as well as they make sure they’re shots are up to date. We just lost our dog terrier mix a few weeks ago. and there pet memorial was great from the time I called Rachel to picking our sweet girl up. was wonderful customer service experience. and would love to thank her for taking care of our baby girl rocky. she did an amazing job. on the other hand we went to look at some doggies they had for adoption for our son. filled out the paperwork about 7:00pm and went to look at a few found some we wanted to see and went back up to ask and about this time its 7:15- 7:20pm so not that long. we was approached by the worker and said they were not allowed to show dogs after 7:30pm because people do spend a little time when they are looking at animals and that's completely understandable and I know they want to go home to there family just as well but. where I'm trying to get at is .it was even 7:30pm yet and they still refused us. I just wish they would of explained that before we had to fill out the paperwork and went back and fell in love with some of the dogs they had we couldn't even see that night. but I am very SATISFIED with the PET MEMORIAL thank you for everything!! We thoroughly enjoyed our adoption process at Wayside Waifs! We actually visited 3 different times before taking our dog home! Adopting a dog is exciting but can be a little nerve wrecking. It’s been about two weeks since we picked up Millie for a slumber paw-ty and a week since we adopted her! We knew the day we brought her home that we would be adopting her. She’s such a good fit with out family and the kids and Wayside Waifs was so helpful when it came to us deciding what we wanted to do in the beginning, helping us with the slumber Paw-ty and sending us with what she needed and making the adoption process so easy. Great experience. Everyone is friendly and answers all your questions. We met with our puppy twice, and staff had a lot of information ready to tell me. Big open rooms to play and meet in. Our adoption counselor was GREAT! She was so nice and answered any questions and took the time to help us. She even called to follow up when we put a hold on the dog. It did take a while to get the adoption going and paper work, but it was saturday mid day, so it was to be expected. Clean, professional and overall great place! Wayside Waifs was very compassionate, informative and caring when it came time for our dogs, Babe and Cecil to cross the Rainbow Bridge. They have a small family room area were we were able to say goodbye to our dear dogs. The staff were very kind and explained everything to us. They have a picture of our dear dogs on their memorial wall. They returned our pets ashes in a beautifully carved box. We then received a sympathy card from the staff.
