Unicorn Salon

My great-grandparents owned a salon for the better part of a century and I grew up surrounded by people with a *lot* of thoughts on hair. This has made me *reallllllllly* fussy about what touches my hair. My hair had recently suffered some mishaps in the name of "Finding new stylist post move". My hair was borderline unhappy. I was borderline unhappy. Things were not going well in my hair-a-verse. At least not from the roots up. Enter Netta. Netta has a lot of personality. Maybe this won't be your jam. It definitely worked for me though. She put on some dubstep and got to the bleaching of roots. I feel like she was open though that if dubstep wasn't your thing she would have switched it up. Just like she was open to not putting toner in my hair despite me unintentionally sporting two shades of blonde due to recent prior colorist mishaps. I'm traumatized peeps. Maybe in a couple weeks. One of the most important talents no matter your industry is listening to your client. Netta listened to what I wanted. And she has a good eye.So, positives: -She listens-Hair looks good Additional positives: -The rinsing station has comfortable chairs for short people! Hell yes! I cannot even how many times I've gone to hairdressers where my shorty self cannot reach the bowl. Chair also has nice reclining feet up function. -All the bleach stayed off my clothing. Plus points for proper draping. Lame I need to say this in this world. But, there it is. Any day the bleach stays off my clothing is a good day indeed. Booking is via StyleSeat. Random side note: At the time of writing this review, you can't see signage of what/where the salon is from across the street. They were super nice and accommodating, got an appointment within 24hrs on a Friday!! I had a groupon for a haircut and they were so friendly and nice and let me do a deep conditioning for a few extra $$. Sweet ladies. Netta - a true magician for hair color! Her skill and honesty are hard to come by, so grateful to have found my go-to gal. She nailed my brunette balayage, with subtle warm auburn roots and light golden brown ends -- even better than what I had envisioned in my head.If you want to experiment, she'll be transparent on what you're getting into, yet supportive of your decision to go bold. Even IF they hadn't done an amazing job on my hair, I would probably come back because of how wonderful everyone was. I had SO much fun, and they were all absolutely delightful. For years I dreaded going back into a salon and walking out crying from a bad haircut and the stylist and I not connecting on what "I" wanted. .. UNTIL I found Unicorn salon! This has by far been the utter BEST experience I've ever had! Not only was my haircut PERFECT but my hair color was something everyone complemented me on, even strangers stop me on the street to pay me a nice complement. I hesitate to write this because I know it will make her appointments even less accessible, BUT I need to share the love. :) Basically, I'm super picky and demanding about my hair - like, you'll get a hundred texts in the week after I get a new hair color just asking how I can maintain the color, etc . etc. Also important to know is how much hair and I have (on top of that, how thick and curly it is...). I first found Netta through a groupon for a haircut - I walked out of the salon loving my haircut and feeling like I could trust her to do my color. I decided to go back to her for a balayage. Although I started to dislike the color after a week, Netta was very receptive to my texts asking her what my options would be for a different desired look. I eventually went back for a second balayage to get to the ashy blonde I wanted - difficult for a naturally black haired Asian girl like me. Nevertheless, Netta was able to get me to that color! I really admired all the thought and work she put in to get me to this color, even accommodating my difficult schedule to fit me and finish the color when I ran out of time in our previous appointment. It's amazing how changing your hairstyle/ color can give you an extra boost of confidence and wow-factor. I have Netta to thank for that! I've gotten tons of compliments too - everytime I know to share the services of superstar Netta and her new and upcoming salon. TL;DR - Netta is a charm. Everyone talks about her personality and her communication - on point. Even more on point, though, is her vision for all of her clients to love their hair. She tells is as it is, which is such an underrated but important quality to have as a hair stylist. I also appreciate that she does not over charge for services - prices are very reasonable. Netta is PERFECT! She really, REALLY knows her stuff. As in, every time I see her she does something different with my hair and actually makes it look even more stunning than the last stunning thing she did. Next, she's awesome! I just love hanging out with her and talking. I've had plenty of stylists where I just sit with my book or magazine because I can't find anything to talk about -- with Netta, we don't stop talking the whole time, and laughing up a storm. I've been wanting to get my hair both cut and colored for months, almost an entire year now, and every other hairstylist I went to told me it would end up costing me upwards of $600 and would be done in multiple sessions (4 at minimum). It discouraged me and I wasn't sure I could pull off the lavender/grey color I wanted anymore because everyone was saying my hair was too dark and that's why it would cost so much and take so long.However, the day I found Netta, she responded within minutes and I had my first appointment set up for the following day! I loved how responsive she was and during that appointment, she gave such great recommendations for a double process instead of a balayage which was the absolute right decision. I went in yesterday for my last session and I could not be happier. She is the greatest hairstylist I could imagine going to, and I honestly cannot say a single bad thing about her or the place or anything. I'm so glad I found Netta. She's the kind of hair stylist that I can trust with my color, cut, and is super honest and not hustling products on you or additional treatments for more $. She is definitely an expert in color and created my vision perfectly with a bayalombre (which I didn't think existed). Netta is the best! I was feeling a bit nervous to cut my hair beforehand, and she made 100% sure we were on the same page the whole way through. She gave me such great advice when I didn't know exactly what I wanted, and gave me the best cut and color I've ever had.
