This is a great place to stay. Its in downtown area. Beautiful town! Just stayed this past wkend for a Xmas Party. Many different restaurants in walking distance. The only bad thing is parking. Parking is horrible. This isnt a place if u have kids and have to lug strollers around ect. Great place otherwise! I will definitely stay again. Thanks Monterey! More...

The historical styling and old furniture was beautiful. The breakfast was excellent for a free breakfast and even included gluten-free options.

I loved the antique staircases of the original part of the hotel. One of the reasons I picked this hotel was the zero waste touches. The shower had a refillable pump for shampoo, conditioner and body wash instead of the single use little bottles. The continental breakfast was delicious. Waffles and fresh fruit and no plastic cups or spoons. The best part was the staff. We were helped by three different staff during our two day stay and each was attentive and friendly and accommodating. Great location. The French bakery is just around the corner. More...

Very quaint and cute hotel with friendly staff and is truly walkable to everything in Monterey. The rooms are very clean and updated but with NO air conditioning and maybe tough to stay here during the warmest time of the summer. I stayed in September and my room never coold down not even in the wee hours of the morning. Otherwise a great hotel. More...

Hotel location was great and just 2 short blocks to the wharf though surprisingly the wharf food wasn’t very good and overpriced. The first room we were shown had a window that opened onto the street. It had a nice view of the town but was very noisy. It was a quiet day but somehow the street sounds were amplified and you could hear every passing car or person. Luckily we were able to move to a smaller room with a window facing the courtyard that was much quieter. This is an old restored hotel so there were signs not to overload the toilets and the television was extremely dated. The original elevator was not in service so we had to use the elevator on the street behind the hotel to get upstairs or take the stairway. There was an unloading zone on the rear street near the working elevator so unload your luggage there. There is no parking at the hotel but there is a public parking garage two blocks away. 24 hour rate was $7. There was also street parking but look carefully at the signs and painted curbs. One of the stalls in front of the hotel was painted green. This means 20 minute parking. Breakfast was included and was a decent assortment of pastry, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, coffee, juice etc. and assorted breads including a gluten free option. Hard boiled eggs upon request. Old fashioned charm. The staff wasn’t overly helpful, the porter did not assist with our luggage. Easy to get around and fine if you are able to walk a bit to the hotel and your room and can manage your own luggage. More...

We needed a room for one night, to attend a wedding in Monterey, and decided to give the Monterey Hotel a try. Despite being an old hotel, the rooms were comfortable and well-appointed. The location is amazing, w/ many quality restaurants and coffee shops in easy walking distance. Every staff person was pleasant and accommodating. My only complaint is the water pressure. Though perhaps inevitable in a historic California hotel, it was actually difficult to take a shower. My son had the same problem, so I know it wasn’t limited to just our room. ||Overall, the Monterey Hotel is a good place to stay. More...

Not a hardwood or natural wood anywhere and more than that, it was not clean and some kind of very heavy very noxious deodorizer was in the whole hotel with the exception (thank God) of our room. Overall, the hotel has a very cute old school charm. It was clean and its location to Fishermans Wharf is unbeatable. It was quite warm while I was there and Im assuming because of the age of the building, it dint have AC, just a ceiling fan. I slept with the window open to keep the air circulating. Because of its location in Old Town, you can hear everything from the street until the bars and restaurants close. More...

This is a really old hotel, so its like staying in a little piece of history of Monterey. But because its old, its kinda noisy. Take ear plugs as you can hear everyone coming and going. Tuesday nights is market night in the street right out the front of the hotel which is great to wander around. But you cant drive down that street so will need to park elsewhere if you are arriving on a Tuesday. More...

I like the old Victorian feel and the first time we had a room with a small garden-like area right outside of the window. It was super cute.
