If I could give Cece 10 stars, I would! From the moment we met, it was crystal clear that Cece loves what she does and she loves love - a winning combination for a wedding cake! Her enthusiasm for her craft, and life in general, made us fall in love with her instantly. You know how you have dreams of trying flavor combinations that you've never even heard of before and being blown away? And how you fantasize about calling a place to get ideas from someone who: 1) knows a lot more than you do about the thing you're looking for2) actually is willing to talk to you3) loves their job and has fun while you're both figuring out what would work for you? It's hard to believe, but there actually is a person like this! It's the Cake Lady! I called, left a message, and she got back to me the same day. We talked about I cake of hers I had tried at a nearby shop and how I'd like something similar for my husband's birthday. She immediately had great suggestions. And the cake was fabulous! Discovering The Cake Lady was fate. I work downtown and walk to the Public Market often for Anodyne coffee. I noticed a beautiful cake in the window. It looked magical. Four layers-two vanilla two chocolate. Between the vanilla layers was a red filling and between the chocolate layers seemed to be-could it be?! More chocolate! I must have this magical cake. I did. I got a piece. I waited til I went back to the office as I was already going over on time for my break. Once I was safely in my cube I dug in. It was amazing. Heavenly. Fast forward from winter to spring as I'm planning my Besties bridal shower. So many details the games, the food but most importantly: THE CAKE. The most important part. I instantly remembered that heavenly cake from The Cake Lady. I immediately put on my Nancy Drew hat and sleuthed to the internet where I found her email. I described the cake to her and she knew right away what I was talking about. I asked for that cake to feed 45 people with roses with an ombré beginning with a pale pink to an ivory. It was beautiful and delicious. At the bridal shower there were gasps and many ooo's. One bridesmaid asked for the contact information and type of cake for her next event which she doesn't even know when that is. Hands down excellent cake. Karen aka The Cake Lady was hands down our favorite vendor. We met her at a vendor show and followed up for a tasting. At our tasting she spent over an hour explaining different combinations, sketching out a cake design, and letting us ask a million questions as we went through her picture book. She was so helpful and kind. Oh by the way, her cakes are delicious! These are not your typical mass produced wedding cakes. We hired The Cake Lady after a delicious tasting with her. We only wanted a display cake (2 tiers- 1 for cake cutting and 1 for 1st anniversary) as we were having cupcakes made as well. After talking to her, she suggested something a little bit bigger if we were wanting to display it as a 2-tiered cake would not stand out as much. After having her draw up our ideas/suggestions and her additions, we decided to go with a 3-tiered square cake. We could not have made a better decision to go with her. My husband and I asked Karen to make cupcakes for our wedding reception. We used the cupcakes as a feature in our centerpieces. Each guest had the choice of several different flavors. Our guests enjoyed the fact that they had so many different options. One of the things that impressed me most about the cupcakes, other than their lovely/varied designs, was the fact that they did not dry out for days after the wedding. Many cupcakes only have a shelf life of a few hours before they become dry, but not these. In addition to that, her bakery was very clean and tidy, and her staff was friendly. Finally, Karen was a pleasure to work with on a personal level. She mailed two free tickets to a bridal expo event at the Phister for my mother and I. In addition to that, she was able to work with us from overseas to make sure that everything ran smoothly before we arrived back in the States. I haven't ordered from Cake Lady, but I have had her cake at Anodyne Coffee just down the street. I believe this is the only place you can buy just a slice of the cake. Not sure why I haven't written about this place sooner...  maybe because I hate giving away my secret weapon / super favorite places? !  I have to say this is some of the best cake ever.  Moist, not too sweet cake in a variety of flavors with a light buttercream frosting in many flavors to choose from.  Favorite frostings include maple and white chocolate but it's all good!  Cake flavors are unique from lavender to the basics.Cakes must be pre-ordered, but it's worth the wait.  Go to her website and get on the email list and she'll send you specials a few times a year for some of her holiday cakes you can order. I ordered the cake for a birthday my boyfriend and I were sharing. We could not have been more pleased. Having never tried the product, we ordered blind based on other Yelp reviews and the pictures we saw The Cake Lady's Facebook page. We could not have been more pleased with it. The cake was flavorful and moist, each layer was perfectly spaced, and the icing was perfectly balanced. We were sad to see the end of it, but look forward to ordering another cake from The Cake Lady. I tried cakes at many places around Milwaukee, and either had issues with the service or the taste of the cakes (or even both), and I started to get discouraged until I found The Cake Lady!
You aren't going to go in and pick a picture out of a book when working with Karen! She sat down with me and my fiance and got to know us and our wedding and designed a cake just for us! The cake was not only gorgeous, but delicious as well! It was a hit on our wedding day!

Karen is fabulous! I kind of knew we'd be hard-pressed to afford her, but she totally understood that we were on a budget and worked really hard to come up with something that fit our price range. Though the cake was a bit of a splurge, I'd say it was totally worth it. We had a beautiful (no, perfect) 2-tier presentation cake and then sheet cake for everyone else. Lavender cake with raspberry preserves, lemon curd, and buttercream icing--a party in my mouth! We also later found out that our top tier was spice cake with vanilla bean pastry cream, which was something we had mentioned before but nixed because it was too expensive. What a wonderful surprise to thaw it out and find she had thrown that in at no extra cost! Before our wedding, my wife and I decided that we were going to use as many businesses and locations in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee as possible. I'm happy to say the best wedding cake I've ever had was at my own wedding.Our cake was a four tier cake, and it was very reasonably priced, but more importantly, delicious. Karen met with us for over an hour with samples of different types of cakes, fillings and frostings and explained them to us.
