Will be greatly missed after 12 years! Food coming out of Matt Gordon's kitchen was always brilliant. Look for him to helm another kitchen somewhere soon!
I'll miss this place so much. Thanks for the tasty and fun memories.
Absolutely perfect experience from start to finish. We were hosting a large group (12+) and the Urban Solace team was nothing but accommodating, flexible, and patient. The ambiance and food were spectacular. More...
Food was good, cheddar biscuits and fries, and salad all amazing... the cod not so much. I also had a cocktail with rum and ginger beer really good...the service was AMAZING
Great place for lunch with my sister after shopping! It’s a charming and friendly atmosphere. Lively, but not so loud that you can’t have a private conversation. The food was delicious and the range was wide enough to suit a carnivore like myself and a vegetarian like my sister. Our server was polite, helpful, and attentive but didn’t hang out with us. It was my first trip but will not be my last! More...
Love this place; from small groups, to larger groups (as with this visit), to just solo for lunch at the bar - it's always the same: outstanding food, relaxed and casual atmosphere, and a staff focused on courtesy and service. US&BS set up a table for 10, on a Sunday morning. The usual Bluegrass next door outside that provided a nice music backdrop and still able to keep up good conversation while inside. Service was impeccable as always - ask and you receive, with just the right amount of attention that you don't feel neglected, but given enough space to enjoy the meal and your company. Food was up to the usual standard, with the Bennys and Salmon bowls almost perfect. The Croque, while outstanding in taste and flavor, was a bit "messy" - guess I was expecting a tight-collar French presentation. Maybe it was Urban Solace's take on it: comfort food - but ultimately, the presentation didn't matter as much as the eats - it was completely finished and very satisfying. Oh - and "This is for Rosa": it has become my favorite morning cocktail, and on my personal list of "guilty vice pleasures" :-). Thanks again, Urban Solace crew - I will keep coming back! More...
Great wine and food. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us to exactly the wines we were looking for.
It's been two years since I last went to Urban Solace. While the menu changed to a small plates style, the food was no less inventive and delicious! I had the chimichurri steak, roasted celery root, and a small 3-item charcuterie board (a sausage with two cheeses) and thought they were all very good. I definitely recommend this place to foodies. The service was excellent, food was interesting and fresh and the blue grass band was awesome!
Everything seemed AOk, I really like this restaurant. The only complaint I had was... knowing that these were small plates, the order of scallops was the definition of a small plate. Should have been, maybe, 6 scallops or may 3 very large ones. It seemed pricy and ridiculous when it arrived at the table. Everything else was fine. More...
I love the new menu - the mushroom fritters and smoked beets were delightful. And the lemon tart! So. Good. I love that there are so many plant-based options and they're clearly labeled on the menu. Staff was wonderful, and were able to accommodate my request for a quietish spot so my hard of hearing dad and I could chat easily. More...
Lovely. Cooked beautifully. Nice service and ambiance.
Fun meal with friends - enjoyed the new small plates menu!
the food was good. our server knew which wines to pair with what food on the menu.
Urban Solace is one of my husband's and my favorite restaurants. We have been many times and always loved the food and drink menu. We returned for my birthday and to try the new small plate format. Drinks came out immediately, and so did the charcuterie and cheese plate we ordered, which we always enjoy. We ordered about 5 small plates and a second round of drinks next. For some reason, they got behind on tickets and food was slow, we were finishing our drinks and still no food. Without even having to ask, we got a free round of drinks and a free dessert as food was so slow. It felt nice to be so well taken care of; we understand sometimes the kitchen gets behind for various reasons. Running a restaurant is not an easy thing! But when the management can recognize a mishap and make up for it shows true customer service. As for food quality, all was very tasty, save the broccolini which I think they rushed out (it was not charred as advertised). The lamb meatballs and the pork belly pancakes were REALLY good and worth the wait. Overall, this is still one of my very favorite restaurants and I plan to return again soon. Thank you Urban Solace! Met up with friends from out of town for brunch. It was so awesome! There was a blue grass band playing. Tons of families and locals. Food was superb!
Great food and service never felt rushed and was attended to perfectly!
This place was so delicious!! The cinnamon bun definitely lived up to the hype I read about before going. The drinks were also delicious. Serve was slightly slow, but we are NYCers so perhaps we are just used to a faster pace then usual. Overall, great place! More...
Great transition to small plates. Excellent service.
The best caramelized black cod ever! Oysters fresh, waitress helpful and friendly but not intrusive.
Had a lovely evening. Sunday night of a Holiday weekend, it was pretty quiet. Everyone in our party (8), thought the food was excellent. My only negative would be, very poor selection for Vegan diets. Also a couple of the dishes were small.w More...
Love the new dinner menu of small plates! We had a very filling and affordable dinner with six plates. Loved the gnocchi, chaired broccolini, black cod and biscuits especially and wish I’d gotten the mussels, too, because they smelled amazing at the table next door.
Urban Solace was amazing for vegetarians. There were so many choices: the gnocchi and the broccolini standing out by far. The cocktail and beer selection is extensive and very good too!
Delicious Sunday brunch with live Bluegrass starting at 10am!
Awesome brunch and great service.
Great, came for brunch with my folks and everyone loved the food and the live music. Service was excellent. Will back soon to try the new dinner menu.
There's a reason why Urban Solace has been in North Park so long - they know what they're doing and are very good at it! Came from a small casual group brunch on a Saturday. Moderately filled with people, we were sat down immediately for our reservations. Food was excellent: eggs benedict (Pork Belly Benny), a skillet hash, and comfort food: biscuits and sausage! "This is for Rosa" was a great cold brew/vodka alternative to the mimosa, and the ambience is always pleasant, elegant, quiet - but casual. I'll keep going back! More...
Our new favorite local food spot. We fell in love with everything, can’t wait to try their brunch menu.
Great food, but need to vary menu.
Read about this place on Eater. Had good vegetarian options. Made a reservation (for 1 haha) but wound up sitting at the bar. Nice place, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Only problem was that they brought my main out less than 5 min after I got my app. I had maybe half of a biscuit and then the main arrived. Don't like that - plan better in the kitchen to give diners a chance to enjoy their app, drink, digest a bit and then bring the main. It wasn't packed, nor close to closing, so no reason for the rush. More...
Waiter was helpful and attentive.Food was delicious.Shared appetizer was a good value.Reserved table was ready upon arrival.
This was just a lunch with two friends who both share their love and mine too for the awesome watermelon salad. It is the best one we have had and maybe the first time years ago when we had it. We keep coming back for it during the summer because it's so refreshing. Of course, I had to get the duckaroni to go, can't pass that up at all. So delicious. One of our friends had a birthday and our sweet server even brought over some ice cream, very nice of her. More...
the food really blew us away! don’t pass on the charcuterie and cheese platter - exceptionally arranged and really special options to choose from. the beef cheeks are not to be missed! so tender and perfectly cooked, every bite was as good as the first. service was a bit awkward - our server dashed off as soon as we finished saying we wanted the charcuterie platter and promptly disappeared, without taking the rest of our meal and drink orders until much later. the pacing of our meal wasn’t great because of this; however, the food more than made up for the small glitch in service. would highly recommend! Bluegrass brunch on Sunday was so lovely! Good was delish and atmosphere was so much fun for our birthday celebrations!
Second time we went there, first time in brunch. The menu options are way more limited, but equally as tasty as Lunch/Diner.We picked this place for a get-together with friends we haven't seen in ages because we knew there was a wide variety of menu options and the ambiance is cool and casual. The noise level was a little high, but not excessive .Great experience, overall. Would recommend. More...
I would say the inside seating, while great, would be a bit more noisy than outdoor.
Lovely patio, great food, impeccable service! Wonderful spot for a quiet, delicious lunch. We WILL return.
Great food and service
This place is a go-to for me anytime we have company in town. City sophistication in a small neighborhood space where the price feels like a steal for such a lovely meal.
I believe if you serve biscuits that they should be warm, and ours were very cold and we could not eat them. Our food was okay but it seemed to be described very differently than what it tasted like in the end. Overall, I may come back again for drinks as the service was great and so is the ambiance. Awesome meal and awesome waitress! We loved everything she recommended! Thank you!
Good food for a reasonable price. Our waiter was great. An unhurried and pleasant brunch on the patio.
Had a lovely time with my siblings here catching up and eating some great food. Awesome cocktail menu and super nice people!
We were there pretty early, so it was nice and quiet, not sure about how noisy it would be with more people. The food was great, good cocktails, the wine list is reasonably priced.
Great food. Pricey but worth it. They messed up our cocktail but were okay with changing it out .
Great food & service!
Creative menu. Friendly, efficient service, good location.
Business lunch. Both had the ahi sandwich with fries. Got the aoli on the side. Good move, it was tasty without. Fries were better than expected. Will go back and try dinner sometime. Nice place. More...
Delicious! I had the grilled (four) cheese sandwich, tomato soup, salad. We went mid afternoon so we had the patio to ourselves. Service was perfect - attentive, not invasive. I've heard good things about Urban Solace for years but this was my first visit. I'll be back! More...
Had a fabulous salad with goat cheese and tempura avocado! And the s’mores dessert was amazing!
Bomb food. Exceptional service. This is among my top 3 spots to go I have a ton of food allergies and they always blow me away by their level of service and knowledge of allergies. I'm always comfortable here always a great experience :) More...
I was in town visiting friends in San Diego, and we went to Urban Solace for brunch. It was fun and the food was good. What made the service great was our waitress. She noticed that I did not finish my Bloody Mary and took it off our bill. We had several people approached our table and asked about our meal. Very attentive service! More...
I’ve been here before and the food is tasty. It was not as good this visit but I would go back. I like the environment. It took a little longer than I would like to order food which surprised me since it was a Wednesday night and not too busy.
I went over there with my family and they all loved this place. The mussels are the best and I had beef cheeks for my main course. It was awesome. It was so tender. We will definitely go back again. More...
A beautiful lunch on my birthday.Fabulous cocktails and excellent sea food! Perfect shrimp and grits, great gumbo!!
Incredible as usual
Prom dinner with a group of friends
Pre-theater dinner at Urban Solace was terrific - the waitress really knew her stuff, the venue is very well appointed, and the food was terrific.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. The menu is always fresh, great food, impeccable service and a fantastic cocktail menu.
It was a cool May grey day and decided their menu would be great to meet some friends. It was the perfect comfort food for a cold day. Would definitely go back.
Great comfort southern-fusion place. Had brunch items to satisfy my breakfast-hating boyfriend, picky stepdad, and Keto mom, while still catering to my trendy and adventurous taste. My only negative is that I HATE when restaurants don't gift anything on a birthday... It's the principle of the thing. I bring a whole group of friends and family out to celebrate, at least show some kind of gesture. And we both know that your markup on those deserts is insane anyway.... What could it really cost? $2-3? It's about making someone feel special on their special day!But that is my ONLY gripe! We had a great time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. More...
We received great service and delicious food. The restaurant was a little noisy, but not obnoxiously so. The menu included some non-traditional breakfast items, which we enjoyed.
I ate here last weekend. It doesn't look anything like the photo shown above. Instead, it looks like it just stepped off Bourbon Street! very New Orleans with wrought iron and all. I tried the chicken salad sandwich it was a good lunch. Didn't care for the fries, to be honest inn-n-out has better fries, but the over-all aesthetic is what makes North Park special and different than other neighborhoods in SD. More...
This is THE thing I miss about living in San Diego... We used to live down the street from this amazing little eatery and have been there probably 50 times in the past 4 years. We have NEVER been disappointed. From the incredible wine and beer selection to the AMAZING mac and cheese, I don't think I've ever had a meal there that I haven't loved! I love their commitment to sustainable food, as well as fresh, local produce. With a seasonally changing menu, I always look for something new to try, but I have to say if you are into it, GET THE MEATLOAF. It is the one thing (besides the mac and cheese) that I look for EVERY time we go. It's moist, and delicious and the lamb pairs incredibly well with the sweetness of the figs... it's not your Momma's Meatloaf, but it sure is DAMN good. Top off that meatloaf with the salted caramel pot de creme and you will need to be rolled out the door, pleasantly stuffed! More...
If you are like me and love food then you need to checkout Urban Solace. The food is fantastic and the service is excellent. I go there everytime I visit my favorite camera store George's. More...
I went to Urban Solace a couple months ago and it was terrific. Chef Matt Gordon came out and told us all about his modern twist to everyday foods. Everything we had was just amazing. The atmosphere outside made it feel like you were in a quaint, European city. The macaroni and cheese was excellent. The staff was nice. I highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back. After spending 4 great days in San Diego, the dinner we had at Urban Solace was by far the most memorable out of our entire trip. The food was excellent! We started with the Watermelon Salad with Pomegranate dressing (great combination) and the Sweet potato fries with buttermilk dressing (must have!). We also had the NY Mac and Cheese (needed some salt), Duckaroni (nice and smoky), and the Pork Chop entree(my favorite of the entrees) - All were fantastic. The restaurant was cozy and the atmosphere was not stuffy at all. Service was great and our waiter was very passionate about the food. We didn't stay for dessert (we opted for Heavenly Sent down the block), but hear the Velvet Cake is tasty. Had hoped to go back for Sunday Brunch- maybe next trip. Urban Solace does a great job on comfort food and we left very satisfied. More...
I was visiting from NYC for 12 days and we ended up at Urban Solace on 3 different occasions. Hands down, the watermelon/pomegranate/greek salad is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. I'm still dreaming of it and plan to replicate it on my own. The servers and staff were very friendly and accommodating if ocassionally slow for this New Yorker's taste. Other dishes of note include the pulled chicken and dumplings, the ""Not Your Mamma's"" meatloaf and the sweet potato fries. If you can, save room for dessert and try the ""Not So Red"" Velvet cake. Wow. Just wow. I will definitely return and even make a special trip to eat here again. Go. Tell your friends. More...
My first experience with this restaurant was a food and wine pairing event that allowed me to sample a wide range of the menu and get some face time with the head chef. After several courses it became abundantly clear that these owners demand perfection. They choose high quality ingredients and slave over them until they reach culinary mastery. Each bite put a smile on my face and I was happy to share the experience with some close friends making the evening unforgettable. More...
I had the privledge of attending a wine & food pairing event last week and was delighted by the quality of food, excellent wines, fantastic service and overall experience. I had peeked into the restaurant before planning on coming in for dinner as I was so intrigued by the outside. (New Orleans style exterior) I was pleased to see the inside was as great as the outside! Gourgeous thoughful food preparation awaited on the inside. My highlights include: -Seared Albacore Chop Chop (like a spicy ahi poke mixed with delicious guacamole! Fantastic) -Watermelon/Greek salad with dried currants & pomegranate vinaigrette-all I can say is party in my mouth! -Butternut Squash & Goat Cheeze Dip was heavenly! Healthy Comfort food. -I believe an all West Coast wine list (why not? Look how lucky we are to have so many amazing vineyards on the West Coast) I can't wait to go back and sit under the stars again on Urban Solace's outside patio under the strung light and enjoy another delicious meal paired with their delicious wines. Also, I'm looking forward to trying their Sunday brunch with a live bluegrass band! For sure, the place to go pre-post the Ray at Night event around the corner once a month! More...
I went to Urban Solace the other night for the first time. I was invited to a wine tasting through CitySearch, and since I had never been to this place I was curious. The items on the menu are reasonable priced and have a fun variation of familiar items, such as chicken and dumplings (theirs is pulled chicken with buttermilk dumplings, scrumptious!). During the wine tasting we were able to sample their watermelon, tomato, cucumber salad with pomegranate vinagarette dressing. It was heaven. A very playful combination of flavors and really got me excited for the next course. Every item that we tried was more delishous from the next. The head chef has daring combinations of flavors that result in a triumph. I am in my mid twenties, and not only did this restaurant appeal to me, but I know my 73 year old father would love it, too. So the atmosphere pleases multiple generations. I have been told reservations are recommeded, especially for their popular Sunday brunch which I will come back to experiences (live Blue Grass music every Sunday!) More...
My boyfriend and I recently went here for lunch, think it was on Memorial Day... anyhow everything about the experience was superb; the service, food, drinks, ambiance? all superb! The artichoke appetizer was ""to die for"", it literally melted in my mouth and the bloody Mary was like a meal in itself! Yumm!!! I would encourage everyone in the San Diego area to do. One tip, if you are super hungry on a Sunday morning this may not be the place unless you have a set reservation. We tried to go for Sunday brunch this past weekend and were told it would be at least an hour wait; we couldn't wait (we were far to hungry) and ended up going somewhere else... That just goes to show that I'm not the only one who thinks this place is great! More...
I went for the Bluegrass Brunch last week and this place was excellent. They were quite busy but we were still able to get a table and the food was very very good. Bisquits and Gravy were great and the Haanger Steak Benedict was superb. The music was nce as well and really enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the sun! I will be recommending this as one of my favorite brunch spots for sure More...
The Sweet Potato Fries are the only excuse you'll need!!!!!!!!!!! The service is tops, and the bar is great.
