Turtle Bay Confections

AVOID. DO NOT HIRE.

In May 2018, I hired Turtle Bay Confections to make my daughter’s birthday cake. The baker/owner’s responsiveness to my communications and inquiries for updates was very poor. Her lack of responsiveness kept me waiting, stressed out, and wondering if she was going to follow through and actually bake the cake. Despite knowing the start time of my daughter’s birthday party and despite the promised “ready” time, she was hours late, having it ready right at about the party start time. I ended up having to send my mom to pick up the cake from her because the party was starting. She was so late in getting the cake complete, that it was still wet and running when it got to our party.

In May 2019, I made the mistake of forgiving her prior issues. I thought maybe the prior year had been a fluke. I was so wrong. This year was even worse. SHE NEVER MADE THE CAKE OR COOKIES THAT SHE PROMISED. AT ALL.

I booked her to make a birthday cake and cookies for a party of 40 guests. She told me she was available to do this. She told me she would calendar me in to hold my spot. The party was 5/25/2019.

On 5/13/2019, I tried to talk details with her (cake/cookies design, size, number of cookies, flavors). She did not respond.

On 5/16/2019, I followed up with her. She did not respond.

On 5/17/2019, I followed up with her and asked her to assure me whether or not she would actually do the project for me. She claimed that she was in the middle of a big project and would get back to me on 5/20/2019. She reassured me that she could do this project for me and claimed she was holding a spot for me.

On 5/20/2019, she reached out to me as promised, but as soon as I started to get into the details of the party project and the work she was going to do, she stopped responding. She never finalized any details whatsoever on the project she said she would do (eg., cake/cookies design, size, number, flavors... nothing).

On 5/21/2019, I followed up with her again and suggested that we have a phone call if that was easier for her. She responded on 5/22/2019 and said she was available at 3pm that day for a phone call. I called her at the time she stated, but she did not answer. I left her a voicemail. She never called me back. I followed up with a message to her that day at 3:17pm. She never responded.

That is where she left me. On the Wednesday before my Saturday birthday party for my daughter, she left me with absolutely no response after promising to do this for me. She kept stringing me along for some reason, promising she would come through, but she didn’t. She left me high and dry only a few days before the party with no dessert.

I ended up having cake pops prepared by Treats by Taryn (delicious!) and a cake prepared by Publix (it did the trick!).
