If you like historic buildings, character and opulence this is the place to stay. If you like "big box" hotels I doubt you'll appreciate what a gem this place is. Service was great. View was spectacular - seriously get a lake view room, order room service and watch the sun come up. More...

Been coming to this hotel for about 5 years now and we stay the night before a bears game. Hotel is great. This past trip I did have a unpleasant experience with one of the bell hops and retrieving my vehicle out of parking. Beatrice (manager) called me right away, apologized, explained the situation, gave me an answer on how the situation will be rectified. She took good care of me. We'll certainly keep on using this hotel. More...

We want to a concert at the United Center and planned to stay overnight in the city afterwards. The Congress was the cheapest on a Saturday night ($142). It’s a grand old hotel that was built in 1893 – so don’t expect a ton of amenities in the rooms. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bed was new and the bathroom had recently been renovated. And it was quiet – maybe because our room faced the inner courtyard instead of Michigan Avenue. We used Parkwhiz to find an overnight spot in a parking garage about 2 blocks away – much cheaper ($18). Good place to choose if you just want to spend a night in the city after an event. More...

This is a very late review however I can’t imagine much has changed. We had the most amazing stay here. The hotel reception and our bedroom was spotless. I have seen reviews where people have mentioned the shabby hallways, yes some areas had a bit of pealing paint however it was clean, as were the carpets and as we only walked between the lift and bedroom it didn’t matter. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, I had the best sleep ever.|The staff were wonderful, polite, friendly and very helpful. If we ever return to Chicago we would have no hesitation in returning. Very good value for money.|| More...

The neagitve writeups on this hotel are way off except for it being an older hotel. Yes, there is heavy paint and the decor is old, but after that, the room was very nice, clean sheets, and quiet. I stayed in another hotel the week before and it was noisy. Not at the Congress. The staff was also very friendly. The remote was missing in my room, I called the front desk and someone was up quickly to hand me a new remote. The water was hot(I read complaints there was no hot water). The TV is old so it's gets a low definition picture, but for the price, I am a big fan of the Congress hotel. It's close to the feel of an older NY city hotel with a good atmosphere. I would give it 5 stars among the price point it offers, I gave it four since the option to pay a whole lot more would get you a 5 star hotel. More...

Probably the best place to stay if you are running the marathon. The hotel is a bit old, but staying in a historical building always has a special charm. More...

The Congress Plaza Hotel was once one of the grand hotels of Chicago. She’s huge, and has faded quite a bit. But you can’t beat the location for the price if you need to be near McCormick Place or Grant Park. The famous Buckingham Fountain and band shell are just across the street. You’re literally a block north of the Chicago Hilton and Towers, which will be double the price you pay for the Congress Plaza.||||The hotel can be a little noisy, with Michigan Avenue on the front side and the EL running a half block behind it. The hotel has good windows to block most of the noise, but if you want a really quiet room, ask for one whose window is on the inner atrium of the south tower. ||||Cabs (which still operate in Chicago, thank you) are relatively easy to get right there on Michigan avenue and there are numerous restaurants all around you.||||We picked the Congress Plaza for proximity to a convention at McCormick, but with better rates than the fancier convention-approved hotels.||||There are several elevator banks and the hallways are very confusing. But after your first time finding your room, you’ll get the feel of the place. Glimmers of the hotel’s past glory are everywhere if you look. The lobby is still spectacular art deco. The upper floors less so, but you’ll find gems like the amazing elevator doors on the main system in the south tower.||||The rooms are quite dated, but the hotel was built solidly in its day, so I found my room very quiet with no neighbor or hallway noise. If budget is your driver over fancy, the CPH may fit your bill just fine.||||Breakfast buffet, which includes a cook-to-order-eggs station is quite good and not unreasonably priced.||||You’ll note my line item scores are quite low for me, reflecting how dated the place is. But, my room and bathroom were quite clean, the bed was comfy, hallways quiet, elevators prompt, and again, a great deal for the location. She's still a fine old gal and I can point to nothing that was truly substandard or wrong. And, unlike some hotels, they do a good job of keeping things CLEAN! ||||10-point scale: 1 is lowest, 10 is highest||Room Quality/Newness: 4||Room Quiet: 9||Room cleanliness 8||Linens Quality 5||Room Lighting: 3||Plug Availability: 5||Bed Comfort: 8||Pillow Count/Quality: 8||Bath Lighting: 7||Number Sinks: 1||Shower Space: tub||Exhaust Fan: Yes||Water Pressure: 6||Hot Water Avail: 8||Water Temp Consistency: 8||Shower Head Height: 6' 2"||Tub Footing/Grip: 5||Desk/Chair Comfort: 4||On Prem Food Options: 6||Bar Open Late: Yes More...

The staff was very friendly the bar had food service and friendly staff as well. They were shooting a movie just a couple blocks over and they crew was using the hotel so there was alot of activity going on during the day but there was never any disturbances. The air conditioners in the room does not work well and really needs to be updated. There are alot of coats of paint on the wall and the water takes several minutes to get hot and not easy to take a quick shower unless you like them cold. More...

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of July 2019. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and wanted to make sure everything was being taken care of. The hotel itself was located within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see/do which was very convenient. With the amount of violence that Chicago is becoming known for, my wife and I were somewhat nervous about traveling there, but we never once felt unsafe while walking to and from the hotel. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Chicago and would stay here again if I go back. There is plenty to do and see as well as awesome food.
