Q&As

Writing, communicating, storytelling — all of these arts and crafts fascinate, challenge and satisfy me. I began writing as a girl, starting a neighborhood newspaper in my small Pennsylvania town. While earning a journalism degree from American University in Washington, D.C., I interned with local newspapers and with a national news service. I've always been game for exploring new ideas and finding the best, most interesting and most comprehensive ways to share any story on which I am working. My two favorite quotes about writing are "Specificity is the soul of credibility" (Journalist Peggy Noonan) and "There are no small stories" (Bill Storm, my father, a 40-year newspaper reporter with the Philadelphia Bulletin.)

In 2006, when I launched my business,Top Drawer Communications, I had two goals: First, I'd freelanced before (for 12 years when my children were young) and enjoyed the freedom, flexibility and ability to choose my own clients. And second, I sought a freelance schedule because I was writing a book, "Bright Lights of the Second City: 50 Prominent Chicagoans on Living with Passion and Purpose." It was published in 2014 to very good reviews.

My track records speaks for itself. I'm an award-winning writer with special expertise in public/media relations and health care, nonprofits, and small business. An accomplished generalist, I genuinely am always eager to learn of every client's goals, challenges, objectives and passions. I know how to "get the job done," with very little direction from a communications perspective. I work well collaboratively or on my own. My employers and clients have included some of Chicago's finest organizations, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, North Shore University Health Systems, Anixter Center, Lincoln Park village, and Heartland Health Centers.
