Our first time staying at the Mayton Inn! To start, the hotel is gorgeous and pure luxury. The bartenders are bar far the best we've come across in the triangle! Favorite drinks- Old Fashioned and Cherry Cordial. WOW! Our server for dinner was very polite and took good care of us, however overall the food wasn't anything I'd rave over. It was great, no question about that, but over the top fit for a foodie? Nah. We will be back though and I can't wait! More...

We went for Sunday brunch and it did not disappoint. We had heard good things about the Verandah but with two small kids, we didn't know if it was necessarily kid friendly. The kids were away for the morning so we took the opportunity to check it out. We made a reservation for 10:45 but arrived at 10:30 and were seated immediately.  After our beverages were poured (hot tea and coffee) we ordered our entrees - fish tacos (I know, an unusual order for brunch but it was from the bar menu) and the chicken tostada. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic! The tostada had so much flavor and the fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had. Hands down, one of the best tasting brunches I've had in a long time. We will definitely be back and will likely become regulars! More...

Just wow!! No wait time on a mid-day Saturday for brunch.  Really had a hard time deciding what to eat because the menu spoke volumes to my appetite.  The ambiance is real chill.  Initially, it felt like you need to come with at least a sports coat and you'd think this place is pricey, but it's super affordable.  I ended up ordering the chicken tostada, my wife ordered the chicken and waffle and my daughter had the cremé brûlée french toast.  For the appetizer we had the Parmesan French fries and right after the first bite of the first fry, the entrees followed.  The food took maybe 10 minutes (plus or minus). It took less time to completely consume our food because it tasted that good.  The chicken tostada, was delicious from the first bite.  The tortilla stayed crunchy to the last bite, that's what surprised me the most.  I took my time eating it on purpose just to see how long it would take till it got soggy.  The flavor on the chicken was consistent in every bite as well.  I also loved that there wasn't an overwhelming amount of beans!  You can taste every ingredient on the tostada and see how they work together in every bite.As you can see, I'm still raving about this place and recommending it to family and friends.  Especially because I know that I will be back.  Next up, chicken and waffles. This was such a cute place. I was initially skeptical since it was inside a hotel. Parking is insane; however, they offer complimentary valet parking. That was incredibly helpful. We came for my friends 50th birthday. Lots of room for large groups. I ordered a Bloody Mary, it was made perfectly!! The rift amount of spicy. I ordered their frittata of the day, which was asparagus, ham & mushroom. It seems a tad overcooked and it was cold. The side salad was good. I also got an order of the truffle fries. I attended a bridal shower brunch in the private space here on a Sunday afternoon. I was pleased with my experience and would definitely recommend planning an event here or just coming for brunch on a random Sunday. I chose to park my own car, but they did have valet available which was nice. The establishment is quaint and inviting! When I arrived the event space wasn't ready so I sat to wait in the waiting area that was so cute! Once the space was ready we all gathered in the private area and it was beautiful! The staff was friendly and inviting and eager to help. We did have to go to the bar to order alcoholic beverages, but it wasn't an inconvenience. I had a Mayton Mimosa and I must say...DELICIOUS and STRONG, but it didn't taste strong. I only had 1 since I was driving, but next time I'll get a DD because these are amazing and only $8!!We had a buffet with all the brunch favorites: scrambled eggs, stone ground grits, biscuits, country ham, bacon, sausage gravy, pimento cheese, and various jams & butter for the biscuits. It was all delicious!!! I was pleased with the food options and the flavor. The private space was large and elegant and fit with the theme of the bridal shower, a fancy hat tea party theme. We had breakfast here after spending the night at the Mayton Inn. Food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Plus everything was surprisingly reasonable pricewise for a hotel restaurant. My  waffle was hot, fresh and topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries. The yogurt parfait included the same fruit combo along with delicious housemade granola. My wife loved it. The breakfast bowl was comprised of rice, black beans, red onions, avocado, spinach and chicken sausage. My only complaint was that there were just a few pieces of dark avocado. The poached eggs were perfectly prepared and piping hot.The only real negatives were a less than stellar 92 sanitation score and a noisy business gathering in the room next door that was impossible to ignore. Overall though they serve up a pretty solid breakfast. It's not quite four star, more like a 3.75, but close enough that I can justify the round up. More...

They bend over backwards to serve us. The servers are all very knowledgeable about the entire menu, wine and beer included. The entire staff attends to every need, and some even engage our toddler. My five-year-old wanted grilled cheese, which wasn't on the kids menu. I read the kids menu to him again, and a server overheard and said that they could easily make him a grilled cheese if he wanted. Look, it sucks going to restaurants with kids. I try not to. That day was the day I found out about the new law in NC that FINALLY recognized brunch and allowing people to consume alcoholic beverages before noon. My mom had supposedly requested a quiet area to dine and though she acted "surprised" that we ended up in a private room, we got a whole room to ourselves. That was different. Probably not necessary but the fact that they were able to accommodate this ridiculous request (love her though), was AWESOME! I ordered the steak and eggs that was just okay. It was good, but nothing to necessarily rave about. For drinks, we had the Mayton Mimosa(that had some vodka in it) and got a pitcher to share which was delicious. Overall, the food was nicely prepared.  One person was pleased with her steak tartare, the second had a fried chicken salad which was incredibly good (she gave us all a taste.  I ordered the steak, which came with fries.  I wanted some vegetables so ordered a "side" of Brussels sprouts with my meal.  When the order arrived, I was presented with a large bowl of Brussel sprouts.  I asked the waitress whether all the sides were so large.  She responded that because I already had a side of fries, I couldn't order another side (marked as $2, I think), so she brought me the $8 bowl - that maybe she should have mentioned that to me ahead of time. Because I didn't want to make my friends uncomfortable, I didn't make an issue of it, but was quite unhappy.Back to the food... the fries were just right, the fried Brussels spouts were as well, the steak was not medium as ordered but tough and over cooked.Coffee was not hot.The food that was so good (most of it) was enough that I would give the Verandah another go. I too am surprised by the less than stellar reviews. I was somewhat hesitant to make Father's Day brunch reservations due to some of the reviews. However, I'm glad I did go ahead and make reservations. Perhaps it's hit or miss and we happened to be there on a "hit." Although we parked on the street when we arrived, there did appear to be complimentary valet at the entrance. We were kindly greeted in the lobby and given directions to Verandah, which was straight down the hallway. The restaurant does open to the rest of the hotel and it feels a little bit like you're invading the hotel as a guest, but it has kind of an upscale fancy feel to it. Once you are seated, it feels a little less awkward. For apparel, I saw everything from jeans to dresses and heels, so I think just about anything would be acceptable clothing-wise. We were greeted right away and seated after our table was cleaned. Our waiter was super friendly and on top of things. I ordered the Southern Benedict. Super yummy. Served on some light biscuits with ham, collard greens and topped with eggs and a tangy Hollandaise sauce. The Hollandaise sauce made this dish! The serving size included 2 biscuits/eggs and I felt this serving size was a tad small. Three biscuits/eggs would have been a better serving size for the price and I would have left very satisfied instead of feeling like I needed to grab a snack when I headed home. It was 11am and I hadn't eaten all day, so it could have been due to my hunger that I was left wanting more.My husband celebrated Father's Day with the fish tacos and the Pork Montadas. He enjoyed both. The Pork Montadas seemed to be a much larger portion than the rest of our meals. Our daughter ordered the steak and eggs. She wasn't about to share, so I didn't try it, but the steak looked really good! Again, a bit smaller on the serving size. I'll start by saying I am a big Mayton Inn fan! I think the hotel and restaurant are beautiful and so well decorated. On my most recent visit the service left a lot to be desired, like a lot. I was disappointed because that is not the norm I have seen here, hence the four stars overall. We were a large group for brunch and the waitress was not happy we moved the tables together even though the host told us we could. With a group of 12 we want to sit next to each other and not be at different tables. She acted like it would be too hard for her to serve us our food without reaching over, but it was 100% fine and not a problem at all. Tip was included so I don't know if that had anything to do with the service. We had asked for more cream for coffee and she basically said no there was another cream, even when I said that one was empty. Just felt like we were bothering her with any requests we had. She also brought the checks out while some of us were still eating. Nothing makes you feel rushed than getting your check on your side plate. Everyone really enjoyed their brunch items. I ordered the creme brûlée french toast and it was tasty, but the center was a bit soggy. I understand it's hard not to get the middle soggy when you make french toast, but maybe if they used thicker bread it would have solved the problem. The biscuits and gravy were a big hit as well as the Southern Benedict. The coffee was awesome, our group guessed they may use Counter Culture. The brunch menu could be a bit larger, maybe some more basic breakfasts like an egg plate or things along those lines. More...

Located inside Mayton Inn in downtown Cary. The ambiance is elegant. There are not many places like this in Cary. You get an elegant impression from the start when entering through the hotel entrance. You pass the bar on your way to the dining area and there is a library/lounge part next to it. The dining room has lots of windows to the side, so lot of light coming in. There is a patio outside, which is quite spacious. I like the design of the tables and chairs. The floors were very dirty though, how staff could miss to see that was surprising. Useless detail shared here: I heard someone complain behind us about the salt and peppar shakers not being fancy enough and that details matter. What?! The staff responded by saying that "we are Southern Casual and proud of it" lol.We went for brunch which is served until 2.30. The prices are reasonable. Average around 12 dollars per dish. The Chicken & Waffles were good, the batter crisp on the chicken was just right, not too thick or oily, with just enough amount of the honey syrup drizzle. The waffle was light. But I didn't notice the whipped butter. The Shrimp & Grits with Eggs was OK, not the best we have had. Not bad, just made different. It had a lot of excess liquid, was not very creamy. The grits were not completely ground. So gritty grits, if that makes sense. It was more like a shrimp dish in a thin sauce with a side of grits. The smoked tomatoes and the shiitake mushrooms were good. But it was mainly just garnish and it needed more quantity. Don't think we would order it again. Also, they forgot to serve the egg. But very satisfactorily amended the bill for us.The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Plenty of hot water refills for our teas. Mimosas are 8 dollars and cocktails are 10-12 dollars. The restrooms were clean and I like that they have those type of paper towels that are soft, as opposed to the regular hard ones. Mayton Inn has complimentary valet parking. Short version: I'd go with 4.5 stars for the Sunday Brunch at Verandah. Nice restaurant atmosphere where you can dress up or down either way, excellent food choices, and good service. I am a fan!The Deets:Always on that quest for a great Sunday brunch venue, we gave Verandah in the Mayton Inn on Academy Street in Cary a try this past weekend. The look and atmosphere itself is very nice, entering almost in a study/library type area and then going into a very open and light filled dining room beyond the greeting desk. The impression is very polished and grand, and even elegant but then again you can come as you are as well it seems...it handles both perfectly. The only thing about the open window filled area is that if facing the outside along the edge seats, the sunshine can be a bit intense (as it was in my case, trying to elude the direct glare and heat). Our server was on top of things and was upbeat, no complaints about service on this visit. I started with a Mayton Mimosa (vodka, prosecco, pineapple juice, orange juice) and it was a great refreshing way to start the day off with a bit of coffee served as well. I opted for the Two Eggs Breakfast Plate (2 eggs, bacon or sausage links, hash brown, sourdough toast), keeping it simple while Chris M. went with the Southern Benedict (poached eggs and biscuits, with smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and hollandaise) and we both decided to share Caramelized Apple Pancakes. We thought all of our dishes were satisfying and great tasting, no disappointments. I have to say the pancakes were a real standout, yum! My wife and I actually went here for a Yelp event. We were so hungry we opted to eat dinner. Everything on the menu looked pretty good but neither of us had tried frog legs before so we decided to be adventurous. The dish came out and looked amazing. The fried legs were on a mound of potatoes, corn and chopped smoked sausage. The legs were very crunchy and just like the reputation for frog legs tasted like chicken. The juiciest chicken you could ever have. My only complaint is that there were only two frog legs. I felt that was a little stingy for $12. They should advertise it as one frog's legs or add more of them to the dish. Next we tried the flame grilled arugula salad. This looked just as good as it tasted, FANTASTIC! The arugula was singed and covered with pickled onions a smoky tomato vinaigrette and goat cheese. I could have eaten 3 helpings of just this salad. It was exquisite and the dressing was very creamy and delicious. For the main course we had pork chops for two. These were two HUGE chops cooked perfectly on a bed of cabbage, celery root and radishes. Probably the best pork chops I've ever had. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The vegetables underneath had soaked up the juices and seasoning from the chops. They were great as well. My wife ended the meal with a caramel salt cheesecake that she devoured. The Verandah at the Maytonn Inn is a perfect place for a date night. The prices are very reasonable and the ambiance is fancy but not formal.  The service was outstanding. We definitely will be back.
