The Club By Dominik Mager Hair Salon

Let me start by saying I've neverrrr colored or bleached me hair before I came to The Club (Stylist: Gigi). So you can imagine this experience for me was exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time. Thanks to Gigi it was great! Before even starting my hair Gigi and I had a verbal consultation explaining what I feared, my big no-no's and what I desired which was vibrant but not 'loud'. That could be complicated to accommodate when you're asking for purple as your very first color lol. Gigi ran a lot of ideas my way while keeping in mind what I wanted and what I feared. She also gave her professional outlook and made sure I was aware of necessary care for future styling. This was very helpful on my decision. I am very indecisive but Gigi was patient and added to my ideas to make my look come to life. My silk press lasted about a week and a half (in good weather) and wash day was a blast because my curls snapped right back! Absolutely LOVE THIS SALON. To start its ambiance is amazing it's very modern/rustic. It's a hidden gem. All of the staff is so friendly and outgoing you literally feel like your at home while you're getting  glammed up! 5 STARS ACROSS THE BOARD. I have always been afraid to straighten my hair since I did the big chop, because I thought I wouldn't get my curls back and not only did Gigi lay my silk but she also made sure my hair would stay curly after. Great experience getting my hair dyed and cut by Gigi. I went in with brown and dark pink hair (I've been doing the color myself at home). I knew I wanted a similar color but something more exciting/magical/professional looking. Gigi spent a while talking with me so she was able to get a really clear sense of what I was looking for. This is one of the best hair experiences I have had in my life. I have been getting blonde balayages for a few years now back in Paris, and I was scared that I wouldn't find what I was looking for in New York. First and foremost, thank you Gigi and team! You made my first hair dye experience awesome and I am so happy with the results. I have been planning for YEARS to dye my hair but never committed to the task. Finally, after much Yelp review searching I settled on The Club by Dominik. It had the price point I was looking for (yelp cash back bonus as well), the reviews combined with pictures to back up its 4 star rating and it was located near my home. I was sold. When I called to book the appointment and ask a few questions I was surprised to find that the owner himself answered the phone. Dominik was pleasant and helpful as he booked my appointment. The day finally arrived and I was very nervous but excited. The staff greeted me and made me feel welcome. I received a hair washing and quick cut while I waited for Gigi. I loved the laid back casual vibe the staff seemed to have. They mingled with clients and spoke as if they were longtime friends. This is always great to see in a business. Gigi explained every step of the process and assured me she could get the exact hair color I was looking for - AND SHE DID! It actually exceeded my expectations. The Club at DM Salon is by far the best in NYC at the most reasonable price for the quality of work. The stylists craft the most beautiful hair colors and cuts and I get stopped on the street regularly and asked if my hair is natural. :) I of course say yes, afraid to give away my secret weapon. I've been seeing Dominick for my color for about a year now, he knows color like no other. He gives me any look I want, and helps me transition between looks to growing my hair properly. Seriously the only person i would trust and always walk out with my hair feeling great.

This is a Harlem gem!! I've been going to this place since it opened and I can truly say I'm so happy it's here!! From someone who is obsessed with how my hair is I can tell you that Dominik not only listens to what I want but also helps me try things out of my comfort zone in a safe way and I am always so happy. It's always a little nerve wracking when you step out on your usual hair spot and try a new place. I was a little scared going into an unfamiliar location, but this salon was a great experience. I had a pixie that had grown out and was getting to that phase where it was looking pretty awkward. I asked to get it shaped into a short bob. Dominik is a hair god. He's ridiculously talented. A haircut that's $100 is pretty steep for me, but it has also turned out to be worth it. I went to him to chop off pretty much most of my hair. I was nervous about how I'd look with short hair. But he was able to cut and style it to the needs of my face. He has a strong eye and can tailor looks so that it suits the individual. And he'll give his honest opinion on whether he likes an idea or not. He's really fun and warm to be around, and it's just a generally great experience getting my haircut by him. More...

I have been going to the same barber for the past 3 years and getting my haircut the exact same way. A few months ago, I decided to start growing out my hair (while I still can - ha) and by doing so, I quickly realized that I needed to step it up and go to a professional who specializes with curly hair. I discovered The Club by Dominik Mager on Yelp and made a same-day appointment with Christian. Christian was absolutely fantastic! From the moment I sat in his chair, he was extremely friendly and comforting. I vaguely described how I wanted my hair and he talked me through different cuts and styles. What a gem! Christian squeezed me in for a NYE blowout and I didn't know what to expect but I'm so happy I found this place. Christian was lovely, he listened to what i wanted and gave me a beautiful blowout. I could tell he took a lot of care and wanted to make sure I left happy. The salon is also SO cute with tons of thoughtful touches. It feels homey and chic, there's a little sitting area, a coffee/tea bar and tons of thoughtful touches everywhere. After deciding I could bleach my own roots (spoiler alert: I could not), I made an emergency appointment with Shi on Halloween. It was a rather fitting day given the disaster that was on top of my head. Shi was kinder than kind and talked with me through removing my beanie and then the steps we could take to fix my hair. A little while later, I left the salon with the most amazing silvery blue gray hair and perfect pixie. Great salon with an upscale yet super friendly vibe. My first appointment with Christian was so nice. He took the time to talk to me about my hair, including both short and long term goals. He asked me not only what I wanted--but also what I didn't want--rare but important in a salon appointment. He wanted me to be happy so cut less at first and then when I said I could do a little more, he made time for me the next day to get the exact length I wanted. I felt like he truly cared about me. Moved to NY a few months ago, travel a lot for work and was somewhat overwhelmed by salon choices in other parts of Manhattan so it was a pleasure to find this spot right in my neighborhood.  I have a long, thick, unruly, various textured mane but more so what had recently become a heavy pile of hair that found itself in a topknot more often than not until I found a place to manage the situation. I know Javier from my work. He comes in occasionally with his husband and we started talking one day about hair. Javier is an amazing artist. I showed him a photo and he cut my hair exactly like the photo. He invited me to come to the salon in Harlem. He held a pleasant conversation. They shop was very clean and had a minimalist theme. I've been coming to The Club since they opened.  I'm super picky when it comes to my hair, especially cuts, and they have been nothing but amazing from the start.  More importantly my stylist listens to me and is consistent with his cuts.  The place is very clean and all the staff is friendly and fun.  It's like a trendy downtown salon only in Harlem, couldn't be happier.  I have sent all my friends to the salon and not one has had a bad experience.  Thanks Dominik and everyone at The Club, you're ALL Amazing!!! Very nice, upscale salon on a lovely stretch of historic Fredrick Douglass Blvd. in Harlem. $50 + 20% tip is a little splurgy compared to many other places for a simple blowout, but if you have an event or special occasion, I highly recommend you consider TCBDM because you WILL get what you pay for. (Not to mention a complimentary glass of wine or bubbly!)I saw Rory who I think was exceptionally talented. Having a wedding to attend out-of-state last Saturday, I stopped in on Friday afternoon when it was pouring rain and humid. I had a tall order: a low-maintenance blowout that would get me through the weekend. Rory worked with my natural hair texture to craft my frizzy, unruly locks into silky, bouncy smooth waves that shined like glass. Despite the rainy, humid weather, sleeping in a bun, and dancing up a storm, my hair held up BEAUTIFULLY the entire weekend and looked great at the wedding. My boyfriend couldn't stop commenting on my "Pantene hair" and wanted to know if I had it colored since it looked so healthy and bright. Highly recommend this salon to Uptowners and beyond. I'm visiting New York for the weekend and really needed a haircut to make me feel New York fabulous! I was a little anxious as most people are to get my hair cut in a new place but I trusted the reviews here and called in for an appointment. I called in at 11 am and the scheduled the same day on a Saturday. I then called in again because I was running a bit late to my appointment and they told me to just come in as soon as I could. I arrived at 1:45 and they where completely sweet and professional about my delay. I was whisked away to the lovely waiting area where I waited no more than 10 minutes before I was introduced to my stylist Javier. Javier is originally from California and so am I so we connected right away. I gave him basic instructions for my hair and he did exactly what I wanted. Aside from being sweet, caring, and providing excellent customer service Javier is a fabulous stylist. He has an amazing blowout technique and has left my hair looking and feeling like a million bucks! I wish I could take him back to LA with me but I will definitely come visit him again when I'm back in New York! More...

I was in the salon for a blow dry and a make up application this past Sunday, May 28th. I had the best experience. The make up artist was tremendous and Dominik did a wonderful job on my blow out. Was looking for a top stylist for a hair cut and came across The Club, and right in my neighborhood. After reading reviews, and a few articles, I made an appointment with Dominik. Making the appointment was super easy via MindBody App, and in a few days I was scheduled. The salon has a sexy, lounge vibe with a beautiful bar. Dominik was very professional, and kind. He provided a consultation, and made a great suggestion of a style I should consider. While I was nervous about cutting my hair, I decided to go with it. He washed my hair, and the blow drying was so well done, the flat iron didn't seem to require much heat. He talked about the health of my hair, and made some fantastic recommendations for some of my concerns. The cut was absolutely beautiful. He did such a great job. Not to mention I was in and out so quickly. Came in looking rough. Walked out stunning. I've received tons of compliments. Very happy with my experience and will be back for a wash and styling. I had a lot of anxiety being a guy with long hair for some time, and I came to the club by DM to get a super short cut. Dominik is the best! He conversed very professionally with me and helped me select a hairstyle that would fit the "CEO" look I was going for. In fact, he helped me transform my style while maintaining a low maintenance option that I had used before with my long hair.
