A completely different experience from the Duckworth's you may be expecting!  It's a dark, cozy, speakeasy atmosphere.  Honestly, it's a bit too dark.  I had trouble reading my menu, but that's mostly due to my eyesight, ha.  It's a small plate concept, which is perfect for the wife and I.  We tried multiple dishes and enjoyed each one.  They offer a variety of craft cocktails from the bar.  The prices are a bit wild on the menu.  They offer some steaks at high costs, including a $72 tomahawk steak (can this trend end, please?  I mean, it's just a ribeye with a big bone).  The rest of the menu is inviting and they've got a few more adventurous options too.We started with the truffle fires.  This was a huge servicing, and they were very good.  The pork buns were also great.  Soft, melt in your melt. Perfect!  We then moved on to the shrimp and grits.  Another solid dish that we enjoyed.  My only issue was with the egg.  What's the point?  It seems like an afterthought and adds nothing to the dish.  At this point, we were stuffed, so we skipped dessert.  Our server was very nice and helped us with the menu, including steering us away from a dish we were thinking of ordering (waffle cones).  She was very honest that many diners do not 'finish' that plate, and I appreciated that.We really enjoyed our experience here and look forward to returning. WOW! Crissy what an amazing experience you provided! You made our trip worth while, SO WORTH WHILE THAT WE WENT TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW. The steak, incredible, the risotto amazing, I know Brussel sprouts can be overplayed but not these, what a complement to your meal. Don't bother trying to tell them what to do with your drink. LET THEM CREATE, after all mixologists are artists. If you are looking for a good date night or impressive meal in the city, look no further! More...

We came to NC for NYE and after searching for restaurants I found this and loved the menu. We got there slightly after our reservation and they were happy to accommodate and seat us. The waiter was incredibly delightful and knowledgeable about the menu, I ordered a drink and they were out of an ingredient so he recommended the perfect substitute! Now the food, amazing. I've had brussel sprouts everywhere I can get them and these were perfectly crispy and the sauce perfection. The truffle fries, best I've ever had. The scallops can be paired with anything and I highly suggest them over the risotto. The Mac and cheese great, the salmon interesting because of the crisp skin but good. Not pictured is the duck flatbread, I enjoyed it but it left something to be desired. Overall would highly recommend this spot, can be amenable to all palettes and have every kind of drink and great service. Would note that it is literally a cellar and so kind of dimmer lighting and slightly smokey, would recommend for date or friend gathering. More...

Great atmosphere, good service and fantastic food. We dined in the Cellar and shared tapas style small plates. There is a wonderful selection and the signature cocktails were very tasty.

We went by last night just for some cocktails while in the area and we were blown away by the service we received. The bartender, Jameson, was phenomenal. We started with 2 drinks off the menu and then asked hime to make us something of his choosing. He asked us both our preferences and he made us (wife and I) two of the best cocktails we'd ever had. Mine was a variation of a Manhattan #2 and the wife's was a variation of a gin sour. Hats off to Jameson and the crew. We'll be back soon. More...

Made reservations on Open Table. Seated immediately. Server was very knowledgeable about both cocktails and beers. Food was excellent. Both appetizers and mains. Didn’t have dessert. It was loud, but the place was designed to keep noise in. It was what we expected and more. Would definitely come back. More...

Loved our server and the experience. We will always make this a Charlotte staple. The food this time was underwhelming, but I do think it might have been what we chose. The duck flatbread and some of our cocktails was not what was described to us but still a note worthy experience and a must visit place for everyone in Charlotte! More...

Beet food in Charlotte- small plates to main courses, crafted drinks and an intimate atmosphere. The grilled pulpo is excellent, filet mignon was right on temperature, scallops came with this kale mirepoix style dish -- SO GOOD, lamb pot stickers, steamed pork buns, and more. You will have a truly enjoyable dining experience here. More...

Great little place in downtown Charlotte. It was a little confusing when we got there, as we didn’t know where to go (go into restaurant and go down the stairs). But, the food was delicious, the bartenders were incredibly friendly and helpful. If I lived closer, this would definitely be a regular haunt. Loved the prohibition feel and the smokiness from the bar. Overall, definitely worth the trip. More...

Excellent food and service, with great ambience. Surf and turf dominate the menu pretty exclusively. This is not a restaurant for vegetarians, chicken lovers, or salad afficionados. All the food I sampled was excellent, but as a special note, I could have completely skipped all the entrees and happily dined on the roasted brussel sprouts. More...

I had a really great dining experience here, i ordered the grouper with the honey roasted vegetables(leak and carrots). I only wish the proportions were a bit larger, the amount I receive is 3carrots and 3 leaks if that) The low lighting makes it great for date nights and the backlighting on the bar makes for a great ambience.

My #1 favorite restaurant in Charlotte. You can go fancy with steak or casual with burger, both are grilled to perfection. Cocktails are flawless. Fries are delicious, truffle mac and cheese is perfection, brussel sprouts never fail, candied bacon is unmissable, and I always get the tuna tartare. This place is best enjoyed in a group and ordering the starters family style because there is just too much to try! Reservations are also available on OpenTable as a tip. More...

This restaurant surprised us. We really were not expecting the level of service or the originality and quality of the food. The menu online does not do justice to the tastes presented. It was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in Charlotte. It was loud but we had a very attentive server who made sure we could hear everything he was describing. He really knew his stuff and we tipped him very well for his service. I could not have made one suggestion to change anything. Five stars * More...

I tend to forget about this great little gem, but the food is unforgettable!! On this visit, I started with candied bacon which is excellent! It's served with a spicy sauce that balances out the sweetness. Next up, I ordered the shrimp and grits. This take on the Charleston classic is very unique, it's prepared with chorizo and Charleston shrimp . Very nice effort and that's coming from a shrimp and grits connoisseur raised in the Lowcountry. The Cellar has a great bar program and the service is casual but top-notch. Make reservations if you want to enjoy this find because it us often fully booked. Great space to tuck into a corner and have a chat and a cocktail. Great right off the fire anything on the menu, which includes bone-in rib eyes to buttery scallops. Note, tucked into a corner means other people in a small space around you and chat at a little louder volume. That being said great speakeasy atmosphere! I loved it. More...

We've been to the Cellar on at least 3 different occasions and it NEVER disappoints! Their house-made cocktails are the best in town! And the vibe is perfect- not too hipster with a touch of old timey speakeasy. The Brussel sprouts are the absolute best, but you literally can't go wrong with any of the tapas or larger entrees. Skip the big name steakhouses in Charlotte and get some here- I kid you not! End with the Nutella cheesecake because why not? We've hit a lot of hot spots in CLT, but the Cellar continues to remain my favorite! More...

The ambience of the Cellar is so unique, but the cocktails ... the COCKTAILS. Firstly, the craftsmanship and attention-to-detail of the bartenders is amazing -- they are truly artists. Secondly, do yourself a favor and order their NY Gin Sour. It was one of the best, if not THE best, cocktail I've ever had. Highly recommend! More...

Love everything about the Cellar... ambience, food and especially the service Darren provided us. Darren is always great with his commentary history of Cellar and recommendations for food/wine. I'm giving 4 stars due to the hostess being a little rude with her response upon arrival. I apologized for running late I had a meeting run longer than anticipated and she stated we give you 15 minutes but your 20 minutes. I apologized again, she never acknowledged the apology just gave the menus to another woman and told her where to sit us. I found her response little abrupt and not acknowledging my apology childish. Since I eat here often hopefully it was just a miscommunication between us and moving forward I will make later reservations to prevent any future issue. More...
