There are not enough superlatives to describe our trip to the Southern. We arrived about 4:30 (during the anytime menu) and started with drinks, recommended by our server, and oysters.
We asked our server, the incomparable Landon, what other appetizer we should get to go with the oysters. His recommendation of the crab cakes was perfect. They are topped with a hominy relish that took them to a new level.
Landon's service never missed a beat the entire time we dined. His suggestions for our dinner were delicious. Pack a serious appetite if you order the porkchops, they are HUGE and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were creamy goodness. The chicken fried chicken was light and juicy a wonderful ham gravy on top. Substituting the greens for the butternut squash was a delicious choice.
Our only regret was having no room for dessert! Next time, Southern. Next time!

Great food, surprisingly fast service. Especially considering we were there right before playoff hockey game. The stakes are magnificent, and the people that were with really love the oysters. The fried green tomatoes were a flop. Wouldn't recommend them. Otherwise excellent place to go in downtown Nashville, I loved sitting outside and being out basically on the sidewalk. I really like The Southern. The Saffire Steak Biscuits are my favorite appetizer and the Southern Burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had. Let me start by saying this is a white table cloth, fine dining restaurant.. We weren't expecting that, but that's ok. It was so funny.
..We wanted raw oysters, so we were seated and the server brings the water and wine, and ask if we would like an app. I said yes, I would like a dozen raw. She ask what kind? I said raw... She said well we have about a dozen different kinds of raw, here is the oryster menu they range from $30-$100+
We had a Phenomenal dinner, It was a bit pricey..
For 2 of us our bill was around $280.00. with the house bottle of wine, app, and 2 entrees.

Excellent service and food. We were there for a quick after dinner dessert and drinks. Even with a busy Saturday night service, the service was spot on and focused.
I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the Downtown Nashville area.
