Emily is so amazing and I haven't even worked with her face to face yet! My husband and I have been having some aggression issues with our two females (3 yrs. and 1 yr.). They had gotten into a little scuffle at the end of June and has since snowballed into something that is now out of our control. I contacted Emily, desperate for help. She got back to me almost immediately and took the time to chat with me and give me pointers on what to do until she can come and evaluate. She is pretty booked up, but has been in constant communication with me walking me through what to do as situations arise. I have an appointment with her on the 18th, but assured me she was going to everything she could to see me sooner, given the seriousness of our situation. I am so grateful for her already, and so excited to see what she can do when she can meet my girls in person. I will update my review once that happens, but I just had to say something about how amazing she is, she truly loves her job and cares about the animals well being, not just a paycheck. Thank you so much Emily for all your help. I appreciate you so much, you are awesome! More...
Every time I am in Eureka I go to Fin and Feather for all my aquarium needs.
Good selection and friendly staff.
Staff is always very helpful
Words cannot express how fabulous Emily is. She is truly exceptional and understands dog behavior better than anyone I've met before. I reached out to her in hopes to better understand my aggressive bulldog. After an hour and a half session my dog has been completely different. He isn't afraid to the same level and responds differently to us. I'm so grateful for what she did to help my family! More...
Wide range of food and pet accessories. Good variety of fish, tanks and the other items fish fanciers need. But best of all is their experienced and helpful staff.
Very friendly staff and a great room of aquariums which I recommend if you haven't been n to see it.

I am currently fostering a 2 year old German Shepherd/Shiba Inu mix named Fox, with adoption being our goal. For Fox, reactivity to other dogs has been her hardest struggle to overcome. This has made it impossible for her to go to daycare in the past, hikes, and walking when other dogs are out. That is not the life she deserves. So I called Emily, and that has been the best choice I could've made for Fox. Even with only 1 private and 1 group under our belts, I see drastic changes to Fox's behavior as Emily teaches me how to read and understand Fox better. It is helpful to know that Emily is available to reach via call, text, video chat to help. She even sends specific articles and videos too. Highly recommend training with Emily. More...

High quality pet store. Huge variety of dog, cat, bird treats. AMAZING aquarium section.
Really great selection, super friendly staff. Found everything I needed there for reasonable prices. Always nice to support a local petshop!
My husband and I rescued a 4 year dog who had extreme anxiety about anything you can think of, including fear of my husband and aggression toward him. We called Emily and she spent an entire hour on the phone with us before we even met or paid anything. She listened to all of our concerns and gave us suggestions. She came over and spent 2.5 hours training my husband and I on how to help our dog. We also went to a group class which was fantastic. Emily has continued to be available by phone and text for no additional costs when we have ANY question or concern at all. In fact, she wants you to call/text to keep her updated that's how dedicated she is to the success of your pet. I can't say enough about how Emily has helped change our lives and our relationship with our dog. He's doing great and has made huge strides in only 1 month. Thank you Emily!! You are the absolute best! More...
Great service and knowledgeable staff. My daughter found a fish she wanted, but the young man helping us took a very close look at the fish in the tank and spotted signs of a possible ich infection. He put thetank on quarantine. I'm very happy he was able to see that and save us the risk of infecting the healthy fish in our tank. More...

We rescued THE CUTEST 6 year old maltipoo. He is a really great dog in almost every way...our only issue is that he snapped at my two boys and sometimes at their friends. Now, I understood that he is 8 lbs and the boys look like these hyper giants to him, but I got him for them. I really didn't want to give him away, but he was looking to be more my dog than the boys'. So, Emily to the rescue. She worked with our family for about 1.5 hrs and trained the humans (because the dog was really not doing anything un-dog) how to interact better with the dog, how to shape the dog's behaviors so that he will look to us during times of stress, and she helped us understand a dog's mind. It has been about a month, and not one snap! In addition, she has checked in with me 3 times since the training. Amazing customer service and dedication to her clients' success. More...
I had a friend at work raving about Emily The Dog Listener. I jokingly asked if The Dog Listener also trained cats. The answer was YES.After paying a $1,700 vet bill to stitch up one cat that was attacked by another of our cats, I called Emily and set up an appointment. Best animal decision I've ever made. We have several cats, with one at the bottom of the totem pole. After coming over and assessing the situation, Emily made several recommendations. I'm super amazed at how well they've worked. There are two cats who are bullies. There's only been one incident per bully in the two months since Emily has been here. AMAZING!!!After the duration of our appointment, she spent her own time giving us extra tips and telling stories about her crazyily interesting life with animals. She absolutely has the experience to help you with your pet problems. Also, it is very apparent that she cares about your pets...and you!!! She helped us out of a very sticky situation and continues to touch bases to see how things are going.I am not losing her number. She gave us harmony in the home and I'm pretty sure she has saved me from future, very expensive vet bills.Thank you Very much!Mark More...

Always helpful with info with multiple type of pets. Very much appreciated.
What an AMAZING experience!! Michelle was so helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with my myriad of puppy related questions. One of my favorite local pet stores. This place is jam packed full of products, they have excellent variety and selection for all your domestic pets. Friendly staff and clean shop. This is the best fish store in Humboldt, they have a large fish room with 4 500+ gallon tanks right in the middle and it's dark for your fish viewing pleasure. We contacted Emily for help training our 4 month old Havanese puppy, Baxter. She called me back right away and we set up an appointment. When Emily arrived, I was amazed by the way she instantly connected with Baxter. Baxter and I learned so much in one session. It's hard to believe that one session can make such a difference but it really did. His jumping, biting, barking all improved dramatically. Emily gave us tools and super clear direction. I feel like we have a great foundation to build on. I also love how accessible Emily is. She's a great resource and she let us know that we can always contact her with questions. We are looking forward to our first group lesson tomorrow and a pack walk next week. We highly recommend Emily. She's extremely knowledgeable and very easy to work with. More...
I should start by saying this review is long overdue, given that, I am still beyond pleased as I was say one with my experiences with Emily. Whether it's over the phone, in person, or in a group walk, Emily puts your dogs needs first and makes sure she empowers you through teaching. Her knowledge and experience training is obvious in her results. When implemented, her techniques show a night and day difference in my dogs. Part of her magic is the attention she gives to your dogs and getting to know what your dogs needs are so that the training is specific to their temperament and responsiveness. I've been through an incredible amount of trainers and Emily is hands down the one I will return to every single time. Her prices are reasonable especially with all the services she gives you (phone conversations, follow up emails, quality training). I spent way too much money on a trainer previous to Emily, and let's just say that I (and my boys) got more out of a few hours with Emily then we did weeks with the other trainer. You won't be disappointed, her dedication to your animals is unmatched. More...
We recently adopted a 4.5 month old male Golden Retriever and had some issues with mouthing and biting especially around little ones. We contacted Emily and she came to our home for a private session right away. She was extremely thorough and has amazing abilities ... within the first 30 minutes, our puppy was already behaving significantly better. She provided us with the proper guidance on how to handle biting situations and overall behavior control which all work incredibly well. We literally noticed a night and day improvement in our puppy's behavior and response at the conclusion of our session with Emily. To this day, his behavior continues to improve. We also brought him out on one of Emily's free group walks which helped boost his confidence which has helped as well. Also, since our session, we have reached out to Emily via text with questions and she is always very prompt to respond with detailed information; she offers continuous contact via phone, text, email and FaceTime at no charge which is wonderful!!! We are so thankful for Emily and the amazing work she does! She truly takes vast pride in her work and it shows through and through! We have already recommended her to many of our fiends and family ... if you want the best dog trainer around, contact Emily!!! You won't be disappointed! More...
Emily is amazing we rescued an 8 month old am staff mix and were completely in over our heads. Emily taught us how to help her grow and was a life saver. Emily is the most amazing dog behaviorist I have ever worked with. She helped our family transform our dog into a confident, social and good canine citizen. We adopted him as a rescue, neglected and abused, so he came us to work a slew of issues. Over the course of time, he had transformed into a lovely dog we are proud to walk down the street with and have in our family. Emily is able to think outside of the box in each individual situation and with each dog. She really is magic, and worth every penny. Her ongoing support is incredible, she goes above and beyond every time. I would recommend Emily every time for everyone!!!! More...
I was searching for the right Dog Trainer/Behaviorist when I found Emily, was struggling with my German Shepherd and finding the right method of training! from the moment I had a short phone conversation to the 1st meeting I knew Emily was completely different from any dog trainer I had met In the past she immediately corrected my bad habits and helped me on the very first session to take control and have immediate response time with hand gestures, body language, Everything she has taught me I use in our daily lives , walks with my dogs has become enjoyable again , I couldn't recommend her and the Sunday classes enough, and once you've gotten her methods of training down please join her free pack walks with former and current clients, it's a great way to actually see the results and that the hard work has paid off. Life with my Shepherd now is so much more enjoyable, Thank you Emily for everything you do for dogs from Kash and Penny More...
It's amazing the progress that we have made with our 6 year old boxer Tucker, even after the first session with Emily! She truly understands our fur babies and makes sure and WANTS you to also understand. I was never able to walk both dogs (my 13 year min pin) and my fiancé's boxer because Tucker was too much to handle. We now understand what we need to do to help him feel calm and not scared. We've learned how to speak to him, how to guide him on walks, how to manage him when people come to our home. I honestly am beyond impressed that even after the first training we saw changes. We are continuing to do one on one training sessions because I'm enjoying the progression and loving the fact that I'm now having the excitement to walk both dogs and form a bond with Tucker. I can't say enough amazing things about Emily, just give it one session and you'll see! More...
Emily is an excellent, skilled, and dedicated K-9 behaviorist. We have a Rottweiler and Emily provided us with specific strategies and methods so we can be leaders for our dog. She gave guidance, modeled appropriate techniques, as well as spent enough time so we could practice and be comfortable implementing what she taught us. She helped us with obedience, leash work, socialization, and so much more. We participated in group class where we could practice in a group setting and in new locations in the community. Our family is complete and manageable because of Emily's dedication and excellence in the field. Her availability and flexibility contributed to our successes. Emily is an asset to the community! Emily is an amazing dog trainer! I found her on Yelp, and she replied to my message right away. I appreciated that she took the time to have a lengthy phone conversation with me before scheduling the appointment. We have a very energetic corgi puppy, and she was able to help us with simple commands, ways to keep her "busy" while we are gone at work, and leash walking. Now we can take Lemon on calm walks without her pulling the leash! We are very grateful for Emily's help. She was encouraging and Lemon loved her right away. Emily offers classes on Sunday that we are planning to attend in the near future. Thank you! More...
Emily is absolutely amazing! Her website and Facebook page are excellent at explaining her philosophy and how she goes about working with dogs and people!! I was very glad that she was able to work with Genie (2 year old border collie mix) and me very quickly. At her suggestion we went to the Oceanside Pier where there were lots of distractions. Emily tried various collars and methods to see what was going to work best with Genie and that I would be comfortable with. She recommended a prong collar which had worried me before, but Genie had no issues with it. She showed me how to focus on Genie and not the distractions or things that might be threatening. Just one private session and Genie and I are already making progress in the walks being fun again! No battles just quiet asking, much more fun! I also liked the fact that Emily had suggestions and was looking for ways that would work for both Genie and I. There were no cookie cutter solutions, every suggestion was based on her experience and how Genie was responding or how I was handling the solutions. It was an extremely positive session! I've been to one of Emily's Sunday group sessions and really enjoyed being able to work Genie with other dogs and have her enjoy it! She was worn out in a good way when we got home. I'm looking forward to more group lessons as well as one on one. I want to be able to walk her reliably and eventually be able to let her off leash as the various beaches that allow it!. I feel extremely confident that we will be successful with Emily showing us the way.I highly recommend Emily. Her prices are reasonable and her approach to training is excellent. I'm looking forward to more sessions and learning to listen to my dog and understand what she needs. More...
I am so amazed at how quickly Emily helped us get our puppy to stop biting & jumping on us as well as sleep quietly in her crate at night. That alone was worth every penny! Our puppy is a joy now, truly priceless. She also has trained us how to teach her to walk without pulling us & jumping like a crazy pup. We are able to enjoy the time with her without yelling "NO" all the time. Emily is a master in her field! More...
Emily is by far the best! Our dog had such extreme behavioral issues I honestly was ready to give her up! We had tried many different dog training schools, trainers, including private lessons, vet visits etc. nothing was working since our dog was an extreme case. Despite our best efforts, her behavior only worsened. Once we began working with Emily, I could tell we finally found an expert who knew more then just one aspect. She was extremely knowledgeable in everything (including and far beyond dog training). I would have expected I'd need at least 4 different professionals to glean what we did working with Emily alone. She helped tremendously with everything from training & behavioral issues, emotional/anxiety issues, even recommended specific tests from the vet (none of which the vet had thought of). In addition to training, Emily helped us pin point food allergies, anxiety causes, and a LOT of other things. All of which collectively made our dogs behavior completely transform! She shared such immense insight into the reasons for our dogs behavior issues! There was a wide variety of information Emily brought to our situation, and she did so with such pose, never made me feel like I failed, just gave many amazing tools to press forward. She's direct, yet posed with kindness. Emily is extremely knowledgeable and reads the animals better then any of the other "high end" trainers we had tried before her. I can honestly say if it weren't for her I would have given this dog away. Now our dogs behavior is unrecognizable (in a positive way) in comparison. She's no longer a lot if work but a lovely family companion we all adore and enjoy whole heartedly. Thank you Emily! Our dog is a happy healthy loving family pet now thanks to you! More...
Emily is extremely knowledgeable and helpful! We did an in-home session and my dog listened to her immediately. I was amazed! She was great at explaining techniques and tips to help us with our dog. Emily is Outstanding!Basically, if you love your dog, they deserve the ABSOLUTE BEST TRAINER. Emily is devoted, compassionate, committed dog trainer. In just two hours in our home, our 8 month old puppy with bad habits had his world turned around thanks to Emily. Our family members learned how to take charge, be the leader, and to alleviate his anxiety and fears. Our 55 pound puppy refused to go for walks, and now with the help from Emily, he walks twice a day, and is loving it! I highly recommend EMILY, she the DOG WHISPER!!! She actually deserves 10 stars , five is not enough. Thanks again Emily! More...
Emily is amazing!!! I have a blue nose pit bull mix rescue dog. He has fear issues and is reactive. I met with other trainers before Emily and they didn't teach me about communicating with my dog and how to understand him. Emily and I met for a couple private sessions and she taught me so much about how to understand this particular breed and how to help him when he is scared. She guided me on how to hold his leash, speak to him and advocate for him. I now take my dog to Emily's Sunday group class and I honestly never thought that we would be attending a group class!! I would definitely recommend Emily especially if you have a bully breed dog. Emily has vast knowledge about this breed and I am so thankful for the techniques she has shared with me!! More...

Emily is outstanding! Our dog's behavior has improved dramatically due to her valuable sessions and ongoing support and guidance. So happy we found her. She also offers unlimited text, emails and calls with private sessions which is so appreciated! Highly highly recommend Emily! Her training with other fiercer animals truly differentiates her from other trainers. She knows how to control and tame animal behavior inside and out. More...
Emily is amazing! We are so glad we found her. We are first time puppy parents of a 4 month old English Bulldog girl. We got her a month ago and we have done extensive research (books, online, videos) about puppy raising prior to having her. The problem is there is so much conflicting information out there and we were completely overwhelmed. And since this is the first time for us to have a puppy in our household we have had a lot of frustrating and confusing moments (eg. potty training, mouthing, loose leash walking etc). We were very eager to understand our puppy and be able to communicate with her and thus we reached out for help and found Emily.Emily responded to our query almost instantly and had a call to discuss our problems and her plan with us. She has extensive experience with dogs, and other animals (big cats, reptiles!). She is very open and flexible and recommended a private session with us. On the day of our session, she came in prepared with rope toy, marrow bones and different kinds of leashes. She listened to our concerns but we could also tell she genuinely cares about the well-being of our puppy. For example, she wouldn't use a choke chain on our puppy because it might hurt her delicate neck. She tried a slip leash and observed closely how our puppy reacted so that it wouldn't hurt her or cause much discomfort. We are really glad that she truly cares about our puppy instead of just trying to make her do what we want and ignores her feelings. When teaching our puppy the "down" position, Emily saw that moving the treat straight down to the ground doesn't work because of Bulldog's wide shoulders/heavy top body so instead of moving the treat straight down she moved it down with an angle and voila - our puppy got down right away. We practiced with our puppy in the next few days and now she got it right almost every time. We are really happy with the results. We would highly recommend Emily to any dog owners who wants to communicate with their dog more effectively. We feel like she is a mediator between us (human) and our puppy. Often time we just want our dog to obey but we forget we have to listen and understand our dog as well. What sets Emily apart from other trainers is her genuine interest and care of our puppy. She is thorough, observant and considerate. After our session she wrote us a very detailed follow-up email with all the points we went over highlighted and some extra tips for us. We couldn't be happier with Emily and we will definitely go to one of her group class on Sunday in the near future. Thank you Emily. More...
This is a long over due review. Emily is incredible, our dog Mission is so much better on leash after working with Emily. The thing is, I am not sure she trained our GSD as much as she trained us. We will be attending group classes as often as we can. I highly recommend Emily. More...
Emily has a gift in working with animals. We have a cockapoo puppy named Abby and contacted Emily to come to our house and help train us so we would be better prepared to train Abby. Emily was amazing in communicating with us and our puppy and gave us invaluable suggestions on how to potty train, discourage nipping and chewing as well as how to begin leash training. She has great ideas on treats and demonstrating the importance of body language and tone of voice when training. What is appreciated most is that after she leaves, Emily doesn't just disappear. She is in constant contact to see how things are going and asking if we have any questions and is always available for help if needed. In only 2 weeks after working with Emily, Abby is well on her way to being potty trained and is much better behaved and does less puppy nipping and chewing. The leash training is a work in progress but Abby shows improvement daily. Emily you are awesome. More...
Exactly what our family needed. I was a little worried since my partner couldn't come to the first one on one training I didn't want to waste his money. But as soon as I met with Emily I was focused and wanted to learn everything from her not one second was wasted, if your wondering if you should schedule a one on one session, just do it, every second will be worth it. I love her training tools and skills for our dog and how every dog might have different training needs. The leash training is very important and she focused on training me to walk my dog.We went to her group class today and it was just as good! We learned additional new skills while reenforcing what we learned in our private lesson. It's been so well worth it, we are excited to work on our skills with our dog and go back to another group class to see how we are doing. There's a reason why you don't see a single review under 5-stars on here. Emily rocks! I have a 4 yr old rescue Doberman who was very dog reactive. Walking her was stressful and embarrassing. I would never even consider walking a busy trail on a Saturday morning and was envious of everyone else who could. After meeting with Emily for one session, I learned the psychology behind my dog's behavior and what I needed to do to improve that behavior. She was extremely thorough. It all came together during that session and we left with a clear plan. It's been 1 month and we walk by large barking dogs without any trouble. In fact, I seek out big dogs to practice walking by. My relationship with my dog has been strengthened. I'm not frustrated with her anymore and she definitely respects me as the pack leader. I have since referred my brother to Emily who has a puppy Labradoodle. He is singing her praises now as well. She is so smart and knowledgeable and is not a "one size fits all" trainer. She utilizes many different methods depending on your dog. There will be work involved on your end. You have to put the time in but Emily really means it when she says, "Call, text or email me any questions." She even sends a follow-up email detailing everything from your session.I was in your same position, trying to decide if it was worth the investment, pouring over reviews, trying to make a decision. Call Emily. I promise the day after your session, you will join the rest of us in saying, "I just wish I would have called sooner." You can have the relationship you've always wanted with your dog(s). Whether you have a dog with major "issues" or just need basic instruction on how to work with a new puppy, you can't go wrong with the Dog Listener. More...
Emily has been a life saver. She knows so much about animal language and behavior and applies this to building strong relationships between owners and their dogs. I have a 5 year old rescued boxer who has a history of being dog and sometimes human reactive. It got to the point where I was scared to walk him by myself. With Emily's help, my attitude has completely changed and I feel so much more confident handling my dog even in busy areas or when other dogs are around. After attending just a few group classes, I learned so much about communicating with my dog through my tone of voice, posture, and eye contact. I never have to use harsh corrections or negative reinforcement to have my dog understand what I am asking him to do. We now go on weekly pack walks with other dogs and dog owners and have play dates with a select few dogs. Being around other dogs in a controlled environment has helped immensely. Do you have something you need to work on with your dog? Emily can and will make it happen. We are forever grateful for everything she has taught us. More...
I cannot recommend Emily highly enough. We adopted a 3 year old chocolate lab about 1 month prior to reaching out to Emily and she could not have been more genuine. Once we attended our first training session we were blown away with her knowledge, patience, and encouragement. She truly cares about us as owners and our dog's success. Emily is even willing to come before and stay after her class to help give more training and attention as needed. She has taught us how to be better owners and provide a happy home for our puppy. She truly is an excellent teacher, leader, and trainer. We could not have asked for a better experience. We can't thank her enough for helping us and would recommend her to anyone in need of training or even just wanting to bond with their dog. More...
I have a 5 year old BBM with dog reactivity/aggression issues. We have worked with countless trainers and behaviorists over the years-from the purely positive folks to balanced trainers to the so-called "yank and crank" old school trainers. We made a lot of progress fumbling around with various methods, but never fully resolved my dog's issues. For example, my dog could walk past other dogs on leash without any problems, but if we were sitting at a dog friendly café and another dog walked by, my dog would explode.A few friends suggested I contact Emily, but I put it off for over a year. When my dog's behavior took an unexpected nose dive, I finally emailed Emily. It's been a little over 2 weeks since I reached out to her and so far we have attended 2 group classes and 1 private class. In 1 private lesson, Emily addressed my biggest issue with my dog - sitting down at a dog friendly cafe. Something that I have been battling with for over 4 years and no trainer has been able to help me with. We sat down at the Dana Point Harbor as dog after dog walked by and my dog remained calm and did not break his down stay. The best part is I was able to return to the same location the next day and get the same results on my own. Wahoo!!!Emily is truly gifted with animals. We have other issues to work on, so we will be seeing her again soon. If you are struggling with your dog, whether you have seen a million trainers or not, just contact her. I am so happy I finally did. This review will be updated as we continue our training with Emily. More...
We STILL love Emily. Lol. Brutus is continuing to improve and he has really come a long long way from how he was when I first adopted him. All thanks to Emily's guidance and leadership. She has taught me how to be a better owner so I can teach Brutus how to be a better dog. She will ALWAYS be the only person I trust with my dog (and any future dogs I may adopt on a whim lol) More...
We put off training our dog for six years thinking we could handle all of her behaviors on our own. We recently got a second dog, and realized we needed help! I found Emily through yelp, and based on her reviews figured she was worth a try. I did not have high expectations of success given the level of anxiety our first dog suffers from, due to an attack early on in her life, but we were desperate. Emily spent 3 hours with our dogs and family, both inside the home and out on walks. She really understood the unique personalities of each of our dogs, and what they needed in order to be more comfortable and confident members of our family. She gave us a ton of useful tips to use with each dog based on each of their needs. The next day my kids and I took the dogs out for a walk, and it was as if we were walking two completely different dogs! Within a day Emily had written up everything she taught us (and there was A LOT) so we could have quick reminders for correcting their behaviors. She has also checked in with texts to make sure we are all doing ok, and see if we have any questions. We can't believe the transformation our dogs have made in just days of meeting Emily and incorporating her ideas into our daily routines. And the kids love that she has trained tigers and lions! Emily is a lifesaver. I have a 4 year old Basset hound and Dachshund mix who has socialization and reactive issues. I had one private lesson. She answered all my questions and I had a lot of them. Emily was patient and made sure I understood all the techniques. I have been working on everything she has taught us. Duke is finally making so process around dogs he used to react to. After my session she continues to check in on us making sure training is going well. She is always available to answer any questions I have and her response time is second to none. Emily not only is helping me with behavior issues but also with recommendations on new foods and any other questions I have. I am so looking forward to attending her group classes to see how Duke interacts with dogs now. I would recommend her to any of my friends and family. She has given me the peace of mind and confidence to take Duke on walks and know that I am back in charge. Duke is finally getting more comfortable with me leading him. We have more work to do but with Emily helping me thru it I am confident we will get thru it all and Duke will be a happier and healthier dog. I can't thank her enough. More...
Emily is an *incredible* dog trainer and behaviorist. From the first time I reached out to her, she has been the nicest, most caring professional that I've encountered in this field. She REALLY cares about our dog, and that means more to me than anything, because our dog is such an angel to me and I love him more than I can express. She's helped him tremendously. When we contacted her, we were extremely stressed and shaken beyond belief due to a personal situation that we had just faced. Due to intense stress and toxic black mold exposure, our dog had developed some saddening behavioral issues. I knew he needed someone to work with him who could understand his language and help us learn how to help him.In came Emily. She is the real deal. She's empathetic, professional, knowledgeable in dog psychology beyond belief, extremely calm, and is so very gifted in what she does. Her methods are extremely positive, yet effective. It's all about energy with her, and it's about really connecting with your dog in a way that allows BOTH of you to feel confident and strong. She not only helped our sweet dog, she really helped me and my husband. I'm so thankful for her, because she immediately identified what was going on with him and gave us practical tools to be able to help him from day one. She assured us that we could work through this. He's a different dog because of what she's taught us. He is no longer stressed or anxious, he's peaceful and calm, and he feels happy and safe again. He's still dealing with health issues due to the toxic mold exposure we faced, but even with those challenges, he's doing amazingly well emotionally. He's the best dog anyone could ask for, and because of Emily's help and guidance, he's back in action being as sweet, gentle, submissive, and loving as ever. She even referred us to an amazing holistic vet who we pray will be able to help our pup regain his health after everything he's been through.Stop looking for a trainer/behaviorist. Pick up the phone and call her. Your dog will thank you. More...
Emily really does know how to read and listen to dogs. My puppy started listening and following new commands within 15 minutes of our first visit. Emily also emailed me a detailed review of our entire hour. So impressed! The email is so helpful that I can remember every tip she gave me. She also followed up with several text checking to see how things were going & giving me encouraging messages. I highly recommend Emily! More...
When we first got Sumo, a 2-year old American Staffordshire Terrier rescue, he had never been socialized or even been around other dogs outside of a shelter; he was aggressive and, because of his size (82 pounds!), hard to manage. After 2 months with Emily, it's like we have a brand new dog! He loves walking with the pack and has made new friends. Plus, we now have a new confidence in how to handle Sumo and any other dog. Emily and her expertise are worth every penny. She is patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly easy to work with - we could not have asked for a better experience. More...
Many reviews discuss how Emily works with problem behavior in dogs, I'd like to tell you my story of how Emily is helping to fix ME!! Last summer my life changed forever when I decided to rescue my Z. He is what you would consider the perfect dog, well-behaved, loved by humans and furry friends alike and not a bad habit to be found. Then, one day while peacefully walking Z, I was attacked by a dog who towered over my big 75lb boy. My confidence was crushed and I feared Z and I would be mentally scarred forever. After months of recovery, I sought out Emily to help me regain the confidence I lost by being attacked. I am so thankful to be learning the skills I need to cope with the trauma and new skills to reinforce to Z that I am a strong leader, capable of keeping myself and him safe in any situation. Emily has never hesitated to offer her guidance in our recovery and her training techniques are superb. I look forward to many Sunday classes and pack walks. Thank you so much Emily for helping me strengthen the beautiful relationship I have with Z and his furry friends. More...
Emily is amazing!!! I have already recommended some of my friends and co workers with dogs to her. I honestly have never taken a dog to a dog training class before but when my husband and I decided to adopt a pit bull we thought it would be a good idea to go to a couple dog training classes and let me tell you it was the best decision! Emily has not only helped my pit but has helped me be comfortable and in control. While getting comfortable with my dog she has helped me see how to be the one leading. She has touched on subjects I would have not thought about. If you're thinking about a dog trainer I would highly recommend Emily she is very thorough, energetic and knowledgeable. I will continue to use Emily More...
I am a female owner of a 90 lb golden retriever and a 70 lb pit bull, both males. They had some behavioral issues and it was becoming increasingly frustrating and difficult for me to manage them. My pit is also a rescue and lived in 7 different places before I adopted him, and suffered from significant separation anxiety. When I contacted Emily I was literally in tears. Working with her over the last year has changed my life. She initially spent a very thorough session at my home. She provided recommendations for the proper tools to work with my dogs and even had items available to purchase. She referred me to articles she had written to help with the specific issues that needed to be addressed. We continued our training by attending Emily's weekly group class. Emily was and continues to be responsive to email communication regarding my dogs' progress and any concerns that I have. I am overwhelmed at how much I have learned, and continue to learn from her. I realize how much this training is not only for my dogs, but for me. Her in depth understanding of both human and animal behavior to drive the changes is so unique to her training method and sets her worlds apart from others. I would recommend Emily whether you have a dog with issues or want to avoid developing issues. We are so grateful, thank you Emily! More...
When we adopted our 8 year old doberman, Liberty, from a family member, she was amazing...except on a leash. She pulled to where walks were more of a struggle than enjoyable, and we quickly learned that she was very dog reactive: she would growl and lunge if other dogs came too close. It got to the point where I wasn't comfortable walking her on narrow trails (which she loved hiking) without my husband, for fear of not being able to control her if we ran into another dog.I found Emily on Yelp and decided to give her a call. We agreed to meet at a local park to work on Liberty's behaviors. Emily took Liberty from the car, put a special collar on her, and proceeded to walk her through the park, right by other dogs, and Liberty did not react. Then she showed us why her techniques worked, and had us practice. She really understands dog body language and behavior, and taught us how to 1) make Liberty see us as the "alphas" on walks, 2) make Liberty feel safe and trust us on walks, and 3) read Liberty's body to tell how she was feeling, so we could respond accordingly. That single session was a COMPLETE game-changer and worth every penny (and she is very reasonably priced). Followed by practice on our own, practice in pack walks with other members of Emily's classes, and at her Oceanside Sunday classes, Liberty was a JOY to walk, and was even able to be around other dogs at holidays without issue. When our beloved Liberty passed away, Emily was empathetic. She also helped us find our newest dog, Ginger, through her connections with rescues. And of course we sought her help to address some of Ginger's behaviors (shyness with strangers, jumping, play-biting) right away so we could correct them early and help her be the best dog she can be in our family. Emily's ability to read each dog and adjust her technique to tailor to each personality and situation is impressive. We recommend her to all of our friends with dogs, and even to random people we meet who are struggling with their dogs' behaviors.Emily is nothing short of amazing, and we are incredibly grateful for her insight, dedication, and compassion. My wife and I adopted a pit puppy on New Year's Eve. After seeing some early signs of behavior issues starting to develop, we decided to take her to a trainer than my coworker had glowing recommendations for. As it turns out, that trainer was Emily and we couldn't have found a better person to work with. We have done both one-on-one and group sessions with Emily and it has all been worth it. She has a profound understanding of animals that is absolutely obvious when you see her handling the dogs. Her unrivaled level of communication with owners also allows us to ask questions whenever they come up. She has already done wonders in helping us grow with our dog, and have a pup that we can be proud to show off. Thank you, Emily! More...
Emily was with our mini dachshund and our corgi mix yesterday to start our training. Within minutes she had the dogs under control with firm but encouraging interactions. We quickly recognized the behaviors that we as dog parents needed to work on. Emily took us all out for a walk, after a long time in our yard, and the dogs did great. First she walked them and then had us walk them. Complete change in how our normal walks go, our dogs were well behaved. It's obvious Emily knows what she is doing and just the one visit has opened our eyes to what we need to do to start changing things. I'm thrilled. I look forward to working with her more. More...
Emily is a remarkable trainer who worked wonders with our two dogs, Sasha and Mamba! Her knowledge and expertise elevated our quality of life as dog owners. The one on one training, group classes, and phone advice have been invaluable! I highly recommend her services! My husband wrote a much more detailed back story so please read:I can honestly say that there isn't a way to put into words how happy my wife and I are with Emily and her expert training. We are the proud parents of two large black lab mixes and though they are awesome, they have some not so awesome behaviors. One of them was very aggressive at times and the other is super loving and playful, but she can be quite scared of the world around her and cowers. These were two very different issues with two very different large dogs that were both middle age and had no past training experience. There were times before we met Emily that we thought making our scared dog more relaxed and our aggressive dog safer would be impossible, but that is where Emily came into our lives. She came to the house, offered hours of dog and human training after meeting our dogs, and eventually left us filling more hopeful and equipped for the necessary training and habit building ahead. She also welcomed us to her weekly training classes and encouraged us to call or email her anytime when we had questions or interesting encounters during our training. This was an invitation we have utilized many times with great results. I know that training can seem like a huge extra expense, and we struggled with that same idea, but honestly, it was the absolute best investment we've ever made, our dogs go on large pack walks with other dogs, and my fearful baby even participated in a school project for three weeks where she would work with other dogs and hundreds of noisy kids all day with excitement and a tail wag. Emily is truly amazing!Sent from my iPhoneBest, Michelle, Corey, Sasha, and Mamba. More...
Early this Fall, our 14 year old Shiba Inu passed away. We waited a couple of months before getting another dog. I wanted to stick with the breed since my last Shiba was Heaven-sent! Therefore we hoped to get lucky the second time around with another well-mannered Shiba. We ended up getting our puppy slightly ahead of the 8-10 week time frame in which they could be separated from their mothers. As a result, our little guy had issues adjusting to his new environment. Plus, Emily said that he missed out on some bonding and socialization that he would have had if he stayed with his mother and litter mates a bit longer. Nevertheless, we are dedicated dog owners and wanted to make this life-long commitment go well. I had messaged with Emily via the Yelp app prior to getting the puppy. Once he arrived, we realized that we needed help that went beyond training him to sit and stay. Emily is an animal behaviorist and gets to the root of all issues. She can determine who or what is causing the pet to act that way that he or she does. Emily also evaluates the home environment and helps you make changes to provide structure for your pet. Needless to say, Emily helps to calm the situation down!!!!Is our puppy a little demon dog who has issues with aggression? Nope! He's a little guy who has a serious case of ADHD. Anyway, prior to Emily coming to our home, I sent her a video of some of our puppy's antics. She said that she had to see it for herself before she could evaluate him. I liked that she didn't form an opinion based on a short clip but wanted to look at the situation as a whole. Emily arrived on time and was confident in her abilities to address our concerns. The first thing that she did was to approach him in a calm manner. She didn't get him all riled up nor did she feed into his high energy. Emily explained how to approach, speak, and interact with our puppy. We had gone about it the wrong way. We were so excited to have him in the house that we only escalated his energy levels and didn't know how to calm him down. Emily also showed us how to redirect his attention elsewhere when he is using those razor-sharp teeth on us!!!! Our puppy also had serious problems at night. All he ever did for the first week and a half was scream and bark all night long! We believe in crate training and when Emily saw our 5 pound puppy in a German Shepard size crate, she said that this was the problem. We had to downsize to a puppy-sized crate. She also helped us place towels inside to help him dig a little nest for comfort. Can you believe that he's actually pretty quiet at night? She also showed us how to stimulate his brain, forcing him to think often. Emily helped us tire him out so that he'd sleep at night.Emily is a savior for us! All of her reviews are truly a reflection of the quality of work that she does and the rapport that she has with her clients, both human and four-legged. We spoke on the phone for over an hour before meeting. She did a 3 hour session with us but only charged us for 2 hours. Emily sent an extensive email as a follow-up to be explicit with techniques to be used with our Shiba. She responds via text when needed! Basically, Emily will not leave you high and dry. The amount of follow through that she has in nothing short of amazing! We had a trainer come out to the home a week before but at this point, we are targeting the underlying issues. Then once we have an understanding of how our dog thinks and when/how to react, we will focus on basic commands. Emily has changed the way that we interact with our puppy. We are truly grateful for the work that she has done with us already. I can see that Emily will be a part of our puppy's life into his adult years. More...
My house was super tense whenever guests would come over due to my 75 pound nervous pup. Not fun. Then I called Emily. I could tell she was super dedicated right away. Very insightful. She knows her stuff. She identified the problems in my dog immediately, some she even identified on the first phone conversation before meeting the dog. Emily came to my house and worked with me and my older kids on a plan to allow people into our house again. She was super patient, she demonstrated and explained everything so even new dog owners like us could understand and put it into practice.I am a cheap person and at first I thought the price she quoted over the phone was a little much. I went ahead anyways because I was desperate. She is worth what she charges and more! It's not only the initial meeting, The follow up emails and articles are life-saving! Also her class is amazing. Walks are fun now! My dog is so much happier my family is so much happier, it's a better way of life if you have a dog. You won't regret calling Emily! More...
Emily is incredible and that's an understatement. She has an amazing knowledge of dogs, how to read their body language before the dog has a chance to react unfavorable. I have a 13 month old GS, beautiful in every way, (in my eyes) that would turn into a monster on steroids at the sight of any dog. Walking my GS was like going to war but I wasn't about to give up. With one session with Emily, all my fears of walking my dog flew out the window. Emily helped to build my confidence in myself and allowed my dog to understand she didn't need to take care of me, that I would protect and take care of her. Since then I've had the the pleasure of heading out the door with my GS at my side, other dogs passing right next to us, darting at us and not a flinch from my dog. No bark, no growling, no lounging, no fire flying from her mouth. Emily is a rare find in a dog trainer, actually a people trainer. Do the work and miracles will happen right before your eyes! We are a new rescue group and we have a couple of pit bulls that we have been unable to find home for, due to various issues. One was because of aggression to other dogs. Being new, we didn't have the experience to be able to help these dogs get past their issues. Emily came and worked with all of our employees on being able to help our dogs, and her suggestions have changed our dogs' lives in just a matter of less than 2 weeks. Our dogs act differently with just a few modifications as to how we were dealing with them prior to meeting Emily. I am excited for their futures and for getting them out there for the public to meet and hopefully give them a home. Emily spent about 2 1/2 hours with 4 of our staff members. She was kind and patient with us and with our dogs, but also exuded a confidence that we all trusted. The dogs really seemed to respond to her very well. I highly recommend her services to anyone needing help with their dog. More...
I rarely ever write reviews but felt like I needed to leave one for Emily. Fist off I researched many dog trainers to help with our Doberman. I spoke to many but didn't feel like the truly cared about anything but money. Emily took the time for me on the phone just getting to know what the issues were and trying to help me get a game plan together BEFORE I even scheduled a time to meet with her. When she came she was very professional and wasted no time getting to the issue and helping us guide Mack on the path to success. She truly has a gift. I was amazed to see our normally impossible to walk dog could actually be walked around other dogs none the less. Her understanding of animals is by far the best I have ever witnessed. She had confidence with him I have never seen before and she took us right to the situations we feared the most, handled them flawlessly and taught us how to feel confident in handling them. I cannot recommend her enough. Worth every penny, all day long. More...
Emily is an incredibly skilled animal behaviorist. When we called her on a Sunday, we were in tears. We thought we were going to have to make the agonizing decision to relinquish our amazing boy back to the rescue group from where he came. Despite being a Sunday, she answered right away and spent almost an hour on the phone with my husband in consultation. She took time out of her personal time; she just cares that much. Hubby explained that we had a female lab mix in our household for 12 years, and we thought she would like a companion for her twilight years. (She got along amazingly well with a friend's dog, so we thought she might like company more permanently.) We worked with labsandmore.org dog rescue to find a submissive, older male that she might bond with, and we thought we had found the perfect boy to add to our pack. The first few weeks brought some scuffles. She's a regulator, and she was none too impressed with his lack of manners, but he learned quickly, and things settled into their dog routine. Unfortunately, about 6 weeks into having our new family member, he got really sick with gastritis - lots of vomiting, and she became afraid of him. Our once independent girl was now jumping in my lap and trembling at the slightest cough or vocalization from him. She would claw and cry and do anything she could to get away from him. He had turned her into a stressed out neurotic basket case. I was scared she was going to have a heart attack; her heart was racing so much. And then we found Emily. (*insert sounds of angels singing*) Emily came over and spent three hours with us, retraining us and our lab girl. We found out that most of the problem was us - the people. We were coddling her, which just reinforced that she should be upset about what the boy was working through. (He also got on antibiotics, and was fine 72 hours later, but the emotional toll on our girl was sort of already done at that point.) She explained that our choice in companion may not have been the best choice for her... Emily may have said it was like telling a five year old to take care of a 2 year old. Of course our female would crack under that kind of pressure, but since he was part of the household, we could absolutely work with the pack members that we had and that success was achievable. So, we had to learn how to be leaders of our pack, and treat our dogs like dogs, not human children. Dogs have very specific instincts about leadership, and when you try to apply human constructs to their world, it doesn't work. You end up with a super neurotic dog, which can't go on walks, and doesn't have the joy of being a dog because they're so stressed out about taking care of everyone and their environment. It's not fair to the dog. So in those three hours, she taught us leadership skills, leash skills, and life skills. She made our family a family again. The bonding that happened was incredible. The next two weeks were hard. We practiced for hours every day, but the end result has been nothing short of miraculous. We go to her Sunday group classes still, 10 months later just to continue practicing the skills with other leash-reactive dogs. You can teach two old dogs new tricks. You can have fun doing it. You can bond incredibly with your non-human family members. Emily gave us our family back. We can never thank her enough for all of the wisdom she shared, and the impact her skills made for our family. More...

Emily has completely changed our aggressive and overly protective Aussie. He has nipped 3 skateboarders and on the first lesson he lost complete interest in them. She is just the best at what she does. He was feeling my fear and nervousness so she showed us ways to bond with our dog on his walks and not to feel as though he has to protect us the whole time. Within the first hour he was a different dog and happy. My favorite thing about Emily is her positive energy which was clearly felt by our dog as well as us. Her demeanor is one of calmness. We have also gone to her group drop in classes that she holds at parks on weekends. It is a great way to reinforce what we have learned during the first private lesson. We always leave feeling as though we have learned something new. Our Aussie loves to go and so do we! Emily is also very affordable and we are so happy to have found her. She is amazing! More...
Emily is awesome at what she does. She was very helpful, and had our 3 dogs controlled within seconds! It was a sight to see. She knows her stuff, and is the definition of a dog whisperer. She is a plethora of knowledge, and exceeded our expectations indefinitely. We're so impressed with her skills, and will be using her again. Our neighbor is a dog trainer, but we used her instead. That tells you she must be really talented. Emily has a gift, and we highly recommend her services. Not only is she nice to dogs, she's very friendly to humans as well. Lol. Give her a call you won't be disapointed. More...
Long story short: Emily helped my former aggressive dog within a few sessions when MANY other trainers were unable to help us. She is unlike many other trainers in regards to approach, success and affordability. Long story long: I have a four-year-old pit/husky mix. As a puppy, he was submissive until he realized that he is faster/ bigger than most dogs and can be the bully himself. Since then, he has been given different labels by different trainers: fear aggressive, reactive, leash reactive and a high prey drive. I did everything you are told to do when you get a dog. We did standard training, cgc training etc. When I saw that the problem was getting worse, I hired a behaviorist. Aside from a behaviorist being extremely expensive, they have a veterinarian degree plus an extra degree for dog psychology (from what I understand). Ya, that was useless. A year later, my dog attacked a dog for no notable reason and I needed to gain control over my dog. I found Emily from Facebook. I really appreciated that she has a strong understanding of what motivates an animal and how to communicate with an animal. I really appreciated her strong online presence. She has article upon articles available for her clients to read that she wrote to help her clients. I have learned so much from her every time I see her or read an article. When I messaged her on Facebook, she responded relatively quick and answered all my questions. We set up a private lesson for the immediate week at my home. After that, we went to the beach to start the training around his old triggers. Since then, we have attended her group lessons. Her methods are easy, applicable and allow my dog to understand what I am expecting from him. He seems to be so much happier since we began our training. I also want to stress how connected she is to the success of your dog. She is by far, one of the only trainers truly interested. I could not give her a higher recommendation. If you need any sort of training from just regular training/manners to actual aggression- She is your girl! Thank you so much Emily! More...
I never thought my dog would stop being anxious and destructive the second I left the house! We recently moved to Escondido, and my 7 year old Husky did not handle it well. He went from being a fairly anxious dog (would stand by fence drooling until I came home, escape artist whenever able - chewing through wooden fences), to a totally crazy one (chewing at windows until he could open them, tearing down curtains, clawing at walls). We have a second husky (his brother) who is totally calm, but doesn't seem to help calm the anxious one. After 2 weeks of being on house arrest (luckily our jobs were flexible), we contacted Emily. Now, about 3-4 weeks later, we just had our most successful day! We went to work for 6 hours, and my baby just sat on the couch looking relaxed pretty much the entire time (doggie cam!). JUST DO EVERYTHING SHE SAYS! Emily described the different components of what we needed to do, and said if we gave it our all, we'd have good and quicker results. It took us a week to really do it well, but we noticed the difference as soon as we got it down. She has tons of quick and easy tips, articles full of knowledge, and life changing behavior modification training. I hope that Camus (my husky) continues to feel better and more calm as we continue methods Emily taught us. And all this is just from one initial session, a leash class, and her articles. She is also very available by phone or text. She truly cares about the people and doggies she helps - it is very clear. Her people and doggies are very lucky to have her in their family! :) Thank you so much Emily!!! Camus will be ready to go back to 8 hour days in the house with his brother in no time!!! More...
I'd never had a puppy before, and I wanted to do things right from the get-go. I have an energetic pit-mix, and Emily helped show us how to walk him and teach him the basics, right away. And our puppy was always happy to see her. Would totally trust her to help with any further training. Initially her trainings ran long, which was sometimes a little tricky, but the info was always helpful. Just plan on possibly going long, or having to cut things short yourself. :) More...
Emily is hands down the best dog trainer I have ever witnessed. I called her for help when my 2-year-old male began to be a jerk on walks, showing aggression towards other dogs. I had become afraid to take him out for walks at all, for fear there would be a scary scenario, and we really needed some help. Emily met me where I usually walk him for a 1-hour session, even going so far as lining up another person with several other dogs to meet us on the trail, so that we could test out various scenarios that might occur. I felt like she "read" my dog almost instantly (using whatever incredible sixth sense she has!) and within that hour I learned more than any other dog trainer has ever taught me (and I had worked with quite a few over the years.) I came away from that session with fantastic new strategies for future walks, and I can honestly say that we have never had another problem with aggression. I have also attended quite a few of her group classes, and always find them to be incredibly helpful. If you are looking for a great, reasonably-priced dog trainer, who does not rely on fear-based strategies or constantly shoveling treats to your dog, Emily is your person. You will not be sorry, I promise! More...
Emily is an excellent leader and teacher, the principles she covers in her class are easy to use and work wonders. I had spent hundreds of dollars with a previous trainer and wasn't getting the results I wanted with my Rottweiler. After just a few of her classes I got the tools I needed to turn him into a model doggie citizen. I return to her class occasionally to socialize my dogs and brush up on the basics but I am more confident in my ability to handle my "pack" since meeting her. It is well worth the money to learn from her because you will always have the tools she has taught you when interacting with your own dogs and others. If I had it to do over again I would have called her the moment I first got a puppy. More...
After my 9 year old Chihuahua began viciously attacking me, I knew we needed professional help ASAP. Emily spent 2 hours with me & my dog. She taught me so much about him & how to deal with his problem behavior. She taught me how to better understand him & how to communicate with him on his level. In just under 2 weeks of diligently practicing her techniques, not only did he stop biting, he has become a different dog. He's happier, less fearful, more relaxed. She literally changed our lives. I can't say enough about her skills & abilities. If you want your dog to be happy and your best companion she is the person to call. She is very affordable, available and willing to continue to help on an on-going basis after your session. She uses a very common sense approach and has what seems to be a natural ability to understand dogs & their relationships with their owners. I highly recommend her for anyone who either needs help with problem behaviors or basic obedience. More...

Fin N Feather, in addition to its large supply of various pets and supplies has an eager staff who are friendly, knowledgeable, and exceedingly helpful with pet advice. If you're in Eureka and intend to buy a pet I'd definately suggest stopping by Fin n Feather instead of the pet store at the mall. More...
This is a great place to go for pet supplies or to buy a small animal. The fish I've gotten from them have always been very healthy. They have a good variety of small pets and a great selection of pet supplies. Their staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They are happy to answer your questions and give you advice. The store seems to be organized, but usually a little crowded. There is a parking lot next door that is usually full. It is often difficult to find a place to park. More...
