Our first time staying at the Mayton Inn! To start, the hotel is gorgeous and pure luxury. The bartenders are bar far the best we've come across in the triangle! Favorite drinks- Old Fashioned and Cherry Cordial. WOW! Our server for dinner was very polite and took good care of us, however overall the food wasn't anything I'd rave over. It was great, no question about that, but over the top fit for a foodie? Nah. We will be back though and I can't wait! More...

Delicious chicken tinga breakfast! The mimosa pitcher was overpriced for what it was, but it still merits a mention as it was good.

We went for Sunday brunch and it did not disappoint. We had heard good things about the Verandah but with two small kids, we didn't know if it was necessarily kid friendly. The kids were away for the morning so we took the opportunity to check it out. We made a reservation for 10:45 but arrived at 10:30 and were seated immediately.  After our beverages were poured (hot tea and coffee) we ordered our entrees - fish tacos (I know, an unusual order for brunch but it was from the bar menu) and the chicken tostada. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic! The tostada had so much flavor and the fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had. Hands down, one of the best tasting brunches I've had in a long time. We will definitely be back and will likely become regulars! More...

Just wow!! No wait time on a mid-day Saturday for brunch.  Really had a hard time deciding what to eat because the menu spoke volumes to my appetite.  The ambiance is real chill.  Initially, it felt like you need to come with at least a sports coat and you'd think this place is pricey, but it's super affordable.  I ended up ordering the chicken tostada, my wife ordered the chicken and waffle and my daughter had the cremé brûlée french toast.  For the appetizer we had the Parmesan French fries and right after the first bite of the first fry, the entrees followed.  The food took maybe 10 minutes (plus or minus). It took less time to completely consume our food because it tasted that good.  The chicken tostada, was delicious from the first bite.  The tortilla stayed crunchy to the last bite, that's what surprised me the most.  I took my time eating it on purpose just to see how long it would take till it got soggy.  The flavor on the chicken was consistent in every bite as well.  I also loved that there wasn't an overwhelming amount of beans!  You can taste every ingredient on the tostada and see how they work together in every bite.As you can see, I'm still raving about this place and recommending it to family and friends.  Especially because I know that I will be back.  Next up, chicken and waffles. This was such a cute place. I was initially skeptical since it was inside a hotel. Parking is insane; however, they offer complimentary valet parking. That was incredibly helpful. We came for my friends 50th birthday. Lots of room for large groups. I ordered a Bloody Mary, it was made perfectly!! The rift amount of spicy. I ordered their frittata of the day, which was asparagus, ham & mushroom. It seems a tad overcooked and it was cold. The side salad was good. I also got an order of the truffle fries. Those were awesome! If I ever go back, I'd skip the gfs and get something from the bar menu. More...

Loved that this restaurant is situated in the only boutique hotel in Cary, NC. Very unique but homey vibes. The staff was friendly and attentive. I order the Beet It Up cocktail, catch of the day (Trigger fish over grilled corn risotto and heirloom tomatoes) along with a house salad. Everything was delicious. We had a fairly large group (about 14) and they were able to make sure everyone was served at the same time with the right dish and cooked perfectly. If you're looking for a comfortable dining experience with an upscale menu, I'd recommend giving it a try! More...

I attended a bridal shower brunch in the private space here on a Sunday afternoon. I was pleased with my experience and would definitely recommend planning an event here or just coming for brunch on a random Sunday. I chose to park my own car, but they did have valet available which was nice. The establishment is quaint and inviting! When I arrived the event space wasn't ready so I sat to wait in the waiting area that was so cute! Once the space was ready we all gathered in the private area and it was beautiful! The staff was friendly and inviting and eager to help. We did have to go to the bar to order alcoholic beverages, but it wasn't an inconvenience. I had a Mayton Mimosa and I must say...DELICIOUS and STRONG, but it didn't taste strong. I only had 1 since I was driving, but next time I'll get a DD because these are amazing and only $8!!We had a buffet with all the brunch favorites: scrambled eggs, stone ground grits, biscuits, country ham, bacon, sausage gravy, pimento cheese, and various jams & butter for the biscuits. It was all delicious!!! I was pleased with the food options and the flavor. The private space was large and elegant and fit with the theme of the bridal shower, a fancy hat tea party theme. Between bridal shower activities, the patio was open and they had some games, corn-hole and jumbo jenga, for us to play which was great!I definitely plan to return! More...

So, I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5  because the wait to be seat and the wait for our food was a bit excessive. HOWEVER, the food was worth the wait! Our party of 12 had just about every item on the Brunch Menu and itnwas ALL amazing!!! More...

We had breakfast here after spending the night at the Mayton Inn. Food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Plus everything was surprisingly reasonable pricewise for a hotel restaurant. My  waffle was hot, fresh and topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries. The yogurt parfait included the same fruit combo along with delicious housemade granola. My wife loved it. The breakfast bowl was comprised of rice, black beans, red onions, avocado, spinach and chicken sausage. My only complaint was that there were just a few pieces of dark avocado. The poached eggs were perfectly prepared and piping hot.The only real negatives were a less than stellar 92 sanitation score and a noisy business gathering in the room next door that was impossible to ignore. Overall though they serve up a pretty solid breakfast. It's not quite four star, more like a 3.75, but close enough that I can justify the round up. More...

I love Verandah! My coworker and I have been here a few times for happy hour and each time we discover a new favorite menu item. The crab hush puppies are to die for! The pulled pork pimento dip, Parmesan herb fries and macaroni and cheese are all amazing! I haven't gotten around to the house sausage sliders (they were sold out the last 2 times we visited) but they are next on my to-try list! This place is such an affordable hidden gem! Rare for me to give a 5 star rating, but we've been to this gem twice now (lunch and Sunday brunch) and both meals and service were consistently top notch, a true hidden gem!  Tucked inside a small, boutique hotel, this tight spaced dining area delivers big flavors, fresh preparation and quality service, all reasonably priced give the food quality.  Everything from their sandwiched (smoked salmon was fabulous) to their omelettes and sides were all very tastefully presented, freshly prepared and hot food was hot, cold was cold.  Full bar available to serve as well.  Just a great place for everyday as well as special meals, we'll be back!! I dint expect such a grand brick building right in the heart of Cary downtown. Beautiful ambience, feels like you have teleported to the early 1900's. Gorgeous decor with beautiful wooden wall cabinets and one of a kind decor pieces. There is a beautiful waiting area if you arrive early. I would recommend reservations ahead of time as the place was bustling and the chatter from the dining room can make it noisy. This was a perfect spot for our girls brunch. The food was beautifully plated. I had the plum bellini and it was refreshing. I had the chipotle chicken Tostada and the French toast. Both were extremely delicious , the tostada had great flavors and the right sauces; the French toast was crispy outside and melting inside. The maple syrup was served on the side which is amazing since I don't like my toast soggy. I will definitely go back to this place. More...

I was pleasantly surprised at the price point for brunch - for some reason I thought it was very expensive but there are several brunch options between $10-13 and more that are a little more than that.  You can also order off the Bar Menu at brunch.I went with the shrimp and grits and enjoyed them - there were 6 large shrimp and the grits, bacon, asparagus, and all that jazz tasted great. We were a party of 5 and there were lots of other groups.  It was hard to hear my friends across the table with it being so busy.  I did not see any littles when I was there for brunch but I know that the Mayton Inn does encourage families with young kids to visit.I learned that if  you have a very large group they have a couple of room options that you can reserve for your get together. We've been here twice. The food is always spot-on, and the service really can't be beat. We bring our whole family, three kids (one toddler who prefers to walk the lobby of the hotel than hang out with family) and my in-laws, one of which has some food issues which can make eating out difficult for her. They bend over backwards to serve us. The servers are all very knowledgeable about the entire menu, wine and beer included. The entire staff attends to every need, and some even engage our toddler. My five-year-old wanted grilled cheese, which wasn't on the kids menu. I read the kids menu to him again, and a server overheard and said that they could easily make him a grilled cheese if he wanted. Look, it sucks going to restaurants with kids. I try not to. This restaurant really makes us feel so much better about having our children with us, and their kindness helped make the experience better for everyone. Plus, the food. THE FOOD! It is so good. Everyone should eat here. More...

We had a delicious Christmas Eve Dinner here. Drinks were delicious. Service was seriously outstanding. Our server was able to handle 4 kids and my GF needs without skipping a beat.  I was very thankful they had many different gluten free options and they were also to customize dishes if you needed that. The food was simply amazing.  The biscuits they give you beforehand - my party loved. Sadly, not able to eat them...maybe they will have a GF option soon (one can hope).  I had the special which was a scallops and risotto dish and I cleaned the plate. Everyone was very pleased with their meals which is hard with such a large group.Next time I'll probably check out the bar menu for lunch or come for brunch. Overall a seriously delicious meal. I can't day enough how good the food was. Also the cocktail to start was fantastic. My main issue was the fact that it's Dec. 22nd and in addition to some good food I wanted a Christmas atmosphere. They had none.  Disappointed in that only.I ordered an old Manhattan drink and it was so great. We ordered their brussel sprouts as an app and they were spot on. Came here for brunch with the family on a Sunday morning around 11am. That day was the day I found out about the new law in NC that FINALLY recognized brunch and allowing people to consume alcoholic beverages before noon. My mom had supposedly requested a quiet area to dine and though she acted "surprised" that we ended up in a private room, we got a whole room to ourselves. That was different. Probably not necessary but the fact that they were able to accommodate this ridiculous request (love her though), was AWESOME! I ordered the steak and eggs that was just okay. It was good, but nothing to necessarily rave about. For drinks, we had the Mayton Mimosa(that had some vodka in it) and got a pitcher to share which was delicious. It was enough for 8 glasses (2 per person). My mom had The Barry White which was very good but maybe not for pre-meal drink (more like a dessert drink would have made more sense). Service was ABSOLUTELY fantastic! Overall enjoyed dining here. More...

Such a cute, bright fun place to meet for brunch. The shrimp and grits was amazing! The mimosa is delicious just note that it's sherbet colored! We arrived around 11:30 last Sunday without a reservation and they were able to seat us within 15 minutes. The atmosphere is gorgeous, airy and sunshine-filled. We stayed so long chatting that we recessed to the lounge across the hall and had coffee and desert. It's a lovely place to catch up with friends or relax alone. More...

Although my personal experience today was a 3 star, I'm giving the 4th star to be fair to the experience of the table as a whole. A friend and I were treating a third friend who is moving away. Overall, the food was nicely prepared.  One person was pleased with her steak tartare, the second had a fried chicken salad which was incredibly good (she gave us all a taste.  I ordered the steak, which came with fries.  I wanted some vegetables so ordered a "side" of Brussels sprouts with my meal.  When the order arrived, I was presented with a large bowl of Brussel sprouts.  I asked the waitress whether all the sides were so large.  She responded that because I already had a side of fries, I couldn't order another side (marked as $2, I think), so she brought me the $8 bowl - that maybe she should have mentioned that to me ahead of time. Because I didn't want to make my friends uncomfortable, I didn't make an issue of it, but was quite unhappy.Back to the food... the fries were just right, the fried Brussels spouts were as well, the steak was not medium as ordered but tough and over cooked.Coffee was not hot.The food that was so good (most of it) was enough that I would give the Verandah another go. I too am surprised by the less than stellar reviews. I was somewhat hesitant to make Father's Day brunch reservations due to some of the reviews. However, I'm glad I did go ahead and make reservations. Perhaps it's hit or miss and we happened to be there on a "hit." Although we parked on the street when we arrived, there did appear to be complimentary valet at the entrance. We were kindly greeted in the lobby and given directions to Verandah, which was straight down the hallway. The restaurant does open to the rest of the hotel and it feels a little bit like you're invading the hotel as a guest, but it has kind of an upscale fancy feel to it. Once you are seated, it feels a little less awkward. For apparel, I saw everything from jeans to dresses and heels, so I think just about anything would be acceptable clothing-wise. We were greeted right away and seated after our table was cleaned. Our waiter was super friendly and on top of things. I ordered the Southern Benedict. Super yummy. Served on some light biscuits with ham, collard greens and topped with eggs and a tangy Hollandaise sauce. The Hollandaise sauce made this dish! The serving size included 2 biscuits/eggs and I felt this serving size was a tad small. Three biscuits/eggs would have been a better serving size for the price and I would have left very satisfied instead of feeling like I needed to grab a snack when I headed home. It was 11am and I hadn't eaten all day, so it could have been due to my hunger that I was left wanting more.My husband celebrated Father's Day with the fish tacos and the Pork Montadas. He enjoyed both. The Pork Montadas seemed to be a much larger portion than the rest of our meals. Our daughter ordered the steak and eggs. She wasn't about to share, so I didn't try it, but the steak looked really good! Again, a bit smaller on the serving size. I nabbed a few potatoes off my husband's plate and there were really good. We'll be back. It's nice to have something like this conveniently available close to home in Cary without having to drive to Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill for a like-dining experience. More...

It's funny that this spot has such lower ratings!  We absolutely loved it here!  Cool little quaint hotel in the middle of Cary, and this dining room is a beautiful addition to all of that adorableness. We came in on a rainy Saturday mid-morning for breakfast, to a very friendly hostess (I have a feeling she may have been doubling as the manager as well).  There was tons of happenings- baby shower, big group meeting in the hotel, and a car show out front- and yet the service we received from all staff was on point!  And the coffee was great, food SO great! We both had the Verandah breakfast bowl, adding eggs over easy on top- great portion, and such wonderful flavors.I only wish I had more room in my stomach to finish it all!If we are back in the area, we will surely be back- maybe for one of the savory pancakes or french toast with an adult bev on the side! Lovely Mother's Day dinner-I'll returnI had been to the High Ball bar for drinks but never had eaten a proper meal at the Mayton Inn. Verandah did not disappoint! We booked an early dinner to honor my Mother in Law. The Mayton is gorgeous decor and the food was amazing! But the most crucial element that made the entire event successful was the high quality service. Everyone from the hostess to our server, Jesse and his in training counterpart provided attention and grace to our meal. The manager, Todd, came around twice to ensure we were all satisfied. Our server noticed something on a bread plate and quietly/quickly obtained a replacement. Our table had shrimp and grits, the seafood cakes, crab cakes, and a beautiful salad. Everyone loved their food. I definitely recommend for any meal but also a special occasion or dining with particular, foodie-type people!P.S. shout out to Seneca in the bar who always provides wonderful service. More...

I'll start by saying I am a big Mayton Inn fan! I think the hotel and restaurant are beautiful and so well decorated. On my most recent visit the service left a lot to be desired, like a lot. I was disappointed because that is not the norm I have seen here, hence the four stars overall. We were a large group for brunch and the waitress was not happy we moved the tables together even though the host told us we could. With a group of 12 we want to sit next to each other and not be at different tables. She acted like it would be too hard for her to serve us our food without reaching over, but it was 100% fine and not a problem at all. Tip was included so I don't know if that had anything to do with the service. We had asked for more cream for coffee and she basically said no there was another cream, even when I said that one was empty. Just felt like we were bothering her with any requests we had. She also brought the checks out while some of us were still eating. Nothing makes you feel rushed than getting your check on your side plate. Everyone really enjoyed their brunch items. I ordered the creme brûlée french toast and it was tasty, but the center was a bit soggy. I understand it's hard not to get the middle soggy when you make french toast, but maybe if they used thicker bread it would have solved the problem. The biscuits and gravy were a big hit as well as the Southern Benedict. The coffee was awesome, our group guessed they may use Counter Culture. The brunch menu could be a bit larger, maybe some more basic breakfasts like an egg plate or things along those lines. More...

Don't know and don't care what this place is doing at 3.5 stars. Short version: food and service were fantastic. You should go here, but not so many of you as to make it difficult for me to go here. I am a guy but I am not above buying a girlie drink because they are fricken delicious. You should get the Bless Your Heart because it, too, is delicious. On Mondays they are running a "break even" bourbon special. They choose the bourbon (my night was Jefferson Reserve) at $3.39 limit 1. Beat that. You can't. Well, maybe at your house. Still. A grilled romaine salad was out of sight and started ya off. A petite filet and crab cakes were perfectly done and delicious. I would order both again. We finished it off with a peanut butter and chocolate pie which was, as expected, outstanding. However the flourless chocolate torte, the bourbon pecan pie, and salted caramel cheesecake are all going to be tried on subsequent visits. All that- starter, mains, drinks and a dessert for less than $90.00 in downtown Cary?! Giddy up Verandah- you have a new fan! More...

Located inside Mayton Inn in downtown Cary. The ambiance is elegant. There are not many places like this in Cary. You get an elegant impression from the start when entering through the hotel entrance. You pass the bar on your way to the dining area and there is a library/lounge part next to it. The dining room has lots of windows to the side, so lot of light coming in. There is a patio outside, which is quite spacious. I like the design of the tables and chairs. The floors were very dirty though, how staff could miss to see that was surprising. Useless detail shared here: I heard someone complain behind us about the salt and peppar shakers not being fancy enough and that details matter. What?! The staff responded by saying that "we are Southern Casual and proud of it" lol.We went for brunch which is served until 2.30. The prices are reasonable. Average around 12 dollars per dish. The Chicken & Waffles were good, the batter crisp on the chicken was just right, not too thick or oily, with just enough amount of the honey syrup drizzle. The waffle was light. But I didn't notice the whipped butter. The Shrimp & Grits with Eggs was OK, not the best we have had. Not bad, just made different. It had a lot of excess liquid, was not very creamy. The grits were not completely ground. So gritty grits, if that makes sense. It was more like a shrimp dish in a thin sauce with a side of grits. The smoked tomatoes and the shiitake mushrooms were good. But it was mainly just garnish and it needed more quantity. Don't think we would order it again. Also, they forgot to serve the egg. But very satisfactorily amended the bill for us.The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Plenty of hot water refills for our teas. Mimosas are 8 dollars and cocktails are 10-12 dollars. The restrooms were clean and I like that they have those type of paper towels that are soft, as opposed to the regular hard ones. Mayton Inn has complimentary valet parking. So far, this is my favourite brunch spot in the area. More...

Short version: I'd go with 4.5 stars for the Sunday Brunch at Verandah. Nice restaurant atmosphere where you can dress up or down either way, excellent food choices, and good service. I am a fan!The Deets:Always on that quest for a great Sunday brunch venue, we gave Verandah in the Mayton Inn on Academy Street in Cary a try this past weekend. The look and atmosphere itself is very nice, entering almost in a study/library type area and then going into a very open and light filled dining room beyond the greeting desk. The impression is very polished and grand, and even elegant but then again you can come as you are as well it seems...it handles both perfectly. The only thing about the open window filled area is that if facing the outside along the edge seats, the sunshine can be a bit intense (as it was in my case, trying to elude the direct glare and heat). Our server was on top of things and was upbeat, no complaints about service on this visit. I started with a Mayton Mimosa (vodka, prosecco, pineapple juice, orange juice) and it was a great refreshing way to start the day off with a bit of coffee served as well. I opted for the Two Eggs Breakfast Plate (2 eggs, bacon or sausage links, hash brown, sourdough toast), keeping it simple while Chris M. went with the Southern Benedict (poached eggs and biscuits, with smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and hollandaise) and we both decided to share Caramelized Apple Pancakes. We thought all of our dishes were satisfying and great tasting, no disappointments. I have to say the pancakes were a real standout, yum! I do recommend Sunday Brunch at Verandah for either a special brunch out or just a nice meal breaking from the ordinary spots...good stuff! More...

This restaurant is absolutely stellar.  The atmosphere is a fascinating mix of both fancy and casual.  My book club meets in the library and some come in sweatpants - it could be strange to see someone dressed that way next to people at a wedding rehearsal dinner, but the whole feel is elegantly casual and it just fits. The food is amazing.  I've never had a bad meal here.  Their crab cakes make my mouth water just from looking at them!  And their shrimp and grits and beef tips have been wonderful too.  If salted caramel cheesecake is an option, get it!  You won't regret it.The staff is attentive as well.  We love Verandah and the library and bar. My wife and I actually went here for a Yelp event. We were so hungry we opted to eat dinner. Everything on the menu looked pretty good but neither of us had tried frog legs before so we decided to be adventurous. The dish came out and looked amazing. The fried legs were on a mound of potatoes, corn and chopped smoked sausage. The legs were very crunchy and just like the reputation for frog legs tasted like chicken. The juiciest chicken you could ever have. My only complaint is that there were only two frog legs. I felt that was a little stingy for $12. They should advertise it as one frog's legs or add more of them to the dish. Next we tried the flame grilled arugula salad. This looked just as good as it tasted, FANTASTIC! The arugula was singed and covered with pickled onions a smoky tomato vinaigrette and goat cheese. I could have eaten 3 helpings of just this salad. It was exquisite and the dressing was very creamy and delicious. For the main course we had pork chops for two. These were two HUGE chops cooked perfectly on a bed of cabbage, celery root and radishes. Probably the best pork chops I've ever had. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The vegetables underneath had soaked up the juices and seasoning from the chops. They were great as well. My wife ended the meal with a caramel salt cheesecake that she devoured. The Verandah at the Maytonn Inn is a perfect place for a date night. The prices are very reasonable and the ambiance is fancy but not formal.  The service was outstanding. We definitely will be back. I wouldn't normally consider eating at a hotel restaurant unless I was traveling but I'm so glad someone recommended Verandah! We've been for dinner, drinks and appetizers as well as breakfast and all were good. Breakfast was the best though, classic and tasty and not too costly. Service is excellent and dining on the patio is a must if the weather is right. The Mayton Mimosa is awesome too! More...

Absolutely beautiful venue. Wait staff very personable and attentive. I was there for a Yelp Elite event. The heavy appetizers were tasty. I had delicious red pepper hush puppies. Perfectly prepared. The pimento cheese on a biscuit with country ham was the other item I snagged. The cheese was a large cold mound on a cold biscuit--maybe not the best representation of what they have to offer. The cucumber with shrimp that was passed around was really good. So 2 out of three when serving a large crowd, not bad.Shout out to Bedlam Vodka out of Durham. Thanks for the tasty cocktails! I'll be looking for this smooth vodka in our local ABC stores. More...

Spent part of our Friday evening at the Mayton Inn Bar having drinks and small plates. The bartender's Melissa and Senaca were pleasant, polite and personable.  I ordered the strawberry/mint speciality cocktail...what a creative drink...i had 3!!  My husband ordered the Charcuterie plate and I ordered the Red Quinoa Salad--we shared.  The presentation was just lovely with quality ingredients.  We never felt rushed but totally relaxed and enjoyed our time there! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! The food was absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend this restaurant and bar if you are looking for high end, great quality cuisine at affordable price.  The crab cakes and salted caramel cheesecake was heavenly!!!! The morning of our departure we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast as guest of the Inn that consisted of an omelet with sausage & poached eggs over biscuit definitely not a continental breakfast... much, much BETTER!!! We spent the a night at the Mayton Inn and thus had the chance to try the Verandah for both dinner and breakfast. I was impressed with the quality and taste of their dishes. The service was good and I enjoyed the open environment.DINNERRibeye - the Ribeye was paired with fingerling potatoes and dressed with a diced apple sauce. The ribeye was cooked properly for my order (medium) and was tender and juicy. While I liked the fingerling potatoes, I would have liked if the potatoes were cut into pieces and paired with another veggie rather than just served whole. The apple sauce was interesting addition to the steak which gave a sweet taste to the steak which may or may not be everyone's cup of tea.Shrimp and Grits - I really enjoyed this appetizer. The roasted tomatoes adds nice sweet notes to the creaminess of the mushrooms. The shrimp were delicious and juicy.BREAKFASTI highly recommend the Verandah for breakfast.Belgian Waffle - the Belgian waffle was very good. The waffle was topped with generous portions of berries (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry) which gave the Waffle fresh sweetness. The powdered sugar was also a nice touch. It would be nice if they could also include whipped cream with the waffle.Blueberry pancake - this was my favorite breakfast dish. Absolutely delicious, one of the best pancakes I've had. The pancake had the perfect level of slight crispiness to the outer layer while still being soft and fluffy inside. The blue berries were generously spread through the pancake.Sausage and pimento cheese omelette - the omelette was also delicious. The egg was the perfect consistency, soft and fluffy. The sausage had a bit of spice which gave the omelette a nice kick. The omelette also came with hash browns which were also very good. More...

I had dinner with friends then came back for a second dinner, or more of a snack I guess. Among us we got the Smoked grilled Ribeye, Fried Frog Legs, and Shrimp & Grits. My friend got the Shrimp & Grits because she absolutely loved it from the Yelp events! The frog legs were very well season, you get two for the appetizer. The Ribeye was juicy and every bite was delicious, loved the apple poblano compote on top!! Breakfast menu was outstanding. The Belgium waffle top with powder sugar and fruits was excellent, best I've had in North Carolina. The waffle was my favorite for sure! Smoked bacon had the perfect crunch. The omelet was so good, fluffy and filled with sausage. Blueberry pancakes were my boyfriend's fave, he thought they were amazing and I agree. More...

Verandah, which advertises itself as casual southern, is a nice addition to the very good restaurants in Cary, NC. The first time I was at Verandah, which is located inside the Mayton Inn on Academy Street in Cary, I attended a wedding reception. The place was packed, food was delicious, and service was very good. My second visit was a celebration of our 50th Wedding Anniversary, and our meal was wonderful, starting with a bottle of champaign and the fried oyster appetizer. The only negative was that there were only 4 oysters in the serving, so we each got one. Our meals were great. I got a lamb shank special, others got crab cakes, Day Boat Scallops, and pork Osso Bucco. All were delicious. It seems that reviewers either love Verandah or not, with few reviews in the middle. Since this is a new restaurant I suggest that those who had a negative experience give it another try after it has had a few weeks, or months, to work through the rough edges. In addition to wonderful food our service was excellent. They also have a full bar. More...

What a great addition to Cary!  A good friend and I had Sunday brunch here a couple of weeks ago.  The space is beautiful!  Lots of light.  The patio also looked great, but we chose to eat inside.  Service was fast, but not intrusive.  I had an amazing peach Bellini.  I could make that alone a Sunday tradition.  I had the chicken and waffles.  The chicken had a little kick that I enjoyed.  It was served with half of a fluffy Belgium waffle with a cinnamon butter.  It was yummy.  My friend also enjoyed her entree.  I can't remember exactly what it was....toast, eggs, bacon and hash browns perhaps.  We had a slow brunch enjoying the time to catch up and were not rushed to leave.  I also had the opportunity to eat more yummy food from the Mayton Inn last night at a yelp event.  Shrimp and grits were especially delicious.  We will be back.... often!  I can't wait to try dinner soon. I was in Chapel Hill for business and I met a friend who lives in Cary for lunch at Verandah. My experience was truly delightful. Warren, the valet was a pleasure to talk to...our server accommodated us in the bar area where I had a fantastic Bloody Mary, celeriac soup and fabulous trout salad. Service was swift but not rushed and we lingered over our drinks without once feeling like we had to close out the check. I look forward to my next trip to the area. It was a great way to start the weekend! More...

Great lunch from start to finish. I loved the sweet valet who parked my car. Burger was delicious. Great size as were fries. Service was excellent as well. Really nice spot to have a leisurely and delicious lunch in a beautiful new hotel. Very reasonably priced too. I'll certainly be returning. If I was severed this for wedding food I would be impressed. ...unfortunately I came here for a Valentine's Day meal. Not my wedding. Our server came to the table, never introduced himself, and immediately started telling us about the daily special. He was pleasant and nice, and I wish he would have told us his name, because he was probably the best part of the experience. The appetizer, fried green tomatoes, was under seasoned and clunky; it desperately needed salt and wouldn't have been offended if it had more balsamic reduction. The wine was decent but for $32/bottle I expected a little more; the wine selection was seemingly slim. Our entrees came out hot and promptly, and were tasty but also lacking salt. We ordered the beef tips special and the chicken entree. Both were served with under seasoned mashed potatoes, but both the meats were cooked extremely well. The skin on the chicken was crisp and perfect! Overall, the meal was fine. For what we paid, we were slightly underwhelmed, but now we know. Give them a try for yourself! More...

Wow, I cannot believe currently this place only has 3 stars! Hubby and I had drinks and ordered a few dishes of bar menu. Our bartender was Jennie and the drinks were phenomenal ! Her mixology skills are on point! The food was well executed, shrimp and grits, fried oyster and charcuterie plate.  We also had a quick tour from the very sweet young lady at the front desk. We would definitely love to visit again for brunch or another date night. Be sure to check out the bar for a drink! You will not regret it. More...

When I saw Amanda's Photos, then Ann H.'s Photos, I knew I wanted to see for myself!  After eating here, I agree it is like being in the Lap of Luxury, except for the Food and Service. .. I honestly wish there was a way I could rate more than 5 stars! Verandah deserves 5,000 stars! I found this spot on groupon where I was attracted to an ad posted about them making shrimp and grits. When we arrived at the restaurant the smell was amazing! The parking lot was filled with the wonderful smell of food. As we entered the facility we were greeted by a pleasant smile. We arrived at the close of brunch so we were able to sit just about any where we wanted. The décor of the grand ballroom was amazing. We ate in the bar area and ordered our dishes. We had a new server who was very polite and patient. She knew a great deal about the menu as if she had been working there for a while. The décor of the grand entrance was breathe taking. There is a waiting room in the main room with books that reach the ceiling. The place is so romantic. Its the perfect spot for a date night. When our food arrived, I was stunned as the shrimp and grits are the best I've ever had. On this particular day a musician was on the patio playing live music. Verandah gets 5stars for amazing service, wonderful food and flawless staff! More...

Wow! Gorgeous restaurant with elegant silver colored seats. Nice view from the patio. We ate dessert outside and dinner indoors. Comfy seating. Server was very attentive and friendly. After dessert we sat in the lobby where there are comfy couches and dim ambiance. Very clean and quiet restaurant and hotel. Prices are reasonable and most of the menu is local produce. The chicken portion was great and the asparagus was perfectly prepared. The mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. We had a beautiful night here and felt relaxed the entire visit. Staff is very accomodating. On Wednesday they have afternoon tea. Parking is close by but may be limited now due to nearby construction.Addendum on 4/20/17: excellent service and food was very flavorful. I ordered the avocado tomato soup, very creamy. Mike had the spinach salad with chicken. Pickled grapes added a distinct flavor. Patio dining was so peaceful. More...

Having moved to Cary a few months ago we thought it was time to try a place for breakfast that we hadn't been to before, so we headed to Verandah (which is in the Mayton Inn) here in Cary. We are glad we did. Breakfast was great. Strong French press coffee to start. My wife had a pimento cheese-andouille sausage omelette and I had the Belgian waffle. We both were very happy. Staff was friendly and room for dining very comfortable. Since the Inn is new we also walked around the building to see what was there and had the opportunity to meet one of the owners, Deanna Crossman. She and her husband are the proud owners of this beautiful place. We were surprised to learn that the building was not an old one that they completely renovated, but a completely brand new building made to look and feel like it came from a different time. Somewhat explains how they were able to incorporate so many environmental features in the building. We're now hoping they have a new year's event so we stay there as well. Oh, we'll be back for breakfast before then too! More...

Our experience at Verandah was thought he Cary Pub crawl, the crawl is organized by an employee of the Mayton Inn and Verandah was our first stop.  We arrived early and sat in the bar area while we waited, we saw several dishes come out to other patrons and they all looked delicious!  As part of the pub crawl we were provided with a signature cocktail and an appetizer. The whole place is gorgeous, the bar area is a mix between modern and classic vintage.  The drink was a brown derby and while I am not a huge fan of bourbon, the honey and orange zest really made it!  A pork medallion over smoked gouda grits, think shrimp and grits but with pork instead, it was amazing. We look forward to going back again soon! More...

Their tag line here is "refined comfort" and boy, do they live up to it. Chef Jeff is a master in the kitchen and creates such delicious and entertaining dishes. My taste buds have a serious crush on this food. The staff is attentive and down-to-earth. All in all, always a wonderful dining experience.I've even had Chef design a custom menu for an anniversary dinner. The menu was crafted with care and consideration for my husband and I which made for an unforgettable anniversary. If you're in the mood for a nibble, I recommend the charcuterie. A solid lunch, the pimento cheese burger. A hearty dinner, the market fish over oyster and corn stew. And make sure, WHATEVER YOU EAT, you save room for dessert. The salted caramel cheesecake will knock yours socks off.I work just around the corner so I like to frequent Verandah for meals in Cary. If you're driving to Cary, feel free to utilize their complimentary valet parking; just pull in up front and if somebody doesn't immediately greet you outside, bring the keys in to the front desk. Overall, I had a good experience here. There were a few missteps but this place is very new so I imagine that's to be expected. The Verandah is located inside of the very cute Mayton Inn. It has a very classy atmosphere but the prices are very reasonable. As a grad student, I appreciate the opportunity to feel fancy without spending a lot of money! I got the two egg breakfast with andouille sausage gravy, fried green tomatoes and greens. The andouille sausage gravy gave the dish a more unique taste than a standard egg breakfast and the fried green tomatoes were delicious. I wasn't as pleased with the greens because the menu said that they'd be mustard greens but I got spinach instead. It's possible that they're still tweaking their menu so be warned that your dish may come out differently than how it's described on the menu. On the plus side, I don't remember the fried green tomatoes being listed on the menu so that was a nice surprise! The service here was on the slow side but my waitress was very nice. She made a mistake with my order and even though the mistake was fixed quickly, she still discounted my meal by a significant margin. In looking forward to coming back here and trying their other breakfast options. The apple pancakes definitely caught my eye! This restaurant opens at 6:30 and that's a major plus for me since I'm an early riser and so few restaurants open early. It's nice to have options other than Denny's and Waffle House! More...
