Tara has 30 years of experience and it really is a jarring difference what this means for you and your dog. We have unlocked so much intelligence in our dog and have an improved understanding of one another. This is our dog after passing his AKC Good Citizenship Test. More...

Tara is the best. The seminar was crammed with way more information than expected and it made so much sense. She knows so much about dog behavior I was in awe of what I didn't know. She is an excellent speaker as well. Her presentation skills are such I could listen to her speak all day. More...

I have done the private trainings as well as the group classes. Tara is great about teaching you the techniques as well as the reasoning behind them. Through time my dog has gone from being unable to be in the same room as other people with her barking and carrying on to sitting on my mom's lap last time she visited.I've even had a group of people over to my apartment with my dog content play with toys or lay down on the floor while people go in and out, which would have been unthinkable before training with Tara. Now we're working on her reactive on-leash behavior through a group class with similar progress. I really enjoy my time in the these classes and have learned a lot, cannot recommend Training by Tara enough. More...

Feeling awesome after another great training session with Tara today. Each day, I'm getting closer to a leisurely walk, or jog with my pack without them wanting to "lunge", "bark" and try to "get" every dog we pass by. Thank you Tara for your professionalism, enthusiasm and constant encouragement. More...

I can't remember how I found Tara. I think just surfing online. We had a home visit and also I went to their location for the initial consultation with my foster dog. Very thorough, great information and immediate results. She is a natural, a true animal lover, with an impressive background who has personally trained her staff. I highly recommend Training By Tara for anyone that wants to gain a better understanding of their dog and regain control. More...

I found Tara and TDAWG Texas Differently Abled Working Group through a volunteer at Austin Pets Alive. What an amazing group of Furries and people and Tara and her team are amazing. I have a blind-deaf dog named Keller and I am not exaggerating when I say that she has changed her life!

Keller had just lost her furry sister and was suffering from major anxiety and OCD and I went, hoping that Tara could help her feel more confident. Well...my expectations have been blown away. I have a relaxed, confident and happy, thriving dog who has not only learned basic obedience skills through touch commands but her favorite part of class is the agilty.

Yes folks, our TDAWG group of blind or deaf and blind-deaf dogs weave through poles, jump fences, climb A-frames, teeter-toters and run through tunnels; all using scented oils. It is amazing to see and be a part of.

Finding Tara and this group was one of the best days of my life and Keller's life. It not only proves what a great trainer Tara is, but also how amazing and smart our differently abled dogs are. If you are looking for a new friend...don't overlook a deaf or blind or deaf-blind dog.

And as for Tara...I highly recommend her and her team.

Tara and the staff at Training by Tara are awesome. She knows dogs, understands their behavior and seeks to train the owner to understand their dog. With Tara is is not just about teaching a dog to sit and stay, it is about helping you to understand your family member so you can develop the relationship you desire. She lives for helping at risk dogs- she has a heart of gold when it comes to the misunderstood dogs of this world.

As for me and my pup, she is a rescue pup on the was starting to show aggressive behavior. Tara came in, Explained her behavior in a way that just made sense. She told us a few changes to make and we instantly started seeing improvement. I have had her at Tara's for obedience 1&2, and agility. Everywhere I go, I am now complemented on how well behaved my dog is, at which point I usually start my Training by Tara Rant. Trust me, you will not regret the decision to go here for your training needs.

I had heard about Training By Tara from my daughter Erin Hartiens-Santiago as I have recently adopted from the Boston Terrier rescue all the way from OK came a pure bred Bulldog on her dad's side and bulldog, Staffordshire and some kind of border collie or something. Of course she looks like a "pit bull" and I live in a retirement community....so there is a LOT of avoidance when we're out. I have some "issues" and would like for Dottie to end up being a SD. I had my first lesson with Nik this past Saturday, and I was SO excited to be getting some professional help, I can't even tell you. Now let me say when I get excited, my mouth turns into a faucet......poor, poor Nik - but she was GREAT with me and even better with Dottie. She presented things in a way that I could understand and I feel can transfer that knowledge to Dottie.....you see I'm 66 y/o, so things are a bit different for me. Nik never made me feel stupid (I was so afraid I would be stupid about it, and not be able to do what she asked). BUT, let me tell you - after explaining what we were going to do, showing me what we were going to do, and than asking me to do it......I DID IT!!!! We covered some issues that Dottie is having....she is very excitable and has very poor "door etiquette". I could have stayed all day and just listened to all that Nik had to say (pretty sure she's happy that didn't happen...lol). I am SO open to learning the correct way to train my dog by someone I can trust! I look forward to our next meeting! More...

There are just not enough stars to give! We rescued our boxer, Phoebe, six months ago when she was around 1.5 years old. Although she was well behaved in our place, we noticed her becoming increasingly reactive towards other dogs while on walks - barking, lunging, whining, etc. We quickly signed up for basic obedience and then completed Reactive Walkers with Tara and now have a completely different - happy, confident and responsive - dog!

Tara has shown us how to protect and direct Phoebe, and how to read her body language. Thanks to Tara's guidance, Phoebe can now happily play with other pups after a proper introduction! Tara and her staff are amazing - so patient and friendly - and we can't wait to go to more classes. I cannot recommend highly enough!

Tara is by far the best dog trainer we have ever worked with. Unlike many other trainers, she doesn’t follow a formulaic process with every dog. As our dominant and challenging dog has aged, she has been there with us every step of the way, adapting his training as needed. I don’t know where we would be without her. If you need help with a dominant or aggressive dog, Tara is the person to call. She can be pretty busy, so book appointments as early in advance as possible. More...

She offers a wide variety of training. She's patient with owners and dogs who are learning new behaviors that lead to a wonderful harmony in their households. She approaches dog training as not just changing dogs behavior, but training humans on how to behave to get the results they want to see in good in their dogs behavior. She values safety for dogs by keeping her classes at a reasonable size and makes sure every human and dog gets the same amount of attention. I have seen fantastic results with my dogs and we will continue to use her services and attend her seminars to further expand our knowledge about dog behavior and how humans should interact with their canine companions. Tara offers low-cost training classes for dogs that come from animal shelters. I love that. My dog Oreo is a rescue who was on the kill list and is extremely fearful and will cower when someone comes near him. He loved Tara. He respected her, tried to follow her commands, and when he got off track, she got his attention. Dog training is not just for dogs though - Tara helped me understand how to correct my own behavior so that Oreo will be more confident but still regard me as the pack leader. I was sending mixed messages with my hands and the tone of my voice. She explained things to me in a very simple way and I was able to take her suggestions and implement them immediately upon coming home. Tara has a heart for animals and it shows. Your dog will love meeting her! More...
