It is rare to come face-to-face with proponents of sexual exploitation, but we did on October 17 when the D.C. Council held a public hearing on a proposal to decriminalize the entire commercial sex industry—including acts of pimping, brothel keeping, and sex buying. We need to mobilize to oppose the pending bill with an Orwellian title: The Community Safety and Health Amendment Act of 2019. #ProtectSurvivorsNotBuyers. NCOSE also made it possible for Melissa Holland, founder of Awaken Reno, to fly to DC to testify on the harms of prostitution in Nevada’s legal brothels, and for two 16-year-old victims of sex trafficking to travel from their Baltimore, MD group home to provide recorded testimony against the bill. What were the arguments made by leading proponents? National organizations such as the ACLU and Human Rights Watch say they support the dangerous proposal as a way to make the sex trade safe, although not one study or non-partisan report supports this hypothesis. #protectthesurvivorsNOTThebuyers #fulldecrimhurtseveryone More...

to national geographic investigates channel:love the baby hippo from a whistle blower: Watching a fascinating documentary presented by National Geographic Investigates on tv entitled drugs in Baltimore- a similar program deals w PCP in Anacostia, I wondered- does National Geo coordinate with the Baltimore or DC Police Department? They have behind the scenes interviews with dealers (some with maskes); they follow the heirarchy on a drug corner in Baltimore trail of PCP from California into the District: they show transactions on corners, they show addic ts puffing away!...What a gold mine for law enforcement. What is the behind the scenes story here? Best in the interest of public safety. David Eberhardt 4 hadley sq n baltimore, 21218 410-235-7507 More...

Please help us VOTE NO 77 for the preservation of OUR CITY! These issues are vast. DC deserves more time to truly discuss them and come up with real laws to help those in need. Not just lumping our issues into getting $15 an hour. The trickle down effect will be detrimental to many. That is a fact. More...

I had an awesome experience here yesterday. The fitness group I'm associated with got a honor that we could only dream of. Go Go Fitness LLC has been given the day of February 11th to celebrate our existence. It was truly a honor to shake the hands of Phil Mendelson, Trayon White, Vince Gray, and Kenyan McDuffie. Thanks again so much for taking the time out to share this token with us. More...

DC Council it seems, can do much better with public support. What must we do to present solutions to innercity problems here in ward 7? Include diversity and inclusion to the agenda - as those residents making differences feel left out of the conversation. More...
