My wife and I have had a year to reflect on this since the wedding and I’m finally glad to publish it. For anyone that’s reading this review, I can only imagine the stress you’re feeling and sheer magnitude of items that you will need to address ahead of the wedding and things that you probably have not even thought of yet.
Now imagine that and transporting yourself to the other side of the world (12 time zones away) and you may feel a sense of hopelessness or lack of control over such a creative process.
For my wife and I, that was exactly how we felt when we set out to plan our San Diego wedding from the UAE (San Diego because I’m from there). Now enter Thomas, a very friendly, easy to get along with person and very well connected in the event planning industry – additionally, he has an incredible attitude, bringing a sense of calmness and measured control during the planning and execution phase.
We started a year out for planning this wedding and during the first eight months, it was the occasional email on “let’s decide this because this is when we need to decide it” which was perfect given the time difference and our busy schedules. Crunch time came around T-4, when we were planning to meet Thomas for the first time (he was hired based on an initial Skype interview and seeing him plan other weddings for my family members). As expected, our schedules changed and we could only be in San Diego a month later; “no worries” said Thomas, all vendor were able to accommodate the schedule change with the utmost courtesy. Meeting Thomas for the first time at the Park Hyatt Aviara, we ate our way through a 20-course taster to dwindle the selection down to 8 choices. We picked out the final invitations with the meal choices and stopped by Blush Botanicals to see the proposed table settings and florals. I’m certain there was a ton of work in the background but to us, it was effortless and fun.
We come back to San Diego a week before the wedding with what we thought was a nearly finalized wedding plan, but we had a few ideas to make the wedding more fun and enjoyable for our guests. Conversations from one week out began and all ended like this:

Us: Hi Thomas, can we please have an ice luge for next weekend next to the bar outside?
Thomas: Of course, I know a good ice sculptor. How big do you want it and what do you want inscribed?

Us: Hi Thomas, can we ask Melissa to print out detailed itineraries for all of the guests given it’s a 3-day event?
Thomas: Of course, I’ll coordinate with her.

Us: Hi Thomas, can we order 100 cubes of Dom gummy bears as party favors from Sugarfina and add custom stickers thanking the guests?
Thomas: Definitely, ship them to my house and I’ll work on it with Melissa

Us: Hi Thomas, can we make 50 hangover kits for the guests staying at the hotel?
Thomas: Yes, these are the items I suggest…
I think you get the message here – the answer was never a no and no request was too much. We even asked to have free roaming peacocks at our farewell brunch – Thomas enquired and then suggested that we shouldn’t have them because they shed their feathers in October; featherless peacocks wouldn’t be too fun and we passed upon Thomas’ suggestion. In hindsight, we probably could have asked Thomas to import some from Australia for the brunch and he probably would have found a way. It’s this measured calmness and impression of being in control (and actually being in control) that gave us the calmness and confidence to push to the finish line. Having a panicked and tough to deal with wedding planner would have deteriorated our event which thankfully Thomas was not in any way.
A couple things to note: communication with Thomas was easy and effortless. You can always expect prompt replies to any questions or requests. He is a reasonable person and presents himself confidently, something that is very important when we’re all about to embark on something that we have never done before. We really enjoyed working with Thomas and hope others will have the same opportunity as well.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Thomas Bui. We have now made it through both our kids’ weddings, and could not have done it without Thomas and his amazing team - Bonnie, Rachel and Rob.
You feel like you’re his only client. And whatever your budget, he treats it like it’s the most amazing wedding in the world. Just look at his website and you will see his creativity and passion for design. He listens to your vision and then figures out ways to enhance it. He doesn’t try to change it. He understands it’s YOUR wedding. And you can trust him completely.
He asks questions and makes suggestions - many times things you wouldn’t have thought about. He has an extensive list of recommended vendors for varying budgets.
But the truly exceptional value of Thomas’ skills is right before and on wedding day. He confirms every detail with all the vendors, venue arrangements etc. right before the day. Then on wedding day, he and his team are there, from first thing in the morning until the venue shuts down. Everything runs smoothly. You don’t need to think about anything, because Thomas and his team have thought about everything. All you have to do is enjoy the day. This is so important for EVERYONE - bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents on both sides. Things go wrong, but Thomas handles them behind the scenes and you never know it. You are free to enjoy your very special day.

Thomas was my sister’s wedding planner a few years ago, and she never stopped raving about how amazing he was. That’s why when my wife and I got engaged he was the first person I called.
Are we glad we did? HECK YES! Thomas went above and beyond our expectations. We had no idea all the details that go into planning a wedding. If we didn’t hire Thomas we would have been in over our heads.
My wife and I aren’t the most “organized” people. Thomas made the wedding planning so simple and easy for us. He kept us on track throughout the entire process. He made sure we checked everything off our “TO-DO” list, and reminded us of important deadlines. I remember calling Thomas a few times “freaking out” during the planning process, and he helped calm me down and refocus on the tasks at hand.

I spent a year planning my wedding with Thomas Bui and I couldn't be more upset that it's over! From the second that I spoke with Thomas on the phone to check if he'd be available to plan my wedding, I knew I'd hire him. I hired him July 2017 and got married May 2018. He is amazing to work with. From negotiations with vendors to picking linens and designing floral arrangements, Thomas does it all. Aside from being organized and on top of every single vendor (he doesn't take crap from anyone!!), he takes the time to check in on you to see how you and your family are doing. He has incredible attention to detail and makes sure that everything is perfect at all times. He has a spectacular vision that is amazing to see come to life. I really put all my trust into Thomas and he did not disappoint. I had told him about the overall look I was going for and less than a week later he had come up with the decor and color scheme. It made me feel at ease because he understood exactly what I wanted and totally delivered. I'm a pretty anxious person but Thomas helped make my wedding day the easiest day. He has a team of amazing people he works with that cater to your every need the day of. I found Thomas by looking at some instagram photos and his website, with absolutely beautiful designs. Everything from the beginning was so easy and once we met and chatted about the style and what I envisioned for the my wedding, he took it from there. He picked vendors that perfectly suited my personality and style, and completely respected my budget. I wanted lots of flowers and really only said the words elegant and lavender, and he created a design board with ideas and decorations I completely fell in love with. He is the sweetest person and fun to work with and communication regarding small details such as choosing plates, chairs, etc was a breeze because he had already narrowed everything down to something that worked perfectly for the venue and occasion. On the day of the wedding, his team was AMAZING. Bonnie was the nicest, sweetest woman who took care of me and did everything including steam my bridal party's dresses. She fixed my shoes, carried my train, and made sure everything was perfect. The planning came out even more beautiful and spectacular than I could have ever imagined and everyone was talking about how amazing the ballroom looked. I started planning my wedding in November 2016, a year in advance. I knew I wanted a wedding planner and I started looking at the recommended vendors listed by our Wedding Venue. I interviewed one planner, and almost settled, Im so glad I didnt. This planner actually said Thomas Bui was her inspiration, so I decided to keep my appointment with Thomas. We met in a coffee shop in Bankers Hill and within 10 minutes I knew I had the right planner. His style is impeccable and his taste is exquisite, just like mine. The beauty of hiring Thomas is he figures you out, your tastes and his vision is based off you, but even better. Throughout the year of planning, I continually heard from friends and family how at ease I was and what little stress I had. The reason is because I had Thomas, he took care of everything. Throughout the planning he never seemed flustered himself. His responses to emails and text messages were prompt. My guests not only told me my wedding was the most beautiful they had ever seen but that the evening itself was magical. My only complaint about thomas is that I dont get to see him every week now, I enjoyed the entire process from beginning to the sweet bitter end. Having worked in the wedding planning industry in the past, I really did not think I would need a planner when it came time for my own wedding. Plus, with my mother's help, we had all of our vendors booked within the first two months of being engaged, with over a year to spare until the actual wedding! However, since we were planning the wedding from 3,000 miles away, we figured it would be beneficial to have someone "on the ground" in San Diego. That is when my mother and I found Thomas Bui. Despite my 1.5 year engagement, Thomas made it feel like my wedding was his #1 priority-even over others whose weddings were sooner than mine. He promptly responded to emails (any time of day or night) and would return missed phone calls within a matter of minutes. Most importantly, Thomas was able to create my exact wedding vision, clarifying ideas to vendors when my words got lost in translation via numerous email communications. He is an incredible listener, and helps keep you on track if the process of making decisions overwhelms you. His attention to detail is unmatched by anyone else in the business, and he truly perfects every single aspect.even down to the welcome bag gift tags! This level of detail also comes in handy for the "day-of" timeline. Thomas and his brilliant team made sure everyone was on schedule, but did it in such a way that it still felt very relaxed and not rushed. As with any wedding, there was a small glitch beyond anyone's control, but he and his team handled the situation with such grace and discretion, not a single wedding guest knew about it. My husband and I met Thomas through a family friend. Due to unfortunate circumstances with our previous planner, we met Thomas only 3 month before our wedding date. He stepped in immediately with such professionalism and grace. I was a very "hands on" bride, but with all things I knew they were being taken care of and handled properly. The day of our wedding was simply a dream. Thomas and his team delivered beyond words…allowing all of us to just be in the moment and enjoy the fun. The most stressful part of our wedding was honestly the search for a wedding planner. Once we found Thomas Bui and his team, it was stress free from there on out. He works with your budget, your style, your FAMILY, coordinating all the vendors, literally everything. Thomas and his team were highly organized, and did a great job exceeding our expectations. As the owner of an entertainment company, I have performed with bands on countless weddings, and a great wedding planner can make all the difference between an okay event and a seamless, outstanding celebration. From the band's perspective, a wedding planner truly is the glue that keeps all of the moving parts in a wedding working in tandem, and Thomas Bui has this skill down to a science. Because of Thomas and his team I had nothing but a positive experience planning this wedding out of state. I found Thomas through Yelp. My now husband and I read a few of his reviews and decided to give him a call. It was the best decision I ever made regarding this wedding (aside from marrying my husband!) I live in Oklahoma and we wanted to get married some place in Southern California. Thomas stayed in my budget and made the whole process quite easy. He brought me the best vendors to work with because he already had a lot of experience working with them. We only had to go out to California twice, once to pick the venue and once to get the rest of the details in place. From an entertainment standpoint, attention to detail is very important as well as communication and a clear vision as to what the client wants for their special day as far as entertainment is concerned. But this goes much deeper than just the show itself. The behind the scenes details are just as important.Thomas is always quick to respond to questions and takes the time to meet and speak with us as much as it takes to ensure that everyone is on the same page and that all details are worked out. I honestly cannot recommend Thomas Bui enough. We found him through our venue on a list of recommended coordinators, and his work stood out by a mile. We were so excited to have found a coordinator who’s work looked so impeccable, and who was in our budget range. We were also extremely lucky he was able to work with us. Thomas was so responsive, attentive, and patient with us the whole process. He consistently, and immediately responded to any email, or call, or text we sent. He was always two steps ahead of us, and thought of EVERYTHING. We never had to worry if anything was done yet, because we knew he had everything under control. It was such a relief to have total and complete faith in him as a professional. He knows everyone. Thomas’s wealth of contacts in the industry was such a blessing. He seems to literally know everyone personally, and everyone loves him. My friend and I were looking at a venue for a bridal shower, and we met with the catering manager- who didn’t know Thomas was our planner- and he recommended him! By saying; “I know you’re only looking for shower venues right now- but if you need a wedding coordinator still, call Thomas Bui- he’s the best in the business!” We were like- “yeah. We know!!” This kept happening. EVERYONE loves Thomas, and because of this- everyone wants to help! He was able to recommend THE BEST vendors for us. He got to know us, and was able to recommend the best people to match our tastes and styles. Also, with this- he’s always on your side, and is trying to get the best for YOU!We never felt like his attention was divided. We really felt like we were an important client, and even though our budget wasn’t huge- he made us feel like first-class clientele. I know Thomas works with upper-crust society, and we were treated with total respect, and attention the whole time. He was always on our side, and was willing to help us out every step of the way. Thomas doesn’t take on more weddings than he can at once- to make sure he gives everyone his total attention, and this was VERY clear. His taste is impeccable. He has seen everything, and has the best eye, but is also totally adaptable to your personal taste. He entirely took on board our vision, and knew exactly what we were talking about. I had a very specific aesthetic I wanted to achieve, and most wedding coordinators I spoke with didn’t even understand, or want to throw us into a “packaged” kind of wedding. He knows the best of the best in the business so we got to work with some amazing people and vendors. The wedding planning process can be so overwhelming and stressful, but Thomas takes all that out of the equation for you. He knows all the best vendors and was amazing with helping us meet our budget. When we would casually mention something we wanted to do, he would always remember it and make it happen. I don't know how he does it but he responds to every email right away. The day of the wedding was completely flawless. My (now) husband and I did not worry about a single thing since everything was timed and taken care of behind the scenes. Thomas' team even went to our room and fed and walked our dog during the reception. What an amazing day, and what an amazing guy that made it all possible. We are a busy couple, but one that was as involved as we could be in arranging the most amazing day. We got Thomas Bui's full planning service which was a great decision! 2 religions, 3 languages, divorced parents, lots of opinions, stressful jobs, everyone's life is complicated. The only reason we were able to enjoy the planning process is that we had cool-headed Thomas who was on top of everything at every moment along the way.You don't know what you don't know, and that's one of the many reasons to get a great planner. Thomas is of course an expert in all the details involved in planning a great wedding, but he is also naturally an EXTREMELY detail-oriented person. That is the kind of person you want as a wedding planner, and this combined with his strong artistic sense is unique. We can say this because we met with a number of the best wedding planners in SD, and we were quite pleased that the decision was so clear to us. I cannot speak highly enough about Thomas Bui and his outstanding work. His attention to detail, patience, and level of expertise was simply out of this world. Thomas and his team made our dream wedding come true and then some.We first met him one year prior to our wedding, and the rest is history. From that point on he guided us every step of the way. I know nothing about weddings. Zero. But, Thomas helped us step by step starting with choosing a venue, picking out flowers, linens, decorations, and food options. He works with a huge network of vendors. If you describe to him an idea or a particular theme you're kinda interested in, he'll know who to call. He also has an incredible eye for design and aesthetics. If you're a wedding decoration noob like myself you could simply start talking and point to stuff and he'll figure out what you're going for and make it look even better than you could have imagined. He's like a wedding genie. He also hooked us up with the most badass ice luge you will ever see.Finally then, there's the wedding day. Lots of stress with people running amok all over the place and everything falling behind schedule, right? Wrong! Thomas and his elite team of wedding ninjas made sure everything went smoothly. And I mean SMOOTHLY. I don't think a single person was out of step the entire day. Every speech, every song, every hair on our heads was in place. One person on Thomas' team accompanied the groom and groomsmen, another accompanied the bride and bridesmaids, while the others stayed back at the venue to ensure that everything was set up properly. They accompanied us during the ceremony to ensure that everyone knew their places and seats then afterward rushed over to the reception to make sure everything was in place. It felt like a secret service team was running our wedding.In summary, I cannot express enough how awesome Thomas and his team were. I cannot explain just how awesome Thomas Bui was to work with! Wedding wire has a word limit, so I literally can't! :) But suffice it to say that Thomas is THE BEST. We feel incredibly lucky that we were able to work with him. He's immediately responsive 100% of the time. He thinks of everything one step ahead of you, and doesn't miss a single detail. He seems to literally know everyone, and was able to really match us with the best vendors to suit our styles, and always giving us lots of options. Worked very very well with the budget we outlined, and made it easy! Everyone loves him! All of our vendors really made it clear that they love to work with him. My husband and I met Thomas through a family friend. Due to unfortunate circumstances with our previous planner, we met Thomas only 3 month before our wedding date. He stepped in immediately with such professionalism and grace. I was a very "hands on" bride, but with all things I knew they were being taken care of and handled properly. He is such a talented man with true passion for the weddings he creates for this clients. The day of our wedding was simply a dream. I remember it so vividly and that's because all of our ideas were turned into reality thanks to Thomas. Thomas and his team delivered beyond words...allowing all of us to just be in the moment and enjoy the fun.
